Been there too Gator. Ooooo ya just don't know who used the washer and what went in it. I was the only kid in the family that helped my mother do laundry. So it's been over 50 years of laundry. I say, laundry is my personal hell. lol! When I was married to my ex and our washer went, he brought me home a scrub board. I actually did use it. At one point we had a washer and a dryer, he paid off a gambling debt with my dryer. I was 25 years old and the mother of 3 kids.

I didn't like him. I love poppa much better :)

Me too Nawn! You were a good wife. If I had a husband who brought home a washboard for me to use - that would be the last thing he'd ever bring into the house.

I love it cold. Cold, cold, cold. I don't put on a sweater until it reaches 40 degrees outside. Don't even own a coat. I'm in shorts and teeshirt year round. Yesterday I was sitting in a restaurant and I was wearinf a tank top, shorts and sandals. A football game was on and everyone was wearing coats and jackets. I was envious - it was Michigan.

I would trade places for a week if you are up to it Gator

I don't pay much attention once the clothes are in. I just come here and try to forget the laundry while I complain about it. ;) I think it's 70 minutes yep. When I was a single mother, I had to do a lot of running and had to work crazy hours, so I found this Chinese laundry, you know the rest. lol! I loved it. All wrapped up, folded and ready to wear. 18 bucks a week. Gimmi that!

Poppa helps but he won't do Chinese laundry. Give me anything else; dishes, dusting, vac, paint the house, sweep the garage, clean the attic, yard work, grocery shopping, ironing, hang drapes, cook ....

I vant to be free! :hat:

I guess the one that bugs the hay outta me is the Niagara Falls stuff. For such a world travelled wonder it has gotta be the tackiest tourist town i have ever seen. I'm speaking of the Canadian side. The few nice places there are-way over priced

I was quite the dreamer when I was younger. I gave him 20 years because I didn't believe in divorce. The fact that he looked like Robert Redford didn't hurt him, it hurt me. Book/cover/book. He spent my washer and dryer money at the bar and gambling. Fortunately he grew up to be a better man, but no one beats poppa. In fact, poppa is very good to him as well. I've been divorced for 21 years and my ex quite alone now. Women today don't want to scrub his underwear, they're too smart.

But he was a good sperm donor, my kids are all good looking ;) I thank him for that. Otherwise, useless. :punch:

Yes it is expensive. After checking it all out I saw they want $3000 for the week and it isn't kid friendly. We decided on http://www.beaches.com/main/tc/tc-accommodations.cfm

It's more affordable and there is more included. Five weebles are coming with us and their parents, but they are no fun ;) We're booking it for June 2010.

Awww that sounds like fun. I don't like cold ballrooms either. We suffer enough with the hurtin shoes and that sounds like such a nice wedding, why didn't someone get the AC off? I'm big on approaching the staff when there is a problem. I was part of a staff in restaurants once upon a time. I've been approached for a lot less. I'm glad you had fun Beem. Bayer Aspirin's fix the hurtin hair. :)

Note: My Maytag dryer broke down yesterday. Weeeeeeee..... I think I'll just throw the wet clothes away.

You couldn't get the Maytag repair to wake up? Or, maybe he doesn't answer his phone, having to take a second job and all, since he gets so few Maytag calls!!

Really?! My front loader has a couple of different cycles - normal is 45 mins up to heavy duty 1 hour 15 mins. I do the extra rinse cycle on my clothes (Irish skin - can't handle a single rinse LOL) and that takes another 10 mins.

Sara - great idea getting married that way!

You all TIME the cycles? All I know is, the dial says 14. I'm assuming that is a 14 minute cycle. Now, I have never checked back in 14 minutes to see if that is all the longer it takes. I don't like doing laundry any more than Nawny seems to. I put it in, then wait til I absolutely HAVE to go put it in the dryer. Then, I leave it in the dryer so long that I have to do a fluff cycle!!! Which, if I were an ironing person, I would skip and do the little pressing chore. Good think I'm not an ironing person. I do think I bought an iron some years ago for crafts w/the kids--you had to iron those little plastic thingies on a form to make different designs. I threw my long-broken, unused ironing board out last fall. :chicken:

I like doing laundry - I'm on my fifth load now. I appreciate having my own washer and dryer in the house. When I lived in an apartment I had to use the laundry bldg with some real questionable characters.

