This is a good example of why you need diversity (but I hate that word!) in LE. Men and women see different things, and people from different subcultures are more likely to spot when something is wrong when dealing with people from those subcultures... The campus cop said it was her "mom instinct" that told her there was a problem.

ps, one cop is from the city of Brentwood, and they are giving her a "hero" award today...

Great news:beer: I cant say enough about them :rose: You are right tho Bob re: diversity (for lack of a better word) I hope they get lots of press.

Thinking of you today Nawny. I hope u are doing something fun :rose:

Thank you Bree. I'm good. I cooked all morning and sat outside for a while with a book. Coincidental it's called "Without Conscience" Amazing reports on psychopaths. Sounds an awful lot like Liar. Hmmm, socio/psychopath. Big similarities. Interesting. Here's the list of symptoms:

Glib
Superficial
Egocentric
Grandiose
Lack remorse and guilt
Lack of Empathy
Deceitful
Manipulative
Shallow Emotions

The profile is so much like her!!!

According to writers, McCord and McCord who wrote the Essay on the Criminal Mind:

The total pattern of the psychopath personality differenciates him from normal criminal. His aggression is more intense, his impulsivity is more pronounced, his emotional reactions, more shallow. His guiltlessness, however, is the crucial distinguishing trait.

The normal criminal has an internalized albiet warped, set of values. If he violates these standards, he feels guilt!

I finally GET IT! Good book for me because I couldn't understand the socio in the liar... this book makes it all so clear to me. I'm a thickhead. :hat:

It's a beautiful day here. :)

The stepfather said the missus is the one who pulled Jaycee into the car. One more nail.

OMG!!!! And she was crying in court in one of the videos. Damn her!
And the main question in my mind is, why didn't Jaycee call the police. The poor child went thru puberty in that mans captivity and her life was literally taken. Not like Liar said hers was taken, Jaycee's was REALLY taken. Her poor mind! Good grief.. that is sad. :(

Is there a thread on this case? I didn't see one. :( That's okay we got Anything here.

There are people like that. Even some parents get ticked for calling their kids by a shortened name. DS's name is 7 letters. He sure hated spending all that time writing his name, so he signed his papers with the 3 letter shortened version. His preschool teacher was concerned, told me that he wasn't signing his "name." I told her, he can be called by whatever name he wants. If he wants to use 3 letters instead of 7, I have no problem with that. What was the big deal, anyway? It wasn't like he was signing "Superman" or "Darth Vader" or something outlandish, for Pete's sake!!!

I have been called by the names of various and sundry people I have worked with. It has never bothered me--I knew who they were talking to, lol!!! The name I go by IS a nickname. Some of my co-workers call me Amy Lou, where Amy Jane would be more in line w/my name. But it's all in fun, and no one where I work now seems to take offense when a co-worker comes up with a nickname. I think there are more gripping issues in the world to deal with than what someone calls me, lol!!!!

No matter what our kids and the new generation think about us. We are AWESOME !!!!
OUR LIFE IS LIVING PROOF !!!!

To Those of Us Born between

1930 - 1979

At the end of this email is a quote of the month by
Jay Leno. If you don't read anything else, please

Read what he said.

Very well stated, Mr. Leno.

I love this one. It's been around the internet for a while and I got it again today, thought I'd share it!:seeya:

TO ALL THE KIDS WHO SURVIVED THE
1930's, 40's, 50's, 60's and 70's!!
First, we survived being born to mothers who smoked and/or drank
While they were pregnant.

They took aspirin, ate blue cheese dressing, tuna from a can and didn't get tested for diabetes.

Then after that trauma, we were put to sleep on our tummies in baby cribs covered
With bright colored lead-base paints.

We had no childproof lids on medicine bottles, locks on doors or cabinets and when we rode our bikes, we had baseball caps not helmets on our heads.

As infants & children, we would ride in cars with no car seats, no booster seats, no seat belts, no air bags, bald tires and sometimes no brakes.

Riding in the back of a pick- up truck on a warm day was always a special treat.

We drank water from the garden hose and not from a bottle.

We shared one soft drink with four friends, from one bottle and no one actually died from this.

We ate cupcakes, white bread, real butter and bacon. We drank Kool-Aid made with real white sugar. And, we weren't overweight. WHY?
Because we were always outside playing...that's why!

We would leave home in the morning and play all day, as long as we were back when the streetlights came on..

No one was able to reach us all day. And, we were OKAY.

We would spend hours building our go-carts out of scraps
And then ride them down the hill, only to find out we forgot the brakes.
After running into the bushes a few times, we learned to solve the problem

We did not have Play stations, Nintendo's and X-boxes. There were no video games, no 150 channels on cable, no video movies or DVD's,
No surround-sound or CD's, no cell phones, no personal computers,
No Internet and no chat rooms.

WE HAD FRIENDS and we went outside and found them!

We fell out of trees, got cut, broke bones and teeth and there were no lawsuits from these accidents.

We would get spankings with wooden spoons, switches, ping pong paddles, or just a bare hand and no one would call child services to report abuse.

We ate worms and mud pies made from dirt, andthe worms did not live in us forever.

We were given BB guns for our 10th birthdays, made up games with sticks and tennis balls and, although we were told it would happen, we did not put out very many eyes.

We rode bikes or walked to a friend's house and knocked on the door or rang the bell, or just walked in and talked to them.

Little League had tryouts and not everyone made the team.
Those who didn't had to learn to deal with disappointment. Imagine that!!

The idea of a parent bailing us out if we broke the law was unheard of. They actually sided with the law!

These generations have produced some of the best
Risk-takers, problem solvers and inventors ever.

The past 50 years have been an explosion of innovation and new ideas..

We had freedom, failure, success and responsibility, and we learned how to deal with it all.

If YOU are one of them, CONGRATULATIONS!

You might want to share this with others who have had the luck to grow up as kids, before the lawyers and the government regula ted so much of our lives for our own good.

While you are at it, forward it to your kids so they will know how brave and lucky their parents were.

Kind of makes you want to run through the house with scissors, doesn't it ?

I know a lot of people like that. No one called me by my real name until I graduated from college and went to work and said this is my name. I didn't care. My name is the shortened version of a longer name. People will call me the longer version and I respond. My boss laughs when they do it.

My DD has a quirk - if you know her you can use her shortened name, if not call her by her full name. My son only uses the shortened version of his name.

I use what people call me for screening calls. Those who are telemarketers and such, use my given name, and usually butcher it to boot. I love it--a pause, then a mumble. Nope, you don't know me, you want to sell me something I don't need!!!! Those calls, I don't answer. Anyone who knows me, and it's a social type call will use my nickname.

Both of my kids answer to the full version of their names, and the shortened versions. They also answer to about any nickname they have been given over the years. Well, Bubs (one of DS's nics) doesn't answer to Pancake anymore, lol!!!! Actually don't think he ever answered to that. That what Sis (one of DD's nics) called him when she was too young to pronounce his name. It only stuck for a couple of years, and the only ones who called him that was DD and some cousins.

