The closest my dad ever was to washing a dish was leaving the spoon after he stirred his coffee on the counter next to the sink. I din't think that he knows to this day that things go INTO the sink.

Gator

That was the first "chore" I ever had. Washing the dishes. Didn't really mind it. Now, KP in the army was a bit much.:(

I just got back from Dave's. LOL! I spent the better part of the excursion reading carb, and sugar content. Did you know that Cheerios has 4 grams of sugar? WTF? And did you know that heavy cream has a 1 gram of Carbs? And.. do you know I'd rather be an ommphaloompa than diet? But I'll do it. I bought lots of veggies.

I'm good, I'm good. Corned Beef and cabbage tonight. No bread. I'm fasting. But the Barilla pasta was on sale 5 for a dollar. Dayam!

Now I can't wait to see House!

I saw where Slim Fast had I think 37 carbs. That's good. I'm allowed 45 carbs for breakfast. Getting up early enough to EAT something, let alone cook it, before going to work, just isn't something that works out. Well, if you're diabetic, don't use the 37 carb Slim Fast--@ least 28 of those carbs are SUGAR!!! No wonder I was sweating and felt like carp!!! lol. Lesson learned. Look @ total carbs, but pay CLOSE attention to how many of those carbs are from sugar.

My father too. Never touched a sink or a stove. In fact I don't remember him ever opening the fridge. He always got served first too. My mother made his favorite meals exclusively for him. Things they used to call poor man's meals, like Cabbage and beans, Escarole and beans, Tripe (yuk) and of course the usual European foods. Now they are delicacies in Italian restaurants. I laugh when I see escarole and beans for a high price on a menue.

I can still see him sitting there with his dish. I grew up watching my mother serving him and I do the same thing here with one difference. Poppa washes dishes if I don't get to them first. He's always a part of everything I do; Even laundry :) It took me forever to get used to it and not feel embarrassed. I was a dope.

But I'm all bettah now Ollie. :hat:

You two know each other very well. that is a good thing. my dh and I do that esp thing. I can feel he is going to call me and many times we say the same thing at the same time.

Escarole and beans............a delicacy for sure. You know there are people in my state who would believe that..........:(

Didn't you hear...59 is the new 39. Nawn, when my grandma was 59 she looked like the new 109. Times are so different. Grandma look like moms.

I saw a pic of Kara Kennedy taken @ her dad's funeral. Now, they list her age as only 43, which sounds about right. But I'm here to tell ya, she looked 60 @ least. Must be all that sun and ocean water ages your skin prematurely? Otherwise, I don't know what kind of living she did--drinking or smoking or other activities that contribute to premature aging of the skin.

Thanks. I hadn't read that. That would go under other activities that can contribute to aging of the skin. I was just really surprised by her looks, and could only think of all the time the Kennedys seemed to have spent on their boats. But did notice that the brothers' skin wasn't so lined.

I do hope the treatment was successful.

Ah shucks - thank you.

Oh loading pictures is easy. Just plug the wire into the camera and the computer, then suddenly pictures show up on your screen, then you turn off the camera and wella. Then they go somewhere. When you find them :o just send them to me. See? Easy. :) I do not know how I get through life. It's osmosis.

Free woman syndrom is nice. But they come Baaahaaack! I'm tellin ya!!!!

Too bad MY CAMERA went to college, too. I can take a photo with my cell phone and sent it to my computer. I'll work on that.

DS won't come back home unless something totally unexpected happens. I expect him to leave NJ and head somewhere where he can bike/swim/run outside for at least most of the year. His gf is from CA.

DD might come back briefly IDK about that one. She'll be back during the summer. DS stays at school - double major.

Actually, none of the Kennedy women seem to age well. Caroline is about my age and I thought she looked old. The men, as usual, hold up better.

The place I am working right now should be getting really nice in a month or so. Foothills of NC about 70 miles out of Ashville and about 50 from a place called Lake Lure. There was a movie shot in that little town. At the Lake Lure Inn. My family stayed there once. Nice little town.

Ahh that's so funny! Did you see it on the Dolce Vita Menu? All those pasta dishes cost under a dollar to make. The mark up is wild! When you buy pasta wholesale, the price is 4lbs for a dollar. Or it was.. I don't know how much it is now, but still cheap, I'm sure.