For the most part, I like having the washer and dryer. Can do the laundry here and there when I feel like it (okay, when I FORCE myself to do it.) I remember having to get the baskets from the house to the laundromat and back.

OTOH, there have been times I have had to go to the laundromat. All the laundry done up @ once. And, when I get home, all the clothes are already sorted and folded, just have to be put up--one trip to the closets. Done and over. Doing laundry @ home is kind of like a Chinese water torture---one load @ a time!!! lol

You're a girl after my own heart Amy. :) I don't like ironing either unless I absolutely must! Like when I wash the crocheted doilies. I love those. But for clothes, I found the Downy spray which is a little expensive, so I make my own. I put half fabric softener and half water, shake it and spray. It works great and lasts longer than Downy spray.

A size 2? What's that like? Bring food Gator. I've been to a few weddings that charge 80 dollars a plate to the couple and wouldn't fill a weeble as a snack. It's strange that the food is the most important part of the wedding and that part lasts less than 15 minutes, tables cleared and dancing begins. I'm starting to hate weddings. My parties fill lots of tummies for days. lol! We're gonna show you when you come to visit honey. :) You're going to get some of those gnocchi with pink vodka sauce. :hat: And other decadent foods.

The wedding I'm going to on Saturday is 10 minutes from my house. I am so thrilled. I can go home between the wedding and the reception. I hate when you have to kill 2 hours between events and that's what I usually have to do, and then drive home at least an hour.

DS is bringing his keyboard to the church to play for the wedding. Don't most Catholic churches have an organ or a piano? This is the first I've heard of that has nothing. It's not a new church, it's actually very old - in the historic section of town - big stain glass windows. Anyway, this way he can bring it home, unload it and not have to worry about it in the car while he's at the reception.

Now 23 isn't so hard once people understand that it was not written about death but life but the 51st is going to be real interesting. It is one that King David wrote after his escapade with Bathseba and the murder of her husband. Boy, what a week.

How do you post a pic here? Step by step please with lotsa detail :D

1) log on to tinypic.com. You will see "Upload images and videos"
2) click on the "choose file" button
3) this should open a window that shows your computer files. (I find that having the image I want to upload on my desktop is easiest, makes it easier to find)
4) double-click on your desired image name in the window
5) click on "Upload now" and it will start uploading it. when done, 4 boxes with file names will appear.
6) you will want "IMG code for forums and message boards". highlight this and copy
7) Now, you just paste that into your message that you want to post. In your message, it will be gobbledegook. But once you post it, it will be a beautiful picture.

Just a note: sometimes you have to try a couple of times to upload. I don't know why, but sometimes it just tries to load for a long time with no success. good luck!

I finally got to use some Italian from here in class! I had a test and we had to describe some famous people. I ran out of words when I got to a certain young socialite/heiress, so I just wrote "Che Putana!"

Think I'll get credit? :punch:

Have fun! Do you make meat pie? My French Canadian grandmother always made meat pie for Canada's Thanksgiving. I don't care for it and neither does my mom, so we don't make it. I do make pets de soeurs. My favorite is poutine but I'm the only one who eats that.

I've never heard of poutine. I'm going to go see the Google guy now. :seeya:

Oh thanks a lot girls!! I just went to see the pooteen! It's gorgeous! I just had shredded wheat and celery for dinner. My son stopped over for dinner and I had to salivate while I cooked, steak, baked potato, corn, bread and butter and pasta. Now I have to look at those decadent pictures of french fried covered with gravy and cheese. :punch::cuss:

No problem, beemer!! reward me with a pretty picture!

Like Morgan's butterfly...wow, Nawny! That is beautiful! It is not just a literal representation of that butterfly, it is the feeling of the butterfly, too, you know? She is an artist!

Thank you Bob! She's a beautiful and smart little girl. Those Capricorns! They try everything and they do well. ;) I want to get that painting done up on a tee shirt to surprise her.

My only grandson is her brother and he is 4 years old. He is the funniest of all of them. We went out to eat with them all on Sunday and he had me in hysterics. He loves to eat and he whispered , psst, nawn I almost said, I love you to the waiter. :)

God love the children!!