We moved when he was about 4, and his new friends called him by his given name. We had a birthday party and invited the kid who used to live next door to us in town. No one could figure out who he was talking to when he called DS "Bubsy" which was HIS version of Bubs. I can just imagine my now 19 y/o son still being called Pancake. That is one nickname he probably wouldn't have put up with past pre-school, lol!!!!

I know when I teach my dance class I shorten people's names. I am not trying to be disrespectful, I just can't make individual corrections easily when I have to say Elizabeth, do this - Katherine - more snap. I currently have 4 Sue's on Monday night. They are numbered according to when they started with me I -IV. They know who they are. I cannot differentiate between Susan, Suzanne, Sue B. and Sue D. They joke about it and introduce themselves as I, II, III, and IV.

One person complained to me that she was to be called Elizabeth, nothing less. Other ladies pulled her aside and asked her how long she was on the waiting list to get in the class. She said 3 months. They replied if you want her to teach you/correct you, you better let her call you whatever she wants.

Funny story - a foreign born student started class. Comes from a background where woman do not dance (you get the idea). I welcomed her to class and asked her what her name was. It was long and difficult, but it had something in the middle that sounded a lot like Molly. I asked her if Molly would do, and she agreed. She became a regular in class and even started coming to the various social functions that people from class would invite her to. After about a year she brought a friend with her, same background. The friend asked me to give her a name that everyone could remember and pronounce. Apparently Molly felt more like a member of the group because no one stumbled over her name.

Anyway, I promise not to call you Dave.

I don't really get mad when someone shortens my name but I prefer the other version. I don't like to be called Dave. Nope, ain't my name.

I never call my son Dave. Sometimes D-boo, but never Dave. It's not his name :)

Yep people who go ballistic over their shortened names-well i guess have too much time on their hands. I say take up world hunger or any worthy cause. I was warned when this new boss came to us to make sure we use her full name. Being the smart azz i am when using her name and she is not around i tend to enunciate every bloody syllable. I must stop that as one of these days i will slip in front of her :D My sis shortened my name years ago and i am happy with Bree

I love that name, Bree. :) I refer to you as Bree when I'm talking to poppa about something you said when I'm LMAO here at the keyboard.
I was supposed to be a Joseph so I get Joanna, and it's been changed so many times I answer to everything. Prima Donna was one of my mother's nick names for me..I was the youngest girl, and my sisters called me everything from, Miss America, to I hopeyouDIE! LOL!

The only nicknames I have are the ones my nephew and neice gave me and still call me 30 years later. My nephew calls me Eke. ( was suppose to be unk for uncle) My neice calls me boogie. (I use to call her a little buggar when she was learning to talk.) Those two are still with me and still live with my grandneice and grandnephew. Those two can get away with it.;)

Indeed! She found the fact they they were not tortured and made Jungle Janes, a good thing. They should make her define torture. Aye, perhaps being treated like a receptacle is commonplace in her book. I'm afraid Jaycee is the epitome of Stockholm Syndrome. I can understand where she had to see that POC as her only means of survival and could have even thought she loves the man.

If he is indeed the murderer of all those other young women, I'm going to venture to guess that they fought him and died for it and Jaycee cooperated in order to survive.

I'm still not sure why she didn't call the police when she obviously had opportunity. There is so much to this story. I can only speculate that the girl took pity on these folks, or they had her convinced she would die if she called LE. It's very complex and yet I just don't see her happy to be home with her own family. There could be some anger there because they didn't rescue her at 11 years old. After all, basically, she knows no other life as an adult woman but the one she had been living. This case is breaking my brain.
Those 2 psychos have to answer for this mess. It's was a soul murder.

They broke HER brain. Elizabeth Smart didn't try to get away when she had a chance, and she was only held, what, a year? And who knows what conditions she was held under when she was really little. Her first baby was born when she was 14. I bet that changed the game. Could she get away with them? People said they saw Jaycee, people said they saw the girls, but so far no one I have heard saw them all together. Now that would be power!

That bubblehead was trying to sound important. Another camera lover. She back peddled when she was reminded that he molested Jaycee for 18 years. Then she stumbles over her verbs and starts going in the other direction.

Good points. SO if she was oppressed for all those years, WOW what a new brain path that can carve in a human being. This is going to take some years to undo. IMO.

BTW, didn't one of those female cops say that one of the young girls referred to an older sister? Did those babies not know Jaycee was their mother? Or were they taught to lie since on baby food? Also, would it not have been costly for that creep to support 3 kids. He didn't seem to have much of an income. Not to say that he supported them well, but as the chooch said, "Their hair was clean." I know when I teach my dance class I shorten people's names.

LOL! Great story. :) Teach me how to dance ShadeeDee!! I love to dance but always wanted to be one of those dancers where everyone backs away and goes WOW! AWWW GREAT!!! I'd love it if all the good looking guys threw their apartment keys at me too! I'm so bad, but not as bad as Beem. Can you see her dancing in her CFM shoes? :punch:

After what you told us about your birth and the name issue, I'm surpized you don't have name issues now. ;) You're like me, call me anything. I know who I am. I'm the one with the rolling pin.

I won't call you dave either.

Some of the ones I get on the work site I can not say. Even in Spanish. I think I have been cussed out in three at least now.

I can't imagine what it would sound like hearing someone talk Spanish with a southern accent deacon. OH! I forgot. You don't have an accent. I do ;)

I get self concious sometimes when people pick up on my east coast accent. One of my dear friends, (now deceased) always made fun of my accent. She was from Connecticut where they really pronounce their "R's.

She got me to throw an R in, parking lot, Car, Fart, Market, and lots of other nice words. But I revert back to my inborn ways. When I was having lunch with Gator and her mom, and her mom smiled and said, "I miss that accent, since I've been out of NY for so many years." LOL! It made me very aware of my R's because I forget. That was a cute moment with Gators mom. :)

Naw, we both do. Mine isn't as bad as some around here. My first grade teacher was about 25 and from Maine. She went to the office crying after the first day because we couldn't understand her and she couldn't understand us. She was such a cool teacher though. We all worked through it. We got where we could understand her and she could understand us. My favorite teacher. She was diagnosed with brain cancer toward the end of the year and died shortly afterward. When the class found out we all cried. Yep, the boys too. This is for her.:rose:

It is from the incident this year when a boat went over the falls and the "official" rescuers couldn't reach the people by boat. A nearby construction crew swung their crane around over the water, and this guy slung himself up and rescued the lady. Probably a violation of every safety rule huh, deacon?

Danny's birthday is almost over, for this year. I just want to thank all of you for holding my hand through this one. I think you all know what grief is like, and I am more than sure your own our hearts are pretty much taped together from some of the suffering put upon you at one time or another. I've always known I am not alone, because suffering does not discriminate and nothing protects anyone from sorrow. Many of us have been shaken to pieces. But this year, on Danny's birthday, because of all your kind words, today was not so harsh.

I don't know how to say thank you because it is a gift of such great proportions! Just know, you helped. Talking about Danny does not make me sad. Reading well wishes and beautiful prayers for him, makes me happy. My only wish is that you all could have known him. He loved life and he talked to everyone he saw. His smile was infectious and his laughter resounds in my head every day.

