No-I don't think it's just/mostly females.

I've wanted to give the ole ball-gag treatment to several males, too.

Drew Peterson is one of them, the entire Anthony family, and Sanford, too.

Sanford just doesn't know when to STFU and leave office.

He's digging his own grave-one mouthful at a time.

I say-"Have at it, dude."

With Palin, I think it's the obnoxious way she SCREAMED over the abstinence deal as her own daughter was pregnant, and she dragged her entire family cross-country for the whole campaign.

She didn't win, and now she's all "WAAAAAAH!!!".

To quote our favorite Anthony basher-"BOO-HOO!"

Now she's jumping the gubernatorial ship-for a DEEP DARK SECRET PLAN-and I say that if she can't complete she governorship, she shouldn't be allowed to run in 2012!!

How many men have been senators and governors, and planned a run for president, and managed to stay in office until the campaign was over??

Does she think she's so damned special-'cuz she's a mom and now a grandma-that she thinks she should be allowed to just leave her state in a political lurch??

Get REAL, lady!!! Pull on your big girl/boy panties and DO YOUR JOB!!!

Men don't just quit their posts to formulate a campaign 3 freakin' years in advance of the election!!

If you can't get it ALL done, maybe you shouldn't run AT ALL!!!

And is she just going to quit the presidency if things are inconvenient for her??

Anywho-she's an acid-tongued viper who's bent on destroying our natural resources and driving several species of animals to EXTINCTION.

Way to go, Palin!!

Damned Republicans.

LOL!! It's been raining almost non stop since May Sara! This is very strange. At this time of year it should be very hot with temps in the high 70's and 80's. I don't understand this weather. The East coast is a mess of overgrown foliage and my squirrels are really wearing life jackets. My grass just got cut last week and it's overgrown already.

Yesterday I began to worry about those who work outdoors like, landscapers, painters, contractors. I actually said a prayer for them. Today it was such a tease because the sun was blaring and everything dried. By noon, the thunder and lightening started and there was a torrential downpour. It's still raining in RI. The mosquito population is going to be horrendous tomorrow if it doesn't' train. I'm going to bring the OFF with me to the outing.

Do you live in NE Sara?

Definitely use the Off Nawny. We have that problem real bad in Michigan. I have never lived in the NE but I have tons of relatives that do. I have spent time in NY and Massachusetts when I could especially in the summer visiting. You are right about the lightning. that is so dangerous I will not let DH go out in it for a bike ride. even if there is a possiblity of it. that is wierd about the rain though. you sound like you live in the NW. I sure hope you have a great day today and it holds off. Maybe there will even be a nice breeze to fight bugs. It actually looks like rain here and it is not supposed to. I live in a tourist town and we will have thousand and thousand here for fireworks tonight......I guess all we can say is 4 seasons make it interesting. LOL make sure you eat too much. eat for me...............sara

Anyways Happy 4th everyone!!!!!!!!!!!:patriot:

It is only an hour away and by an excellent lake with a lot of trees. we might not have found a spot anyways. At least we will not have any rain this weekend. Have you recovered from your vacation? Did you make any money? sara

Sorry u have a cold and could not camp. Damp would not do well for DH's back. Slowly recovering due to company here prior who went with us. I won a bit on the quarter machines so that was good. I kind of get the impression she is more eccentric than maverick-y, kwim? And that's not necessarily a good thing in a politician. For me, the clincher was that she had never had a passport. It may seem odd of me, but I feel that everyone who intends to go into public service on high level should have the intellectual curiosity to desire to travel and see the world, meet people from other places, you know? And not having a passport shows not even the desire or dream to do so, and I don't want a leader who doesn't want to meet people where they live in the world...all imo, but my interest in her faded after that. But I still don't get why people get so exercised. My mom literally hops up and down whenever she's mentioned and expresses desire for her untimely death...to me, she's just kind of an ntb person from far away from me...

I guess we picked the wrong days to visit them  Would luved to have been there. Yep, well, so far. It's only 8 am here, so the jury is out on today. As always, the great illegal explosive display was most impressive. More attempts to hit the bart trains with bottle rockets were seen...wheee! ...Good thing we didn't try to go out. The fog rolled in on the "real" fireworks.

The local news here is running an "expose" on the horrors of childhood ptsd caused by fireworks...I am seriously not talking about blowing fingers off, but a boy saying "I was really scared, I've had nightmares all year." Next thing you know, fireworks will be banned "for the children"...

