"And what do u use the chair for Sam hehehe."

Not QUITE what YOU think...I SIT ON MINE...LOL!

You won't believe it, but my Lhasa-poo LOVES to lay on the knee-shelf thingy while I sit on the seat...yeah she's spoiled.

And the Beagle-boy walks by and nudges her butt of and keeps right on walking...

But seriously-when my dogs aren't in the way, it's THE most comfortable computer/desk chair I've even owned.

I got mine 2nd hand at a yard sale about 4 years ago-for $5. The original owner didn't like the fabric-she wanted LEATHER, so hubby bought her a new one.

Her loss way MY GAIN!!!

One of these day's I have to replace the foam and recover it, but I'll NEVER get rid of it!!!

"Put me on a commercial jet any day. I figure if it's my time it's my time. We fly several times a year and sometimes our agent wants to hook us up on those commuter planes to Toronto-no thank you they scare me to death."

When I was a teenager...back in the 1970's-NOT the 1670's...my grandfather got his pilot's license for a second time. The first time, he got it during WW2, when my mom was a bay.

I used to go up with him at the Buffalo Air Park in the bitty little Cessnas and Piper Cubs. DAMN-I loved it!!! I really miss those days...

Anywho-he used to make me do EVERYTHING. Including reading all his ground-school books-and then he'd quiz me.

I had to call for the weather report at NOAA, help him write up the flight plan, do the pre-flight check with him doing it right behind me for the record, and then we'd get in and he'd take off. He always made the landings, too.

Once we were in the air, he'd have me take over the yolk and peddles.

One time, out of the blue, he asked me how much I trusted him. I guess I told him that since he helped to raise me, I trusted him with my life! He was always my BEST BUDDY!

Next, he asked me what I'd do if he ever got sick while we were flying.

I made the mistake of telling him I'd get on the radio and call in a May-Day.

He told me to stay calm and follow his instructions.

He put the damned plane into a STALL, and talked me through each step to get it powered up again.

I think that was the LONGEST 2 minutes of my life...I wanted to CHOKE HIM!!!

Everything was fine, but it still scared the crap out of me.

It's amazing that I still love to fly after that, but by him doing CRAZY CRAP like that, he taught me not to panic in emergencies.

GOD-I miss you, Grandpa!!!

"That generation was the BEST! Not s dramatic, but my Grandpa decided I needed to learn to drive at 12 in case there was ever an emergency. He ran rum out of Canada into Chicago when he was a kid, so he figured you never knew when you would need that skill. Of course, my mother did not need to know. She thought we were going for donuts every day. Nope, I was driving all over Marin County.

That WWII generation just took matters in their own hands and took care of business. I love that. I miss my Grandpa, too!!! What I wouldn't give for one more driving lesson."

My friend's dad taught me and her how to drive when we were in our early teens.

He was critically ill, and on the list for a kidney transplant, and he said we never knew when he would have to go to the hospital and might not be able to drive himself.

It was an experience...and my family never knew. They would have killed him. I wasn't even old enough for permit-probably 13 or 14-so I know what you mean!!!

But it was perfectly okay for Grandpa to let me take over the PLANE at 11...no ground-school, no formal flight school....NADA!!!

Yeah-REAL LEGAL!!!

LOL!!!

aargh. now its not out of my system again. now I know who the doctor is, so there is a target for my anger.

I have a friend who has had 14 miscarriages and no live children. She could give all her attention to a child. And yet these children will get 5 minutes of attention a day if they are lucky. Life can be so unjust.

With that much love, you friend needs to quit trying and adopt half a dozen or get into the foster program. Of course, everyone has to live their own life their own way, but I would fear for her health.

Just to kvetch and moan about my Friday the 13th:

My kidlet dumped beer on my computer. It was closed at the time, but there is definitely a stickyness to the keys and the reek of a good amber ale as it warms up. I just made an appointment at the Genius Bar, but if they take it away for cleaning, you may not hear from the lowly Javahog for a few days...I just know there will be a doc dump!

Actually, probably so. Early news on WFTV said this morning that we should find out this week all about the tests and findings on the evidence taken from the house and Suburban drive. The defense now has it.

I'm so exhausted and I feel badly because I'm so behind in my postings and pictures. Thank goodness I go to work tomorrow. I hope to have the time to download some pics.

I went to my nephews engagement party today. It was very nice. I laughed at this story - my niece has her first full time teaching position - a first grade class. For Valentine's Day, she had a little party in her class and her maternal grandparents attended. When the students saw the grandparents, one student raised his hand and asked "why are you still alive?" Then they asked Stan how old they were and being a good husband he said "I am 79 and she is 54." Another little boy said she looked a lot older than he did and Stan said to not say that too loudly.

Kids - ya gotta love em. :)

That's probably what happened to my dsl box, it was a Fri the 13th fluke!!! Got a new cord which DS was sure the problem was, put the new cord on and----nothing!! Unfortunately I had gone to town so late that I couldn't get a new box on Friday, and they were closed on Saturday!!! When I did go into town today, they reprogrammed my box, works like a charm now, and didn't costs me a thing!!! Except for the cord, but needed that anyway, as some animal seemed to have chewed into it.

I've been hearing on a "mommy board" that its called RSV, a particularly nasty respiratory infection. Its been putting babies in the hospital. Be careful out there, and go to your doctor if you need it!

My youngest had that when she was 6 weeks old - she was in the hospital for over a week and on breathing treatments for approximatly a year - in between my breast feeding schedule and giving breathing treatments I was a walking zombie. I'm sure glad those days are over. She's perfectly healthy now - they say it usually resolves itself with time. Anyhow, I'm feeling much better today. Thanks. :seeya:

Brain, every once in a while fish mysteriously disappear out of my ponds too. Don't know if I should blame raccoons or what. I was crushed last summer when I found the skeleton of Mr. Big on the deck, and don't know if he was scooped out of the pond, or if maybe he flipped out of the water and the ants ate everything but the bones. I'd had him for seven years and he was damned near big enough for us to eat.

I have a problem with heron landing at the koi pond for a snack. It's like they drop in for appetizers. I also have seen feral cats stop by for a drink and possible a fish. Wild turkeys come to drink but I don't think they would eat the fish.

Are turkey vultures and turkey buzzards the same animal? We have what we call turkey buzzards. They are quite large and eat dead animal carcass. In my area we have a tremendous amount of deer hit by cars. Last year I was driving to work and came upon a flock eating a dead deer in the middle of the road. They started to fly away, except one ate way too much and flew right into my windshield. It was so heavy it pushed the windshield in but did not shatter.
We also have wild turkeys that were re-introduced to NJ. Other than eating crops, they don't do much.

Brain, my ponds are relatively small and built up off the ground with waterfalls. One is about 800 gallons and the other about 1200. We do have cattle egrets in the area on the little lake at the bottom of our bluffs, but they never come up this far.

We've got lots of raccoons, wild turkeys, deer, and a ground hog WHO CAME OUT the day before Groundhog's Day (because he forgot last year was a leap year) and WHO DIDN'T see his shadow. Which is why I'm convinced we'll have an early spring.

LENEXA, KS - A child was back home safe on Thursday afternoon after a non-custodial parent abducted him.

Lenexa Police said Edrick Miller broke into his ex-girlfriend's apartment and took their seven-month-old child. The child was found safe four hours later just a couple of miles from where he was taken.

Police didn't issue an Amber Alert because they said they had no vehicle description and no information on where Miller might have been headed with the child.

Glad everything came out ok for the childs sake. Do you really think their relationship is over? People like this feed off each other - it's an addiction - a sick one at that.

Oh Mu, that is so frightening. Do we think the guy would even know how to care for a seven month old? What would he have done if he couldn't have handled the pressure? I pray the little one has no memory of this event and that any visitation is severly curtailed or cut off, at least for now.

He was a th a couple of times on NG. Or on NG @ least once, and another show another time. That I saw, anyway. He might have been on some shows when I wasn't watching. He wasn't so bad--more like he was prior to becoming SP's lawyer. Just facts about defense cases, no outlandish theories or defenses.

Gosh, maybe it was NG. For some reason, I was thinking it was Geraldo because he's usually more receptive to defense attorney types, and I was surprised that Geragos didn't have more to say.

Sometimes I wonder why I want to read about the tragedies or the crime investigations. Some ask me why, and I'm not sure how to answer. It has always been a thing with me. I'm not a crime victim (Thank God) but I've had tragedies in my life, as all of you probably have.
I don't think anyone is exempt from heartbreak.

And I believe nothing worth much, can be derived from a life of bliss. We grow, we learn to appreciate what we do have. In the link below I learned that we are stronger than we know and being human is pretty near divine.