His problems in later life were too much for him to cope with, and he chose to go home where we all know, there are no tears, just peace, and a kind of joy some of us cannot know here. We as his family continue his story and thank him for coming to us. Like Beem says, "It's all good"

There are some things I can't know, but I know this: LOVE. Come from that point, and all things are manageable.

Thank you all!:rose:

It was but, in this situation, the safety rules would have to go out the window. Only thing I would have aske him to do was tie himself off to the cable above the headache ball.

I would simply tell the OSHA Inspector to hush, I'll talk to you after this is over with. The operator is not working and the guy on the headache ball is not working. They quit a few minutes ago and we will hire them back just as soon as the finish what they are doing. They will be punished with a big bonus and a steak dinner and then they will be allowed to come back to work. Possibly with a raise.

After further review of the picture, he is tied off above the headache ball. Hmmm we have to increase the raise a bit.

Hi DrewB! I didn't catch the post about Loretta's dad but I send my prayers too her and to you. I think I've reached a point where I can let go of some of the people I love that can't be helped, or won't be. It's a ton of work to change what we've always been. Most people don't want to change. Some are like children who have only known dependency. It's hard to force them to help themselves. Like they say in NYC, it doan woik!

Your mom sounds angry as hell. It's not your fault. That problem most likely started before you were born. THe Black Sheep blame themselves for everything, until with the help of love, they stop. It's a very hard statement to say to those we are supposed to love: "I don't like that person.!" But hey, it beats becoming a victim forever.

Oh and just another point to ponder on the Jaycee case. Most victims become so dependant on their captors for survival they do develop bonds over time. Another horrible element for these poor victim's to move past. I cant imagine what this family is going to go thru in the years to come. I know they have been compared to other victim's and TH's discussing how they over came. No comparasin in my opine. I doubt Jaycee even remembers who she was and that time in her life with her family. As far as the children go most other victims have had some form of prior socialization, formal education etc. etc. They have missed so many critical periods they will never catch up. I hope love is enought to sustain them here on earth. I fear for all 3 but pray for a good outcome :rose:

Awww Nawners we know u are bad to the bone;) Or should i say rolling pin:D

Me too Beem. It can go either way. Jaycee could become terrified of all relationships and have Zero trust in people... or she could have developed extraordinary empathy for all those victims of abuse and be an advocate for them in years to come. She seems to have been a very special spirit with a kind of survivor's instinct rare and strong. Some humans have a blueprint at birth that has some kind of love equity nothing can destroy. I worry about those 3 victims and the fallout from this monster. Both monsters. How dare they do this to children. It's unbelievable! And yet.....

I'll get a rope and the gun. Anyone know where we can find a strong oak tree? I have no use for the dregs of the septic tank like this one.:flamemad:

I don't know if it's oak, but the tree standing in the folks' yard is plenty sturdy, holds Mom's swing bench. Several of us more hefty kids can sit on it together, and the bough doens't break. It's even out in the middle of no-where, you wouldn't need to worry much about attracting attention, unless ya want to.

My friend is named Babette. I had a boyfriend for a while who nicknamed her "bab*tch". He didn't last long after that. She nicknamed him "The Rodent"

I understand why they did not like their nics.

Growing up, my brother was known as Bobby. When he got to high school age, many people wanted to shorten it to Bob. HE started going by the name Robert. Didn't want Bob, it rhymed w/Slob and he didn't want to go there!!! It took a few years (us older kids were already out of the house) for us to get to the point of calling him Robert. He put up w/the occasional slip of Bobby, but after 40 years, most of us don't even remember "Bobby."

A sister named Mary sure hated the shortened version "Mare" --but I notice she uses that in an email addy, lol.

I bet they will react like families with a nasty divorce in the family, and consider the kids totally theirs. "The kids are US, the enemy is THEM" I've seen that a lot.

Jaycee's mom is actually a really strong person. She has always been most impressive. I bet the girls are bonding with her really well. Considering they were totally dependent on the Freak I bet they are kind of programmed to transfer that dependence to another, and she would be a good option, imo. Then they can begin to be weaned off...

A lot of what is called "road trash" in this business. They travel around working short term shut downs. They can not stay long in one place because of their work habits and other habits they have. Either not showing up for work after about a month or the random drug tests will get them every time. These are the ones who give construction workers a bad name. I, most of the time, can spot them from a mile away. They always have an attitude that they are better than everyone else and that the company, which ever one they are working for, owes them something because they are so great. Most of them live at least two paychecks ahead and always spend more than they make. Dope is expensive, yep it is.

Perhaps she and Steven Staynor had something else in common. He pretty much did as he had to, to survive, too. But, when he saw his kidnapper start up with another victim, he decided that child would not have to go thru what HE did, and did for that one, what he seemed to not be able to do for himself.

Perhaps, the POS hadn't taken up with her "sisters," @ least that she knew of. Maybe something happened where she saw they were going to be their "dad's" next victims, or found out they already were, and knew she had to get them out of that environment.

Not to say that he supported them well, but as the chooch said, "Their hair was clean." Good LORD, they we not ever a part of society, no SS number, no schooling. Big brother wasn't even aware of them.

Gag me.. I'm all over this one.

I would imagine that they were always told Jaycee was their sister. Same as when any new baby comes into the home. If she was only ever referred to as "Sister" in their presence, that is who they would know her as.

He's lucky they seem to be quite healthy. The cost is reduced considerably if you don't have any medical bills, pharmacy bills. No education related bills, fees for the YMCA, etc. Didn't even have to worry about spending much on clothing, pick something up @ a garage sale, the thrift store, etc. Whatever his mortgage/rent, utility and electric bills he would have had to pay anyway. Didn't look like the camp ground accommodations would add much to the utility type bills.

The th sounds as ridiculous as Jaynie Weitreb (whatever.) Absolutely stupid sounding stuff because, as defense th's, they have to try to come up w/something in their "defense." I hope they actually watch the videos of their appearances--and get sick to their stomachs and hide their heads in embarrassment of the carp they come up with. It has to sound lame to themselves, doncha think? When that is all you can come up w/in the way of defense of these POS's, then you know you have nothing to hang your hat on. IMO

I would simply tell the OSHA Inspector to hush, I'll talk to you after this is over with. The operator is not working and the guy on the headache ball is not working. They didn't know. I heard they found out yesterday she wasn't their big sister.

Apparently the printing business started doing well once Jaycee began taking the orders.

I can't remember which board it was on, but one poster was saying that the printing business can bring in a few dollars. Over $100 for 25 cards, the kind you put in wedding invitations, and the poster was inviting a hundred or so people to the daughter's wedding. I don't know the prices the POS was charging, but sounds like he could have been making enough to keep above water. That is, if he wasn't spending it all on his "church." Cuz it didn't sound like he had too many followers, and congregation donations are what most churches survive on.

As far as I can tell, no congregation at all. As for the business, quite a few customers have been interviewed and all raved about what a good account manager Jaycee was. Of course, they knew her as Alissa. But its good to know she has skill to get a job in the future, if someone will give her a chance...which most would around here...