Around here it's the kids who are all excited about the fireworks. Not only to watch what others fire off, but wanting to get their own. Haven't heard of any people here who were so adversely affected by fireworks that they ahve to take medication or do dastardly deeds they can attribute to that. (Altho, I expect there might be some.)

The kid next door had some friends over and were shooting fireworks. I found a dozen or so bings on my vehicle from firecrackers. The officer used glass cleaner and a paper towel and cleaned them off--no lasting effects, no paint loss. The kids swear up and down they didn't throw the firecrackers @ my car--but they were the only ones who were blowing them off, near my car.

But, they DID admit to the red paintball paint all over my drive and on the white car of a kid who lives here. The officer said he would talk to the neighbor, and he tho't Bob would agree that the boys ought to have to wash my car (cuz the cleaning of the firecrackers made it spotty.) What they ended up with was that the boys had to mow my lawn!!! (Bob HATES it that I'm not all into lawn care, lol.) It was a pretty good deal. The lawn mower is broken, and the lawn sure needed mowing!!! lol.

Aww, I know! There is one weeble who worries about the fireworks. She is 4 years old. The other day she said, "Nawny do you have some earplugs I can use for the fireworks party? I don't like those fireworks nawn." I felt so bad. So I'm bringing her the earplugs today. :(

DD's dog is the one who is most affected by fireworks here. They started shooting off the first of June, and it's hard to get her to go outside, and even tho the works are over (for the most part) it will take a month or so for her to get comfortable going outside again. Usually we tell her, time to go outside, and she just trots up to the door. Now, we about have to PULL her outside, and there have been some wet spots on the carpet lately.

Amy

The fireworks started already in my neighborhood.

The idiots kitty-corner and across the street were aiming them right for the front of my house, and my dogs were beside themselves with terror.

I had them both in bed with me, in my arms under the covers, and I thought the were going to shake the bed frame apart.

The cops here are useless when it comes to responding to fireworks calls.

The officer who responded to my call about firework dings on my car told us that it was illegal to fire off the works until the next day (the 3rd.) Now, we have been hearing fireworks all the month of June, not a great deal, but some every day and it's gotten more often by July 1. So, he tells my DD that, if she sees the neighbor boys out shooting fireworks (the night of the 2nd) to call him. I mentioned that fireworks have been going off for some time, and he got snippy and said, it was impossible to catch all the offenders. And, I really don't suppose they have TRIED to catch any offenders--where to start? lol. I told DD--don't even look out the window to see who is shooting them off. The neighbor boys shouldn't be punished for what everyone else is doing. I only wanted them to get the point that they couldn't throw the firecrackers toward vehicles.

my mom's dog is like that, in fact about 4 years ago she got so freaked out by the fireworks that she actually JUMPED my mom's fence and took off, we didn't get her back for about 3 days and then animal control contacted us. apparently she had run so far and so hard that when she was found on the other side of town her pads were completely worn down to almost nothing and she could hardly walk. i had to drive to a neighboring town to pick her up from the pound that time, and every year since then she has been safely locked away in the house long before any fireworks start. poor dog, lol. and now on top of her being cowardly she developed epilepsy last year from a blow to the head because on new years eve she got loose and was running in the street and this guy drove by and BAM his bumper hit her smack on her forehead. about 6 months later she had a seizure for the first time. dog just can't get a break

our 4th was ok. the parade was a little weak this year, not a lot of people decided to be in it i guess. not even one tow truck or anything, mostly just a bunch of fire trucks honking their horns. the carnival was about as good as it ever is, lol which isn't so much. BUT we took our boy there and he had a blast, he rode some kiddie rides, and daddy helped him win some prizes at the games, and of course the fireworks were awesome. it seemed like they had a great firework show to make up for the lame parade earlier lol.

but like any other holiday in this place, it was mostly an excuse for people to get drunk and fight or get drunk and just wreak havoc and my dogs were pissed off all night long lol. all in all it was the same old 4th of july lol, today is a day for kicking back and playing in the pool, my feet are so sore, we walked around that carnival for about 2 hours yesterday before we ran out of money lmao

You should hit MI on the 4th one of these years. We have a celebration every August at the beginning of the month. All kinds of sports contests, art ffairs, carnivals etc all week before the big Saturday. Then a parade goes by my house lasting 2 hours (that children just love) and wonderful fireworks that night. Been happening every year. Sometimes I wish I had not bought a house on the parade route but it has been fun having large parties here and pot lucks. Always the hottest week of the year also...of course.Too bad I cannot sneak some fireworks to you. lol sara

Tell mom you decided to take it back to the clinic to be used by another child who might not be able to afford a new helmet. I know, they probably wouldn't re-use a helmet, but surely any lining could be removed, the helmet cleaned and a new lining placed. @ least that would explain where the helmet went, even if the clinic decides not to use it.

