I took a bath in the new air tub tonight. I lit lots of candles, Poppa poured me a Bailey's on ice, I set the timer for 20 minutes , got in the water at 95 degrees and fell sound asleep. I was too tired to relax.

Thank you and all the others for the words of support.

Today they came to my town (but I was @ work :() where the movie theater has a senior day and folks from nursing homes all around come to see a movie. Today's was about Amelia Earhart. Sis asked if Mom enjoyed it. She said yes, but she already knew how it would end!!! :D Daddy said it was alright, but he couldn't hear!!

I think Mom is going to be okay- there are people to talk to and things to do. They were out in the middle of nowhere, and all the folks their age from around there are dead or in nursing homes. Daddy isn't so social, and can't hear. He was used to being able to putter around the garage, push a lawn mower, and now he doesn't have any of that to occupy his time.

I don't know if this is possible, Amy, but if your dad is the handy type, maybe having a smaller version of what he's used to could help. I know my grandfather, when he couldn't build houses anymore, started refinishing furniture. Considering where your dad is, maybe something like fixing up antique clocks or whatever suits him would make him happier? Then he could still putter with a set of tools, but on a smaller scale...good luck! Its so hard!

LOL!!!! Everyone has fun at Nawny's house! It's a meatball heaven. :)

You laugh, but that's why they won't go away! Starve 'em out, Nawny!

I found with cable guys, if I offered them a Pepsi when they made a service call, I got free cable. If I offered them cookies, I also had a houseguest for 2 hours. So I stuck to Pepsi.

Hi Drew B! How are you feeling? I've been in a funk this past month but I'm feeling better. I don't go on the other threads much, I should check them out more.
You take care!

Hi Nawn. I'm feeling much better. Healing slowly. I know what those funks are like. I tend to isolate and bury myself in books. Sounds like you're coming out of it. I think we need the funks sometime; our bodies/minds are telling us to slow down. I'm working on focusing on "here and now" to get more enjoyment out of moments rather than constant worry about future.
Gotta share some news today: my oldest son, Drew (28) has announced he and his fiance', Stephanie, plan to marry on July 10!! They've been together a little over 1 yr. Love each other alot and seem to have good goals together. I was the first of my siblings to have a child, so Drew is the first to get married in my family. I'm very happy for them. Gawd knows this year has been hell. 2010 is already looking brighter.:)
Good to hear from you.

Hi Beem,

Getting better slowly. I worked a full week so I was extremely tired yesterday and perked up this afternoon. I was so bust at work catching up and then falling asleep by 9 that I didn't have much computer time. My lungs are clear and my ribs weren't broken, but separated. They feel better too. Things are slowly going back to normal. thanks for asking.

Thanksgiving is five days away and the temperature is still in the 80's. Doesn't feel like the holidays at all. I'm in my bedroom with the window open to let some fresh air and it's still warm out at 8;30. It will be another Christmas in shorts. I can't remember the last time I was able to dress up.

Isn't it always warm in FL even during the winter? Well, for the most part, anyway. I would think it would be a little cooler when the tropical storms or hurricanes come roaring in.

THANKS EVERYONE]for the congrats and well wishes! You guys are such a great group. The kids have reserved an outdoor rose garden about 50 mi. north of Seattle. The venue is a poplular wedding site on private property owned by tulip farmers. In the spring it's a popular tourist attraction; hundreds of acres of all kinds of tulips. By summer the tulips are gone but the rose gardens are spectacular. This farmland is in the valley at the base of the Cascade Mountain range. They're planning on 170 people (so far). Anyway, I'm delighted to be getting a daughter! I'll keep you posted.

Here in Seattle we've had nothing but strong winds and rain for the past week. It is quite normal to have severe wind storms at Thanksgiving. That said, I think WE ALL should meet at Gator's for Thanksgiving!! Shall we bring swimsuits, Gator?

Thanksgiving has to be my favorite holiday.. I do it the same every year but I''m thinking , would it be blasphemy if I didn't make the chicken escarole soup this year? I had a taste of summer squash cream soup in Vermont and fell in love with it. My mother might throw her rolling pin at me from heaven though, so I'm not sure if I would dare NOT make that fongool soup! I never eat it, I just cook it.. I'm also thinking no lasagna. I might make the Gorgonzola/prosciutto ravioli instead..or some other ravioli.. like the ricotta/spinach or the eggplant/ricotta.. there are so man new versions.. Oh hide me!

And I guess I can't change the turkey, ham and all the other trimmings. yep artichokes stuffed. Pumpkin pie, chestnuts, OMG..

I have to google summer squash soup. It can't be that hard to make. One day to cook it all, and 20 minutes to eat it. I'm a masochist, I know.:punch:

Yeah let's go crash Gator's Thanksgiving! She can come here and dress up in her Thanksgiving clothes. I'll take Florida! It is wierd though at Thanksgiving in the sunshine state. I was amazed to see the way they do up Christmas too. It felt like another planet while the sun was shining and no one had on coats.

Here, after the festivities are over, around 7pm, we can hear the Christmas music from the little town of Phenix only a block away from my house. They raise a huge Christmas tree and turn on the lights. We sit on the porch (porch monkeys;) ) and listen to the music and watch the crowd walking down to the town.. it's usually freezing cold but so nice. I love it.

CNN has a new interface. It's my home page, where I read the news every day. There is a part of it called i-report which lists headings of news stories. Under HEALTH on top of the page.. There is a link that connects you to the stories and an option to add your own story if you choose. Also listed are comments.

Well, yesterday I noticed there is a story about suicide survivors, what they go through and how little support they get because the subject is very hushed and marked with shame.

There are many stories about the depression and demanding grief that goes with it when someone you love takes their life. So I posted an excerpt from Danny's book Why Whisper.. I hope it helped someone, even just one person. DrewB if you're around, give it a look. The stories are all familiar. Also, there are people starting support groups for this kind of trauma that helps a lot more than the regular grief groups.

LMAO yea i know that feeling well.

i was comparing my older son to my younger son today and i had a thought. Luukas developed very quickly, always leaping ahead.

Isaac is doing that too but he is going slightly faster than Luukas did. my thought is this: Luukas was born while i was on an epidural and Isaac was all natural....maybe the epidural effects babies more than i thought before. my mom says that is idiotic but it made me go hmmm.....

It could well be. I had some thoughts on that with baby #2. She was very puffy and sleepy when she was born. All gone now, but...the epidural with her was MUCH stronger than with baby #1. Of course, she also got the business: single umbilical artery, breech turned at 37 weeks, induced...so maybe not the epidural alone. Poor kid-but no problems now!.

But I do not think your theory is idiotic. I suspect that some anesthesiologists are better at giving less drugs than others, too, which may well alter the effects so it doesn't show consistency in studies, you know?

It could well be. I had some thoughts on that with baby #2. She was very puffy and sleepy when she was born. All gone now, but...the epidural with her was MUCH stronger than with baby #1. Of course, she also got the business: single umbilical artery, breech turned at 37 weeks, induced...so maybe not the epidural alone. Poor kid-but no problems now!.

But I do not think your theory is idiotic. I suspect that some anesthesiologists are better at giving less drugs than others, too, which may well alter the effects so it doesn't show consistency in studies, you know?

yea...it makes sense imo. Baby #1 was not only quiet and sleepy at birth, but turned out to be very laid back and chill all the way through his toddler years. Baby # 2 with no epidural and hardly any painkillers was alert and loud right off the bat and has continued to be everyday. makes me wonder what Luukas would have been like had i not had the epidural with him lol, with how smart he is now and how smart he was then its almost a scary thought

Also, there are people starting support groups for this kind of trauma that helps a lot more than the regular grief groups.

that is wonderful Nawny. I have been to ireports but never saw a thing on suicide and we need more info and experiences to learn about it.