It saddens me deeply when I witness the crimes against kids or each other. It amazes me that some people can kill others. I guess that's why I need to keep seeing it and reading about it.. I want to understand. I can't yet. I want justice for the victims as all of you do. I get angry and I get afraid.

I'm not so smart. I don't even add much to the answers here, but I care so I read yours. So much of your study about these crimes amazes me and I have to say, "WOW!" when I read your theories and common sense.

Sometimes I feel very sad and feel like I'm on the rim of believing the human condition is hopeless, but it doesn't last long because one of you will make me laugh. (I love to laugh)

When I saw this video this morning, I saw the other side of things, and I want to share it with you so you can get the odd joy out of it that I got.

I saw that. I remember the intervew with her parents. If the guy who did it, is the guy she was having an affair with, seven years is much toooo long to wait to arrest the SOB. That had to be hell on earth for her parents. She was so beautiful. :(

I remember this too.I dont think it is GC they are about to arrest.

Oh. I read the blurb fast. You're probably right. I thought they had the guy she dated. Who ever it was, had hurt two others in the same area. I have to learn to read slow. ;)

From what I understand he is in jail/prison now about those other two and maybe will be up for parole.UNLESS they arrest hin on Chandras' death, which I am hoping they have all the evidence they need.
of course, when it happened,GC and their affair, did, imo, make him look very
suspicious. How could it not?Dating a married man, then go missing.I was worried he may have had it done.He did lose his great career.Maybe he salvaged his marriage and family, huh?
But if its this pervert that also got the two others,(in the same park, iirc?)he needs to be FRIED,imo.
Im sure we'll be hearing some facts, maybe, tomorrow would be good.

The sauce for Spaghetti Carbonara is easy....

Fresh Garlic
Bacon or pancetta
Cream
Grated (Romano or parmesan cheese)
One egg

I don't measure (me bad) but I'll try to give you a general idea of how much ingredients to use.
(I use a frying pan)

Warm up your pan throw in some chopped bacon (5 or 6 strips) sautee for a coupla minutes until the bacon is cooked, not flabby.

Chop a few pieces of fresh garlic

Put garlic in and let it get soft.
Add a coupla cups of cream (heavy)
Add a tablespoon of grated cheese
Add one egg yolk
Keep stirring until it thickens
Salt and pepper to taste. (Not too much salt because cheese is salty.) Actually, so is bacon or pancetta.. so forget the salt or you won't get your rings off the next day.

Pour it over 1/2 lb of spaghetti and eat it. Get fat with me.
:)

Your cooking times are interesting, too. : sautee for a coupla minutes until the bacon is cooked, not flabby.

A cookbook from you would be a riot to read, I'm guessing. And, reading it would be about the best I could do, cuz a cook, I'm not!!!!;) OTOH, I wonder if I sauted myself, would I get beyond the "flabby" stage? lol. Wonder if suntanning would be the same as sauteeing?

If I were a cook and anyone around here would be interested in eating the pasta dishes, I'd cook your recipe.

I would be doing a lot of "Pootana" --quick meals is all I do. I know most of you will be shaking your heads and tssking--but any meal I do has to be quick. I'm one of those, if ya can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen--so I do!!!!

My garbage eater (DS) has moved out, so there isn't anyone to eat the leftovers for days when I DO "cook"--which usually means something in the crockpot. He liked my chili--which was different every time, and my roast. All I put in with the roast is the potatoes, don't like all the other "stuff."

They do like my version of tacos and burritoes, and used to like my pork chops, but since my menu was rather limited, they got pretty tired of eating that even once a week--heaven forbid I might try to serve it twice!!! lol

SO's version of cooking is to fry up some hamburger (or boil it up) and then start putting anything in the fridge and cabinet in there. And, of course, put a few jalepeno peppers in there, and then put a bottle of tobasco sauce on it (his plate) to eat!!!

The Nightstalker was worse-everyone was living in mortal terror. I will appreciate those guys who ran him down forever. He seemed to think he could hide out in the illegal community, but as soon as his picture was released, he was hunted down by a crowbar carrying mob and beaten until the police rescued him. Apparently HE was in mortal terror that day.

I bet if we had communities doing a little more pre-arrest beatdowns of child molestors and cannibalistic satanic serial killers, there might be a bit less of it. (and remember what happened to Larry Singleton? Vallejo drove him out of town!) We as a society need to say No More! If they get out, they should be ostracized and shunned, then the young pervs growing up will learn not to act on their dark inclinations. imo.

The courts and legal system need to keep up with all the studies that show that pediophiles do NOT change, no matter how much "therapy" they undergo--and while I have not looked up and read about sex offenders in general (rapists) I imagine most fit under the non-rehabitable category. Even the pediophiles say, the urge is still there, therapy did NOT take that away, and I'm not sure that I can always resist the urge. So, do NOT give them a couple of months or a couple of years incarceration, do NOT put them out on parole. Why should the whole of society have to monitor these POS's (because there aren't enough police officers, parole officers to do so, and those little bracelets can be manipulated.) They should be locked up FOREVER. Put them on Alcatraz and let them live w/their own kind.

Or, if they murder some child in the process--DP should be used. We should not have to worry about some CONVICTED, now released pediophile living in our town, our county. We shouldn't have to keep our children on house arrest essentially because some pervert lives in the area. Our kids should be able to play to their hearts content, inside or out. Instead, if mommy or daddy can't go out with them, they are stuck in the house. It should be the offender who is stuck in his cell.

Get fat with me.
:)

LMAO I'll sure give it a try!!!!!!!!

My carbonara is the lazy way:

Cook pasta.

Slightly scramble eggs in small bowl. Saute chopped bacon, jowl, pancetta or guanciale until crisp, remove from skillet and drain. Sweat sliced or minced garlic in bacon fat or olive oil. Add cooked pasta and toss. Add scrambled eggs and toss. If sauce is too tight (sticky) add pasta water. Add bacon, fresh grated parm, fresh parsely, ground pepper or pepper flakes, toss and serve.

I've always read that puttanesca was made by the putanas to lure men to spend their paychecks before they got home to their wives. It never occurred to me that putanas made the dish for their own husbands! :hat: I have a love affair with black olives. mmmm Capers, not so much.

There is a book as of late, called, "THE SHACK" This book is about a little girl who was kidnapped and killed. It is the best book ever written that brings understanding and so far, I think it will help those of us who can't wrap their heads around this kind of crime. It's fantastic reading. It can be researched on Amazon.

I needed it. :seeya:

I was given the book for my birthday. I have to admit it was not the kind of book I would have bought on my own. Anyway, I had to read it because the person who gave it to me was going to expect a conversation about it!

It really is a great story, very well written and nicely descriptive without over doing it. It does have a religious tone, in case anyone is offended. Deep book, illicites a lot of thought.

BTW Danagher - I am a Capricorn with a Brittany spaniel named Gus! Too funny when I read your weeble story. His official name is Gust of Wind but he's always been called Gus. He's one of three dogs ruling the house.

I love Capricorns and no one rules the house but them, and that's that!!! LOL!!!!!

The book, yes, it provokes deep thought.. It works for me. I like that sort of thing. I let go of dogma many years ago and I have to believe in something higher up. I enjoyed the way that writer used the symbols.

Give Gus a hug for us!

Too many years spent in Catholic school with the nuns left me a little jaded. The friend who gave me the book keeps trying to lure me back! I believe in something more, but shy away from formal religion.

Gus isn't well, so I'll hug him twice.

Your recipe sounds wonderful. The way I was taught to make it sounds pretty much like Alfredo with bacon. I'll give yours a go! Thank you. I'll get fat alone or with company. I'm so darn Ftired of diets. I was good today though. It's 3:50 and all I had to eat all day was tuna salad on wheat. Tonight, steak carrots and salad.. How boring is that? I have a few parties in March, April and May. I have to fit into something I own.

Do you think maybe a roomy jogging outfit would be okay to wear to my own birthday party? Never mind.

The cream does make it sound like Alfredo, which I rarely make. Not sure why, but maybe it's because if I'm going to eat cream, I like for it to be whipped! Your lunch and supper sound like the norm around here.

I guess we could all get matching mu mus with Crime Library logos on them. *sigh*

Whoa Jav! You must have been so frightened then. I remember the Boston Strangler, and I was dating then. It was very scary, made ya think you were next. I'm only 30 minutes from Boston. Polly's case is very disturbing! They are still letting perps out of jail, go figure. Recently we had one nearby and he wasn't registered for a year after he got out. Imagine this: They tell the perps to
GO REGISTER." Well, hello??? Some don't. That's my understanding.