Congrats to your baby for putting up with it long enough to get to discard it!!! It couldn't have been very comfortable @ all.

I think the email notification is on the blink, or turned off for the holiday. I was beginning to think no one was posting, too busy w/celebrations cuz there has been no notifications all weekend. I even checked to make sure I was still subscribed to the threads and forums I've been on.

Oh, well, doesn't hurt me to look over the whole board once in a while!! Like I have time to spend on even more threads!!! lol

I agree with Amy Bob. Good idea and problem solved. It should not be kept if it is not going to be used again IMO

There's a family battle on...brace yourself...my mom wants it! uggh. My husband wants it gone so she's never reminded as a teenager-no helmet jokes. I'm with him, I had self-esteem issues and that's without having been in a helmet. But my mom is hysterical about keeping it. aargh. I may just slip it to her if she never lets it be seen again, but this is a woman who showed naked baby pictures of me to a guy I'd just started dating. no clue...

Oh Lordy-does she have your umbilical cord in your baby book? I know some women who did that. Never ventured to ask how it looked or smelled years later. Prolly just vanished? YUCK

I'm not a Palin fan, nor a Palin hater.

But I do find it interesting that there is more enthusiasm for shutting her up with a ball gag than, say, Sanford or one of the bigger idiots out there. Is it more okay to shut a woman up? It feels like there's a different tenor in the criticisms of her than a male politician...just sayin'...

Um...

OH MY FLIPPIN' GOD!!!! NO!!!

Dogs and cats eat their offspring's placentas!!! Which I can understand!!! It goes back to when they were WILD ANIMALS, and they ate the placentas to prevent other animals from being drawn to the scent and eating their babies!!! Also, it gives the mother hormones and nutrition to make milk for her litter.

You actually KNOW one of these "people"??? And doesn't that border on CANNABALISM???

Thank you Sara, you are so sweet! It was a wonderful party and all nice people, no FBI. :) Gentle breezes, no rain, no bugs. I live in the southern part of Rhode Island just south of Conn. We are an hour or so away from NY or Boston the other direction. I say we are the ingredients of a Boston and NY sandwich.

on the first, no. MJ struck down MJ. Just drugs, the kind you get from a Dr. who just is interested in money and not your health.

lol! There's this book called "Unmentionable Cuisine", Sara: recipes from around the world for everything from insects to rodents. An anthro wrote it because he said there was no reason for people to starve due to food taboos, so he collected them...I actually use the recipes, but I swear I substitute out the rodent (or worse!) with a more culturally appropriate main ingredient. There was this talking head on today, saying that the press coverage of MJ was justifiable, because a whole generation was confronting their own mortality. I say, not so! because we do not have anesthesiologists on staff putting us under to get some rest. It's not like he had an aneurysm for heaven's sake! This was not a cause of death that, basically, more than 5 people on the planet are in danger of, so no confrontation with reality here. (And JS was just having some fun, I don't think even he thinks God strikes people down...he might even be an athiest? I dunno...)

The idiocy of celebrity lives and thrives! (And that goes for Sanford, too!)

Isn't it odd how we treat celebrity? I know I am crazy but I do not go to movies and have not since early 70's. I buy very little music and do not listen to the radio either in my home or in my car, no matter what the type. Why? I refuse to have my money, however little that is, go to these weirdos. I will not support their agenda and for the love of pete, they have no business addressing politics. Most of them, celebrities, did not finish high school and they are know more than the college educated people running for office? Not that politicians are any smarter but at least they are educated. Even if they are the pie in the sky wishers, everything for my pocket people we have running the country now. No matter which side of the isle they are on, they have nothing but their bank accounts in mind when the make laws.

For actors, especially, it's a bad business decision if nothing else. Even if I agree with what they say, they are no longer the blank slate they need to be for me to accept them in various characters, if that makes sense...

It is so sad today that wealth and power can buy anything. Can u imagine anyone of us asking a Dr. for that drug-we would probably be checked in for mental health issues. Shades of Elvis again. I guess i am hard hearted when folks have so much and destroy themselves. I get the why of it-it just makes me ill. I was on a work thing a coupla years ago in Memphis-of course some comp. tours. Of course one being Graceland. As painful as i knew it would be for me i went for something to do. I remember standing in the blazing sun hot as hay in a very long line to pass Elvis's grave. I stared at the people who were at the stone and holding up the line. These women where just beside themselves sobbing. All i could think was where the hay is the wailing wall and for gawd sakes he killed himself how many years ago.