I started my twice a year sinus battle on Wednesday of last week. It got so bad on Thursday I went to see the nurse at the job site. She promptly took my temp. and sent me to a Dr. My temp was fine but she couldn't take a chance on me having the piggy thing with that many people around me. I didn't have it, like I tried to tell her. I slept about 13 hours Friday night and Saturday and I feel a bunch better now.

I hate fall and early spring. I always get sick for about a week or so. Well, that is over for the year.

Hope you're feeling better Deacon. I know the Spring is bad for allergies but the month of October is the worst (goldenrods, those pesky yellow weeds in the South). My daughter got a severe ear infection every year in Oct. brought on by the sinus infections, and I cannot breathe in the month of March or October. I'm slow, but I think Oct got extended into Nov this year.

There will be days, like my daughter describes where her mind goes into the "OTHER MOTHER" mode and she claims her children look like need bags with feet and long arms that are reaching out to her like a part in some scary movie. They are trying to reach what's left of her brain so they can eat it. lol! And I quoted her.

Oh my gosh! The stuff we mothers aren't supposed to admit! You put it into print! high treason!!! lol!!

Yes now my house is almost complete. Many years of waiting, is worth it. I didn't think I'd live to see a bathroom like that. Finally done right. I've been doctoring up houses for years. I've painted and wall papered more times than I can count, but this one, this one is the bomb.

I'm a big thinker.. think think think.. sometimes poppa says, stop thinking. I love the domestic stuff. I'm also a great bargain hunter. Most of the furniture in this house was bought at flea markets and yard sales. I love to strip furniture. Tell your little man he's welcome to come over and visit Nawny. I got the good cookies. :-)

Nawny i just read your story on i report. I am speechless it it beautiful :rose: When is your book out? It's a must read for me. I would be honored to have your book on my bookshelf. Just so beautiful :rose:

The book was getting closer to publication a few months ago, but now they want me to reformat it and there's a ton of work involved. It's a long, long process. Sigh ~~ It's tuff to rewrite, move stuff around and invent truth. The version I pasted in i-report was raw and spontaneous.

I want to write another kind of book. A funny one. Like maybe, The World According to Casey Anthony and Company.. lol!
Workin on it.

Thank you Beem. :o I'm not a great writer, the words in Why Whisper are all true. I just talk on paper. I know we are all writers here.

Thanks for thinking of me, Nawn. I checked out i-reports. Even though I have read much of your book, it helped to read again. Nawny, please let us know when your book is published! It is simply beautiful.
As a therapist for several years now, I have dealt with my share of suicide. Since Dad took his own life in March, I have not found a group that fits me and the resources are limited when it comes to suicide. You're right, most grief and loss groups just lump everyone together. Several years ago I facilitated a group for teens who lost a parent to suicide. Quite a learning experience for me.
I did find a group for spouses so my mother could get some support. She went once and said: "I'm doing better than most of the group members so I don't need to go back." Well, she's not doing "better." She's extremely depressed, angry, guilt-ridden, and downright mean to me. It's not healthy for me to be around her so I'm keeping my distance right now.
Bless you Nawny for sharing your story and insight.

And thank you, for sharing yours Drew..

THis kind of journey is quite different than the ordinary grief (if there is such a thing as ordinary grief-grief is grief.) But when someone we love takes their own life, leaving us to argue with ourselves, convincing ourselves that we could have done something to save them-we suffer more and more. We lash out at those who least deserve it. We get angry at life because it keeps going on and we don't understand how it could. It's a stage that seems endless.

I made concerted effort to get strong. It was a literal decision. For me, personally, I looked at the idea of being a grieving mother forever; stay weak, stay broken, stay wounded. But the cost was too high. I didn't want that handicap. It's just another kind of death; another kind of suicide. I couldn't do it to my kids, my friends, poppa or myself.

Danny' death cannot define me. I am defined by the way I treat myself and others. I want to embrace life, that is who I am. Anyway, were would I be today if I didn't feel the love from laughing weebles. I would have missed blowing bubbles in my yard on a sunny day, stringing colorful beads, teaching little girls to play hop scotch, showing them how to make meat balls, watching Wonder Pets on Noggin, or listening to the philosophies of 8 weebles who make my world beautiful! They are innocent and they don't generate anger or sorrow.

Of course I miss Danny, but he is closer than anyone thinks. I talk with him every day. Last week I was in a terrible funk, since the season is a trigger. I managed to cook and have a wonderful birthday party for poppa and spent time with the family, the kids and lord knows, I had to push through it, but I got through it.. I even felt a little angry with Danny though I thought that part was over. My heart wanted to be troubled.

I was preparing food the morning of Poppa's party and I looked out the window into the sky and said "Why? You little %~!@, why? I cried, wiped my tears and thought, No, I'm not going there. We need to be happy today. :)

That chair sounds great! Yes I've seen new furniture and I've been forced to buy pieces for my youngest daughter who hates antiques. I laugh at her when it falls apart and say, see? You should have accepted the old oak dressers I offered ya, they will last through a third world war and a hundred hurricanes. Are you kidding me? My oldest daughter however, loves them and has gotten lots of furniture from Poppa, who had more than we could fit in this house.

I looked at some end tables last year in Thomasville Furniture and they wanted close to $1000 each, LOL! Fools! Flea markets have better ones for low dollars. One of my favorites was a pie table that was painted many times. We stripped it and got the paint off the carved roses around the edges perfect - with a toothbrush! I saw a similar one in the Covell book of antiques and it was priceless. I almost fainted when I saw the value.

When I met poppa, he had a beautiful house filled with magnificent stuff. After he showed me each piece and told me the price, I thought he was high. He said the entire collection didn't exceed $2000 dollars. And, there was not one single item bought in a store. I learned quick!

The best part is, ya can't kill the stuff! It's kid friendly.. (well most of it.. not the lamps or the hour glasses, we had several funerals for those) I had had some great luck on eBay too! I found some beautiful chamber pots.. lf ya like those.. lol! Imagine the days when people had to use those??? LOL!!

When we met, he took me to a huge antique shop in Massachusetts. I was looking through a big jewelry box admiring the stuff. The man behind a counter said, We just cleaned out an estate and the woman had some very classy stuff. I said, where is she, why did she give you her jewelry? (double duh..)
I dropped what I was holding, and turned to poppa and said, Ah! she's dead! I don't want a dead woman's stuff!! He said, why not? Someone will be wearin your stuff when you're dead. You've just entered the circle of antiques! Oooch!

Gosh I'm long winded today! :D I'm a real live secondhand Rose! Even my piano is second hand! I love it though. Its all good! We just borrow things in life, and when we die, someone else will be using the darn stuff.:chicken:

I like thinking about the people who owned these things in the past. We have a very old Spanish table and I love to think about how many people have owned it and what they used it for. Was it in a church to set the sacraments on? Or a house for holding the candlesticks? And how did it get HERE? Such stories in my head. I read this great book once about a diamond. It travelled through a Jewish family for dozens of generations, given to the first girl in each generation named Rachel. Ahh. If things could talk!

I come from an antique-ey family, though, and the problem is when people are passing on, I simply cannot let anything go! So my tiny house is too crowded with furniture.

I'm not the least bit surprised that you love antiques :) Look at your education and career?! You dig up ancient things and work in a museum! LOL
I too imagine who laid their hands on our stuff before we did. It's wild huh?

It wouldn't matter how big your house was, it would still be crowded, ask me.
It's in the circle of antique hoarding. Yep!