We have several folks origionally from the NY area, and some Canadian nurses. It's not blatant, but there are times when you KNOW they aren't Midwest born, lol. Garage, apricot, about. They all sound just a little...different, ya know!!!

I am Kansas, born and bred, yet people are just sure I am an Okie!!! This is even from people who have lived in the same area as I have, forever. Going to school, there was another gal that everyone tho't was from OK, too. Well, we both were raised pert near the OK stateline, but I don't know why they would say that about us, and not our siblings and classmates, who were raised right along with us!!!

Mom's relatives that still live in the MI area--they not only have an odd accent, they talk so fast you about need an interpreter to follow what they are saying!!!

When my grandfather was cut off by a bad driver or some such shenanigans, he would yell about them being an "Okie from Fenokie!"...I still have no idea why that was insulting...but based on the context, it was the worst thing he could say in my grandmother's presence...

Just randomly, I would like to share one of my favorite news photos ever. It is from the incident this year when a boat went over the falls and the "official" rescuers couldn't reach the people by boat. A nearby construction crew swung their crane around over the water, and this guy slung himself up and rescued the lady. Probably a violation of every safety rule huh, deacon?

Is there anything more beautiful than a hero?

See, now THIS is a hero!!! And all the soldier men and women. And the cops and firefighters. All the other regular folk who put their lives on the line in order to save the life of another, like this fellow.

I spit nails when I hear people call (or see in articles) "superstars" of cinema and sports "heroes." Go ahead, call them superstars, but leave the hero part off. Swinging a bat or running down a football field or giving an unforgettable performance on stage or screen has NOTHING to do w/heroism. Nothing @ all. :flamemad:

Just don't want to make it too close to where we buried Shana. Not a sister, but a lovely black lab. We buried her there 19+ years ago, traveling 90 miles to do so. Tho't we'd put her where we all call "home." No matter where any of us moved, Shana would be "with family." As we were moving the folks' stuff out of their house last week, it dawned on us--strangers might be living there. And there is the probablity that the place will be razed, and her grave be plowed over.

Oh, well, she is in our hearts, it's only a toy box w/a favorite blanket there in the ground. We have pictures to warm the cockles of our hearts. That's all we really need.

But, I digress. I am sure the cesspool will be an easy dig. And about the right environment for the likes of them.:flamemad:

It's evaluation time @ work. The supervisor gave me mine the other day, and the end result was "exceeds" altho there were a couple of places that only "met" expectations. So, I figure, if I keep my nose clean, my mouth shut, and show up to work every day, I am good for another year!!! lol The hardest part for me is to keep my mouth shut. That's why I wonder if something hadn't already happened--they are 11 and 14 or 15? The youngest just the age Jaycee was when she was kidnapped. So, one would wonder if he hasn't already introduced them into the world of sex, or should I say rape. Perhaps, if it has been going on, she just realized it, or acknowledged it, or maybe it took her some time to figure out just how to get them out.

I agree w/others that it is going to be a long row to hoe for this family. Even if the environment was a hell hole, it's the only environment they knew. He is their dad, and what loyalty to they have for Mr and Mrs POS? Did they call her mom? (Mrs POS, that is.) They have a whole new way of living in a family to adjust to, to say nothing of being with the rest of society, which might be overwhelming for them. While they may have had contact w/others, it certainly was limited, from what I could tell.

It sounds like Jaycee did get help for them on her own I'm behind on my reading; did she?

I'm not sure what all happened. It seems the situation was started w/the Berekly (sorry, a campus) cop who tho't the girls were acting strange. Cops went to the house, where I understand the business is run from. I suppose, when questioned, is when "Alissa" admitted to the police that she is Jaycee. I haven't read that much on it, but wonder if she said that right up?

It's not exactly like the E Smart situation, where she had been gone only 9 months (certainly that is a long time, but in comparison w/Jaycee) and people recognized her, and she first said she isn't who they tho't she was, she wasn't that Elizabeth Smart person. I am sure the police who went to that house wouldn't have recognized her as the missing 11 y/o from 18 years ago.

I haven't looked here, but I am pretty sure there is a forum for her on another board. If I read thru that from the beginning, I'm sure the info of exactly what went down that she told them who she is will be there. Probably links with police pc's, too. I have to leave town pretty soon, but have all day tomorrow to look around.

(Ooo multi quote worked! That's a first!)

Yes Amy, I understand exactly what you mean, Beem too. I see those children as kids who had an abusive father, but when the father dies or is taken from them, they feel no relief, even if he abused them. They feel grief.

Their ages have to be a huge trigger for Jaycee too. I'm not evolved enough to know what will happen in this case, but I do know from experience, they have to process it until they can find a way to move on and live some semblance of normal lives.

This is definitely a text book case and will be a spring board for students to learn, in medical school. These kids are going to be the sacrificial lambs for understanding and examination of the psychology of the result of sexual, mental, and physical abuse. What a horrid intrusion of innocence. IMO Will the world ever comprehend it all?

Edit: The multi quote didn't work. I can't seem to get it to work. Hmmm, and I want to understand this case, yeah right!

We'll dance at the virtual birthday party! Do I need to come up with a pole dance routine? I don't currently have one in my repertoire, but give me 24 hours and I could pull one together.

I'll bring the rope and the only thing else we will need is a chair to kick out from under them. Sorry, I have no patience or empathy for people of this ilk. Hey, I can probably bring a backhoe too to dig the hole.

I have the perfect tree. I can use the backhoe for another project? Since you'd already be there I might as well do that project I was thinking about. Besides, it's the perfect cover.

While they may have had contact w/others, it certainly was limited, from what I could tell.

IMO

I hear you Amy. Why are they pleading innocent? It has to be based on their take on the remarkable religion this guy spouts. The world according to a perp, once again. When are these ass wipes going to stop insulting our intelligence?

You're right about the cost. It had to be minimal. True to form, this perp was in another dimension. I hope they treat this case right and he may end up under a table in the caf in jail if they let him into society there. Karma will get this pig. IMO

I make sure I have my keister in there to work every day I'm scheduled, even when I'm not liking my job so much. Everyday I tell myself, "At least YOU have a job in a time when you hear so many have lost theirs. Get yourself to work and act like you are pleased to be there!!!!"

I have opinions, and can be quite vocal about them, if you can believe that, lol. ;)

Nahhh. Not you. (or any of the rest of us) That was a good evaluation, congrats. Some of these people are not so smart.

Oh yes deac! My pet peeve has just been activated by reading your post. Poppa comes home every night with a shocking (to him) story about incompetency in the work world. It is getting worse daily. The more he asks to speak to someone with a brain, the more he knows they are fewer and fewer.

Example. At his agency he offers Bill Paying. (Utilities) THis is a convenience in the south part of Providence RI because it is a poor area and many do not drive or have check books etc..