Ahhh, okay give me more work. I guess there are good carbs and bad ones. The carbs in veggies are good carbs right? The carbs from bread and my beloved pasta, are bad ones. I think I can get a degree in carbs one day. I swear! That Marie Osmond diet where they mail your food is a joke. They use fancy words to say, low carbs. I could never eat lasagna that has been out of the fridge for more than an hour, never mind in the mail! Something has to be very wrong with that. Preservatives are killing people. Processed foods are poison.

I read a book called, The French Don't Diet. It starts with a little story about the author who was in France on some business and met a very intelligent woman who was involved with the same company or whatever he was there for. When they invited her to their place for some coffee, she saw the powdered creamer and refused touch it, asking for milk. She said, that stuff is poison and I won't put it in my mouth. Do you Americans realize what you are doing?

A friend used NutriSystem--and the food did NOT look all that good @ all. And you think you are getting your MEALS for the day--nope, just the entree and then I think there is some desert. She had to make a salad or veggies or something to go with the entree. Looking @ the commercials, one would think ALL the cost of your meals is covered--but it seems not.

Have 2 sisters that have resorted to NutriSystem @ various times. I try not to be around when they break out their food, lol.

When I was diagnosed w/Diabetes, first I tho't OH SH!T!!! Cuz, of course, my favorite food is POTATO, altho I do eat it fairly plain, don't put things like chile and brocolli and cheese and stuff on it (just butter and sour cream, lol, oh, and the good veggie chives ;) ) But, hey, I like most veggies and fruits, in fact, I eat those a lot more than meat. Don't care all that much for the pastas and breads.

I was SHOCKED to see that I was rather limited on the stuff I do like, tho. The melons, the grapes, the corn, the green beans, etc. 17 grapes, medium. Are you kidding? That's just the BEGINNING. Who ever stops @ 17?? About a spoonful of the melons. Come on, a serving of watermelon is @ least ONE HALF of the darn thing!!!!

My downfall really is that I will eat one food @ a time. That's it. If I'm hungry, I will get out the melon and eat that. Later, I might get out some celery. Or, I might get out the chips :chicken:. I am a grazer, and to not only think up, prepare, eat and clean up a MEAL is more than I can deal with. I don't do well in restaurants, lol. The grazing thing might be a good deal, if I used the proper foods. Really, you are supposed to eat @ least every 3 hours to keep your blood sugar levels level. Then, you don't get to a starving point, which is when you gorge--and not usually on the best type of foods.

Honestly, you learn a lot when you hang out with the opposite sex. Trust me, I work with only men..... I've been married for almost 24 years and I thought I had a pretty good handle on men. Nawny, try Dreamfields pasta. It's very low carb because they make it mostly from semolina and artichoke flour. It's high in fiber and has a carb content of like 5 grams when you subtract the fiber. It's delicious, it has an excellent texture, not mushy, and you can't tell it from Ronzoni or Barilla. It doesn't affect blood sugar much and also has the same stuff that's in IP6.

You can have a smaller portion because the fiber really fills you up.

My regular doctor received the results of my last blood tests taken by my endocrinologist. She sent me to the lab for more blood tests and asked me to come in for a follow up. I used to go in every two months because of sinus infection, but since I avoid the allergy stuff I haven't seen her and I'm healthy. :) So I guess a car payment was due so she said I needed a follow up.

She ran the tests because she couldn't believe the first test were accurate, everything improved so much. She wanted to know how I dropped over 120 points in my triglycerides. I told her I am basically eating the Meditteranean diet but not as many grains as it is called for. She just stared at me. Said my liver enzymes were perfect. She also noticed that I dropped 15 lbs since my last visit, making it 30 lbs in a year. I think she will be buying olive oil and fish on her way home. Especially since she's allergic to wheat too.

Then, she even did a urinalysis and came back and said, it's perfect, not a trace of anything.

Gesh, you would think I was either a dead man walking before or she's disappointed that I'm doing so well. She probably did buy that new car expecting my every other month visit.

I have about 7 boxes of linguine. I use a lot of that, even for soup. I break it up. I'm going to get the weebles from school in a bit. I made Mary's Family supper. I fried up some eggplant, meatballs and sausage and made a gravy. I'm eating vicariously today. :D

Alright, I had two meatballs before they hit the gravy. :chicken:

I love artichokes! Poppa went for his yearly today and his BP was 124/78.. Those fish oil tabs are doing a great job! He's not on any BP meds at all. He lost some weight too. I'm so happy! His doctor is my nephew and when poppa tells him about the herbs he takes, he just shakes his head. :) Poppa laughs at him. He calls him kid.