I just finished putting everything in place in the new bedroom that was Poppa's office for a few years. THe bathroom and that room are now done.
Finally! And I am so pleased I took pictures of it before my weebs come and undo me. :punch:

I'm taking a coffee break before I go upstairs and straighten "that" mess out.

I'm fixing the upstairs for my lovely weebles when they have their sleep overs. I made a den out of our old bedroom and poppa's old bookcases are waiting for me to put hundreds of books back in them. Oye! I have a job before me!
Too much junk!! Shhh don't tell poppa I called his treasures names.. lol!

They are older now and since I took them all from one treasure to the other and let them hold/touch each one, they lost interest. I also bought them each a wooden box and painted their names on them so they can keep their own treasures safe. It's a big deal now. :) They have a play room here and that's where they hang out. 1 year olds don't get threatened coolie poppins, but 5,6, nd 7 year old's do..

We both know it is never over. There is no such thing as closure. (I wish that word was eliminated from the English language!) But there is healing along the way and we do our best. Deacon, glad to hear you are feeling better.

Drewberry and Nawny, thanks for the insights. And, Nawny, your house is lovely, I enjoy reading about your reno adventures.

JLette--I have one of each, and from my experience, little girls can be as destructive (whether intentional, or accidental) as any little boy can!!!

BoB-I'm going thru the can't let things go dilemma now. While the stuff the folks have are probably not antiques (old, maybe, antiques, questionable) they are the things I remember growing up with. Their stuff and my grandma and granny's stuff. I don't really have the room, tho. Plus, I think we really need to sell what we can as they need the $$$. Selling stuff would make it so we can't all fight over who gets what, anyway. I already have pics of most of the furniture, all included in pics taken @ family get togethers. Figured I could do as well just to have the pics and the memories.

My wife's mother worked in an antique store for years. Most of our furniture came from England. And it is old. I would be scared to say what some of it would bring now.

My son grew up in that house and really didn't break anything. He was too busy chasing the cat in the house and the dog in the yard. That and hitting golf balls from about 3 years old.

Too many posts to quote.

Don't let me see those pictures Amy!! I'll get into trouble for sure :)
I'm so curious... :o I'll betcha that furniture is just beautiful!

PS: Since it is the time of year to give thanks, I'd like to say that I am grateful for finding this board and meeting you and so many other wonderful, caring individuals. Your story has inspired me and lifted me during some dark days. It is all good. :rose: Thank you, Nawny.

Awww, I agree Drew. I remember when you first got here. Instant friends! :) This place is very comforting and many times when the last thing I wanted to do was laugh, I ended up wiping tears of laughter instead of sadness. Great group! How many times I wanted to meet all of you. It would be a great reason to travel wouldn't it? I have so many places on my bucket list because of this board.

I haven't finished putting books away yet. I've been at this big monster house all day for 2 days. I really want to know why poppa thinks its necessary to save his college books. I mean who wants to read Business Law or Chemistry? I found all his Roswell books too,, groan.. My books and his are so different. I have Ann Rule too! Marcia Clark :chicken: I want to tell you by OJ:chicken: Edgar Cayce :chicken: Coffee Table Book of Astrology:chicken:

That looks even bigger than the wings for the wind generators!!! We see those going along the highway, @ least 3 @ a time (cuz each generator has 3.) Haven't seen the towers they are attached to, tho. I think the towers are in pieces.

Mr Sanford ought to hang up his hat. Do many of the people living there think that landing that contract is enough to keep him in office? Seems like 37 sanctions would outweigh that.

That trailor it is on is 365 feet long. The stator and the trailor weighs 1.9 million pounds. The stator itself weighs 880 thousand pounds. I gotta watch when they lift that thing into place. It will be somewhere around 80 feet in the air on the concrete.

Luv Ann Rule-have read tons of her books. Weird how she (slightly) knew Ted Bundy.

Hey Beemers! Ann knew Ted quite well; I believe she actually worked with him somewhere in Tacoma? I'll have to check. Both are from Seattle area and knew each other in the 70's. That's when his killing spree began in local lake resorts a few miles east of Seattle where I lived. I was 20 and shared a house with 4 other girls. We were absolutely terrified at that time. Young women turning up dead with no leads. Gives me the chills just remembering!
Ann actually got an interview with Bundy before his execution. I've read all her books and re-read a few. She's former LE and writes truthfully and from the heart. Love her.

(Speaking for myself, of course!)

I'm with Poppa. I can't seem to let go of most of my college books. Every time I move, I weed out a few but they are my treasures. Thousands of dollars of my own $ purchased those books! Still use them from time to time but didn't get my MA until 2000 so they are still somewhat current! My DSM IV has seen better days, but I use it daily until the nim-wits finally approve the DSM V.

Maybe the same people who would be wanting to read 40 y/o nursing books? ;) I even have one of my Mom's--it would be more like 60+ years old. (Grey's Anatomy, is the title.) And several "sets" of nursing skill books. I have places that will take my Mom's extensive Reader's Digest Condensed library. And a lot of my miscellaneous books. I guess I could try the same lady for the nursing books. I can give her ALL my books, and then she either sells or throw them away. I just can't bear to throw away a book.

Plan on keeping my full set of Nancy Drew (the original, not the later paper backs) and the full set of Trixie Beldon. And my partial set of Cherry Ames and Happy Hollisters and Bobsey Twins. And my full set of Little House books. And all my JFK books. And all my Perry Mason books, and Emily Loring ones. And, all the kids books, little kids, youth and teens that I have had for ever so many years. Doing away with all the others, I think I can cut down by maybe 2 book cases--the tall ones. Of course, there is the little thing about going thru the books Mom still has that I remember growing up. I will have to fight some of the sisters for those, tho. Maybe will settle for just a couple of really important ones, and let the rest go. After all, my kids will have to get rid of whatever I leave behind. Don't want to make the job too onerous for them.

Plus, I have found a place that will take my LP collection. I remember taping them to cassette tapes some years ago, cuz it was so hard (and expensive) to find a turn table and then to find needles. Now, it's hard to find a cassette player--and for sure, only CD's now in the cars. This guy will even sell them on commission-and just give away those that aren't of much interest. I think he sells them for just a few bucks each. I guess I really don't care, as long as I don't have to throw them away.

Every time I have moved, I have moved all the books and records myself. My SO will help move everything else, but thinks I am foolish to have those around, let alone move them. So, I have never asked him to, just so I wouldn't have to listen to him make remarks.

Yep, your stator beats those wind generator parts by a mile. The generator wings were on long semi's, but I don't know about 365 feet. They sure don't look as big or as heavy as the stator. Maybe all 3 together would be the same size/weight.

I hope you get to watch it being lifted from a safe distance!!! That would really hurt if it dropped on your toe!!! ;)

They worked together (or was it volunteer?) on a suicide hotline. She also attended his trial. I don't know how many years passed between their working together and the trial. I don't have as many Cherry Ames as I'd like. Those are hard to come by these days. I started my collection w/Nancy Drew when I was in grade school, and had little money left over to get Cherry Ames. I found several a couple of years ago @ the local booknook.

@ least he says he was spending time with his daughter, not some mistress, lol. Then says wife and daughter. Now, that isn't Kimberly What'shername Newsom, is it? He has a new wife?

I notice that one of the events he missed that he says he was never scheduled for, altho one would think that one would have to think a bit about the event names, having attended 69 events in however many days, that he said he was attending 3 events @ the same time. He sure must be superhuman, maybe you all ought to keep him as mayor!!!! :D

People attain that level of fame and then let it go to their heads. They, all of a sudden, think they can do as they please and nothing will happen. They are above the law. The world revolves around them.