One client came in yesterday for insurance and told poppa he called the utility company for the address of a local bill paying service and got the name of his agency. Poppa was formally located on a street named, Broad St, while waiting for his tenant to leave his building on Elmwood. The clerk gave the man the street name to pay his utility bills as, Broadway, which is a street 3 miles away. The poor guy reported searching Broadway, couldn't find it, and it was coincidence that he found utility payments accepted at the insurance office.

Well, needless to say (if you know poppa) he went off like a rocket. He called the utility people and told them to stop doing that to people and give the correct address. The clerk said, oh, they'll change it and wanted to end the conversation.. not! Poppa asked, Well, who are THEY? She said, well sir, it's not up to me. Then he said, Well, if you're not going to get off your ass, give me the phone number of THEY.

After several tries, he gets the supervisor who heard his story and poppa was assured the address will be changed ASAP. But not before he told the man, (who was smart enough not to get cocky with him,) that the clerk he spoke to needed to get a brain. And that she should not answer the phone there.

His agents were all listening to him and holding their heads He is 3 doors down the hall in his office and they heard him. When he told me the story, I said, You need to stop swearing at those people. He said, They need to start working and stop shirking off their responsibilities. They are paid to serve the GD public, and my swearing is less offensive than what they're doing. I don't give a GD what they think of me.

He's making friends, as we say here. :cuss:

Poppa sounds about right. More people need to get back to demanding proper service, especially from people in the "service" industries. Times might be bad, and people might have less $$ to pass around, but each and every service ought to treat those people with respect and do the job needed to be done, so the people who DO have money will continue to put it in their coffers. Of course, the utility people probably don't concern themselves with that all that much. Each address is assigned a utility, and people don't have the option of saying, "I'm firing XYZ utility for poor service and am going to sign on with ABC!!"

I really do try to watch my step, really. After being there forever (38 years this August 2) I know that no one is indespensible, that one can be gone in a heartbeat if the administration feels an infraction is serious enough.

Even in times when we are short of staff, and I mean REALLY, REALLY short of staff, there have been people who have been fired. Even those who have been there for some period of time.

I also realize that, every time the organization "restructures" that, if they are looking for people to let go, those in the highest wage bracket would be looked @ carefully, cuz we see in so many industries where the highest paid are let go or forced to "retire" cuz it is financially better to be paying the newbies.

I feel "safe" enough in the moment, but know I have to toe the line and behave myself to continue on. Performance and skills are really kind of a small part of the eval, anyway. Lots of emphasis on people skills, communication skills, and attendance @ meetings and participation on committees (most of which are useless wastes of time, most do not accomplish much, but to remain accredited, there are requirements to have committees to address various and sundry issues. Whether or not they are valid issues is in the eye of the beholder, but one must do what one must do to remain accredited!!!);)

You know, I was thinking, maybe the key to you finding work is not to search as thousands of others do..let it fall in your lap! By this, I mean I have gotten offers on my e mail and have seen ads by Google..they are looking, and have been, for people to work at home from their computers.

I don't know what it entails, but it might be something totally worth checking out...making money from home, the freedom to do what you need to (to make $) and the convenience of being on your puter! In your jammies, a cup of java, and you can pee whenever you need to! LOL!

I thought of you in your safety field when I read this and saw the pics. A competitor of my company's was transporting a turbine from NY to India. It made it to India and was on a 128 wheel truck with 14 people on board. The bridge collapsed, the turbine is in the river and four people are dead. No one at who was in charge of logistics ever checked to find out if the bridge could support the weight of the truck, people and turbine.

that would be my favorite OS. but the ones that are advertised all want money up front to "start". I lost 200.00 and some people have lost up to 2000.00. I am getting a list of people who do employ for that however. good idea. A dream idea for me.........sara

And once you get that list, google them all, and then google them by their address alone. Some fraudulent ones change their name but not their address. (oops, one corporation is defunct, now we start another one!). That may help you weed out any that might be not good.

good luck!

Sara,

Have you thought about working in a temp agency for a while? That's how my company hires most of its non-engineering employees. Sort of gives them a test run. I been here almost 23 years now and that's how I started.

That is a really good idea! I have a friend who went that route, was often offered permanent positions, but she decided she liked the variety of temping.

We have free rights in California, and were always warned some states don't allow that, but don't know which? When I drive out of state, I just don't do it just in case.

You want to hear a confession? We have our beloved lab Siggy still in a box, unburied, because I don't want to bury him in his backyard, and then sell the house, and have someone landscape and disturb him :( So he's hidden in a cupboard. I just don't know what to do. I thought of putting his ashes in the base of a birdbath or something and pouring concrete in, then we could take it with us...do you think that 's a good idea? Or weird and we should just bury him in his backyard?

All of our temps have closed up. they said that they had to many unemployed and not enough jobs. the one building is on my street and there is a for rent sign on it. gotta love it. I am still pushing for OS suggestion of working at home. thanks for the suggestion. I appreciate all suggestions. sara

:cuss:

Ah yep, he's a river to his people. :hat:

Ah yes, winning friends and infuencing people.

I can top that. I had my brother's ashes for 5 years while I waited for my dad to pass. then we buried his and dad's ashes with Mom in a sand dune we all loved and used to live by. It is in my town still and I can drive down the street and wave hi to them. Truthfully BOB there is no time limit. I used to yak at my brother in a box all the time. You will find the place.

Hi Deacon :seeya:

I thought of you in your safety field when I read this and saw the pics. A competitor of my company's was transporting a turbine from NY to India. It made it to India and was on a 128 wheel truck with 14 people on board. The bridge collapsed, the turbine is in the river and four people are dead. No one at who was in charge of logistics ever checked to find out if the bridge could support the weight of the truck, people and turbine.

gator

Sorry, Duh. The general contractor here is bringing in a turbine and has been planning the route for almost 6 months. They have involved the state and everybody.

It comes down to when you do your thinking. Is it think,do or is it do,think? I prefer to think, do myself. So many of these tragedies could have been avoided if people would put the think in front of the do.

We had that experience. One of ours, a chow named Buddy, died at age 13 and we buried him in the side yard in a wooded area. After we sold the house we felt pretty upset about it. We still do if we talk about him. We should have put his ashes in the ocean and let his body go back to the earth that way. That would have been beautiful.

He's romping near the rainbow bridge now, doesn't need his body that he used for earth. He adored Poppa because he rescued him from an abandoned car lot next to his office building. He used chain cutters to get him and he lived with us for many years. He was red. Beautiful temperament. (For a chow) My friends and neighbors used to wish they lived in his shoes, he ate better than most people. Poppa spoils the piss out of dogs.

But then we'd have to see his ashes...

and then there's my grandmother and uncle hidden in my mother's dining room hutch. She refuses to do anything about them. Like it makes them still alive or something. She wouldn't put a marker on my dad's grave either...freaked out when she visited and there was one. His brother put it in, thought maybe she couldn't afford it.

I liked the painting when I first saw it, Nawny. Now after looking it over and considering your comments for a while, I decided I like it even more than I did at first. I think lavender and yellow are very peaceful and nurturing colors. There is also something about the angle the flowers bloom that is very effective, almost as if they flow from the woman and child.