Banning of lawns???????????? Gee, grass, like all other plants outdoors, thrive off of CO2. Now isn't that one fo the "greenhouse gasses"? Go figure. We whine about polution and then destroy some of the biggest ways of stopping it. We cut every tree we see so we can plant cement, and now the grass has to go?
Where I live once in a great while they will stop people from watering the grass if they have city water running their sprinkler system. Poo on you, mine is on a well. Take your ticket book and shove it where the sun don't shine.

I'm allergic to sea-food and shell fish, lamb, venison, soy, hard cheeses (and the bacteria they use to process it), and many fruits and veggies.

Even if they are the pie in the sky wishers, everything for my pocket people we have running the country now. No matter which side of the isle they are on, they have nothing but their bank accounts in mind when the make laws.

Okay, this is the madness! If (big if) there is too much Co2, plants absorb Co2 and spew out oxygen. More Co2=more plants=more oxygen. It is a closed system. So what is the big thing here? Xeriscaping, which means ripping out all your plants, replacing them with decomposed granite and some decorative grasses, result? Less oxygen producing plants. And swaths of farmland in the Central Valley is being desertified by cutting water allotments to zero to protect the Delta smelt fish. This will lead to dustbowl effects...not to mention less food!

They're nuts!

Hi Sara. All is well. Still can't find Noah. My poor squirrels are still wearing their wet suits. It was a nice day until 11am when the thunder hit and the rains fell so hard the visibility was about ten feet. The only nice day we had was the 4th of July all month. Oh and yesterday it was pretty nice but it rained later in the day. I don't understand. If nothing else, I hope we have summer until November. This is a rip off of a great season. I feel like its still April!

I feel sorry for the construction workers, the painters, the cement guys. TOday my own contractors were supposed to start the window replacement project, fugettaboudit! With the weather the way its been they may never get to it. 32 windows to replace. That should take them a month.. :(

There was an incident not too far from us where a newly married couple who had bought a starter home purchased a nice stainless steel BBQ for their deck. One day it's gone. Obv. stolen. Several weeks later it appears back with this very teary apologetic note on it as to the guilt of the theft. Inside was also 2 tickets for top seats at a Toronto Blue Jay's game. Too bad the couple went to the game as upon their arrival home everything was gone  Dont look at me we have a new stainless steel one and it aint theirs LOL

Here is my problem with that. If someone did that to me when they came to "help themselves" to what I have there would be someone waiting on them. Probably with a blue light somewhere. If those guys would not come then me and "bubba" would be there. I guess I am just suspicious.

Oh Nawny i am so sorry-what a pain. Do they not lay down anything to walk on? Ya know if i was close i would come help. It will all be good-wait til noon and have a stiff one if the weebles are gone by then :rose:

HAAAAAAAAA!!!!

Yes I put a few throw rugs at the entrance of the door they're using but they are now trashed with mud. My weebles are leaving early today, so I might have me a hagnog. ;)

They are watching Sponge Bob Square Pants so I logged on to CNN. There is media coverage about the media coverage on MJ. I just read an article posted in the NY times referring to the memorial as "Gaudy" then went on to criticize the talking head's way of handling the event, and the comments were full of rage. GMAB! Of course it was very Hollywood (Makeup artists dream come true!, Thrills and frills and lots to gossip about) and certainly there is no need to say why, but the man is still dead. What's wrong with people?!

Why didn't Joe Jackson take his hat off?

Never mind.. :chicken:

My gawd your area has had enough!!! You must be ready for a vacation :rose:

Well, the other guy was a little scarey but this one was just a little nerve racking for a while. Such is the life of a Safety Guy. You have all kinds in construction. All I had to do was make sure my guys didn't get around it. You can not have "rubber neckers" in cases like that. They had the catch net up really quick so even if he had jumped he would not have hit the ground directly. He would have been hurt but probably not dead.

I am always ready for vacation or a lottery win.

I don't care who you are, that was funny.

On another note. We had a tense morning. One of the other companies had a threatened "jumper" this morning. he was on about the 4th level somewhere around 150 feet up. Took them almost two hours to get him down. They did talk him down and are getting the help he needs. Just not something you need on a Wednesday morning.

aaargh! At least they talked him down. I imagine the only thing worse than having to sit around with a job to do is having to see the guy jump after...was he a worker or did he walk on the site? Even worse if people know him...