I got hit with a migrain last night. Fell asleep with it, woke up with it. I finally caved and took something for pain. When I get a migraine I feel like someone took my head smashed it up and put it back on my shoulders. Watery eyes, nausea, achy all over. Does anyone here get those? I hate the pain meds because they make me stupid. (More stupid) :o

Well since I'm feeling like a mushroom head, though pain free, I am listening to music at 6am, along with the sounds of rain hitting the window here. I'm Drinking decaf cawffee and I hate decaf coffee. I just heard the most beautiful song.

Poutine is really the only reason I go to Canada. There is a luncheonette near my office that is owned by a French Canadian. She's more than happy to make it for me if I call a day in advance to give her the head's up that I'm coming in - it's not on the menu. It's like my calorie quota for the week, but it is good.

She doesn't have anything to do with this board, that I do know for sure. Just Deepwater admins here. Did it look like you were logged in, like when you're here? All I kept getting was a message that said I followed a link to a thread or post that was no longer valid - see the admin or something like that. CL and Insession are both owned by TruTV - so we are related but seperate. That's really the only connection other than they most likely use the same server. There's another message board called TruTV Reality which CW also admins. Just FYI. :seeya:

Have a good time. Tell Gumby I said hi. I put my foot down with my wife last night on the phone. I AM GOING TO BUY YOU A LAPTOP THIS WEEKEND, NOW HUSH. Dang, I have been trying to buy her one for four months and all she will do is complain about spending too much. Give me a break, she would squeeze the life out of George Washington if I didn't stop her.

Notice I did this over the phone. He he:biggrin::hat:

There is still Tangee lipstick? I think that was one of the first lipsticks I used, and I don't want to say how many years ago...

The only place I've seen it since I was a kid is here: http://www.vermontcountrystore.com/Shop

Somehow, they have all sorts of defunct brands, I have no idea how...they even have Love's Baby Soft perfume, my first! weird.

I haven't bought her anything in a while and if she doesn't pick one out this weekend, I will bring one home from here when I go.

Is Tangee the color or the brand? I guess maybe it's something that never made it to my part of the world? We only had Avon, the Avon lady came a'calling every so often. (I HATE the flowery smell of the Avon perfumes, always have.) Or, when we got old enough to baby sit, we could pick up some Cover Girl in town.

Loved Bonne Belle.

They used to, well, in the late 60s and early 70s have a great sample pack that you could send for. Cost $1.

I esp loved their Super Shower 2000 - worked great as a shampoo in a pinch, too.

Well Nawny, I had my physical this weekend. Proceeded to upset the Dr. pretty quick. He asked when the last time I had seen a Dr. and I told him 1979. He about crapped. He asked why so long and I told him I haven't been sick. You go to the Dr. when you get sick and I haven't been sick. He proceeded to tell me how bad that was and I asked him if there were anything wrong with me. He said no, my blood pressure was great, specially given my age, and my heart rate showed I got a lot of exercise and that my heart was in great shape.(my heart rate at rest seemed to shock him. He thought it would be higher) He said everything else was good and then I asked him, then why should I waste your and my time coming to see you? So you can get richer? If I get sick, I will come see you, if I don't come see you then I am doing fine. Dork, I don't go to the Dr. for fun.

I also got my flu shot last week and he asked where I got it. I told him Walgreen and it cost about half of what it would have if I came to him. My mother worked for Drs for all of her life and the last time I had a complete pyhsical was when she was working in about 1978. Complete with an ekg the whole nine yards. The doctor then told me I was fine and my mother was just worried about me. Well, I am fine so there is not reason to go.

Hi Kids...I'm back. I went to my nephew's wedding in Palm Beach. A lot of fluff and expense and almost no food. I feed Mac more food for dinner that I received. It was two tablespoons of half-cooked risotto, which was inedible - like eating pebbles and a quarter of a chicken breast sliced in two pieces and four asparagas which I don't like, but was too hungry to leave. I had to eat two rolls in order to not be hungry. The salad was three walnut halves, a few pieces of something green and two slices of heart of palm and about one teaspoon of dressing. I guess that's how the rich stay skinny. You hardly have any food to eat and what you do eat is under cooked.

My mom just called and she wants me to bring a pizza to her. She's not feeling too well, so I'll do that now. I'll give more details later.

It just has to get cooler soon, the heat makes her blood sugar and blood pressure too low. It has to break soon.