I love artichokes too but I have good BP and cholestoral. what is the taste difference Nawny?

It's pretty easy to find "alternative" pastas here - spelt, rice, corn. Don't think I ever saw artichoke here, though.

I eat very little refined flour - just a focaccia now and then.

I prefer the taste of whole wheat pasta.

my regular doctor received the results of my last blood tests taken by my endocrinologist.

I don't specialize in Polynesia, but I've heard from colleagues that they were carved in the quarries (the stone is like a volcanic tuff) and then moved on rollers to the sites where they were raised. The roads they moved them on have been found. I bet the "hats" were placed up there using scaffolds, slowly raising the scaffold with the hat on top while they raised it level by level...They all also had huge eyes inset in those haunting sockets, btw. They've found some. (Just a caveat: the Egyptians left us basically diagrams so we have a real good idea exactly how they did everything...the Rapa Nui didn't. So we may never know the details, only the basics)

There were a lot more resources on the island early on than later. Too many people, too much consumption, apparently.

Poppa probably lost those pounds because when you were angry  at him, you didn't feed him. Maybe you need to be angry a couple days a month so he just eats a can of beans.

LOL! The opposite happens when I'm on a roll. When he gets upset he eats more. :cuss:

He's been trying to lose weight most of his life. He goes up and down. I just had to rearrange his closet again. He has a few sections of clothing that range in size. I just moved 9 pair of his pants to the front lines. The shirt situation drives me nuts. He could dress the entire church choir three times and still have too many clothes. He has two closets to himself and three bureaus. His sock draw and tie racks look like the back of Joseph Banks men's clothing store. When it comes to clothes, poppa is not normal.

I do not like winter either. The pines here are fine in winter but the oaks and other trees look dead to me with no leaves. And heaven forbid it should snow. I have lived down here all my life but I have figured out how to drive when it snows. There are a bunch of folks who loose their minds when it snows. When I spent the week in Wis. in Feb. Thank you! Poppa knew about it. I think he ate encyclopedia's when he was a kid. Actually he was educated to pieces. Pre Law, Medical School and Business college in NM. He opted for business. I'll never figure it out. But he knew about those fugly statues. He had a lot of academic exposure for sure.

I get itchy teeth when I learn about such things. It's exciting BoB. One of the sites mentions that it is the least visited places. I wonder why. To think those things predate back to a time when the world was so new. When man was so capable and sort of brilliant. And centuries later, I can't get a cup of cawffee made the way I ask for it at Dunkin Donuts OR Starbucks.

Nope, I do not like snow. That week I spent in Wis in Feb, the HIGH temp was -17 f. Why in the world do people live in that when a move south would be much warmer. And no, I do not want to go ice fishing. You fish out of a boat, and boats do not do well on top of ice.

I actually like snow, it's so scenic when it's falling. But since we moved here, we struggle with the driveway. It's like going from six o'clock to twelve o'clock if you're driving up the face of a clock. And it's long because the house is set on a high piece of property. In fact today, they are going to rip up a strip of it to lay some pipe to bring water to the back of the house where they are going to put a bathroom that never was. They are going across the back yard too. And it's wet out today.

Okay. I gotta vent somewhere.

9/11 "Truthers" are nuts. Totally. OKay, I already knew that. But I accidentally ended up on one of their sites today, specifically dedicated to "proving" that all the people on Flight 93 did not exist and my jaw dropped. Including one I personally knew! :flamemad:

It was not Bush or Cheney, it was not Mossad or any other "zionist" group. It really was al-Qaeda. The people who died really died, and where we think they did. They were not government agents who were "gassed" on the planes and secretly killed later on a base in the Arctic. Jews DID go to work on 9/11, and died in the WTC too. And no, Diane Sawyer did not get switched with a "Sim" on 9/11 for the live broadcast (!).

There, I am officially on record as being NOT INSANE.

No, you're not insane. That day was beyond horrible and beyond description. I'll never understand it or forget about it. I can't read those sites. Some families are still in grief to the point of endless tears. Our security systems at airports are already slacking off. If we're responsible in any way, it's that way. In other countries, that is not the case. You can't even bring bottled baby formula on a plane in some countries.