Make it harder for the lightning to target him?
Hide the money he just got for scalping some of the tickets?
Convenient holder for the brass knuckles in case Jermain acted up?

IIRC he was an Iron Worker. Maybe not they will not put out his name as it should be. That is no one's business but his, the safety department and his new doctor's. He went to the hospital in an ambulance with the safety director and site nurse right behind. Again, as it should be.

This place is like Fort Knox. There is one way in and one way out. Everyone must go through the gate which is manned at all times even when we are not working. There is some history there from the beginning when protestors were chaining themselves to heavy equipment to attempt to stop work. Didn't work out so well for them. Construction workers have the equipment to cut those chains and then LE adds their own chains and then you get a free ride in a deputy's car. complete with the nice blue light on top flashing as you go down the road.:D

Hey OS i always miss your posts!!!!

Hi beem! Miss you and everyone...work has been a mutha, and on off time I started projects that I HAVE to get done. Why do I do this?! My oldest is having 60 kids over Friday night for her B day, meanwhile I'm painting the bathroom, staining the stairs and all this other stuff outside (because the weather is finally decent) ..DH comes home and then says.."how come you didn't do it like (this or that)"...then the family party is Sunday. I think I'm crazy. Just glad the tornado missed us, a half hour away they had fricken hailstorm and destruction that's not to be believed. :(
So...
I tell him "why don't you call your mother up and have Her come and do the things I'm doing?!" ;) Guess my point is that he's lucky I do it and I don't call the fricken Honey-Do man! Sorry, just venting.... my back is still not right, so a little whining is in order! :)

Yesterday the 5 weebles and I were stuck in the house and we almost ran out of things to do. We all had fun sewing buttons on hankies, colored for a while and had a cooking lesson while the rain fell in buckets. I don't think the red blob got here from Conn, but I may have missed it. ;)

LOL a cooking lesson with you. that is so cool. I wish I had cooking lessons as I grew up. And I miss coloring. I should have been there. Must be the red turned to green by the time it got to you. That is a good thing.
We are having a wonderful week of weather and I have no idea how to handle it. 70s and sunny during the day and 60's at night. I have to enjoy every minute. It is so nice being out of the house and warm!!! sara

Wow! You mean people want to come see us? ;) Is it this board or all of them. Maybe the MJ thread? Yesterday my PC was choking. I figured it was all the online fan fare for MJ. I want to understand (besides the fact that he was an artist) why the world is going all out on this man. He was an eccentric to the mth degree and yet... anyone wanna help me? Why a legend? :punch: This human need for icons escapes me.

They say he was in the Guiness book of world records as the artist who contributed the most money for needy causes. It seems the guy was generous to a fault and loved all people, especially children. All of th pedophile accusations were false and now he is akin to Christ. MJ was addicted, so they say, to some serious medications. I don't remember learning that Christ was on drugs. I don't mean to disrespect that he gave the music industry a hell of a lot of creative gifts, but .. oh the heck with it. I give up. If there was a man or woman i would want to cherish and look up to, it would be Helen Keller and Tony Soprano. Well, throw in a little Santino Corleone too... and maybe a touch of Clark Gable.

Okay, so I liked Michael Jackson, but I didn't love Micheal Jackson.

I'm going now.. ;) RIP Michael.

I don't think there is a resonable answer to those questions. I guess it is the desire to be rich and famous and that is why so many people make idols out of those who are rich and famous no matter who or what they are.

we had to take our son to a pediatric dental center today about 2 hours away from where we live. poor little guy had to go under anesthesia and everything.

i took him to the dentist here about three weeks ago and because of his age he had to be referred to this other place because he is too small for the x-ray machine here or something silly like that. soo....that meant no breakfast this morning, nothing to drink, or anything, we felt so bad

BUT we got there and he was of course a little trooper like he always is. i went with him back to the room to take his vitals and the nurse was really sweet with him, explained the whole thing to him with pictures from a book and gave him a little stuffed dog and his own little mask, he talked to her and got friendly which for him was amazing because he NEVER talks to strangers at all. then he got to ride in the wagon all the way back to the procedure room and they put him to sleep...about 1 1/2 hours later they called me back and told me that he only needed two crowns on his front teeth instead of what the dentist here said. they were telling me and the hubby about what to expect with him waking up, they gave us this paper with instructions and all that good stuff. he was a little groggy for about 20 minutes and then all of a sudden he was just awake and alert as could be. i couldn't believe how fast he recovered, he is such a little tough guy. instead of 4 to 6 hours it only took him about 2 to be fully awake and his normal self!! that's my boy

Yes our beautiful Sara.. too many people get too rich and bored and commit suicide via the installment plan. I always noticed that many people with lots of money find a baloney sandwich on the top of that mountain. Too often there is too much money, not enough love. I have my opinions about MJ. I say, if he was so loving and he had all that love in his heart, why wasn't he happy?" The true definition of love is HAPPY. What's wrong with that picture Sara?