As to the wedding. I couldn't wear those shoes without breaking my neck, but i bought another pair that were nice but they had a wedge style heel which was much better to walk in which was a good thing because I had to walk in sand. Tell me, who gets married on the beach without a view of the ocean? We had to walk on the sand to get to an area which was surrounded by seagrape trees and vines - no water. Then, the cocktail hour had no seating. My 80 year old parents, the other 80 year old grandparents had to stand or go sit in the lobby away from the other guests. Now, I wouldn't be so critical but the bride and her parents just had to have the reception at this fancy schmancy resort in the section of Palm Beach called "millionaires row". They are regular working class folks who went into hock to have this wedding which i estimated to cost $146 pp just for the food and drinks. Then there was a show with a projector and screen and disco lights and the biggest waste of money was the flowers. They were the tall arrangements. About five feet tall. There were calla lillies and hydrangea in the arrangements but you didn't see them. All you could see was this huge glass cylinder with water and roots and you coudln't see around it to talk to anyone without leaning to one side. They had to cost $125 each. Maybe I'm getting too old and too practical. I mean, is it logical to have to give a wedding gift equal to a week's pay?

It's like Nawny said, you used to give $100 now, the wedding costs about $200 per guest. Plus the cost of getting there and hotel. What's wrong with a beach luau or BBQ? I went to a wedding like that and it was great fun. No one had to spend hundreds on clothes or shoes. Just a sundress, sandals, hamburgers, sausage etc. and great music. That's what a wedding should be, enjoying friends and family on a blessed day. Well I did have a good time with my parents and brother and sister in law at the hotel and lunch at Cracker Barrel. We did not leave hungry after that meal.

Oh, another thing about the resort. When I walked out with my brother and sister in law at about 11:30. He had to lead the way because there was no lighting in the parking lot. It was pitch black. I couldn't even see a few feet ahead of me it was total darkness. I've never seen such darkness in my whole life. I would have fallen and broken a leg for sure in my pretty shoes.

We stayed at a Best Western just down the street for $150 less than the resort and it was wonderful. Really nice and spotlessly clean. We had free breakfast the next morning by the pool. The other saps, I mean guests stayed at the resort and had to pay for breakfast.

At the wedding I was able to talk with my future nephew in law about a big case in Palm Beach that he won. He was part of a legal team defending on a capital case and if found guilty, it would have been automatic life in prison. There were a lot of circumstances involved in the case which I didn't agree with the prosecution for charging. It had to do with elder abuse. He actually worked with Dr. Michael Baden who testified. He said he is a huge man, gigantic but so very nice and his knowledge is amazing. There was a guilty verdict, but only on the minor charges and not guilty on the major charges. It was a big win for a young attorney. I am so very proud of him. He is a wonderful young man and is marrying a diamond of a young woman. She is smart, sweet, kind, generous and beautiful and not just because she's my niece. :o

It's so nice to be home! I missed myself. ;)

Vermont was nice, green, cows, fences, more green, more fences, wet, cold, green and some foliage... nice though. I got to go antique hunting and picked up a great print by some unknown that I fell in love with. I saw a lot of stuff at the Vermont Country Store and got the Tangee. Yeth I did! I picked up a few things for the kids but I refused to pay 59.95 for a flannel baby nightgown or 75.00 for a knitted toddler's hat. They're nuts! But I got apples! And of course the cheese! I still love RI better.

I told ya these weddings are skimpy with the food. I hate them! That is a travesty! (You know how I feel about food Gator!) For me, eating is celebratory and to invite people to your party and have them be kind enough to spend the money to arrive to honor anyone, is a gift and it should be repaid with food. God dammit! Okay, there, I feel better now.

THis is exactly what I was talking about re weddings lately. I believe weddings are for the guests, not to show off and spend thousands and thousands for a 5 hour party. I like the casual weddings. No one was impressed, I'm sure and the bride probably cried herself to sleep that night.

YOU DID NOT!!!!!! hahhahhahhha!

Oh! I forgot to tell ya; I also bought Gee Your Hair Smells Terrific and the Beer shampoo. I saw the Lemon one, but that was never my brand. I found the Madelene doll for one of the weebs and got that because Poppa used to call her "Paddlin Madelene" when she was crawling. She always crawled to him because he made the toast in the morning and always gave her a piece to gum to death. She loves poppa still to this day. She's 5 now and she thinks he rocks. See what food can do.. ?