Then they can not understand when the world caves in around them. They are not suppose to be in trouble.

I love all books and love to be surrounded by them. I'd hang them on my windows as drapes if I could. I love the smell of them, and I love to open them in the middle and read a paragraph. If it reaches me, I buy the book. When traveling NE, when I see an old bookstore, I have to stop and go in. I've accumulated many treasures from those old stores and certainly got educated about things I would have never known.

Technology has replaced the art of holding a book in my hands, but it's not the same feeling. Yesterday when I was re-stocking the bookcases, it took so long because I was handling books I hadn't looked at for years. I sat on the floor and read parts of Dickinson, Poe, and a few others. I miss my old friends. I laughed when I saw some of the books I used to read. :o OMG! SO many passages! And the dried roses pressed between some of them. Why? LOL! I still love Emmanuel by Pat Rodagast, put it on my bedside table.

God love books!!!! In olden times, of course, books were the basic form of entertainment. Historically, governments around the world literally burned books to keep people from gaining knowledge they didn't want them to have. One thing always made me raise an eyebrow when I read, The Vatican Empire and learned that in the Vatican, locked in a room of their library was a very old collection of Astrology books. Ahh HA! Surprised? NOT!

Samantha's parties, my celebration of loretta's 10,000 posts (I ate Potato Chips) and all the pasta just doesn't work to my benefit. ;) Anyway, Low Fat Half&Half is an oxymoron! It's blasphemy! Nawny's cawffee is her drug and shouldn't be messed with. :hat:

When I go to a restaurant I always order coffee. I ask if its fresh. I look for the coffee machine to see what level the coffee is at and if I don't trust it, I order espresso or cappuccino because I know they have to make it fresh. Even poppa knows, and he looks for the coffee pot and if it's sitting there with sludge at the bottom of the pot, he squeals on them.. pssst, don't order the coffee, he tells me.

Speaking of Astrology!

Horoscopes by Holiday for November 24
The tension between Venus and Jupiter can still be felt. For many, it will seem that hard work is not in itself enough to bring about results. Consider the other things that might give you an edge. Do you know the right people who can make things happen for you? Take this as a hint from the stars to combine smart work with hard work.

ARIES (March 21-April 19). When relationships get tense, a new mindset will be your freedom. If you don't attach any conditions to your love, you will find happiness with the love you get. Singles: Tonight you get along best with Cancer and Libra people.

TAURUS (April 20-May 20). You'll receive a signal, and the message is hard to miss — it's time to clear out the sentimental clutter from your life. This cleansing is likely to be both material and emotional.

GEMINI (May 21-June 21). There are so many in need that it can be overwhelming to know where to start. Let your charitable impulses guide the way. Your random act of kindness does real good in the world.

CANCER (June 22-July 22). Whatever mood shifts happen during the course of the day, by the end of the day things will look beautiful to you once again. The light that falls out of the sky makes everything bright and golden and dazzling.

LEO (July 23-Aug. 22). However many compliments you get today, you deserve a few more. No one is as put-together as you. But it's not really about a new tie or a different shade of eye shadow. Something inside you radiates — it's just so you.

VIRGO (Aug. 23-Sept. 22). You'll hark back to another time in your life. Remembering it makes you realize that you have so much to be thankful for now. Your appreciation attracts greater cause for celebration.

LIBRA (Sept. 23-Oct. 23). A dull sense that something is wrong will turn into an alarm bell. Knowing what the problem is — that's something to celebrate! Pinpointing the trouble source will move you to action.

SCORPIO (Oct. 24-Nov. 21). You'll be so happy with what you have that you don't even give a thought to what others have. Life is better when everyone minds his or her own business. That's how you know that your spirit is truly full.

SAGITTARIUS (Nov. 22-Dec. 21). There's a difference between a touchstone and an anchor. If something is holding you back, you'll now recognize exactly what it is. Jettison the thing that once brought you comfort but is now a source of stagnation.

CAPRICORN (Dec. 22-Jan. 19). You've been chosen by the cosmos to be the center of attention in your world, and it will feel right to have all eyes on you.

It's like there's a stream of light from above following you around all day.

AQUARIUS (Jan. 20-Feb. 18). There's a competition going on — but only if you see it as a competition. You might also choose to believe that there is enough for everyone, and that each role is important in its own way. It's all in how you think about it.

PISCES (Feb. 19-March 20). A chore is a chore only when done with a heavy heart. You know this, which is why you approach your responsibilities with a smile. Right now it's for "them," but soon you'll be doing exactly what you want to be doing.

TODAY'S BIRTHDAY (Nov. 24). This will be one of your most enterprising years. Your ambition moves you to create alliances and perhaps even form a company. An occurrence in your personal life feels magical, and yet it is the result of years of working on yourself. Financial uplift comes in the form of a new assignment or investor in March. Virgo and Gemini people adore you. Your lucky numbers are: 8, 10, 35, 21 and 17.

HOW TO GET THROUGH THE HOLIDAYS WITH GRACE: For Taurus, the holidays will be more fun when Taurus is less picky. Taurus is an expert connoisseur with fine taste and an eye for quality. Taurus applies these talents to many aspects of the holidays, from choosing the dishes that make up a wonderful menu, to finding decor to create a desired atmosphere, to putting together the perfect gifts for loved ones. Taurus can use these talents to navigate through the many choices available and cater the world to his or her liking. But where Taurus gets in trouble is when the bull thinks that everyone else will automatically have the same taste and sensibility. This thinking will lead Taurus to disappointment. When Taurus recognizes that everyone is different and each has his or her own ideas about what is suitable, appropriate and beautiful, then Taurus will avoid the holiday letdown. Focusing on what really matters — a heartfelt, shared experience — will help Taurus release the need to control how others celebrate. In short, Taurus people who are easygoing and accepting of different tastes and styles will have a wonderful time and create a wonderful time for others.

CELEBRITY PROFILES: New mother Katherine Heigl is strongly Sagittarian, with four luminaries in this worldly sign. Sagittarius people are known for their high energy, love of travel, adventurous nature and cultural sophistication. This new mom is likely to share her fun-loving approach to life with her daughter. Her natal Jupiter in Leo suggests that caring for children will bring Heigl astounding good fortune.

CAPRICORN (Dec. 22-Jan. 19). You've been chosen by the cosmos to be the center of attention in your world, and it will feel right to have all eyes on you.

Glad I heard about this - I'll make sure to get all gussied up now that I know all eyes will be on me. Of course they will, they will be looking at me wondering when they get to eat! LOL

OCD Step DIL is not coming to my house this year. Just step-son and the 3 boys. Trouble in paradise.....

I have been without a stove since I think a year and a half. I know all you Iron Chefs out there would still be in throes of withdrawal by now--well, no, I guess you all would have replaced yours within the day, lol!!!

The kids' niece who was cleaning the house in lieu of rent and DS were cleaning, I guess the oven, and it caught on fire. Never did find out HOW they accomplished that, and am probably better off not asking!!! And, the oven just locked right up (I think that is a safety feature?) and when they couldn't get it to open, the girl's bf got his tire iron and attempted to hack it open. :D Ah, it was @ least 15 years old, and you know, if I used it with any amount of regularity, I might have even gotten upset!!! lol

Anyway, SO brought me an electric stove. His boss is renovating and this is a nice clean stove. Don't have a clue how old it might be--it's kind of a creamish color which is pretty much the color of the fridge I bought about 15 years ago, and the front of the non-working dishwasher that came w/the house. He brought it on Sunday, and yesterday called to see if it worked. I said, well, I didn't use the other stove, what in the world made him think I would be using this one? It's the kids who were yammering about missing the stove, and I guess SO thinks no kitchen is complete without one.