We happen to have a connection to the state police (family) and I asked why that particular perp wasn't registered. They contacted him and he ran his arse down there and registered. Shortly there after, his picture was on the list they sent to all the mothers with small children. My 2 daughters got that letter because their little ones are in nursery school in the vicinity of his home. His crime was "Crimes Against Nature" (second offense.) Apparently he liked young girls and he liked to sodomize them.
He did 2 years and has 18 hanging over his head. He's got one more shot. I expect him to do it again.

Oh two more things: He had a pot farm under his deck and a little factory in his basement where he was bagging it and storing it. And, he got custody of his 7 year old son when he got out because the mother was unfit. I can't wrap my head around it. Sigh ~ ~ ~

Unbelievable, I know...

We live in the Bizarro world more often than not. It doesn't make sense that someone can molest two children and go to jail for just two years while someone who didn't clean his yard when told by the county, was sentenced to 18 months in jail. So basically, a child is worth less than a messy yard.

Marinara sauce technically means, seafood sauce, but the absence of meat is why it's called Marinara.

It's fast, easy and delicious. I call it "quick sauce" and its just as easy as opening up a store brand jar of (God forbid) sauce.

Take several garlic cloves or one onion or both.

Sautee that on medium high, in a small sauce pan or even a frying pan.

Add one can of crushed tomatoes. Preferably PASTENE, but Hunts will do or any brand. Try to find a brand with no spices added. I add only parsley, salt and pepper. No high voltage spices. Put your own grated cheese on it after it is served.

Cook for twenty minutes. That's it. Just like Italy!

There are hundreds of variations to pasta sauce. That is simple and very fresh. You can actually make that sauce with garden tomatoes. Just wash, chop them and add them, though they need to cook a lot longer. (an hour) Especially if you like chunky sauce... I saw a great Italian chef do this by flash frying his garlic and tomatoes for minutes, and it was luscious, but I cook it longer.

With this sauce you can make Puttanesca by adding chopped green and or black olives. The name "Puttanesca" is derived from the word "Pootana" The reason for this name is; it is a quick meal, and in Italy when a woman served this to her husband after he returned home from work, it implied that she wasn't home all day. Those Eyetalians were so awful!

This entree is often listed on the menu's of many Italian restaurants. LOL!!! I laugh every time I see it.

Oh my goodness, you brought back wonderful memories of Grandma from 45 years ago. We lived in a limestone building which had three floors. My grandparents owned the building and lived on the first floor. We lived on the second floor and my aunt and her family lived on the third floor. In the morning, I'd go to my grandma's and she would make me farina cereal. Then we'd cut the garlic and onion and saute it. She would have a pot of boiling water and dip tomatoes in the water. We'd peel the skin off and then she put the tomatos in this metal contraption that had a grinder attached. You would stir the grinder and the tomatos would smash. That's how we made our sauce. I used to help make homemade pasta, ravioli and pizza. I was the only one who enjoyed doing this with Grandma. My stupid cousins have no memories. Grandma even had her own meat grinder and made her own sausages. By the way, when we made pasta, it was all by hand - no machine. Grandma used a long, round wooden stick on the dough and then it was cut by knife into thin strips.

Yesterday my oldest daughter took her 2 weebles to the animal shelter to meet the dogs and the kitties. They met a dog named Gus and her 5 year old fell in love with him. He was the only one who wasn't barking. They met the woman who ran the place and she told them that Gus had separation anxiety and was known to tear up the house when left alone. He is 3 years old. A yellow lab.

They got educated about why buying dogs from a pet store is not good. She said, they put them in a small cage to breed. The cages are stacked on top of each other and the urine and feces run through the floor of the cage and fall into the cages below.

The pups have no human contact until they get to the store. They often have problems adjusting. Then she said that when a anyone wants a dog from that shelter, they are scrutinized and unless they are found fit to own a dog, and their home and lifestyle passes the test, they cannot get it. THe reason: If they are not treating the dog well, and the dog is returned to the shelter, they are obligated to list the problem with the dog (even if the problem was with the owner) and the dog will most likely be euthanized.

The other reason she didn't get Gus was, she was told that labs sometimes see short people (kids) as prey and she suggested that she wait until the children are older than 5 and 3.

Now we have a weeble in tears. She already fell in love with Gus and so did I... just hearing about him. :( Ms Weeble woke up taking about Gus, told her nursery school teacher all about him this morning and when she gets here, I know I'll hear all about him too. (I have the weebs with me on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.) So tomorrow I will hear about Gus all day. I'll have to tell her that Gus needs to be around big people so everyone can help take care of him. She won't forget him, that's for sure! She's my Capricorn weeble. They never forget. ;)

I went without a living room set for two years because Gator ate two of them while I was at work. I worked hours that were too long. Once I made an effort to work less hours (heck, I wasn't getting paid for them anyway) he got much better. He still will not eat his food unless I'm in the room with him. If I put his food down and leave the room, he will bark softly until I go into the room with him. Then he eats. My father has yet, after 61 years, to wait for my mother to sit down before he starts eating. My mother laughs and says the dog has more manners than my father.

I hope that Gus finds a good home with understanding people.

NO CHEMISE, PLEASE
(Jodi D'Amour / Arnold Goland / Gerry Granahan)
Gerry Granahan - peak Billboard position #23 in 1958

I had a date for the hop last night
Up to her door everything seemed right
But to my surprise as I opened the door
I couldn't tell the front from the back
"Cause she was wearin' a sack dress
Whew what a mess!
The last time I saw her, man what a shape!!
And now she's got a shape like an egg!

No chemise, please, not for me, please
Well you can take back the sack, leave it hangin' on the rack
And bring a sweater back!!

When we arrived at the hop
We started in doin' the stroll
I told her I wanted to stop
But she wanted rock and roll
I told her forty times and it really was a crime
I was talkin' to the back of her head!!

No chemise, please, not for me, please
Well you can take back the sack, leave it hangin' on the rack
And bring a sweater back!!---yeah

(instrumental interlude)

Sure would like to find the creator
Who covered up my baby in this tent
He musta been a woman-hater
I keep wonderin' where the wiggle went
So won't you change the fad, have pity on me please
Put 'er back in her dungarees

No chemise, please, not for me, please
Well you can take back the sack, leave it hangin' on the rack
And bring a sweater back!!

Well you can take back the sack, leave it hangin' on the rack
Bring a sweater back!!

LOL!!! It's a bummer isn't it?? I'm not a sweets eater and I have the same problem. The only way I lose weight is if I eat less. I was always thin until age 50. Then all hell broke lose.

It's the pasta. :hat:

Remember the guy who went to the doctor and complained that he couldn't pee? The doctor said, How old are you? The man said, 90. The doctor said, You peed enough. :)

I hadn't heard that one!!! lol

The sauce for Spaghetti Carbonara is easy....

Fresh Garlic
Bacon or pancetta
Cream
Grated (Romano or parmesan cheese)
One egg

I don't measure (me bad) but I'll try to give you a general idea of how much ingredients to use.
(I use a frying pan)

Warm up your pan throw in some chopped bacon (5 or 6 strips) sautee for a coupla minutes until the bacon is cooked, not flabby.

Chop a few pieces of fresh garlic

Put garlic in and let it get soft.
Add a coupla cups of cream (heavy)
Add a tablespoon of grated cheese
Add one egg yolk
Keep stirring until it thickens
Salt and pepper to taste. (Not too much salt because cheese is salty.) Actually, so is bacon or pancetta.. so forget the salt or you won't get your rings off the next day.

Pour it over 1/2 lb of spaghetti and eat it. Get fat with me.
:)

You are a wonderful person. thank you so much. I am so depressed and that is a perfect comfort meal for me. thanks again. Looks Like Mom's!!!:D

Don't bet the kitchen sink on the weight loss. One time, I gave up chips and pop--the full sugar kind, not diet--and didn't lose AN OUNCE!!!! Not in a whole month. I decided, heck, if I'm not losing weight, I might as well enjoy what I like!!!!

You're prob right and I won't lose an ounce, but I lost some weight when I had my wisdom teeth extracted, so I should be happy with that, right? A few years I've up chocolate for Lent and it does something to me psychologically, so I'm not going to do that this year. Potato chips are the logical thing since they will be painful to go without. :hat:

Oh my.. I hope Gus gets well. I'll send a prayer or two. :(
I did the Catholic thing too, as I sit here, I know I don't want to go sit in a building with scary paintings of a man on a cross while I'm looking at the backs of people's heads and can't understand a word of Latin. The nuns did a number on me too. I believe in God and I believe he's no where near those gold gilded buildings. People who find peace there are fortunate and I do not insult their beliefs if they don't insult mine.
So I am on your page shadey. :)

Poor Gus has a progressive degenerative disease that is making him age rapidly. DH is a vet and noticed right away that something was wrong. Gus' blood and muscle biopsies have been sent to every specialist around the country. They all came to the same diagnosis; and it's a rare one. He's a happy dog but he's only 6, his face is all grey and he is loosing muscle from his body. He's bony.