If I could be so bold, I think you should do a floating type frame, if you choose to frame it, because otherwise you will lose that tiny bit of grasses and sky just above the pair. But it would look fine simply hung unframed on the wall.

Go to livestrong.com it's a site Lance Armstrong is associated with. They have lots of links about the Mediterranean diet-I'm really impressed! (you can also track your food and stuff there. It is like an OCD sufferers dream!)

Laughing my head off! LOL!

I have tried those kinds of OCD sites. I'm too undisciplined. I'm a free spirit OCD'er and probably dyslexic. I keep forgetting which side I'm on.

But at the end of the day, I know (because I'm old and learned) that if I want to lose 10 pounds, all I have to do is stop doing what I do that makes me gain weight. It's so simple. I can cook chicken soup or fried chicken. I can order baked fish no fries instead of Fish& Chips, and I can eat a small amount of pasta and a lite antipasto, instead of gorging my face with 2 heaping dishes of spaghetti with melted cheese. See? It's just no fun. :(

You have a better excuse than I do. You have a couple of little weebs. You'll take it all off. I had 4 and it all came off after a couple of years. When I was 26 I had my 4th baby and by age 31, I was back in a size 5. It melts because they work the fat right off. When they are teens, it melts more. Trust me. Then when you reach menopause, it comes back.

I never knew how to diet, I'm learning now. It's amazing.

Ya know you are making me think. For many years I've suffered with bad headaches. I've been the gamut of possible cures, from Acupuncture, Ibu, Bayer, and every over the counter product they sell. I've been to the ear doctor, eye doctor, dentist, and recently had a brain scan. And, to make it worse, my weebles are set up in the studio with their own easels. Thank you BoB. I have to go read up on this. (The weebs don't use my paint, they use the kiddie water paints)

Being 59 which is young by today's standards, I've also been noticing forgetfulness. Could that be the paint? Hmmm, maybe that's what drove van gogh nuts.

Thank you LHD! :) I read up on it last night and it claims it is an very strong antioxidant. People are starting to get it, re: the herbs. SO many Dr's are over medicating people. It's incredible! Two people have told me recently that their doctors suggested Fish Oil for high cholesterol. I was so glad to hear that. It is also great for arthritis. I started taking it a couple of winters ago and it works. Poppa is very well read on the subject of herbs. My kids say he's going to die of nothing. ;)

There is a very good antioxidant called IP6. Created by a scientist in Japan, this herb is said to cure cancer. I know I've told the story of the guy in Florida that Poppa helped with this. The claim is that cancer cannot live in Alkaline conditions and this IP6 fixes that. So if Acai berry is claiming to be a strong anti oxidant, then IP6 has to be just as effective. I take it every day because my family is loaded with cancer problems. (Including myself. I had surgery on both boobs.)

I'll go read more on the acai. Thank you!

PS: We buy all our herbs online very cheap. Lot's of two forms. When I finish my coffee, I'll remember the name of the site. LOL! My brain is in the coffee.

Ooops! I remembered, We buy herbs through Swanson.com.

Thanks again.

does your trick work?

They say it does sara. The thing that makes me laugh is, with all diet supplement herbs, there is always this message in small print that tells you to eata low fat diet and exercise. Magic pill! Someone must invent that magic pill! Ya know even in our recession here, diet commercials are all the rage. There is always some study going on where they promise you that you don't have to change any of your eating habits and you will lose weight with this product or that product. They even came out with a newer, safer kind of lipo (sorta) suction where they use a laser wire that burns off the fat in the gut area.

My Daughter told me about it and all I could imagine is, they might laser a kidney or a main artery and say, whoops. It's a new procedure so they don't have enough after effect info on it. I know 2 people who had the old kind of lipo done. Their stomachs are flat but they are gaining weight everywhere else. It's said that they won't gain weight where the lipo was done.

LOL!

'Google' Google............:) I laughed when I got the e mail..I'm the most computer illiterate person they could have sent it to! (mass mailings, I'm SURE)

The trouble with that is, you can be taken for a ride. I think most of the offers are not as on the up and up. I know there are some folks who can make money from home, but you have to be careful, for sure.

No worries! I live in Western NJ - I complain about both PA and NJ drivers! Yes, we have no left turn.

 How do you all get anywhere if you just keep turning right? Sounds like going in circles to me, lol!!!

I do confess that I will go out of my way to get to a street with traffic lights to avoid having to make a left hand turn on a street that carries much traffic. Seems my sisters and DD do that also!!!! We are from very, very small town America (not a traffic light in town!!!) so the "big city" driving can cause us some anxieties!!! lol

We as Canadians can and always have been able to make a right hand turn on a red light when the coast is clear. Some states have it and some only at specific lights. I cant remember if some states still dont have it at all:shrug: I've always just done it:D

In my part of the world, right on red is permissible unless there is a sign saying you can't. Some people don't seem to care for that particular sign, tho, and tend to ignore it. :chicken:

You want to hear a confession? We have our beloved lab Siggy still in a box, unburied, because I don't want to bury him in his backyard, and then sell the house, and have someone landscape and disturb him :( So he's hidden in a cupboard. I just don't know what to do. I thought of putting his ashes in the base of a birdbath or something and pouring concrete in, then we could take it with us...do you think that 's a good idea? Or weird and we should just bury him in his backyard?

I don't know how portable bird baths with concrete in them are, but it sounds like a good idea.

I know, 20 years ago, we never dreamed of the folks' place not being "home" @ some point. Altho, we should have figured, they had moved from my actual childhood home about 40 years ago. I guess, we just always figured it would remain in the family.

OMG - you sound like me! As some of you know, DH is a vet. We usually have 5 dogs at a time. We are currently holding at 3. Anyway, we have gone through a lot of dogs over the years. DH has "his" dogs cremated, but does not get the ashes returned to him. I, on the other hand, have "my" special dog's ashes returned to me. I have 5 urns in the dining room hutch. I, too, can't decide what to do with them. I am thinking of making my own concrete pedestal and placing them all in there. I know how to do concrete and can get what I need at Home Depot. I could put my statue of St. Francis on the pedestal and when I eventually move I can take them with me.

We have jug handles. You make a right, another right, and finally a left at the light or cross street. Some left you make a right and go directly to the light or cross street, omitting the 2nd right. There is no rhyme or reason. Sometimes you have to merge, sometimes you get your own lane, sometimes there is a traffic light. We have circles, too. They are beyond explanation.

Thank you Shady. It's great to get a review. It also helps to see it on the monitor. I can see the problems with it much better. This one is so big and when I look at it in the paint room, I can't get a clear view. Sometimes I squint my eyes deliberately and it looks better.

does your trick work?

Actually, for me and a friend it does. Chromium has been shown to have an effect on blood sugar levels (which is why there is a warning for diabetics to NOT take it on the bottle). I have found that I lose weight slightly faster and gain muscle faster when I take supplements. I think it only helps those who are chromium deficient, which must be me. It's nothing dramatic, no 10 pounds a week, but it helps me. Could even be a placebo effect...but I'll take that!