No, you're not insane,

The snow is pretty up till xmas then it can go. When the kids were younger we used to have a huge rink with floodlights in our backyard. I used to luv watching a ton of kids skate or play hockey while the snow fell.

Yes Christmas is my limit too. no more snow. when I was younger my dad wanted to make a skating rink in our backyard for my brothers and I. He ended up flooding the entire yard what a blast.

LOL - I have really high arches, too. Did you do ballet? It leads to really high arches and defective feet.

I'm not a snow fan. I live in Western NJ on top of a mountain. It will be raining on the highway and for 2 miles after I exit. 3 miles from home it starts snowing. The road goes straight up the hill and then there is a sharp bend. People who moved in from the city all bought vans. Vans do not make it up the hill in snow. I have to leave work early to get up the hill before they end up shutting it down.

The good thing about living on a hill is no flooding. the bad thing is slippery driveway and Ice makes it so bad. I rented a house on a hill once and my little stickshift 6 cylinder had no problems. my bf at the time could barely get his pup up the driveway............

THe bad boys are doing major surgery on my driveway and back courtyard. What a mess!! I was watching them fill in the trench and wondered how much it would cost to remove all the asphalt from the back courtyard. Grass would be nice there. SO true. I used to go to Border books after I got divorced and felt lonesome. I'd take a book to the lounge area and read it. One time I fell asleep on one of the couches. THey close at midnight here. I was so embarrassed. :o

I buy my books from Amazon.com. It's so nice that you can read a lot of reviews online and decide if you want the book or not. I did buy that book Blink last week at a home Good's store here. It just yelled at me, but I didn't like paying 17 dollars for it. I get them used on Amazon very cheap.

TO answer the smoking in Starbucks question: No there is no smoking. But they have smoke shops here where you can go in and smoke cigars and pipes and they serve beverages. Mostly men go in them. However, RI I think, was the last state to ban smoking in restaurants and coffee shops. Most of the restaurants now have outdoor decks for smokers.

Ewww....

My idea of a wonderful snowfall is--the lawns and fields will have snow, a little on the roofs, not enough to harm them or make them fall in or anything. There can be some on the trees--that can look kind of pretty. HOWEVER, the snow should not fall on the sidewalks and roads so we can drive safely.

I don't know if I don't like tomato soup cuz that ALWAYS was part of the grilled cheese lunch, or if I don't like Velveeta because of the tomato soup. I drink mine regular no sugar too. In the old days, when people with a brain served you coffee, the word for milk cream and sugar was "Regular" Regular, to me means with cream add sugar. In the business I was in, I knew regular meant with cream. I must have served a million cups of coffee and often the order was big. Someone could order 5 or 6 cups and I remembered every single order.

Now when you order a regular coffee they look at you like you have ten heads. You have to be specific. One coffee (size) with cream, no sugar on the dark side. What you get is anyone's guess.

Now, when I order a coffee, I say, 1 medium HOT coffee. Cream NO sugar, don't give me a cup of milk. I have had to give it back to the person at the window and say, "Can you put some coffee in this?"

I have coffee issues. Yes I do. I can't take it!

So whats the coffee house of choice?

In my house? Strong instant in the winter, strong cold coffee with lots of milk 3/4 milk, 1/4 water in the summer.

My ex liked Turkish coffee, uncooked, Just boiling water on the grounds, like instant.

My brother likes Turkish coffee cooked on the stove, or over the embers of his BBQ grill. He gets the kind with cardamon ground into it.

When I go out to eat I like a double expresso after a meal. When I go out for coffee, which I don't do that often, really, then it's a part milk part water latte, called upside down coffee here, with lots of foam on top.

But always strong.

Are you having swine flu issues in Israel, too? It's a big issue on the college/university level here. Mt DD is at a school that is targeted to receive the vaccine first. DS is not, but he is the one with the underlying condition - asthma. DD is at a State school. DS private.

My mom is in an over 55 community is PA. One of the ladies she hangs out with grandson was the 23 year old that died in FL recently. He had asthma, too. He was mildly sick for 2 days but had trouble breathing. Next thing she heard he was on a ventilator and get down here right away. All his organs shut down and they removed the ventilator.

I'm not big on being one of the first to get a new vaccine, but this is one I'm considering sending DS for as soon as it's available. Our doctor said he would be one of the first targeted because of the asthma issue.