About Catholic school - I still have scars on my knees from kneeling in the corner on uncooked rice while holding the bible with my arms held forward.

Loretta, didn't I get the pork recipe from you? I made it on Sunday and it turned out great. I even got it to shred properly. I'm also jealous of the flowers.... I bought daffodils for my desk to give me hope.

For all of you who remember making pasta as a child: My mother is French-Canadian and my dad's side is Irish. I did not have spaghetti and meatballs, or anything like that, until I was about 12 and had it over a friends house. It was love at first bite!

Gorgeous!!! We won't see flowers here until the end of April, and at that,, not too many till May and June.. I can't wait!

The jonquils and dogtooth violets are always the first to bloom here. My vinca minor (periwinkle) is starting to bloom and my hydrangeas are budding like crazy, but they won't bloom until much later. I'm working like crazy a few hours a day in the yard. Leaves, leaves, leaves. Everywhere! I've got several begonias and geraniums blooming in the greenhouse and one orchid in the house covered with blossoms. Leroy is the flower nut, I mostly like ferns and greenery.

I fixed it. I think

It's fine, and a beautiful picture! We only have one section of our yard that we consider lawn, the other 2.49 acres is woods. tehee Most of our neighbors chopped down every tree within sight. We're just slowly but surely trimming and building pathways and planting trees and shrubs and building berms and beds.

And by we, I mean me. LMAO

In front of our house we have 2 Chinese lace trees. Also, very old. We didn't know what they were when we bought this house, so we had to look them up online. Beautiful and fragrant when in bloom. I have no pictures of them, There is a lovely pink cherry blossom tree out front that I love. Also very old.. everything is old in this old place, even me. ;)
Dan, the Cherry Blossom Festival is coming up in Macon, GA in the middle of March. I think they are still having it. It has been going on for umpteen years now. My mother had a couple of cherry blossom trees and she loved them. Your pic of your lawn or yard is beautiful.

Loretta, the wisteria is beautiful and the blooms attract loads of bumble bees. It grows all over the woods in central GA and SC. I have known some folks to keep it trimmed back to form a bush.

Sounds like I would love it there. I dread when people cut down trees. I like the old natural look of land. When there are no trees near a house, I always say, It looks like its baking in the sun. We removed one tree when we moved here because it was enormous and some of the branches touched the roof. We have some bad hurricanes and it would have taken the house down if it ever fell. We saved the wood which we burn in winter in the wood stove.

(Which is in the kitchen here.) A coupla centuries ago, this kitchen was only used by servants and they cooked by way of the wood fired stove. It has since been modernized but we kept the chimney exposed and bought a more up to date wood stove. I don't cook on it. lol!

This place was built in 1847 by William Spencer. It is mentioned in three history books, and his face and this house was pictured on the money back then. My neighbor found a copy of it on eBay and gave it to us in a frame. It's so interesting. Spencer was the big boss of this area where many mills still exist. He built this house on a hill so he could watch over his minions in town. He was the banker, the undertaker, the mill owner and also was involved in the underground railroad. The Woonasquatucket river is across the street and runs across RI.

There is a tunnel that runs from up the road to this house. We have a room in the basement that is walled up and was found when the fireplace in the dinning room was removed. There is only a dirt floor and four walls. (Lord knows what else) There is also an area in the back of the house where the snow doesn't accumulate. It has been said that there are some kind of chambers underground.

There is so much history here and I love that.

Here's the kitchen wood stove and poppa's gloves drying there. Above is a framed picture of the 2 dollar bill with the picture of this house on it.

Dani , your house should be featured on the HGTV show- "If Walls Could Talk".
My Grandparents house was built back before the Civil War, but it's just an old southern farm house. Speaking of trees, I was so upset when my brother cut down a beautiful silver maple at the old home place.

Good morning CL! :seeya:

Dan, love the chimney wall! We have a fireplace that we don't use an awful lot. Mostly if we lose power or for romantic occasions. Every once in a while to cook a steak just for fun. We have a Hardy Heil stove that heats the house and the water heaters, it's much cozier heat than electric, and you can burn anything in it, even the cedar branches that we are continually trimming. It's really windy here, so we have lots of windfall; it's hard to keep up with the yardwork! Grew up in an old Victorian and love old houses.

Daisy, I started making colcannon to serve with lamb for Easter dinner, but we like it so much that I make it all the time. I use cabbage too, don't think I've ever seen kale here in BFE!! I sweat cabbage, julienned onions and minced garlic with kosher salt and lots of pepper and add a little stock. I mash about half my potatoes and leave the other half chunky. I'm going to add bacon the next time I make it. Thanks for the idea!

lorettalockhorn

Old Victorians are my favorites! The smells from the cedar branches are wonderful! This old house is before Victorian times and I get confused about decor because I am attracted to Victorian type settings. I'll see something and want it, then I'll look in the books and see it doesn't belong here, but I get it anyway. It's probably an interior decorator's nightmare here.

Now tell me about this cabbage and potato thing. My mouth is watering.

Spaghetti and clams tonight! I'm taking a cawfee break from my dining room. :hat:

hehehe Leroy's style of decorating is very Victorian; wall to wall, floor to ceiling stuff. Grr

Oh, the colcannnon is good stuff! Peheat oven to 325-350.Scrub or peel then cube potatoes. Boil them; you're going to mash them later. Slice cabbage and onions and sweat in a skillet, add garlic when the onion is translucent. Add some water or stock and simmer. When the potatoes are ready, mash them and mix into the cabbage, etc. Bake (covered) for fifteen or twenty minutes. Uncover and bake for a few more minutes if you want to brown the top. I serve it every Easter with roast lamb and broiled asparagus. mmmm good!

I knew at some point I would want to really hate Cindy and I thought it would come out in the trial, but today it happened. She does not want to give a depo because the MEDIA WILL BE THERE?? WTF!! THE SAME MEDIA SHE LICKS UP?? This from a broad who picked the biggest f*****g church to hold court at?? With 102 cameras?? PLEASE!! She wants it her way at all times, now we know why CA is messed up and George is a lap dog??? This woman is a scumbag, and I am glad Caylee is with the angels, and not these losers! This woman went on every freaking show running her mouth about Zanny the Nanny kidnapping her granddaughter, talked smack about two decent men who came forward to help, one spends $500,000 of his own money to bail her dirtbag daughter out of jail, another who searches tirelessly for days to find her granddaughter, spends upwards of $40,000 to do so, countless decent people came with him to help search, GMABFB!!!!

When the media serves her purpose like that disgusting memorial service, she loves them, when she cries and whines on every freaking network, they are great, but when she has to give a depo, a depo the woman she ran into the ground has asked for so she can get vindication and validation, she whines that she and George are so "distraught" they can't testify?? She wasn't so distraught to throw that circus together, where she whines to the world that her daughter is innocent and George asks us to feel the love for her??? The same daughter that triple bagged her granddaughter and threw her in the woods like so much trash?? And puts on the charade for months about "Zanny" "Oh, all I want is for Caylee to come, I feel she is close to home" The same daughter who grabs a woman's crotch on the dance floor and parties down every night, who goes into Target and write checks off her friend's account for beer and movies?? The same woman who left her granddaughter's body in her car for at least a week?? These people need to be charged with obstruction, Cindy gives LE a different hairbrush that Caylee's? Who washes a pair of slacks that surely had the smell of decomp on them? Who calls 911 and says to the operator that "her daughter's car smells like there was a damm dead body in it"???? I think the judge needs to make them testify regardless of the media and I hope that is the case. These people are total losers and in a way they are worse than the Cummings/Sheffield clan, those people have a disadvantage to not be educated, dirtpoor, and ignorant, but Cindy is/was a nurse and George was a cop?????

Remember this is shanty Irish food. There are no rules! I shred the cabbage and microwave until soft. Make the mashed potatoes with warm milk and butter. Mash as much or as little as you want. Add leeks/scallions whatever. If you like Kale you can use that instead of cabbage.

You can add a pound of cooked bacon or ham. Great for ham leftovers. Irish bacon is more like Canadian bacon than American bacon but American bacon works just fine.

It does not freeze well. It gets both grainy and mushy. I wish it did because without DS at home it's hard for just me to finish - I do give it a valiant try! So, I make it when he comes home from college.

Wallpaper has to be a pain to remove! I have one room with it that I am saving for last. I've never removed wallpaper and I did buy the latest stuff in a spray bottle. I'm not looking forward to it. I'm sure there is horse hair plaster under it and I don't know the condition of the walls. I'm thinking I should just wall paper over the wall paper.