I have missed POPPED popcorn. That airblow stuff just doesn't cut it!!! So, will try to find where my popcorn popper went and try the stove top out popping corn. If anyone threw my popper out, heads will roll for sure!!!! It kind of looks like a colander (yes, non-cook that I am, I DO know what a colander looks like and is used for) without the holes. It's REALLY old, but after trying all the electric gadgets, none of them were worth the cost of the boxes they came in. Many years ago, I threw out my popper, when I was going to go modern. I don't know how many years it took for me to find someone who sold my stove top one. They probably haven't made them for years, now.

I cannot tell you how glad I am I do NOT live under SF city government. They are nuts beyond words! I live just across the bay. But since it is The City, we get lots of Pretty Boy Gavin...and yeah, he and Kimberly got very divorced a while ago. This is the new wife (arm decoration for the governor's run?). He has been acting so weird since he dropped out for governor! Its like he is angry at both the media and the public for not supporting him and he is in King Snit.

Its just so funny that Sanford is nationally notorious for every political disappearance...what a tool!

imo, moo.

That Alex is sure some piece of work! :(

You know, I really liked Dr Phil in the beginning. Then, his ego and his head kind of expanded. When it got to be all about him, as opposed to about helping people, I quit. I know he does good things w/his money, but making sure the whole world knows about it kind of takes it from what the money does, to "See, what a good boy am I!!!!"

Then, he got into the reality thing, with the family w/the pregnant teenager, and different groups of people in that house. Couldn't stomach that kind of thing, so I just quit watching altogether.

Aww, aww, she doesn't want to come to see you? Hmmm, that's what you get for bending over backwards for her baloney. You should have told her how you really feel.. lol! I always say people don't communicate verbally, rather telepathically. We always know how someone feels, no matter what the hell they are saying. ;) She knows you'd rather get a root canal, and go hunting for rattle snakes than spend a few days with her.

I'm wide awake at 2am  I've been working hard in this old barn for 4 straight days. I got the upstairs organized, dusted, rearranged and downstairs is perfect. I've moved paintings to different walls, carried furniture from room to room and vacuumed and washed floors, hung drapes, scrubbed down bathrooms and every square inch of this house is immaculate, including windows. :)

At around 3pm today I went upstairs to admire the makeshift den in a room where ceilings are slanted in several directions with an alcove in one corner and it is my favorite,, most charming room in the house. Along with a TV, I put 3 old fashioned living room chairs and a couch, a few end tables and lamps, and an old trunk for a coffee table. I looked at the couch and decided to put a hand made quilt on it and a few pillows. Then I put a knitted colorful throw on it, then I fell on it and didn't wake up until midnight. :(

Poppa made his own supper. :punch:

I don't make stuffing. Captain poppa makes it every year and he won't let me interfere. He's a stuffing cop. ;) He makes it with cornbread and sausage. This year I'm stuffing the artichokes though. I won that battle. I like Thanksgiving.
Tomorrow we're going to Lil Italy for the provolone and other trimmings. It's very festive there, crowded and noisy, but I love to go there the day before a holiday and get some good cappuccino and watch the people/nuts!

I have to decide what kind of ravioli I want to serve. I was thinking of making them myself but it's so tedious. I'm cheating this time. I remember my mother making them. They were filled with ricotta and other cheeses. She also made the ricotta and meat ravioli. Now days they stuff them with many different things, like eggplant, gorgonzola, lobster, and I even saw pumpkin ravioli once. There is so much to do tomorrow..I'd better go to sleep now... but I love it all!

Goodnight:seeya:

He claims he's continuing with them now because of the little ones, but I think he just doesn't want to say he failed.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING to all my U.S. buds here. Enjoy your day with Family :rose: I'll be holed up in a hotel in Michigan with my gal pals watching the marathon of House on USA channel. It's our annual shop til ya drop weekend. We dont always do black friday weekend but this year decided to give it a go. Since all eateries in Michigan close for T.G. we will fill up on the Canadian side and take some sammies to munch on. We are not those peeps out shopping at 4 a.m. Plan to start at Kohl's by 7 a.m. Following weekend Mr. Beemer and I are heading with our best friends up to Frankenmuth Michigan. Nice little get away. Very Christmasy and great food. Hope to tuck in a sleigh ride and I wanna do some horse back riding. So i actually will wish for snow that weekend. We are having the same weather Nawny  Your house sounds lovely. Makes ya feel good when everything is so freshly done. Put your feet up you deserve it

What I don't understand is, why would she be without her kids on Thanksgiving?

I don't know what the deal is with her and step son. She's passive-aggressive so maybe she's sending some sort of message that I'm not getting. Whatever. I have no idea what her plans are, and yes, I'm surprised she won't be with her kids. Her family is about 6 hours from where they live so I don't think she's going there because she doesn't like to drive that long by herself.

I will add - all plans made by them are subject to change at a moments notice. She could show up at my house still. That's a scary thought.

Well, after my day today I will be going home for Thanksgiving. One of the things I am thanful for this year is my friends here at the boards.

You have a wonderful Thanksgiving and enjoy your time away from work and back with your family!

Beemer - Enjoy your time with your friends. Black Friday DD and I go with friends to a big flea market. It's a tradition.

Actually I heard from a little birdy that he is mellowing this year. He signed a new long-term contract, and said a lot of the reason he decided to continue on because he wanted his staff to continue to have work. So everyone in the office was quite grateful to him. They are happy...so consider giving him another chance!

Our landscaper works alone and it took him 4 days to clean up the leaves here. He finished yesterday. When I went out on the porch to shake the dust mop, I saw him in the wind and rain finishing up the bagging. I called out to him, he looked up and yelled, "This is like a horror movie!!!!"

Poor Bruno. :(

Yeah, but...it sounds like Bruno is kind of funny!

Actually I heard from a little birdy that he is mellowing this year. He signed a new long-term contract, and said a lot of the reason he decided to continue on because he wanted his staff to continue to have work. So everyone in the office was quite grateful to him. They are happy...so consider giving him another chance!

He sure deserves a gold star if that is the reason!

He can live on his savings and book income for another 500 years, but his staff can't!

Okay, as someone who has been quite skeptical of "global warming" (to borrow a deaconism, I think it is "el toro doo-doo") I just HAVE to throw out a "See?!" to the world. Have you been following the hacked e-mails from all the global warming "experts" where they plotted to alter the data and cover up the fact that instead of RISING, temperatures have been FALLING??? http://www.ottawacitizen.com/technology/skeptics+vindicated/2262685/story.html

So much for the purity of science when there are vast buckets of money involved! So this Thanksgiving, fire up all the lights in the house, burn some real wood in the fireplace, and make a big carbon footprint on the planet. A tree that needs some CO2 will thank you (they don't call it a "greenhouse gas" for nothing, lol!)

HAVE A WONDERFUL AND GUILT-FREE THANKSGIVING!

He was my favorite when I was a kid. I used to babysit to earn money so I could buy Tiger Beat magazine that was loaded with pictures of him. He was certainly tame compared to teen idols of today.

Just out of curiosity...how do giant icebergs created by an extended cold snap point to global warming?

eeeek!

That sounded snarky when I reread it: I'm sorry, Sara! I was aiming that at the guy in the article.

Global warming irks me for two reasons: 1) based on dealing with natural climatological variations over several millenia, I think anything that is happening (or had happened in the past, since the global temp has been dropping for a decade) is both minor and not caused by humans and 2) it is distracting people who care from stuff that is real and needs to be fixed, like the plastic blob island in the Pacific, and the disappearing frogs and bees, and the Amazon rainforest...just everything that matters for the planet and our quality of life...