We've had some cases and deaths, but when I woke up yesterday feeling like cr@pola I wasn't worried, because I no temp, wasn't that wiped out, and still had an appetite. Even in the afternoon my temp only went as high as 37.2 (37 = normal).

Doc gave me three days off from work, Today-Tuesday. I hope I don't have to really take Tuesday off, it's the day that I am alone in the dept., and I'd hate for them to close it before the holidays start coming.

I'm 50+ so I get the seasonal flu vaccine, I don't remember if it is free or cost a dollar or two. But since my age group isn't the one most in danger, I guess they'll start with the preggies, the young and the health professionals.

Haven't had flu since the mid 80s, and before that only in 1971 or so, I was still in HS and in 1957 or 1958 as a tinnie tiny.

Off to get more water.

You must be so worried shadey. I agree he should get the vaccine and I'm sure he will be fine. Think good thoughts. This flu is going to make all of us nervous this year. My DIL is over the top with the sanitizers. The school kids are taking home these weird viruses this past few years. She got Hand foot and mouth last year and she's paranoid now. It's so upsetting when someone you know got that sick Shadey, but stay positive. (Though its hard)

Sending good thoughts.

Thanks - I'm not usually one of those neurotic moms. It make me more nervous because he's away from home and he's one of those that won't admit he's sick. If he were home I'd know how he was doing. I may text his girlfriend and give her the heads up...... She knows how he is.

My cousin is a chemist who works for a pharmaceutical company in Puerto Rico. His mom has pre-esisting conditions and watches her grandchildren. He advised her to buy star anise, grind it and have a cup of tea with it and drink a cup everyday. He says it will fight off the flu and that's it is used to make Tamiflu. My mom hs already started and just yesterday she gave me a package of star anise. Just passing some info.

From what I heard, people our age have a better resistance to H1N1 because of the swine flu that hit in the early 70's and other flu's since then.

I put a bottle of hand sanitizer in my car and use it after touching money, ATM keys, and other surfaces. Also heard that the virus can live on a hard surface for 2 to 8 hours. It can live on paper and money for 2 weeks.

Cabbie didn't want to take my money after coughed (into pit of my elbow) at the end of the ride.

My ex wipes, and not just since Swine Flu, money with alcohol when she gets home.

Got the sanitizer gels in my purses and am actually remembering to use them.

This is one thing to be seriously aware of! I used to assume "underlying conditions" meant something serious, like a person on chemo. NOT this time: it means mild asthma, pregnancy, being a teenager, just...little things.

One thing I have noticed is people who wash their hands and are careful forget something: they wash their hands, then open store doors, put away the shopping cart, pull out the keys, touch the steering wheel...be sure to have handi-wipes or something in the car, too, and wipe down the surfaces you touch in there a lot, and even your keys.

I use the baby wipes when I have nothing else, but there are these wipes that come in a tube or handy carrying packs, I think called "Handi-wipes". Maybe they're local? There must be a version where you are. Lots of our stores out here have installed wipe dispensers by the carts now, but I prefer my own...

Which is exactly the way we were taught in nursing school. Turn the faucet of with the paper towel.

One little problem that come up, tho, is all those places where there are NO paper towels. Only the crappy blow dryer. Now, if the faucets were all the type that are motion-driven, that would not be such a problem, but most still have the old-fashioned kind that you have to use the handle.

And, another thing is the placement of wastebaskets. There should be one near the door so you can take a towel w/you, use that to open the door (to protect you from those who do NOT wash their hands) and then place it in a wastebasket right there.

Maybe I'll write the CDC. Since there are many people who think the government should think for us, and mandate how we live, etc., perhaps they will make a law where there will always be the option of paper towels, and to place a waste receptacle near the door. Good grief, that would be one of the cheapest mandates in all the world!!!! Install a couple of paper towel holders and place another receptacle in each bathroom. The biggest cost would be the towels, but that can't be more than running those stupid dryers.

Linda Kenney Baden is Ron Kuby's "guest" on InSessions right now. Sorry, I didn't stop to watch her. He did introduce her as one of the lawyers on the Casey Anthony case, and as a lawyer for Phil Spector. He described the cases a bit. She was gussied up, looked pretty decent, much better than the last pics I had seen of her in the motion hearings for Casey.

If she is the best Ron Kuby can come up with, I don't know if I even want to watch him anymore, lol.