Awww, Thanks for the pat on the back shady.. I needed it. :)

Dana, I've got to remove some wallpaper too. I think the little roller thingie that perforates the paper is supposed to really help.

I will tell you this about wallpaper in some older houses (discovered when I redid some rooms in my parents' old Victorian), the wallpaper is frequently applied to lathing, which means that you have to drywall before you can reapply paper or paint. Which means that window and door frames have to be taken down, and baseboards and crown have to be removed and then recut before being nailed back up. Talk about a project!

UH OH!!! I can't do that then... I'd better paper over the paper. Thank you for the warning. I would have been knee deep in hell. Poppa hates when I do a project that I insist I can do. And I hate when he calls the contractors because they don't listen to nawny.

Last round, I threw two of them out! They tiled the downstairs bathroom their way instead of my way. I had to have it done over. They were classic dummies. Every time they came (usually late) they left early and were a couple of need bags. The new contractors were a lot better, but it took two weeks to get them out of my kitchen. I dread them all.

Who's the boss?

I would definitely check a small area to see what's underneath before I removed a large section of the old stuff! The good news is that if you do decide to sheetrock and repaper, you can just rip the old stuff down!

Missed the pix you posted earlier. Great job! Beautiful! Take the week off!

We don't see so many silver maples around our part of AR, but the red maples and sugar maples are gorgeous! Maple Street in Fayetteville where I lived for a hundred years is beautiful enough to make you cry on a fall day. I always give Leroy trees to plant for Christmas. Ooops! That's my fault snoop. I guess I got carried away since I learned how to operate the tiny pictures thing. How can I get the pictures off? Is there a way to do that?

Thanks

I love the pictures. Don't worry about it. I'm surprised the server didn't crash long ago. Anyhow, DW says she has to go through the corporate paperwork approval process to get the server upgraded and it may take a few days.
I just thought anything we can do to help minimize the situation for the time being would be a good thing and the pictures came to mind. I know on other forums I've belonged to that's usually the first thing they ask people to stop posting until they get the server fixed. Thanks.

I had no idea that could happen on boards. Actually I have no idea how my words get from here to there. The inside of this computer is a total mystery to me. :)

Thanks for the reply. I felt so guilty. :o

What about links? Like utube links or CNN links.. are those okay while the server is weak?

Thanks snoop

I think links are fine. It's not your fault - its just something that happens over time. I don't have that much experience with computers either and what little I do know I've learned along the way.

Read your post that a little Weeble wants a cat. If you show her this, she won't want one. I pity the person who has this cat but it must be sweet. My boss runs a cat rescue and years ago, he received two brothers - both solid black, one had mangled teeth that stuck out and the other had an eye that turned out. I named them Boris and Bela for Boris Karloff and Bela Lugosi. There is no name for this cat.

How's that global warming working out for you?

Okay, I'm biased. In my work on ancient Egyptian Intermediate Periods I had to do a lot of work on their climatology records. Go figure, there are these natural cycles that have nothing to do with carbon emissions...but I better shut up before the climate police hunt me down and silence me...time will just have to tell...

LOL, I'm on your side on this one, but don't mention it aloud, you might find yourself under some floating iceberg!!! I keep thinking, you all remember the global cooling we were facing in the 70's (I think that was the decade?) Methinks, possibly the reaction, over reaction to "cooling" got us into the present state of "warming" and we should be careful to not "overcorrect" again,:chicken:

Amy

I'd probably just paint over the paper. Sometimes, when removing wallpaper, one can find various coats of paint over it. :D

Indeed! I say that all the time. I'm a right brainer,, or is that left brainer? I was born with an artistic temperament, so I leave the logic and the technology sciences to the martians. ;)

When the computer goes down on me, I simply cry.

Sometimes I click things and get lucky though. There's the magic!

When my computer goes, down, first I cry. Then I holler for the kids. DD has to be in the right mood to come to my rescue. The other day DS came home and chided me about the mess that he had to clean up--I had JUST run my registry whatever, there were a few things which it "repaired." HE ran it again, and said there were 80+ things and "repaired" it again. I swear, I did NOT add anything or go anywhere unusual from the time I ran the cleaner til he did!!!

If all else fails, I take the box to my ISP place, they are good to fix things--the most I ever paid them was $50.

@ work, I DO NOT call the IS--we are centralized in Denver for Pete's sake!!! Have to call Denver where some yahoo wants to "talk me thru" the problem. (I have babies to take care of, some computer geek can take care of the computer.) The sad thing is, the IS people they "send" to take care of problems? They are right downstairs in our own facility!!! But, we can't just call them. They want to "talk me thru" the problem, too, instead of taking the doggone elevator up ONE FLIGHT to take care of the problem!!! :flamemad: So, if I come across a problem, I ignore it and go to the next computer when I HAVE to use one. Let someone else bang their heads against the computer wall, lol.

I saw that on CNN, and I posted it here too. LOL! I had a little tear in my eye for that poor cat. Though he seems to have a great life. A vet fell in love with it, and the owner of the litter, dropped it off to him at his office. I think my weeble is too young to understand the responsibilities involved in having a pet. My D's two dogs recently died of old age and she wants to wait until the little one is a bit older. I'm sure it will be a dog who is treated as if it's a cat.. LOL!!

She is obsessed with cats.

My boss has over 100. He actually bought property and built his house and another 1200 sq ft house for the cats and he still has about 12 pet cats in his house. Actually, they're his wife's but he loves them too. He is a great husband.

Does this sound as nutty to you all as me?

U.S. District Court Judge Jeremy Fogel halted executions in February 2006 and ordered the state to revise flawed lethal injection procedures.
State officials have since changed the dosage of the lethal three-drug cocktail, improved staff training and spent $850,000 on a new, roomier and brighter death chamber at San Quentin. But before prison officials could submit the new procedures for Fogel's approval, a state judge ruled in December 2007 that the revised protocols had to first be reviewed by the public before they could be implemented.

from story just above...

Gee, let the POS's being executed have a nice, brighter room in which to die!!!!

As for the cruel and inhumane (or whatever they moan about) lethal injection things. I've had concious sedation several times. Believe you me, once that medication rolls thru your veins, NOTHING is remembered. Both instances, I had vague recollections of being driven home. Now, I am here to say that EVEN IF the person could feel not being able to breathe, etc--it's not like he is AWARE of it. I'm sure cutting my teeth out was painful--or @ least would have been, had I been AWARE of it.

The worst the POS would be aware of is the placement of the IV needle. Good grief, if putting an IV needle in a person is cruel and inhumane, guess the medical industry needs to stop that practice!!! Besides, plenty of people on DR probably did IV drugs, so what would be the difference?

My blood still boils everytime I hear about concern about cruel and inhumane in the same sentence as POS's who had NO concern about cruel and inhumane as they killed their victims--many in heinous, atrocious ways, with the victims being very aware of every stab of pain. and fear. and terror.

Last week or so, I had some box pop up telling me about a vicious trojan virus, and I needed to be scanned and repaired and all that. Well, last year, some Windows looking sheild appeared and told me that, and it FROZE my computer!!! Wouldn't let me do ANYTHING unless I paid them $50 for some program. NOT ME!!!!! I don't think it was Windows @ all, because I didn't see the name, just the logo. So, this time, I tried to get that off--and it froze my hotmail on the firefox site. Funny, tho, that I could access hotmail from Internet Explorer. I think it was just some kind of scam to get $$$, and probably still would have frozen my email.

I must say, tho, after DS did whatever he did to clean up what he found, my hotmail has worked just fine on firefox. Go figure.

Instead of getting off my duff I'm reading the news here and everywhere. I'm seeing that our president is mad because those that don't earn or deserve the American Dream can't have it.

I want to use a lot of Italian swear words right now. When I think of those hard working people with stellar credit who can't get *@&^ refinanced on their homes, and those who are losing their homes (that they couldn't afford to begin with,) are getting bailed out, I don't understand.

And I'm a Democrat!!!!!!! What the H***!?!?!? It's my pet peeve this week. I don't think we've seen the worst yet. This world needs a shave and a hair cut. My other pet peeve is, the lazyyyyy generation. Services are non existent. Can't even get a cuppa coffee the way I order it, without going in Dunkin donuts and making it myself.

Not to mention the guy we hired to repair a few gutters who took the money and disappeared.

Then there's the Soft Surroundings Catalog people who charged me for something I returned and couldn't get anyone with a brain to find the return that I had a receipt for. They told me they will not credit my Visa until they receive the return. MOMMY!!!!!!!!

And of course I mustn't forget the free sample I ordered online that never came and my Visa got charged 82.00 dollars for it.

Nobody wants to work anymore except the ones who work.