Some of the things that "slow global warming" are really good, so I don't mind and support them. I like clean air and water and use sustainable materials when possible, try not to not waste energy, etc. But when heinous congress talks about tripling my power bills...uh-huh. And when proof surfaces that fraudulent means are being used to push this? I don't think the site will let me type the words that come to mind. And people who believe in warming should be just as irked, because it totally undermines their position...how can we know what's true if the data is being fudged ?

I'm up at at um, getting ready for 21 guests and wish you all a lovely Thanksgiving. Lots of hugs and great food, football and great pumpkin pie.

Yesterday poppa made his yearly trip to the farm, bought a 25 lb turkey and (I think the turkey drove him home) made his cornbread and sausage stuffing.

We are terrible together in the same kitchen. He put the turkey in the oven around 1am, which I thought was too early.

Nawny and Poppa arguing:

Poppa, it's too early the turkey is going to be dry by the time we eat.
No, it will be perfect
No it won't you need to wait till 3am to put it in, or it will be over cooked. It takes 15 minutes per pound to be cooked perfectly.
THat's BS, it needs to cook for 8 hours, it's 25 pounds here!
No it doesn't!
Yes!
No!
Yes it does!
You win, but if it's dry, you're it.
Okay why are you putting foil on it wrapped so tightly?
Because the steam cooks the turkey and keeps it moist.
Nuh uh, you're supposed to make a foil tent! That's going to pull the skin off!
You wanna cook it?
No, I have enough to do, but that's just wrong.
Well before you take the turkey out, just take the foil off and let it get brown.
Where do you get these ideas poppa? don't wrap it up so tightly!
Just go to bed, I'll do this, OK?
Sicilians don't know how to cook, I tell ya!
Neapolitans cook better?
Yeah they do!
Aye who told you that?

I can't wait to see how the turkey comes out. He does the same thing every year, it should be just fine. lol!:beer::beer::beer::beer::hat:

Hugs to all! Happy Thanksgiving!

Hope the turkey turns out perfect even tho it was cooked all wrong!!!!:D

Set my alarm for 7:30 so I could hopefully be up and out of here by 9ish. Now, I don't dare turn off my regular 5:30am alarm, I'm sure I could learn how to reset it, but I'm more afraid I would forget to turn it back on. I usually just turn it off when it buzzes, then sleep til the next alarm goes off. Tho't that was what I did this am, then started doing the snooze thing with the 7:30 alarm. Then, I panicked, cuz I KNEW I had reset snooze waaayyy too many times. I looked @ the time, tho't it said 8:30. Whoa!!! It sure was darn dark out for 8:30. When I squinted a little harder, it was only 6:30, had been snoozing on the 5:30 alarm all along!!! So, gladly went back to sleep for another hour!!!!;)

Bought some Schwan's pumpkin pies to take. Well, darn, those suckers have to be BAKED!!! So, tho't I'd maybe try out the oven on the stove I just got. But, when we went to Dillons for the relish stuff (even my family prefers I bring something safe, like relishes that don't have to be cooked) I picked up a pumpkin pie there, just in case the oven doesn't work. Then, when it came time to bake, I figured--now, that other pie would just go to waste, so I will just take it to the dinner!!!

Got a really big relish dish @ Dillon's. A goodly amount of green trees and white trees, with some carrots and celery and a few tomatoes, Ranch Dip. Most of those trays had FAT FREE dip--can you imagine that? Got another flavored Ranch Dip, some black and green olives and a couple of versions of pickles, and I'm all set!!! (My family also thinks it is a good thing to have already cut up stuff--they aren't sure I am safe @ all w/an object sharp enough to cut up veggies!!!

So, we're off to my baby sister's house. Mom I am sure will come, not sure how Daddy will be feeling, and if he comes, it will probably only be for a short time, big crowds of noisy people kind of bother him. (He should have tho't of that when he had 7 kids, lol!!!) I think all of us kids will be there. 2 of my sisters also work in health care, and usually one or two of us are missing because of having to work. Brother, if he knows what is good for him, will show up, however briefly. Long enough to get a pic of all of us. We did get a nice pic of Mom and us girls when Daddy had surgery. I think someone was going to photoshop Daddy and Brother into that pic!!

Hope everyone has a nice day, enjoy the company, enjoy the turkey!!! And, for those who venture out on Black Friday--STAY SAFE!!!! LOL. Me, I'm going to be safely tucked away @ work!!!

Aww, must be nice. Some of us on this side of the pond are having the usual Thursday - taking care of my kids, homeschooling and cleaning house. The only thing that is different is, of course, the TV is clearly geared towards an American holiday so the programming is different. Anyhow, I must put a plug in for the Turkey roll, as apposed to the Turkey bird. You get all of the good meat without the prep and clean up hassles. More expensive but way less work. I did one last Christmas and it was nice for a change.

Sounds good-I have never had a turkey roll. We are having prime rib on the barby for xmas this year. My kids dont eat turkey and one doesn't eat meat at all. So 2 ate the ham. Hubby and i went for the turkey. So we were out voted at our thanksgiving so prime rib it shall be. Yeah i am looking forward to not having all that mess. Yep i am just sitting here awaiting my friend to finish work and off we go. Meeting the rest of the gals tomorrow. They are going to do some early shopping. My friend and i have been really tired out from work so no...... way are we going to be at any store at 5 a.m. 7ish works for us.

I was doing the swine flu marathon Tuesday, trying to find second doses for my kids. They only had one for the baby, not the 4 year old :( I tried several facilities, but nada! I was pizzed: what is the point of giving half the dose? It just wastes the dose that could have saved someone who only needed one shot, right? The injection nurse went off about how badly the govt. is handling this situation. The clinic doesn't know from one day to the next whether doses will be released to them or not. And they can have it in the fridge, but cannot use it until they get the call. They have to sit on it. She hinted to me they had a flumist dose for my son but could not use it. BS!

Well, my ordeal is done. The hubby's bf made a call saying he'd be here 30 minutes before dinner with several friends, they'd be staying the night, and needed a ride to the airport for a 6 am flight. Hubby freaked. It was a crank call. So appetizers went out at 12, dinner was at 1, dessert was at 2. Crazy, but my mom is afraid to drive at night. The gouda-stuffed panceta-wrapped chicken was a massive hit. Ohhh, it was so good! Why do we serve turkey again? I think I need to get away from that...

oooooh! and the outrage! I reached for the rum for the cranberry sauce, and it was nearly empty! I snarked at my hubby about drinking too much, and he was all, it wasn't me! Turns out my mom has been having a little nip when she comes over every week without my knowing. She babbled something about heart palpitations and needing it since we didn't have any wine. No kidding! What do I have to do, hide the booze?! It sucks. I drink very little, so when I want my fruity rum drink, there had BETTER be whaler's dark rum sitting there! Rum pirate! aaaargh! :flamemad:

Awwww, that's just wrong! But thanks for the tip on adding rum to the cranberry sauce.. sounds goooood! Inevah hoid ofit!

We had a good day. Everyone was happy and there were lots of hugs and prayers for those who have no families, no turkey and no hope. I thought about them all..I don't know why God chose to bless me so much. If I listed the things I'm grteful for, I'd write a post a mile long. :)

Danny was here in spirit and knocked out several light bulbs while we ate dinner. He does that often, and NEW ones too! :) Also one light bulb on the front porch went out when we were sitting outside watching the tree go up on the little town down the street.. and listening to Christmas music. I danced with the weebles and it was so much fun. Santa showed up on the fire truck! They were all excited and I love the sound of their voices. :)

We also had a very nice time---@ least I did, and everyone else seemed to.