I always noticed that many people with lots of money find a baloney sandwich on the top of that mountain. Too often there is too much money, not enough love. I have my opinions about MJ. I say, if he was so loving and he had all that love in his heart, why wasn't he happy?" The true definition of love is HAPPY. What's wrong with that picture Sara?
Good post Nawny-I think he forgot one important thing about love. You have to love yourself first to be happy. Then you can share it with others. (Excluding allegations made against Michael in my opinion here, just talking Michael)

I agree Beemer! Sometimes it's a struggle to love ourselves but we have to push on. I have struggled for many years to like myself (never mind love myself) I didn't see anything I ever did as worthy of praise. Childhood matters clouded my heart though I adored everyone else. I wanted my children to love themselves and preached their gifts to them.. praised them continuously so they wouldn't be like me.

It took forever for me to say, "get off my foot, it hurts." One day during the months surrounding my divorce from my children's dad and while I thought I was the scum of the earth for it, someone said to me, "If you don't take care of you, you cannot take care of anyone else." It sounds so logical now, but then, it catapulted me toward a search for a way to love myself. Books like, A Road Less traveled, and Louise Hayes, landed in my hands and many more, including the bible.

Now I don't have a hard time saying, "Get off my foot" in fact, I'll clobber the foot stepper in the head before they know what hit them. It took along, long time for me to figure out I was worthy of respect. But I have. I'm sad to know that MJ never realized he had such gifts, but I understand it. I read an article just this morning that said his father AND siblings referred to him as THE NOSE when he was younger. I remember my mother and siblings calling me names. Yes my mother. She claimed she was kidding when I cried. But it hurt, and it stayed.

People don't know why I call it a gift now. But it caused me to search some wonderful parts of life. It's all good Beemer!
:)

Yeah wonder how that perfection is working for her now-especially since she does not have to hide things so the Jones's dont know. Now the whole friggin world knows. That must be one hard fall on the arse. Yeah i cant wait to see Liar. I think she is prolly still primping for her when i get out of jail in Miami beach day. we had to take our son to a pediatric dental center today about 2 hours away from where we live. poor little guy had to go under anesthesia and everything.

i took him to the dentist here about three weeks ago and because of his age he had to be referred to this other place because he is too small for the x-ray machine here or something silly like that. soo....that meant no breakfast this morning, nothing to drink, or anything, we felt so bad

BUT we got there and he was of course a little trooper like he always is. i went with him back to the room to take his vitals and the nurse was really sweet with him, explained the whole thing to him with pictures from a book and gave him a little stuffed dog and his own little mask, he talked to her and got friendly which for him was amazing because he NEVER talks to strangers at all. then he got to ride in the wagon all the way back to the procedure room and they put him to sleep...about 1 1/2 hours later they called me back and told me that he only needed two crowns on his front teeth instead of what the dentist here said. they were telling me and the hubby about what to expect with him waking up, they gave us this paper with instructions and all that good stuff. he was a little groggy for about 20 minutes and then all of a sudden he was just awake and alert as could be. i couldn't believe how fast he recovered, he is such a little tough guy. instead of 4 to 6 hours it only took him about 2 to be fully awake and his normal self!! that's my boy

and now we are back and tired as can be LOL but we don't have to go back down there again because they went ahead and did everything today all at once. so YAY

great turnout. I think the meds to put patients to sleep for minor things are getting better and better just like outpatient. I am glad you did not have to wait 4-6 hours and all could go home and rest. sara

Personally he kept everyone at bay in my thoughts. did not want to get too close and get hurt. very sensitive. The media says if someone disagreed with him- he would no longer talk to the person. I disagree with DH and friends quite frequently. Everyone knows I am just voicing my opinion. Plus he became so popular so young and stayed that way through is life left a big influence. He was probably taken advantage of many times by people he cared about so here again he was unable to love without getting hurt. Felt he could not trust anyone. He could not really have a SO since he was always in the media and wanted to be private. Not to mention I am sure he was depressed by the child molestation charges true or not. Again he had all the plastic surgeries that worked out badly especially the nose he hated. And finally he was in a lot of pain physically from what he put his body through. No wonder he wanted to sleep and be out of pain. this is my thought anyways. IMO sara