I hate doctors. They make me sick. :cuss:

And I hate insurance companies who expect you to go to a doctor when you are not sick. All the tests done and now they are saying I may have to go to the doctor when the whole thing was I needed to have this done to qualify. Nothing like false advertising huh? They called my wife and said I may have to go to see a doctor no matter what the tests say. I think I will look for another company. If they lied about this what else do they lie about.

Oh, I bought my wife the laptop this weekend and got it all set up. She called this afternoon and now the dryer quit. Ha, what else can go wrong? Well, at least I may be able to fix the dryer. Sounded like a bad start capacitor on the motor. (I taught electricity for 16 years at a technical college.) We will see. On the bright side, I won $9 in the lottery this weekend.

Gator

I am so sorry Gator. I wonder if that is cheaper or not. how strange.

Awww that's not braggin that's loving! For the children, it's all good! I love kid art and some of it is very famous! Tell him to keep on painting! I have a book here called, "I dream of peace" which illustrates many drawings and paintings done by kids in war zones across the world. It's fantastic.

Gator - The wedding I attended didn't really have food either. The cocktail hour stunk and the meal portions were appetizer sized. Don't get me started on the piece of cake - I could see through the sliver.

DS played the piano for the church service. The priest stood up, motioned for everyone to rise and that was DS cue to start the processional music, ready to change to the tradition bride song. Well, no one started walking down the aisle. DS played the same song over and over - 6 times - before the 1st bridesmaid walked down the aisle. I was beginning to think the bride changed her mind.

Yipes, I can imagine the steel problem. Soooo, what do you do on a day you can't construct? When I worked at the museum and we couldn't go out to weld we sorted screws. Millions of them. I think they intentionally mixed up screws so we would have busy work on down days...

So, is that going to counteract the present water situation? Can't remember where I heard it (except I'm pretty sure on radio) someone from CA was talking about the, I think, "talks" about the water, and that there isn't enough, and it's been a dry year. (Altho, I'm pretty sure I read something, maybe even here, about water being curtailed to protect some endangered species of something--probably fish?)

Oh, yeah, the Delta Smelt. California wouldn't be the same without it. Farms wouldn't be ripping out their orchards, for example.

No matter how much water we get right now, no end to the drought will be declared until at least the March measurement of the snowpack, and in any case, they have already set it up that we are so far behind that we will have restrictions on water for a couple of years at least. Water is power in California, and those that have peed on that tree will not likely give it up.

Yet...weirdly enough, no matter how tight our water rationing is up north, pools still sparkle in the sunlight in LA. Hmmn... I'll be heading down there in the near future, I'll update the farm situation.

I still get it, I figure its got less of the nasties, but I was still horrified watching crop dusters fly on over the trucks

Of course, I should add that I did not se every truck in the Central Valley. Perhaps the 5 or so I saw like this were an anomaly...that is what I will choose to think because I like the concept of organic produce!

How do you know I'm not posting from the Great Beyond :D

Okay, so we got lots of yard flooding and the gutters are overwhelmed. The worst was my mom's calls giving me her Sonoma weather updates every hour, everybody PAAAAA-NIC! Oh, and the hubby coming home early from work to avoid the first rain of the season drivers...so the dog is ripping up garbage trying to get him to come out and play. But I sense a wet year coming our way. I don't remember when we've had such a big storm in October...and its still raining.

Stay dry, Snoop!

Oh I just know these things.

I am glad you did not get anything too bad. that is just so nice of your mom. did you panic lots?

I sure hope O2S is okay. radar shows rain still over her house.

I still have not figured out why all the screws in a museum tho:)

10-14-2009, 05:00 AM
Yipes, I can imagine the steel problem. Soooo, what do you do on a day you can't construct? When I worked at the museum and we couldn't go out to weld we sorted screws. Millions of them. I think they intentionally mixed up screws so we would have busy work on down days...

They go home unless there is something for them to do. Mostly go home. It is a part of construction. Shoot, a lot of them want to go back home. They get about 2 hours pay for showing up.

This company is being paid Time and Material. The job is not bid on a set price, just a per centage mark up on the Time and Material the spend. So, when they are rained out the customer does not want to pay 2000 people to stand around and do nothing.