Ya know you are making me think. For many years I've suffered with bad headaches. I've been the gamut of possible cures, from Acupuncture, Ibu, Bayer, and every over the counter product they sell. I've been to the ear doctor, eye doctor, dentist, and recently had a brain scan. (which was within normal range, but showed two spots conducive to migraines) Sometimes the headaches were debilitating to the point of tears. I never once thought of the paint.

I don't get his art  I wouldn't hang his paintings in someone elses house. :hat: I know, I know.. lol! His paintings scare me. I told you I don't understand art.

Hey, careful on yourself, Nawny! I actually have known oil painters who have had similar symptoms! I myself got headaches when I was doing a lot of painting. It is worth checking out maybe. And paint in a ventilated space! And I use to blend with my fingers and clean it off with turpentine. Do not be me, lol!

I read you have all the fat cells you will ever have by adolescence, so that makes sense, lol! The only thing that changes is the size of each cell. When you lose weight they shrink.

Boy, those docs have a racket, huh? Suck out the belly fat, the weight is gained in the butt, suck out the butt, then the thighs get big...Oh yeah, that's job security!

Start with coffee, preferably Peet's French roast from a bialetti espresso maker. That is my only hope this morning. I'm in the same boat. I have a 1940's linoleum floor to hand scrub (that counts as a workout, right?) It's the only way to get the porous old son-of-a-gun even close to clean. And the hubby has a pile of laundry 4 feet tall, ready to go. And I wonder why I have no time to write!

Oh, and you have a dishwasher? So do we: ME! And that doesn't work out well: there's not one clean plate in the entire house right now. I served bagels on paper towels. You'd think hubby would get the hint and clean a few?

ROaring laughing!! I remember the time I was standing , facing the water and the GG bridge was to our left some distance away. I wanted to cross it so bad. It was so beautiful to see. I never got to cross it but we went on a boat and got very close to it and it is amazing. I hate that word Amazing. I sound like an east coaster with a valley girl accent. Ahh maze ING! Anyway, it's a beautiful bridge and like when I saw the pyramids, I saw man's possibilities. California is so rich with nature and art I enjoyed being there. RI looked so dingy after that trip.

At this point, I figure just wait and put everybody together some day. Is that legal? aaargh.

I think, once the ashes are turned over to the family, they are free to do whatever they wish with them. Mix 'em all together, and the family remains together for eternity, so to speak. Some families would like that, others, maybe not so much. "Don't mix me w/Uncle Joe!!! I did NOT like him when he was live, I WON'T like him when we are all dead and gone!!!" lol

There might be some regulation about being able to spread their ashes in some areas, but who's to know that you did? It's not like ashes will stand out when they are there. People can say, oh, goodness, there's a bone, but they wouldn't be likely to say, gee, does that look like human ashes to you?

LOL! I luv ya BoB!

I swear, I weigh only a little less now than the day after DS was born 19 years ago!!!! And that kid was NEVER still. I had to be w/him, track him until he was about 6!!! (That was also my excuse for not getting house work done, too!!! Had to keep an eye on the boy!!! ;))

One time, I even cut out chips (my favorite food) and pop, back when I was drinking regular, and when there was no weight loss, I'm like---so, I can be fat and unhappy, or I can be fat and happy, and you probably know which I chose, lol!!!

I did lose weight after DD was born, for a bit. And, then DURING my pregnancy w/DS. @ about 7 months, the doc says, now, you aren't dieting are you? You know you can't diet during pregnancy!! You have only gained 5 pounds!!! I remind him what I weighed on my first prenatal visit, and invited him to review my chart on the weight loss @ the beginning due to nausea, inability to eat much @ all. If he looked @ THAT, he would note that I have indeed, gained a good 20 pounds!!! He didn't bother me w/that anymore!!!

Even when I do a healthy diet thing, I only lose a couple of pounds here and there. Probably has to do w/exercise, more than anything. @ work, I do more than 20,000 steps in a day (sometimes in a morning!!!) Some of it is down a long hall and back, but unfortunately too much of it is stop and go. Gotta keep that pulse rate up and running for an extended period of time. Of course, my heart rate is over 100 @ rest, so my excuse is, I'm afraid how high it might get!!! lol

Got my knee pads on, got out the brush and bucket, spent an hour scrubbing down the kitchen floor. Rinsed it again, dried it and buffed it. By hand. Then laid down a nice smooth layer of polish. Perfect. Opened the windows and set it to drying.

And then the boy decided it would be "silly" to let the dog into the kitchen. The scrabbling panicking Idjit went skating and shedding in panic...you get the picture. Why do I get no cooperation around here

Go ahead and order the Magic Plant-of-the-Week, but don't forget to chase weebles even more and eat less, lol!

My magic trick is chromium picolinate...

good luck. I'm hungry and cranky :cuss: My poor hubby.

I didn't read the warning emails about Acai because it wasn't something I was gonna be using. But, you might look on sites not related to Acai to see what they have to say, in case the down side is something you aren't interested in experiencing. And, to see if these are addressed @ the Acai site(s.) I suppose it's a "natural" herb kind of thing, and sometimes folks think it's all good. But, even as w/chemical medication, it might also affect some system that you already have an issue with, or might plain ol' have an adverse affect on another system.

After reading all the diet possiblities and trying some--Adkins--my God, NO carbs? I was never, ever so hungry and miserable in my life!!! Even the "new improved" was horrible, IMO. And getting some exotic Chinese green tea, what I have found over the years is that, even those type of things have the same message.

Basically, they all say, in order to get the maximum effect of this product, you should eat a balanced, calorie appropriate diet, drink @ least 8 glasses of water a day, and exercise!!! Each and every one I have ever looked @ have this. Even the ones advertised on tv--"Lose weight and eat what you want!!!!" Well, you might lose a little weight, but you'd closer meet their advertised weight loss if you DON'T "eat what you want."

And, surprisingly or not, all the wonderful EXERCISE products and regimes pretty much say the same. Our product works best if you eat sensibly, a balance, calorie appropriate diet, and drink 8 glasses of water a day!!!

Gotta read the small print!!! So, my conclusion is: if I ate a balanced, calorie appropriate diet (watch the carbs, esp,) drank 8 glasses of water a day, and exercised, I could probably lose weight without the expense of the herbs and spices and exercise machines!!! lol. Now, if I would just be disciplined enough to check out my theory!!!! :D

Small town in the Midwest is NOTHING like small town in the East, probably especially coastal towns. Small town here means--miles from anywhere!!! lol. I grew up in a town that was maybe 50 people. Went to high school in a town of maybe 400, and the county seat probably was all of 4,000!!!! The "big towns" usually the county seats have a grocery, a Dairy Queen, a Jiffy Lube, a gas station, maybe 2. Nowaydays they also have a few convenience stores. The county seat where I came from has a pizza hut, and those in two surrounding counties now have McD's and Sonic!!!

There are clinics and small hospitals with nursing homes in the county seats, but major medical/surgical problems require a trip to a regional center (where the population is 25,000 to 30,000!!! Really, really major stuff (or some people just go there for the major stuff) requires a trip of 3 hours or more, depending on where the major centers are.