When we go to little sis's, her husband's family is there, also. Her MIL died a few years ago, and she is missed. My folks were there from about 11:30 to 5:30. Daddy usually takes about 3 naps by then, but didn't close an eye, even when he was sitting in a nice, comfy recliner.

Someone filled him a plate, but when it was time for seconds, he, by gollies, was going to do it himself!!!! OK by me. He glared @ me when I got up, but heck, I was needing seconds myself!!!! Mom did let up a little on her being right there to "help" him walk, etc. Maybe because w/5 daughters there, she tho't someone was alway watching him--and that was true!!!

Brother didn't come over. He isn't much of a socializer @ all. And, he DID go to the dinner @ the home Saturday. There's a suspicion he might not be taking his meds properly right now, and if that's true, he made a wise decision to not be around a lot of people. Oldest sis worked the night before, and didn't get home until 10am, and had to go back to work last night. So, of course she did not come. She has been burning the candles @ both ends, and really needs to be watching her own health.

A cousin who moved back "home" who we really haven't known much came. I called Tues to let him know where we would be. He said he had been invited to a "church lady's" family dinner--but he sure would rather be with us!!! Later in the afternoon, Daddy's 91 y/o sister came by. Her DIL, great granddaughter and great-great granddaughter brought her. She's funny, but just as dog-gone stubborn as Daddy!!!!

I took the folks back to the home. We hadn't tho't about supper. Probably wouldn't have mattered, cuz Daddy saw where a lot of folks were leaving, he had his walker, his coat, and he was ready to leave!!!! I left to get them some food, as they had missed the supper @ the home. He had immediately gotten into his pj's and was asleep. Not surprising, considering all the sleep he had missed!!! Mom ate the cold stuff we brought (salad type things) and the nurses put the turkey, etc in the fridge in case Daddy woke up and got hungry.

Little sis had been up til 2am and went to take a "10 min nap." A couple of hours later, when she woke up, most people left had been thru the food line again, and her sil's and sisters had cleaned up her kitchen!!! I visited w/her and sis #5 for an hour or so, waiting for DD to finish playing a game. Then DD and I went to sis #4 to get some stuff, and we were there another hour or so!!!! I got home about 11pm. I was supposed to get up about 5:30--about 5, got a call to say I am just on call today, so went back to sleep. Poor DD works @ JCPenney, and just left for work. @ least she didn't have to be there @ 4am when the store opened!!! :chicken:

I am kicking back, looking @ the pumpkin pie I brought home, and hoping that I don't get called in!!!!

Awww Amy, there is something so warm and charming about you and yours. :) Your Thanksgiving sounded like a wonderful time. You seem to accept all that's happening in the autumn of your mom and dad's life. I also come from a big family.(7 kids) I don't know if we're charming, perhaps state of the arts dysfunctional.. lol. .But we love each other. Sometimes my house seems like a cut out of "Everybody Loves Raymond", but all hatchets get buried on Holidays and we are thankful for the past and hopeful for the future. :) While we're at it, we eat!!!! And some wash down their meds with a toast of good cheer! Gotta luv um!

OMGosh, that was hilarious and heart-warming all at the same time. Our families can be quite comical at times. Life is funnier than fiction imo. People, naturally, are hilarious without even trying to be. I can remember my own mother getting the giggles when my elderly Grandma was being helped into her shoes and then when two uncles flanked her on each side as they walked her out of the kitchen, the dog darting through everyone's legs, someone farts, grandma then gets laughing so hard they have to sit her back down and dribbles in her underpants.

Funny, yes, but precious memories all the same.

Not to say there isn't any dysfunction in our family--I think we probably have as much as any other "normal" family. But, the holidays are NOT for fighting in our family. From the time I can remember, all differences were put aside for the family celebration. Anyone had a squabble going on, it was not put out for the family @ this time. You be civil, you might just be sure to avoid coming across someone you aren't exactly having warm fuzzies with. Or, there is always the option of needing to go to the store for something you just can't live without, lol!!!!

Such as, there are some pretty hard feelings about one of the sisters, and her preoccupation of always steering things to her advantage--with no work or money on HER part, but she ends up w/the big banana. Don't think most could have looked and figured it out (that she's not on some of ours "like" list.) Little sis is the peace maker, and looks for the best in everyone. I think, I'm never going to speak to the church lady (the manipulator) ever again, but I just can't quite bring myself to not, if she is right there. We have to be right there, to keep an ear out for whatever tripe she is trying to put in Mom and Daddy's mind. Sis #4 was very adept @ not being anywhere near her!!!!

I've lived that scenario Amy.. yep, yep, yep... But since we lost that one troubled one this year, we've regrouped and don't' sweat the small stuff anymore. 7 siblings can figure out what matters and there is only enough time to be concerned about what matters. I'm the youngest of the girls and the peace maker in my tribe. Not to say that there are not times when I don't want to smack um all in the head.. ;)

Oh, yes!!!! I think there are times when little sis is thinking--she's the only one with a lick of sense, and she'd like to knock some into us older ones' heads!!! (and sometimes, she is right on!!!!)

She says, well, I'm just the baby, so I don't think you all are going to listen to me!!!! We do try to, sometimes. She's smart, she's organized, and she's not just a little baby anymore, lol.

There are us 4 older girls (the church lady/manipulator is in this group) and there are the 3 younger kids. Kind of two different generations, and they do look @ things differently than us older kids do, that's for sure.

LOL! I understand:) So many people have no family. Our mothers had the courage to raise so many children, which is the gift to us because now we have the tribal mentality, which works well, especially on holidays. lol! We fight, we kiss and make up, we fight again, we kiss and make up again.. it's a perfect rotation!

Many of the baby boomers, I've noticed have adult children all over the map. Seems tradition has been all but banished. I miss tradition. Since my mother and 4 siblings moved to Florida holidays are not the same here in NE, but I do my best to keep it rocking with the other half of my family and the family I made. I miss my mother mostly on holidays. She knew how to do it!
RIP Ma. :rose: No one cooks like you did!

Well I had an aunt that would be a close ringer for Imogene, but as for Grandma, try an older Shelley Winters, that would be more like it.

Speaking of funny families - oh, by the way, I have to say we love to watch America's Funniest Videos on Sunday nights because people are so hilarious. Why a guy getting kicked in the nuts or people falling of pets doing weird things is always funny - or passing gas never stops being funny. Okay, I will get back to my story...

Last weekend we had a family wedding. On my husband's side of the family. DH is one of 8 kids. The parents are divorced. His dad has remarried and has a grown son from that second marriage as well. His dad was able to come for the wedding but his wife and other son had to stay back home so he made the trip himself. Well, by the time I got there I walk into the livingroom and the whole gang is there. DH's parents are both there, and sitting beside each other on the couch, as if time had never parted them. Shaun's siblings didn't seem to really notice, but us outlaws sitting at the kitchen table had a few chuckles. We were also waiting for the 8th and final sibling to make her grand entrance. She is the family wildcard and nutcase. She arrived in a cab and was so very intoxicated that her legs wouldn't step up high enough to walk into the house so one of the brothers had her under the arms from behind and was trying to lift her in . She catches her toe on the door way and they both come toppling into the living room. So now everyone is trying to act normal like nothing weird is happening. We feed nutty sis some crackers and cheese and water to get her half ways presentable. No sooner did she regain her composure we were shuffling them all to pose for a picture because there hasn't been a pic of all 8 kids together for 9 years. So the lovely pic is taken. Nutty sis on the end looking way too happy, mom and dad in the middle acting like they have been together for the last 25 years and I am thinking I will have to remove this family photo from the wall any time dad's new wife comes for a visit. Love DH's family.