Rant rant rant :cuss::cuss::cuss::cuss:

Okay, I'll go get those drapes down now. I'll take them to the dry cleaners and if I'm real lucky I'll get them all back cleaned.

I can't take it. Honestly! Rant rant rant, I need to rant too. I know one thing that customer service these days is a thing of the past. The apartments I live at never bother to call back and yesterday I went into the office to complain that it was rude not to call back and she just shrugged. She is the apartment manager for f's sake. It makes me so mad. And it is like that all over. these days businesses don't care.

I feel better today but I'm not going to start the next room until I heal completely. lol!

The snow is falling, coming up from the south. They claim it will snow in Jacksonville, the Carolina's (that's unusual) and of course good old soggy New England. Everyone is miserable! The last storm was horrendous! We're expecting 12 to 14 inches. Grumpy me.

Well Danagher I do love my house very much. It even has a deck outside that picksup the lake breeze. we do not have a big yard cause we live in the city. we also are feeling old. I do not do near enough gardening and it is very hard on our backs to cut the lawn and rake and shovel. Please do as that is why i share it. I know we went thru it with our Mom as i said. She was of good health, drove herself anywhere she needed to go or would grab a plane. We always were there for her and would do alot of major tasks with the house. We alway's knew she was a strong independant woman. It was just her time. Please know that by you paying it forward to your luved one my mom is up there doing the yippy skippy dance. And that is who she was. :rose:

Sorry to hear about your Mom. Bless her heart.

My Mom wouldn't be up on a ladder, but we do worry about Daddy going up and down the cellar stairs several times a day (altho it's unnecessary.) He is off balance a lot, and refuse to use a cane. My aunt told him some time ago, their dad had 2 really nice canes, she is using one, he needs to use the other!! Nope, "that's plumb crazy!!!!" He fell, again last weekend, the doctor and the nurse said--get a cane. He said NO. My aunt AGAIN told him--use the cane!!! Guess we have to let him do as he pleases and hope for the best. I know where I got my oppositional defiance from---those two are the most stubborn Irishmen I have come across!!!!

We attempted to get the folks to move 36 miles to a TOWN (they live in a wide spot in the road w/a post office and church) where 2 of my sisters and our brother live. And, there is a hospital and grocery store. I really think if we had had the type of winter some of you all have had, we might have convinced him to move--Mom is more than willing to, but she won't push his buttons on it!! BIL and his dad have rental properties, so there is a place. There might be enough room for a garden, but no garage for him to put his riding lawn mower, and no space big enough to use it!!!

Yes Beem, sounds like the thing! I had surgical menopause. No one warned me. My Dr just wrote a script and sent me on my way. One night I marked on a paper on my night stand how many times I woke up soaked. 12 times! I didn't know enough to realize why I was melting down with mood swings. Sleep deprivation. Awful!

I did the herbal thing too. It's a lie. It doesn't work.

The HRT pills gave me killer headaches and finally I discovered the patch. Perfect. I still wear it. Old age is not fun. Well, sometimes it is. ;)

I was in menopause by 42 (just after SO went thru a vasectomy, lol) and several years later had a hysterectomy. I tho't I was estrogen depleted BEFORE the surgery, but found out after that I hadn't been!!! I took the pill a couple of years, even after the surgery, the patches never stayed on me. I just quit taking them after a while, and really haven't been bothered with hot flashes or night sweats for years now.

When the doc's nurse was getting info, she told me to tell him to take the ovaries, too. He sat down, said, just the hysterectomy and I said, no, you take those ovaries, too!!! He asked if there was a history of ovarian cancer and I told him, Gilda Radner and Madeline Kahn didn't have a family history of it, either, but they are both dead from it!!!!

Ignore it. It's a pop-up ad designed to scare you and get money out of you. If you did run it like they ask, it will show all sorts of scary dangers - designed to get you to buy it right away. If you have your computer protected, you are ok. Do you have your pop-ups blocker enabled?

Before the AVG (supposedly) notice on my computer, there was a fake Windows one--and it WOULD NOT let me do ANYTHING unless I paid $50!!! NO WAY, JOSE!!! Instead, I spent $50 @ the ISP office and let them clean me up good, lol. I really think it is something that would have kept coming back, even if I had paid it.

And on the AVG one, I already have FREE AVG---and the free system is supposed to take care of viruses, that's what it's for. So, don't know why it should think I would PAY for the service!!!

I like it when i go there. Not to scare you but i tell folks when cleaning like that to be so careful. I grew up in a big ole honkin house. After my Dad passed Mom stayed in it cuz she luved it and had been there 42 years. One day instead of getting out the safe ladder we bought her she chose a chair. We always tried to do those things for her but knew she was going to do stuff on her own anyways. She was standing up on a chair reaching to clean a very tall window. Backward she went off the chair. She was 74. Apparently she got up right away and continued on with her day. My brother stopped in after work-she cooked supper, ate with him and seemed fine. She did tell my brother she fell but minimized it. Refused to get checked as she said she was fine. She no sooner sat down for dessert and tea when a terrible headache hit and vomitting. This was approx. 4-5 hrs. after her fall. End result was a subdural hematoma. She was on life support by 8 that night and we took her off at 11:00. She had a 3% chance of getting off the operating table and would have been brain damaged if she had even made it. I only tell this story so folks will keep themselves safe when doing these tasks. :rose:

LOL LOL LOL loretta I just started the hot flashes and it is driving me crazy. I have gone through the changes of clothing with each day and this is so much worse. Poor dh is always cold because we have the heat turned down and wants to make a fire in the fireplace. My hot flashes totally interfere. love this getting old stuff.............sara

The hot flashes mostly bother me at night, but I've discovered that if I untuck the covers and stick my feet out when I get too hot I can cool off really quickly and go back to sleep (most of the time). So glad that Leroy likes to keep the house pretty cool/downright chilly most of the year. I've never suffered the mood swings or other ailments enough to even consider any kind of HRT. *crosses fingers*

Yeah Sara! McAfee is Dell's choice for virus protection with these new computer's lately. Used to use Norton but they stink. Norton slows down everything. I figured out that McAfree is good, just click the icon and do a scan when you're not sure. That's what I did. I'm okay now, I think.

I think, I think.. :D

I've used Norton and McAfee both in the past, but started using Avast, and I love it. It's free, runs all the time and stops everything.. You can also use it to scan for just in cases.

I finally finished the project I started in the dinning room. I have 3 more rooms to go downstairs. I feel like some one kicked the crap out of me. I'm getting too old to do this stuff. ;) I suppose when this old house is perfect, we'll need to move into a retirement home. I still can't find the servants in here. There are servants quarters, upstairs. I look every day, but nothing.

I have to show you my refreshed dinning room that I was painting all week because nobody cares and I need a pat on the back. When I pridefully show my kids my finished projects what I get is, "Ma, you and Poppa have to move into a condo, will ya? This house is ridiculous!" :(

Here's what I've been doing all week.

Ingredients
2 pounds ground beef
2 eggs
1 cup bread crumbs (up to 1 1/2 cups)
1 cup grated Parmesan
1 tablespoon Italian seasoning
1 tablespoon black pepper
2 tablespoons fresh chopped parsley leaves
2 cloves garlic, minced or pressed
1 onion, diced
1/2 cup ketchup
1/4 cup Worcestershire sauce
1 cup milk
8 slices Cheddar
8 slices baked ham
8 slices bacon
Directions
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.

In a large mixing bowl, combine ground beef, eggs, breadcrumbs, Parmesan, herbs, garlic, onion, ketchup and Worcestershire. Mix well, gradually adding the milk (if it seems too moist, add bread crumbs until it is a consistency that will form a loaf without flattening. Spray a large baking or roasting pan with a nonstick spray and press the meatloaf out. Layer cheese slices and ham, covering the center line of the meatloaf, then close it together and tuck in the ends, forming a loaf which is oblong. Criss-cross the bacon strips to cover the loaf. Bake for 35 to 45 minutes or until an instant-read thermometer registers 160 degrees F.

Be careful with the milk. I find most of the time that I don't need it at all.

Whoa!! So right Jav. There was a time when times were hard for me. I had to do something like, W O R K. I was divorced and a single mother for 6 years. What section 8????? At one point I was so desperate and unemployed, I looked in the classified ads. I took a job at the VA hospital in the cafeteria because it was near my apartment and my car had gotten stolen, which meant I had to walk to work. I lived in a very bad neighborhood. My passion was to get out of it. It took a while but I got another car and went to work doing the most lowly job.

Being unable to work 9 to 5, I had to figure out a way to get my kids to and from school, take them to their extracurriculars and always be there for them. So I had to be available at 8am and 3pm. The job didn't pay enough, so I put an ad in the local paper offering house cleaning. In a short time I was earning 400 to 500 hundred dollars a week. Sometimes more. I made my own hours and built up a good business because I never turned down a job, no matter how scummy it was.