We have our "turkey" drivers here, too. Sometimes, I am even one of them!!!:o I think Poppa might yell @ me about the dizzy b thing somedays!!! I used to live in "the big city" of 30,000 but moved to a town of 4,000 when the kids started school. From city limit sign to city limit sign on Railroad Ave is all of 4 miles, lol!!!! So, my current small town living has more advantages than the small town living where the folks and most of my siblings are living these days.

Oh, and the scenery is fields of waving grain (if there isn't a drought,) sprinkler systems, a few trees here and there. But, man, you CAN see for miles and miles and miles!!! A tad bit warm with hot winds-no cool ocean breeze to cool things off, lol!!!!

It's a full moon day! Have fun and Amy, you know how it goes in hospitals on a full moon night. Enjoy the full moon in Pisces. There is always laughter. And of course, dreams.

Fortunately for me, I don't work again until tomorrow. I might miss the fun and excitement, but will have to deal w/the aftermath, lol!!!

Oh, yeah, Atkins! I was on one of the sites where people boost each other on that diet, and a newbie came on and posted her photos. Lost 100 pounds in 4 months! wow! and then she said her only problems were fainting at work and periodic heart palpitations Thanks, but I would like to live to enjoy losing weight! moo

Bolding mine.

From what I read and hear, that is a darn good workout!!! We are blessed w/so many conveniences, that is some of what "the experts" have attributed to the fattening of the nation. Now, I know there were some chubby, even fat people in the really old ages, but as a rule, people were much slimmer. Cook over a hot fire, not only wash the dishes, but scrub those humongous kettles!!! Go fetch the firewood. Grow and reap the garden, and preserve the overflow of fruits and veggies. Walk those cellar steps where food stuff is kept to keep it cool. Walk to church or town, or spend calories catching and harnessing horses to the buggy. Use some calories whilst controlling the horse on the ride!!! Wash the clothes on a scrub board, scrub floors on hands and knees. That's yours, lol!!! Little time to sit and read; sewing by hand and knitting took more calories anyway.

I think their diets were not exactly the most healthy, but surely more healthy than the neighborhood McD's or Sonic. Even restaurants now provide servings much larger than any human need to consume @ one meal. (Which is what doggie bags were made for, but far too people use them.)

When I hear some of the (whatever they are) people who go on about emissions and stuff, I just wanna scream @ them to tell them to outlaw modern automobiles!!! Go back to the horse and buggy, buy yourself a bicycle to get around on!!! Oh, I guess the horse thing wouldn't work so well, there is that complaint about animal emissions which is more toward cows, but still.....the horse does it's share of emissions!!!!:chicken:

So I'm having a Woo-hoo day!

PS, yeah, Amy, I totally understand about the boys whose every moment you have to track!

When the kids were little, they helped me scrub the kitchen floor. I would get a couple of pans, square, shortish and put some water and Dawn dish soap in them, with a couple of little sponges. Put the pans and the kids in the kitchen and let them play!!! Then, took bath towels down on the floor and scoot them around w/my feet until the water was sopped up!!! My floor was the don't wax kind, thank goodness!!! The first time people saw the process, their eyes would bug out. But, hey, the floor and the kids were clean, all I had left to do was wash the towels!!!!

Dawn dish soap was my friend. The kids would get sooo dirty outside, and bubble bath just didn't seem to work so much. I remembered about cutting the grease stuff on Dawn commercials, so used that instead of bubble bath if the kids were exceptionally dirty. Worked, too!!

That's another problem of modern society in general. We want it ALL and we want it NOW!!!! The best weight loss is slow and steady. Learning new, healthier habits and lifestyles.

I wonder, those nutrisystem and type people. They say they have lost x number of pounds, and kept it off for x number of years. Do they eat that stuff forever and a day? Or, do they eventually get back to food they prepare themselves? And, I wonder how many "users" of that type of dieting gain the weight back, going off the foodstuff they pay for?

I drink my Diet Dr Pepper, my coffee (usually w/flavored creamer) and my International House coffee. On the occasion I go out to eat, I will have water (mostly cuz they charge horribly for anything else--some places iced tea is TWICE what it costs to have a soft drink!!!!) I always just figured, liquid is liquid, and DDP is as good as any. The nurse practicioner says, nope. Everything else has things that make you retain this, excrete too much of that, etc etc etc. Water flushes you out. Oh, you can put a TOUCH of lemon or lime, but don't get carried away!!! Even those fruit flavored waters they sell commercially doesn't seem to count!!!!

I put the bag of Gator's ashes in a blue velvet bag which has the rainbow bridge on it and the put it in a beautiful inlaid wooden laquered box and he's on my chest of drawers with a cross that has friend and a saying written down it. One day, my ashes will be spread into Prince William Sound in Alaska and Gator will join me.

Don't bury him in the yard. My friend did that with her daughter's dog and then sold the house. It's a sore subject. The daughter keeps the ashes of her other dog in a box in her closet because she says she will always know where he is.

WOW! That's great! Coincidentally, I'm behaving myself with the food lately too. I actually dusted off the treadmill yesterday and did ten minutes. I ate mini wheats for supper tonight and tomato salad. Eww, that's sounds terrible, but I was good. I ate cereal for supper last night too. Special K. I need to learn more about that Mediterranean diet Gator is on. I love Mediterranean stuff. I haven't gone near a scale in months. I'm afraid. Food is a drug for me. I'll do cocaine when I'm older and can handle it. ;)

Really enjoying the Med diet. I made a breakfast casserole that I invented and it's sooooo good = spinach, broccoli, onion, mushrooms, egg beaters, low fat ricotta, fat free yogurt, feta cheese. I take out about a cup full for breakfast and just drizzle a tiny bit of olive oil before heating and I have a gerber's baby food banana or banana mix fruit. For dinner tonight I had some of the spinach/onion/mushroom/broccoli mixture that I did not need for the casserole - put it on a plate and drizzled EVOO, garlic and lots of lemon juice and put a 4 oz roasted chicken breast on top with more lemon juice. Heated it up and had a terrific chicken florantine. Fantastic!

Yes, I miss him everyday but i think he's come back. He died in my house and I think his soul went into little Freddo, one of the kittens I took in. Freddy has become super attached to me and even sleeps the same exact way that gator did - with one paw on me so that he would know when I moved. My mother calls him G2, because he has so many traits that Gator had. Freddy is about 5 and a half months now. He's a black and white tuxedo cat. His sisters aren't as sweet or friendly. Not her talk show but watched her 30 minute meals on the Food Channel. She doesn't cook very fancy which is what I like. As for the casserole I made, it was from bags of frozen veggies and a can of drained mushrooms. So easy yet so good and so fast for breakfast. Since it's already baked, I only have to scoop it out and microwave it for a minute. By 6:30 a.m. I already have two servings of veggies.

I totally understand the daughter. I think I would drive by and stalk the house forever...I loved that goofy neurotic dog! He was afraid of linoleum floors. The only exit to the backyard of our house is through the linoleumed kitchen. Every trip through the kitchen was hilarious-he would do a dance so his paws would touch the floor as little as possible.