Oh dear-i symphathize Snoop :rose: I lucked out in the MIL dept. it was the latter years with my Mom that made me crazy. The last couple with her were fab. I had to have a heart to heart with her cuz it was that bad. She screamed at me and threw something at me and basically disowned me. Told me i was out of the will. I told her $ never mattered i just wanted our relationship to change and for us to move forward it would be on my terms. So she didn't speak to me for awhile and i was good with that cuz it was daily harrassment with me ending up in tears from phone calls. She always luved my hubby and treated him better than me. One day outta the blue she picked up the phone and we were good from there. I'm grateful for that but i couldn't deal with her anger she had then. For my Mom to even behave like that was huge so it was all huge and hard. I'm glad for the final years and that they were the best :rose:

Well I survived our Black Friday shopping 4 day marathon  Deals were beyond fab. Great time-only one exciting moment if ya can call it that. We were in Meyer's and one of my gal pals has been in law and security for years. Has an eye for people in any given sit. Anyhoo we are in the grocery/booze area and gal pal kinda wanders off and we observe her following a woman on a Meyer's shopping scooter who looks bout mid 60's. Gal pal See's her grab a litre of vodka and start swilling it down like water on a hot summers day. She continues to follow her and the woman is putting the bottle at her feet in between swills. About 20 min. later the woman is crashing into things and the bottle is empty. So we alert the staff and they get security. As we were checking out the police had arrived and they were asking her to get off the motorized scooter-she kept refusing and screaming at them. We felt bad-just a bit but she woulda killed somebody if she got in a car. Had she been walking she may have killed herself in the gridlock parking lot. So we left hoping she might get the help she needs :rose:

Well, back in nc after Thanksgiving. Ate too much but had a great time. Got the batteries in the smoke alarms changed for the year. Washed about 10 pounds of mud off of my company truck and got it cleaned back up. Of course, it is suppose to rain two days next week so that was a waste. Sort of. My son played in another golf tournament last week and his team finished 2nd. Other than that, not much going on. Getting ready for Christmas.

My 32nd anniversary comes up the 16th of December so I have to go shopping sometime for that. At least I don't forget......

Oh good stuff deacon. Your son did well-kudo's to him. Happy Anniversary to both of you's-in case i forget on the 16th :rose: hey did ya read about Tiger or hear? well it's too bad the press will not let this be a private family issue

Being a Canadian I am watching with great interest in the big game today. Born in Saskatchewan, our little Roughriders team has made it to the final and are winning as of half-time. Yeehaaawww!!

Who are they playing? I've heard of the Roughriders before. Even watched them when they were on tv down here.

They are playing the Montreal Allouettes. They are playing the game here in Calgary and basically it is a "home" game for Saskatchewan because it is a road trip for Rider fans. Alot of former Saskies live in Calgary so it is 95% green at the game. I am watching in the comfort of my home, dining on pot roast and mashed potatoes but it is sooooo exciting!!!!

Good luck. I just finished watching my team here in the states. I live on the east coast and follow the Chargers. There is a running back that plays for them that played at the small college my son went to. All 5'9" 245 lbs. of him. They won today over Kansas City. 43 to 14.

:seeya: Hi Beem. I've been up since 6am, just saw this! :) Well its back to normal today and I have a lot to do. Thanksgiving was good, yesterday was good as it was the weeble twins birthday. My 2 little Sagittarius rocked the world. They were born preemies, but they made it through and turned 7 years old yesterday. It was supposed to be a small party, Ha! No party in this tribe is small! It was noisy and we never got to heal from Thanksgiving. Ouch!
I need my frontal lobes rearranged.

My washing machine is finally upstairs next to the dryer and now I have to go to the basement and see what was growing under it. (I hate that basement!)
Soon the contractor will be back to tear my kitchen apart, so I have to start taking things down there to get them out of the way. After Christmas I will be complaining my head off. I'm so glad I have a place to vent. LOL!

Glad you had fun with the girls. Not to worry about mother issues even for a short time. It's a requirement to be evolved on earth. I tell ya! ;)

Yeah no more dungeon! This old house has 5 cement rooms in the cellar and it's fugly down there. ;) I even painted the floors and put a rug down there in the laundry room, but its still awful.

We traditionally have Christmas Eve here and do up the fish. But this year we are all going to crash my brother's house party. They have open house each year (forever) and we've never visited there on that night. He came to see us on Thanksgiving and I suggested we do something different. I'll bring the fish to his house as there are so many of us going, so that should be fun.

I'm thinking we're getting older and we are the only two here (the rest escaped to Florida) so we should be enjoying each other more. He's a sweet man. Poppa loved the idea too. He has no brothers and he loves mine. So we shall see how that works.. if it's good, we'll make a new tradition.

My brother and his family live in a tenement in the city (I love the city) and the lower apartment is vacant, so they use both levels to entertain on Christmas Eve. Should be fun.

It's freezing here too this morning.. Oooch!

Oh wow Sherlock i just heard bout the Grey Cup. Lordy that coach must feel terrible!!!! That will go down in history. My men watch and i suppose i should as we know the Fantuz family-Andy plays for Sask.

Let me describe the last 10 seconds of this game....

(We led the game for 59 minutes, 58 seconds)

We are ahead by 2 points. The Allouettes get in range for a kick which would give them 3 points - hence we have lost the game.

They kick the ball - and MISS the goal - now WE have won the game....

Mass confusion, flags are down...what happened???? We had 13 men on the field. - too many men. We get a penalty and the Allouettes get to rekick the ball...

They get the kick and we loose!!! So in 10 seconds we win, loose, win and loose. Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!!

We are stunned to say the least. I am not surprised you have heard about it since even the US would find this heartbreaking CFL game worth mentioning.

A number of years ago the Roughriders kicker made a crucial mistake and lost the game for them. Some over-zealous fans in Regina new where he lived and put feces on his drive way. Hope that doesn't happen again.

Anyhow, I am sort of sick today - coughing, head cold, tired - but I have to get up and do something constructive. I shall see you all later.

BTW - I noticed no one uses any pics in their avatars. I was contemplating uploading one but since no one else has I don't think I will.

I hope everyone had a fabulous Thanksgiving. I am finally 100%!

I went down to Boynton Beach for my brother's birthday and spent the night at a hotel in Palm Beach Gardens on PGA Blvd. Let me tell you folks, there's no recession going on there! For blocks, all the trees are glittering with white twinkle lights. I mean thousands of lights on each tree. Every branch is covered in white lights. It was beautiful and it's like that all the time, not just for holidays. Went to the new mall on PGA and the stores were Gucci, Chanel, Louis Vitton. Needless to say, I just window shopped. Santa sat in the most beautiful area I have ever seen. Not just a chair with elves, no this was like a magnificent Russian style church "bird cage" made out of gold with these giant elegant ornaments surrounding the "cage". It wasn't an actual bird cage but for lack of a better word for description, that's what I'll call it.

There were so many diamonds flashing around, I almost had snow blindness. But I was very happy to return to my own little house full of happy little faces who missed me. Especially since I heard meowing as I walked up the driveway and realized that someone had been left in the yard. Poor Cookie spent two days out of the house. I'll be lucky if I have any lizards or frogs left. She has only one eye but catches lizards better than any other cat I've ever seen.

Ah Sherlock, it's so great that you can laugh out those things. Too many people get all bent out of shape. You just have to roll with it and laugh.:D