I named the business Lavender Cleaning Services. :)

The blurb read, "If your house isn't immaculate and it doesn't smell like lavender, I haven't cleaned it yet"

It worked!! The phone rang off the hook! I got the lavender smell from a Fabric Softener called Lavender :-) I'd mix it with water in a spray bottle, and use it to go over the counters, in the kitchen and bathrooms before I left. I still do in my own house.

I cleaned empty houses too (for Realtors) and basements, garages, and many, many toilets. I cleaned for the elderly and charged them very little. I made a lot of friends and the old folks loved me.

One Older Jewish woman asked me if I would cook for an after the wake gathering in her high rise apartment. I did that too and that's where I learn about Koogle. I love Koogle.

Then Poppa Joe came into my life and put me out to pasture when I was 42 years old. After marrying him I learned that work was a gift. I missed it. I was constantly bugging him to let me go to work. I felt unproductive and lonely.

During my lifetime I have started, ran, operated and sold a few small restaurants too.(2 of them after I remarried) I was hard on myself but I worked like ten men. My favorite one was, "Calzone Heaven" 101 different Cazones. It was fun! I put anything in a Cazone, even breakfast. After seeing it in Italy, I made Ice Cream Calzones too! Poppa didn't like Calzone Heaven because I was never home. :(

Anyway, I gave my cleaning business to Poppa's niece and she still works it to this day, 16 years later!

What Section 8? These fleas are never going to jump higher than the lid of the jar, even after you remove it.

Boy am I long winded this morning!???!! Maybe I'm a little nervous because it's blood work day,, grrrr. Cholesteral and other old lady issues. I can't get the paint out from under my fingernails. :) Maybe they have a cure for that.

I just think of weebles and that cheers me up.

Sorry I used up so much space.. :o I wrote a fricken book!

I see this all the time. aaaargh! aaaargh!

You should deal with the sole section 8 in our neighborhood. It is known without affection as The Drug House. No one really lives in it, they just come at night to run it, always different people. And they have converted a dutch door into a walk-up window. The exterior is kept up well, though (I'll give them this, at least they're working, lol!), since everyone knows its not the drug dealing that gets the cops interested, its the mangy lawn.

java that is very scarey. I know you are careful and all but geez oh petes. that sounds a lot like the Detroit area and I lived an hour away but I still had to go through the neighborhoods to get to my grad school. Good luck. I hope they do not have a lemonade stand in the summer........sara

I know and how sad is that. So good they have a friggin pretty room. We could do it for free. I have a gripe. My lazy azzzz friggin brother in law on my dear hubs side who has not worked a day in the last 20 yrs. Just had some stomach surgery thingy that shrinks the stomach. 30 thousand dollars of surgery that we paid for as tax payers. He went to Michigan and Ont. paid the 30 friggin thousand. He has a slight back disc problem. So under the guise of that he got it thru medical. Aint life grand. He was not that obese but apparently Ont. has lowered the standard of weight for this surgery. It just so warms my heart and my hubbies every morning we drag our sorry azzz's out of bed to go to work to pay for his friggin surgery. All he does is sit and eat and smoke 24/7 cant figure out why ya cant lose weight. HELLO get off your azzz and move.

Thank Bush for this economy. So many people are suffering for their homes and he's sittin in luxury. I always said we just borrow homes. When we die, someone else gets them. We have a ghost in this one. His name is Tony. (previous owner) His wife told us this house was his mistress. He loved it more than he loved her.

Sometimes we hear noises and Poppa says, "Aye Tony, shaddaph!"

I've been down in my life financially and I found out, when you lose everything, you can do anything.

Believe that! I didn't always. I do now!

We got caught in the snag with a rental property. Bought high, worth crap now. It's a pain in the pocket Sara, but the good days will come back! Stay strong.

The whole society is totally ef'ed up and confused, imo. (Any chance the new mortgage proposal might help? I hope so...we're researching it for us, too.)

Java good question. here is our plan. Unemployment which we need dearly is helping with the bills with my 401k. In fact which is so cool they have added 100 a month. DH works but does not bring home much. I was the big bread winner and that is why we are in trouble. I figure the govt might have their stuff more together when we do not have that morgagement payment. I mean they have been great about unemployment lately and that is new. I'm still being dragged into court for outstanding lawsuits that inmates filed against the institution where I worked that are still not finished. TOday we are celebrating 16 wonderful years together. Through hell and high water, we survived and today I asked poppa if he has had enough. He said, "No, not yet", so I'm still solid. LOL!!

He always takes me to Capricio's Italian restaurant in downtown Providence on our anniversary, but this time, I asked him to take me to the NY System wiener joint in Olneyville near the hill in little Italy, where we both grew up, for old times sake. I've seen enough fancy restaurants and want to go back to our roots tonight.

The NY System is a nuthouse of loud grill guys yelling out orders, and a mixed bag of loud patrons that just got out of a bar somewhere close by. It's a real show of characters with a yen for the best hot wieners in the world!

The sauce is nothing like any, but rather a long simmered ground beef medley that I love. This sauce is topped with chopped onions and mustard! I can eat four of them, with fries sprinkled with vinegar and also a cheese burger that can only be had there! We haven't been there in ages.

I'm going to dress up real nice and wait for my date to pick me up at 6pm. NY System is a Rhode Island legend since the early1940's. :)

I'll bring a camera so you can see the place.

My mother has been lying about her age for years! I didn't know that she was lying to people about my age, too! I was 39 for about 6 years and only recently progressed to 42. She has quirks.

OK, the penis pasta, too funny. Last Sunday my DD, my step DIL and I went to a bridal shower on my DH's side of the family. Our niece is marrying into a very, very Italian family. His Aunt said she would bring a cake, in addition to the "real" cake. They brought it out - shaped like a penis, with testicles and public hair. Not very appetizing. They must be a wild bunch because I have never seen so much lingerie given at a shower. Not to mention the padded hand cuffs that DH had to question me about.

LOL! My kids still think I'm 10 years younger than I am..it started as a goof, but it's continued since then! Good thing I look younger than I am or I'd feel stupid! My husband cracks up when it comes up (my age) cause it makes me younger than him..and he's really six years younger than me! LOLOLOL! I'm never fessing up!!!!! LOL

[/I].

My DH is 10 years older than me but the way my mom is going he'll be younger than her soon. My mother will not accept that I am going on 50. Now she's trying to pass off my DD as hers!

Danagher - They were a fun Italian group. Just shocked the crap out of me! His Great-Grandma was there and was the life of the party. Which was good - DH's family are a bunch of wet blankets.....

There was a place in Manhattan called the Erotic Bakery..works of art, tastefully done though.... We have even used them on the job..but that 'pickle' cake sounded like a "eeeeeewwwww" moment for sure! The rest, all in fun, sounds like it made for a good laugh. I would have been put off with Male strippers though, it's demeaning to the women, never mind the men ~ who needs guys sticking their pickles etc. in your face for money? UGH. This coming from someone who is Verrrrrrry liberal minded!

I made and passed around chocolate penis's on a stick at my mom's surprise 50th for the shock element, Ha, they liked it !...I was 25 then....Ah, youth.

OS - I remember the Exotic Bakery. We also had cakes from there when I worked in Manhattan. We really must talk.

We'll put those pigs in their own category...they're not like us!

Ahhhhh, stronzos! That was my grandma's favorite name for almost everyone who wasn't in her family. If you were family, then you were a scimmonito (sp?) - monkey. My grandfather's sister, Giovanna, was a Tartaruga (Turtle).

Well, the shower was for my niece on DH's side of the family. They are extremely, how shall I say, devout Catholic, no birth control - you get the idea. They also do not have a funny bone....

The grooms very loud and fun Italian family (I never met them before the shower) may have been poking fun at DH's family by giving really risque gifts. I really couldn't tell but I got the impression they were told about the *stick up the butt* family he was marrying into and they succeeded in getting a rise out of DH's family.

Being the heathen in-law that I am, I got to explain the handcuffs to my MIL. They she called my DH (her son) the next day and told him the story and then I had to explain to him who/why handcuffs were given.

Did Stern turn himself in, or did they go out and take him into custody?

I'm kind of having a rotten day. My baby needs to wear a helmet for a few months because of a flat spot on her head. She was breech so she had wry neck, and holding her head to the side when she slept caused it. I tried everything, like repositioning and wearing her in a sling, but...helmet it is.