The lake in our back yard is up to the edge.

Wow! You Californians are either roasting, burning fires, earth quaking or steeped in rain. Come here and bring your feety pajama's so's ya don't freeze your butt off. Of course California is beautiful and it's the place to be if you're loaded. I know there's gold in dem dere hills.

Nawny - love the pictures. Glad you had a nice time.

Beemer - did you have a nice Thanksgiving?

Thank you Shadey. It was very beautiful in Vermont. I'm quite the whinebagger and don't adapt well away from home without my cawffee, family and laptop. lol! I'm such the Rhode Islander. ;)

....definitely oversized. Some halls won't do under 300 guests. You know that movie My Big Fat Greek Wedding? There are lots of weddings here where both families are that size, and god forbid you leave out a 9th cousin 12 times removed.

Food is the main thing, and I've never been to a wedding where there wasn't a lot of it. Wine is like the last item on the wedding totem-pole. Very few weddings I've attended, even very fancy ones, had drinkable wine. Some had good open bars, though.

Flowers are somewhere in the middle. Depends a lot on economics and ethnics.

Favours for the guests are rare. Even at small weddings. I think in 35 years I've only been to one wedding where favors were given.

I've seen a lot of changes in wedding customs since I came here. Most of them for the better!

Yeah Gator how bout it-I'll take care of any pet as long as its not from the reptile family :chicken: What is your opinion of squatters rights gator-like sara and me in your backyard ;)

You guys are so funny. Talk of squatters - there was a piece on the news last night. Get your bags packed......A snowbird from Canada went home months ago, leaving his condo on Cape Canaveral Beach. Squatters broke in, changed the locks, put the electricity in their name. Now that guy came back and he can't access his own house. The police were called and they said it was a civil issue and they can't do anything. The squatter is still there. The owner has to get an attorney and serve the squatter with an eviction notice which could take over a month.

By the way, I have black snakes living under the patio of my house. At least I did, Mac may have chased them all way. He likes to pick them up and throw them in the air. I have a lizard living in my closet right now. Freddy brought him in and I had to chase him around the house. Of course he dropped the lizard in my bedroom and the lizard ran into the closet. I saw him this morning so I put a dish of water down for him. Hopefully, I can get him out.

41) What do you know of the specifics of the case? You need to provide more paper.
42) Have you heard of JB and AL? yes. What have you heard? I need more paper. And a thesaurus to replace some wording.

It was great Shady. I look around the table when we are all seated and thats my Thanks-my family, health and all of us together sharing dinner. Thankful to be so blessed. Speaking of food what is up with these weddings you folks have been attending  After the ceremony the food is the core of the day. Sharing their first meal as man and wife with those they love (except for those have to invite people ;)) If ya cant afford a proper meal then you must scale back somewhere else. I like theme weddings-beach party, barn party, tons of food could then be had.

I hear ya. I have no idea why they are skimping on the food. I don't need a huge spread but I would like to go home not hungry. Especially since there is so much alcohol you would think they would want people to have enough to eat. I really don't like when they give you a dime size pat of butter.

It's over - I don't think I'll be invited to any other weddings soon. They seem to run in spurts. I've been to a lot the past year. Next year it will be baby showers LOL!

Those people who are squatting should be very glad they don't live in RI. They'd be in pieces. Poppa once had difficulty with some tenants and he took the door off the apartment. Another tenant refused to move out so he went in when they were not home and threw their furniture out the window. (Not the couch. He just pushed that into the hall where he put the mattress.)

I agree Shady D. Here in RI the typical Italian weddings have the traditional dinner. Roast Chicken, Escarole Chicken soup, Salad, bread, butter, Ziti and red gravy, family style. Then Spumoni, Cake, Coffee. Then dance and drink all night. Lately the yuppie fashion is always uniquely awful. I don't like those.

Good Lord I hope he isn't planning the funeral. If he's anything close to normal his life is shipwrecked for good now. I was talking about this with poppa and he said, the guy panicked. He must have been obsessing about the recent break ins in the neighborhood and wanted to play hero. I said, Hello? she wasn't in the bed and he didn't notice she wasn't in the F-bed! He was drunk, blind, and crazy maybe? Good thing she didn't marry him. Ooo, that didn't sound right. Anyway, this is a full definition of horrible. I think I hate that guy.