It's getting worse out here with the whole Green movement. I was in SF yesterday and had to use public bathrooms: no paper towels, the blow dryers are set to stop every 5 seconds, the faucets are set to turn themselves off in the same interval, so you have to touch every surface several times. I had to wash up then leave and get out my wipes just so I and the kids would be clean :(

If we all die it will help out the environment. Earth after people is very green.

LOL. Cast members. I think I'll use that term @ work, too. Several years ago, we also became "associates"--can't find an employee amongst us. Funny, tho, the hospital is still referred to as the "employer." Guess we need to come up with a new politically correct term for that, too.

It will also help out the national insurance thing. If we all die of H1N1 and other flu types, there will be less people to be insured. Ooops, guess that might not work out so well, there will also be less people working to pay taxes to pay for the insurance. Vicious circle, isn't it? :D

This is my little guy, Shadow. DD usually gives him his bath and haircut, but I had to do it. I sent the cell phone photo to DD. Doesn't he look thrilled?

OK - how do I get it to look like a photo and not just a link?

It will also help out the national insurance thing. If we all die of H1N1 and other flu types, there will be less people to be insured. Ooops, guess that might not work out so well, there will also be less people working to pay taxes to pay for the insurance. Vicious circle, isn't it? :D

but what about all the unemployed?????!!!!! Maybe the swine flu is the way to take care of it? paranoia again bob

It's here!!!!!http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys/smiley-sick005.gif (http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys.php)

People on the third floor and people on the first floor of my building are sick with the bug. I'm on the second floor. A co-worker is taking her teenage daughter to the doctor because she's been sick since Friday.

I think we should all wear those bubble suits. I can't afford to be sick...I have no one to take care of me. I can't let my mother get sick. Gator would have gotten me my meds but Mac, he'd eat them himself and then I'd have more strange poop to clean while I'm throwing up. The cats, well, they will just swat me on the head. I will not get sick...I will not get sick. http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys/smiley-sad056.gif (http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys.php)

Just thought of it - I had the swine flu back in 1970, when I was a kid. Maybe I have some immunity to it. My mom had it too. That is the only time I have ever seen her really sick enough to stay in bed. The doctor made house calls back then. I will not get sick...

Read an article today that said that. If you had the swine flu in the 70's you may have the immune thing going for you

DD and I went for a walk. She was in KC for a month or so w/friends
and got into the habit of walking. She's a tad bit hefty, and so it is
good, altho I could not get her to walk w/me before she spent that
time w/friends.

So, today on our return trip home, I stumbled on uneven sidewalk. I
remember the trip, or stub, and remember a pain in my rib, shoulder and
hand (but can't tell you what hit when.) I think I spun around or some
thing. Anyway, I have a big scrape also on my knee. I just needed a
few minutes to catch my breath. DD was asking if she needed to go to
a friend's house a couple of blocks away to get a vehicle. I managed to
get up, and as I stood up, I saw 2 fellows standing in a driveway right
where I fell!!! Not that I needed their help, but don't you think the
neighborly thing to have done was for them to at least call out to see
if we needed help? Or, walk to the end of the drive? For all they knew,
I could have lost consciousness or broken a leg.

But, all is well. I can walk, just a tad bit sore. That scrape hurts the
worst of any of it!!!!

In my med anthro class we got into a big discussion about how we would logically see more cancers as lifespan progressed because cells can only copy themselves properly for a set time in most people. We just notice it because people aren't passing from the early killers here. Not a lot of pancreatic cancer or brain cancer in Somalia. But there would be if Somalis were living to 75. example. Of course, there are also various pollutants that can speed up the process...

Oh, geesh!!!! After my fall, I picked DS up from work, walked around Dillons and took groceries to a friend, so tho't I was home free on problems from my fall. I am in PAIN if I move!!! Not so much my scraped knee (on the left) but my ribs, also on the left. But what is hurting like the dickens now is the right foot--the one that I stubbed to produce the fall. I hope 2 Aleve type pills will get me thru the night. Then, if I can make it to work tomorrow, perhaps one of the peds will prescribe me a muscle relaxant and/or pain meds. I know better than to waste money on an office visit for 2 things--the ribs and the feet. There is "nothing to do" except carry on. Years ago when I broke a rib, I had a binder of sorts, but that isn't done any more. And after having broken toes and bones in my feet half a dozen times, I KNOW they don't do anything for that!!!