Ah! That word (Perfection) makes it hard to be free inside. It sort of makes us self conscious, doesn't it? Perfection is impossible because it's relative actually. As an artist I know there is no perfection. Everything we do is art, no matter how we do it. ;) Our parents did their best to make us the best we can be. I'm not always sure if they did it for us or themselves, but there is no use beating them up at this point. The only thing we can do about their way, is to do it another way with our kids. And sometimes our way doesn't work. We are always striving for the "right way" LOL!!

I had to wait until I was 40. My father and I were agruing the Bush vs Gore election. I said Bush was an idiot and was going to find a reason to go to war in Iraq to avenge his father. (this was before the election) My father said that I was embarrassing and he hoped I didn't speak like that in front of others. I said "I'm 40 years old, when am I allowed to have my own opinion?" Newsweek's Top 100 Books: The Meta-List
Declaring the best book ever written is tricky business. Who's to say what the best is? We went one step further: we crunched the numbers from 10 top books lists (Modern Library, the New York Public Library, St. John's College reading list, Oprah's, and more) to come up with The Top 100 Books of All Time. It's a list of lists — a meta-list. Let the debate begin.

I'm waiting for the ac man. I called Wed and said I would be home Fri am, and could I get in for the morning? Sure, since I called so far ahead. NOT!!!! Did just get a call from the ac repair office, asking if it would be a good time for the available tech to come over. So, I am waiting for him. (I was very tactful, not making any sarcastic remarks about being told someone would come EARLY.)

I needed an early call, as we are moving our parents to a nursing home today, and where they are is 70 miles from here. My sisters in the area are working, so I really wanted to be able to be there to help get them moved. It was short notice, and they had to get a lot of paper work done in just a few days, hope it is all kosher.

Just got a call from a sister who says she can't talk now, she's driving. But plans to move are put off til Monday, so I guess the time I get there today isn't going to be problem. Guess I will hop down today, see what is going on, probably be the one to stay tonight. Have to work Sunday and Monday nights, so won't be able to help out (unless they put me on call for Sunday night and I get some sleep.) 'Tis a heartbreaking process, that's for sure.

HELLO the air has barely been on this year due to so many cool days. She is going to have a lock box put on the thermostat and she will be the key holder. She is barely ever there anymore. Once the humidity sets in here it's unbearable-especially in that building as there is no airflow. So hi ho hi ho off to the union I/we-prolly I go. Lordy whats the matter with people??? Heat makes for crabby people and less productive. Then beh's increase. I must remind her of that  Or suggest she go get laid. Lordy did i say that? I can think it tho :punch:

Oh my Beemer. What a control freak she is. Like you are all a bunch of children. I hope you can do something. I could not work ih that heat. sara

I wish you well Amy-that is a tough one. I am glad they are together and not alone. Good luck with your AC as well. Safe travels :rose:

Thanks. I just figured, once old folks sold everything off, that whatever their retirement funds were per month, and their Social Security would be taking care of their being in a nursing home. NOT. Seems they have to apply for Medicare for whatever reason. And, it seems there might be an issue w/Mom--Daddy broke his hip and @ the present time can't get around much. But the doc who talked to us said they BOTH need 24/7 supervision, mostly for their dementias that are rising ugly heads. It certainly seems to me that if they cannot be left alone, that would qualify even Mom for nursing home. Guess we will see what the next month brings. Daddy is going to a skilled care facility where they do extensive rehab. Mom is allowed to be there, but @ this time, we do have to pay for her. Well, they do...Mom says they have saved a lot of money for something like this. Oldest sis says, a lot of money to Mom, but not much, really.

Daddy had told their financial planner (a sweet lady, a saint who they go to see @ least once a week, it seems) he wanted a reliable car for Mom in case anything happened to him. They traded in the one vehicle for another, and 2 days later, he is out of commission. Poor Mom only got to drive the van home, and now they have to sell it!! Of course, the roads are probably a lot safer without her driving, but she was up til Daddy got hurt. Daddy's 91 y/o sister still drives, tho. But Mom has really gone down hill since she has only been to their home for one afternoon in the 3 weeks since Daddy fell. I can't believe it's only been 3 weeks, seems like we have been going thru this for a month or so now.