And insurance doesn't cover it because its "cosmetic". If we didn't get it, she'd have Dr. Perper's head (don't get too excited, Loretta!)...this totally bites...:(

You did the right thing by getting the helmet for her. You are a very good mommy. It's a shame about insurance not covering it because I don't consider that cosmetic. You'll be very happy in a few months when she doesn't have to wear it any longer. http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys/smiley-hug005.gif (http://www.freesmileys.org)

Ignorant people laugh at others for all sorts of reasons. It's best that she wears the helmet now, while she is a baby rather than face teasing from mean kids when she's ten.

The buffoons who do that are the first to complain when anyone in society makes fun of THEIR children's misfortunes. You have to wonder what in their life is so miserable that they can take the time to make fun of the parents or children. What do they want? To let the kids go unprotected and get a serious or lethal injury that can be prevented by the protection of a helmet? Would they make fun of someone with corrective shoes--which is basically what your dd would be using the helmet for--corrective measures.

Oh, strike that last question. The people on those websites WOULD make fun of corrective shoes, too.

Amy

Hanne will have to wear it 23 hours a day, but if I am religious about that it may only be for 2 months. There's a lot of debate in doctor's circles about "cosmetic" since it can put the whole head out of alignment, meaning, glasses, tmj, braces, hearing problems...but Kaiser says its cosmetic, so we're stuck, and its pricey! But I'll just look at lovely Dr. Perper every time I have to shell out. It may be nice on him, but I don't think little Hanne Sophia will appreciate that when she's 16!

It may not be right (and certainly not Christian) but when I was having trouble getting breast reduction for my DD (do you know how hard it is to find an III bra?) I was putting poxes on the insurance co. people and the chiroprator who did not address the problem--as in writing a report to the ins co outlining the reason reduction was needed---altho the ins co had reports from a pediatrician, a psychiatrist, an endocrinologist and a nurse practitioner--nope, needed that statement from a chiropractor!!!!:flamemad:

My pox was for the ins workers and the wife and daughters of the chiroprator to develop bosoms beyond any seen before, and have them try to go shopping for clothes. Especially the school age daughters--try to find cutesy tops that all the girls are wearing. Try to find a prom dress. Try to find a bra.

I don't generally wish ill-will on people, but I'm betting if there were people in the ins co, especially high up, who's child had this problem, wearing a helmet would quickly become corrective instead of cosmetic. Of course, when you get high up in the company, you bypass all sorts of rules and regulations. It amazes me that people sitting @ a phone or desk, reading from an "instruction" manual can't be bothered by letters of validation from people like, oh, DOCTORS for God's sake!!!! It just makes so much sense to provide the helmet NOW, @ a comparative lower cost than what the ins co would have to put out in later years for problems caused by the wry neck. Except, when those problems need to be addressed, they would try to find some way to limit coverage, or refuse coverage @ all. :flamemad:

Last night we ate ourselves stupid! THe food is magnificent. Mainly Italian cuisine but so many unique entrees. I ordered Veal Saltimbocca with shrimp cocktail for an appetizer and fresh caprese salad. The pasta premiere was gnocchi with pink vodka sauce for two.

Poppa ordered veal chop with capers and wine sauce and stuffed oysters on the shell with spinach mozzarella cream stuffing, and Cesar Salad.

THe wine was Pinot Grigio Stratiatele...

We chatted a bit about the kids (Our favorite subject) Then I was telling him about Charlie Manson and how he
ruled those young runaways and he made them obey him... And I wondered why he and I couldn't get employees to walk from one side of the room to the other without complaining. "Waddiya gotta be Charles Manson to get anyone to work?"

Then we talked about cults and those days when the kids turned against the establishment.

So he goes into a long dialog about how he went shopping at VALUELAND one time during those days,,,,,pause,, and he was single. And he was putting his shopping away in the trunk. Then,,,,, pause, ,,,,,,, a man approached him
and handed him an incense stick. "And I took it. And said, "What the hell are you selling?" and the man said, I'm selling nothing. I have a message and I would like you to join us in a meeting so we can explain what it is we
do. And so then he tells me he's a Krishna..."

I looked at him waiting for the rest of the story. I say to Joe: "Your story has no punch. No teeth. What was the
point of telling me that stupid story Joe? So he says, "Ah, it's punch ya want? Well, I kicked the guy in the balls and threw him under someone else's car." Is that better? I said, "Yes. Now tell me Joe, if I die are you going to get rid of my clothes. He said, "Well what the heck am I
gonna do with them?" So I said, "Wear them you bum! And force your next wife to deal with it!" Then we laughed all the way home. I had a great birthday night.

See what a little Hagnog will do? :hat:

Thank you everyone for making my day even better! You are all so nice.

You two are corkers. That's an expression my parents always liked to use when they met people who are too funny for words and fun to be around.

If I could, I'd go up there and work for you. Grass doesn't grow under my feet and I look for ways to save money. I complain all the time to my boss because we waste money. The theory is if it's nickels and dimes, don't waste your time. Focus on $100K or more. I tell him all the time, we have 100 places where we could spend less - you put them all together and you have $1 million. They are finally coming around to my way of thinking. So, if I could work Poppa from here - I'd do it.

All that food, you make my mouth water. http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys/smiley-eatdrink056.gif (http://www.freesmileys.org) It sounds just wonderful. Cent' anni. http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys/smiley-eatdrink007.gif (http://www.freesmileys.org)

LOL!! ROTFL!!! You are quite funny yourself Gator!!! I love your smily guys! (I'll learn how to do that one day!)

If you worked for Poppa, he'd put you in the will! I know that! :)

Hey Nawny, you'd be so proud of me today at my car mechanic's shop. I brought my car in to have the air repaired in december - $548. I brought it in again on Thursday - the compressor went and some other stuff - $941 including oil change. I didn't drive two blocks when I could tell it wasn't right. Told them what was happening and they knew right away what the problem was plus I told her that the winshield wiper fluid wasn't checked, neither was the radiator reservoir and i don't think he checked the tires like I asked them to do. I picked up the car and she said he checked the tires and they were low so he's putting air in them right now. She said it was an inexpensive fix on the air $85.66. I went nuts. Told her that the problem should have been found last week since I described the problem perfectly. And $85.66 is not a cheap fix when I already spent more than $900 three days ago. The manager said that the problem would only be detected when the gas pedal was pressed aggressively and they tell their drivers not to drive that way. I said first, I could tell there was a problem within two blocks and a mechanic should have felt it immediately and as for aggressively using the gas pedal, "I don't drive as if I'm in the Nascar circuit". Case closed - no charge.

Gator

plus, tomorrow morning when it is light outside, i'm checking the oil dipstick to make sure the oil was change.

Yes, bambolini, they are high in protein..and high in fat! and, unless you are going to stay on Atkins to maintain, when you go back to eating those goodies, the ratio changes. I meant chickpeas LOLOLOL anyway, get a nice big can, Goya has THE BEST, better than any Italian brand I've tried. I drain and rinse, cause the stuff inside makes me retch. lol... in a bowl, with extra virgin olive oil, a bit of water ( you want enough liquid in there to marinate those garbanzos, ok) and cracked black pepper, sometimes I add fresh parsley when I have it...microwave about 1 1/2 min. and stir it up. I eat it with carrots, sometimes I mix in chunks of Ugly Tomatoes..so healthy and filling. Chickpeas = steak for protein. Also what's great is Wasa flatbread, also called Kavli flatbread.... All fiber! Mix tuna in 1 T low fat mayo and a handful of spanish olives with pimentos. I use onion powder then, cause I like just the taste of the olives with the tuna. (no chunks of onions even though I love em). Put it on the flatbread, which you can find in any supermarket in the cookie and cracker aisle.

I could live on both those things...and baby, you'll lose that weight cause you will still be 'working it' on that treadmill! Try it or Dr. Goldfarb is gonna kick your butt! hahahaha

(MMMMMMmmm 'bread coolie' is the best, especially fresh from the bakery and dipped in a nice meat sauce while it's cooking!) STOP it! Now I'm Hungry!!!!

I like a tuna salad made with the low fat mayo, cubed apple, and cubed sweet pickles. No olives, pimentos, or onion powder.

Honestly, you don't. You just have to hit it in the right place. DD had a head injury when she was 10 that looked like no big deal. She just bonked her head while going down a slide into the pool. It really looked like nothing. Fortunately DH was home, even though he is a veterinarian and not a people doctor, he noticed something off immediately and called 911. By the time they got there she was unconscious. Short version - she had surgery and did recover. She's 17 and just has a scar where they operated.

OMG just thinking about that is too scary for words, i have a 3 year old son and he is CONSTANTLY bonking his little head on stuff and i never thought anything of it, i just figured you know, boys will bonk their heads on stuff, now that this has happened to this actress i will really be watching when he collides with things, i had no idea that such a small bump could cause so much damage!!!!