Guess I will go make me up an ice pack for the foot @ least. Can't work if I can't walk. Probably will come back home even if I do make it to work, cuz if I can't lift either, I can't handle the babies. Oh, well, I have sick time available. But there goes my "credit" on evaluation for no call ins.

Awww poor Amy! Go soak in a warm tub, (Keep our knee out of the water) throw some bubble bath in too! Light a candle or two and forget about the world for a while. When you get out, have a nice cup of fancy tea, take two Bayer Aspirin (Only thing that helps me) and then, sleep. Wrap up your foot. There is aa salve called Arnica. All I know is we pay over 700 dollars a month for my health insurance. Poppa is over 65 and he opted for the part of the plan that costs him some dollars a month. Lots of costly options in that cluster F too. We're not rich.

Sara, Nawny and Gator - thanks for all the help about posting a photo. I'll try tiny pics next time. I obviously did not use that last time! LOL - I used photobucket.

Amy - I hope you are doing better today. Falls are nasty.

BoB - I think you are correct. People used to die earlier of things like high blood pressure/diabetes/heart disease that are now much more easily controlled. Hence most people are living longer and eventually get some form of cancer. My dr. was telling me that the 1 in 8 women will get breast cancer does not take into account the number of women who do not get BC until they are in their 80's, like my grandmother. She was 86 when diagnosed and declined treatment. She lived to 95. Cancer's can be very slow growing in older people.

Our system is kinda a hybrid between public and private. A resident must join one of the four HMOS in the system (actually, there are only four HMOs in the country). The HMO must accept them, regardless of previous conditions.

Payment is through National Insurance (like Social Security) and is based on income. 5%, I think, but I have to check my payslip. No fee for kids. You can have no kids, one kids or 19 kids, but kids don't pay. Everyone with a job pays. People wo/jobs have it deducted from their welfare or old age pension or disability.

There is a maxium, but I am far from that, so I don't know what it is.

There is a "basket of services" that HMOs are required to provide, but they are free to provide more. Prescription fee's vary, but if the drug is the basket, it is pretty much token.

All HMOs offer a voluntary supplement, very low cost, and you have to be a first class idjit not to take it, esp. if you have kids.

Dental isn't included 100%, but part is. Same with glasses.

You are free to take additional private insurance.

That's it "on one foot" as we say here.

If you're talking about the supplemental medicare insurance, where you pay extra and belong to a plan (like Kaiser in my mom's case), it could be at real risk, and my mom will be hammered if they do. She'll lose her cardiologist and other doctors.

Nothing they are contemplating will help me and mine in any way, and most will hurt us.

Why can't they just fix Medicare and COBRA, and do some reform that would actually help people? Instead of destroy the best medical system in the history of the world? Then they would have fans, not frantic scared people marching on their little playground.

I knew you'd answer this. Though I don't know the specifics of BO's idea, I get the feeling our intelligence is being insulted somehow. Or is it that I have a complex? No matter what, I don't enjoy paying 700 dollars plus, a month when I'm healthy.

I think it costs even more to die in this country. My sister was in and out of hospitals for over a year. She had big time Blue Cross coverage. The cost to her was nothing, but that cost was out in space somewhere. I doubt she cared at that point. But the snafus involved in her care were unspeakable anyway.

I could start with her diagnosis, which was wrong. :cuss: She was shipped to a nursing home for physical therapy.. Ridiculous. Long painful story. She was begging to RIP. May she always. :rose:

WE've been discussing this at another place I haunt for a couple of days already.

Feh.

We're a little behind, I guess. It really only hit the major news media today, at least on the East coast.

What is happening in this society? How can people be so twisted? http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys/smiley-sad016.gif (http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys.php)

Just when you think you've heard it all....

Yes, it is sick and twisted but no more sick and twisted than when a father does the same thing to his daughter. The crime is the same and the punishment should be the same.:flamemad:

I agree deacon! Seems sometimes, it is not mentioned but women are perps too. Well, for sure we know they are capable of murdering their kids. This woman just murdered her son's soul. It probably happens a lot more than we think. It's a subject I'd like to change, but it's reality. More attention should be paid to this.