But, on a good note, the ac is working, SOOOO nice!!! And it only cost $187!!!! I was dreading maybe having to look @ a new unit, which just wasn't going to happen, I sure don't have that kind of money laying around!!!

I guess, if she's hardly there, it doesn't concern her about her comfort, anyway. Has she worked in this field for long? And in what capacity? It sure doesn't take a rocket scientist to know that the heat will certainly affect behaviours, not only of the staff, but of the clientelle!!! And, seems they are already in unstable conditions if they are there. Maybe the union could get you all a new boss? lol

Amy-

So sorry you're having to go through this.

When my grandmother started slipping into dementia, we finally had to put her in a skilled nursing facility for her own safety.

Grandpa wanted her to stay with my mom-as they were separated-and have mom get private care nurses to come in for 2 shifts.

Mom told him that she'd never get ANY REST, because she'd never be able to sleep with strangers in the house for 16 hours of the day.

And Grandma had lived with her for about 8 years prior to that because she wasn't taking her meds and couldn't keep her apartment up.

She was SO ANGRY when she lost the freedom of having her own place.

And when we took Grandma to the nursing home, she was just LIVID-very hostile and combative.

When Grandpa had his stroke, he, too ended up in the nursing home, and ended up wanting to be at Mom's-again with the 2 shifts of nurses coming and going.

It's NEVER easy to have to place a family member in care. Not only do we feel guilty for "abandoning" them, there are so many mixed feelings through the whole thing.

The saving grace to our situation was the fact that the nursing home we chose for my grandparents has one of the highest ratings in our state, and was VERY CLOSE so we could visit so much more easily.

And they came to feel that my grandparents were parts of their families.

When they passed away, the staff was there for us, and even grieved along with us.

Hopefully, you and your family will find that you have a similar bond with the staff, and that it's an over-all safe and good experience-as much as humanly possible.

Has your weather straightened up any Nawny? We are due today for high temps and high humidity-with that comes storms.

Yes its finally a beautiful day! THe lawn is as green as can be and the trees and flowers are so beautiful today. It's the first day in ages when I didn't have the heat or a jacket on. I actually had the air on in my car as I did my errands. Very soon I'll be complaining about the heat! I hate it when the ice cream melts on the way home from the market. :)

Oh Amy, I know how you feel about placing your parents in permanent care. I remember feeling beyond awful about it. But sensible as it is, it feels so strangely sad.

My mother was a very regal woman all of her life. She was very difficult to take care of in her later years. Her confusion and weakness made it hard to bear for her and for us so it had to be done. I was pleasantly surprised when I visited her and she said she liked it there. She said it was like a hotel! They serve you, she said with a happy smile. I almost fainted. The care is 24/7 and made her feel safe. When it was time for poppa's mom to go into a nursing home, the same thing happened.

Once she adjusted and recognized her care givers, she became very orientated in that world and felt safe. She began to know the routine and became a part of a social group, which she found fun. Though poppa was shaking in his boots when we went to see her the first time, he was sure we did the right thing. Actually it was her doctor that declared her incompetent. (What did he know that she was a drama queen Italian mother?) She wasn't as incompetent as he thought, but I guess she was just tired of the struggle and felt out of place because she couldn't be productive.

I was upset when they took her off the xanax she had been taking for twenty years because I saw her angst. I went to speak to the doctor in the nursing home and the social worker. They were surprised that they did not know she was on those meds for so long which made her behavior make more sense. She was trying to escape at first and causing a ruckus at the place. They put her back on the xanax and she became an instant angel. THe poor lady was addicted. I had tears in my eyes when I spoke to them about her issues and the doctor asked me why I was upset. I told him I wasn't sure she belonged there. His answer: "If she didn't belong here, she'd have taken a taxi out of here days ago."

I thought I had a moral obligation to her and to my own mother. He said, "You Have a moral obligation to your own family and to make sure your mothers get the best care available. One person cannot take care of anyone with dementia.

I had to agree. It is 24-7 care. They don't sleep. :( So you can't either. Then all hell breaks loose.

Be strong and know they will be safe, fed, clean, and entertained. If I were old and couldn't take care of myself, the last place I would want to be is home alone staring at 4 walls. Nursing homes don't have a great reputation, but so much of that is undeserved. I've seen great care given to the geriatric crown. Lots of socializing and good entertainment. The routines are impeccable. They love to be distracted. :) I'll be thinking of you Amy..

Chin up! It's all good.