When ya think about it, the embarrassment young girls feel when they are being molested is horrid and for that reason many perps go un-traced. Imagine a young boy's embarrassment when it's his own mother??? I wonder how many men have had this experience and it turned them into monsters. We've all seen famous murderers who wanted only female victims?

Just watched one on that program, Woman Who Kill the other night. She wanted to kill her mother repeatedly. OMG, it was so obvious. I understand it and I don't.

:rose:

That sucks, Nawny. Seems people who want to go aren't helped, people who don't want to go aren't helped. Problem is, I don't trust the government to fix it. Hell, they could try to pass a law banning puppy beating and I am sure something would be wrong with it. I have absolutely zero trust in Congress as a whole these days. That's why I want them to do nothing: imo, they are a collective group of idiots and they will eff it up. They will eff everything up.

I get a little heated on this. I am carefully not being as expressive as I am at home about this. :)

I got a letter today from the Tax Assessors office. You won't believe this!
Regarding a property we own in the city. It is a two story, 2 family house.

This letter is so ridiculous we were laughing till we cried as poppa read it out loud to me tonight.

It starts with:

Tyler CLT is currently assisting the city Assessor ti verify all property characteristics as required by law. The verified data will be used for the 12/31/09 property reassessment. A representative for Ty;er Technologies CLT Division attempted to inspect your property but was unable to verify the interior information's. Please contact and return forms to the address above by August 14, 2009. (WE GOT THIS LETTER TODAY> Sept 15, 2009. STRIKE ONE!

Next: Sales information
Sale date 7-17-07 .......................................$330.000
Sake date7-17-07.........................................$154.00 0

So it sold twice in one day ....??????????

Next blunder:

Number of units 2
Style 5 family ?????????????? WTF? How can a 2 unit house be a 5 family house?
Year built 1920
Story height 3 Story... WOW!
Attic None
Total rooms 20 .... Them's some good drugs huh?
Total bedrooms 10 ... I can't take it! LMAO!

This house is a two family with 5 room apartments on each floor. They got the address right. Must have been a good guess. I'm wondering how we inherited 15 more rooms. Maybe the house fairies built it up since we saw it last?

I also want to know who sold it after we bought it. It apparently happened on the same day. I don't know where we were when that happened. I think we came right home after the closing. ROTFL!!! I want to frame this letter.

Scary huh?

I guess it's a good thing the law requires them to "verify"! Maybe you can claim whatever they think you have. On the other hand, better straighten them out! Can you imagine how much higher the taxes will be?!

I like it when you get heated. LOL! You are so full of information and I always interrogate people like you. It saved me tons of college tuition. As for politics. I know they have been based on greed since before King Henry whacked off all those femina heads. I'd like to be able to understand exactly what Obama wants, for starters.

I walked though my sister's illness with less faith in the system than I had before and that was little. I had a few moments of questioning God during the worst of it. She was so tortured and it was so unnecessary. All they had to do was make her comfortable, not give her physical therapy because Blue Cross paid for it. She certainly did not belong in a nursing home ,per her doctor's orders.

But my sister's and I planned her escape and got her out. We flew her to Florida for a few months so she could enjoy her cottage there after they gave her the death sentence. Just the same we made her laugh and she smiled a lot. I even gave her a perm, and she liked it! :) But the hospital got her again and they ran their numbers on her, then she went to hospice where they drugged her into a coma. During her last hospital stay the powers that be actually wanted to send her back to the nursing home.. They decided against it when we told them to rethink it. Doctors don't like big grouchy families..

RIP Lu you done good sis! :rose:

Exactly. It looks to me, like they made the whole thing up. And that's cool, except, they made a house that couldn't possibly exist. I still want to know how a 2 unit house can be a five family house.. Hmm, maybe they come from Cambodia. They like to triple up in living space over there. The funniest part is, there was a picture of the house printed on the letter. Hello? Knock knock..

It's scary what goes on today. I hear at least one story every day about the goof ups in this state. Today a woman went to poppa's office to get a car insured that had been in an accident and wanted him to back date the policy. He had some choice words for her. :cuss: He asked her to leave the building ASAP.

He's so rude. :D

And they want to run medical care! I wonder how many appendixes they will decide you have?

Oops, there I go again! :D

that is so wrong Nawny. she should hbe been at home and hospice could come in and help. I would love to have you as my sister. We took care of my dad at home which were his wishes. He never had to go to a hospital thank goodness. I really think dying wishes should be honored if possible. IMO
