Hey! The res is so low I can't do anything with it even as a jpg?! How will I recognize you on the streets of Toronto at Christmas if I can't photoshop you, I ask?!

I asked the same thing. I tried everything. Now I have to find a magnifying glass somewhere...... you are cute Beem!

The two funniest things I saw: a couple of obviously SoCal girls in destroyed jeans, you know, with the enormous holes in them, $250 + a pair? You guessed it-they were freezing! Because their clothes had holes in them! On purpose! hahhahahha!

And the family with the women in full burkas shivering like crazy-how can they be so cold, wearing so many layers?

You know I keep seeing that look in jeans in certain fashion magazines with stars and models wearing it. I really think it looks nasty and was hoping it was just a fad. Don't we have enough people who look like that with no money anyways!!!!!!! LOL and we seem to be getting more holes the more expensive they get. Makes perfect since.
I think that other couple is from Arizona and they never dreamed it would be cold in SF so they had to go out and buy more clothes. LOL sara

Thanks for the links Marian. I just read about something I've never known about, it was pretty unusual stuff. I read the site that mentioned Charnley-Williams research and reports about that condition. Brilliant man. I pray you have benefited from the research and new options, although, things were different then and I know that.

My mantra has always been: Great people are those who have suffered greatly.

Only the strong survive Marian. Stay strong friend.:seeya:

Thanks for your kind post.

Heck, I had my last op in '70, a bit of a "touch up" to make it stronger. Read very little about "my condition" myself these days.

May I take this opportunity (librarian :read: hat :hat: on) to urge you all that if you are gonna look up diseases and symptoms and stuff like that on the 'net, stick to these sites or sites connected with the professionals dealing with the condition (national organizations for oncologists for cancer, etc.)

There is so much unreliable medical stuff on the'net!!!:flamemad:

Dude, I was hanging out in SF today, and it was 57 degrees! and blasting windy! Now I know SF is notorious for cold summers, but this is ridiculous.

Although it is funny to see the tourists in all new sweatshirts, crisp and still sporting their tags, teehee!

What happened to global warming?

I've seen contradictions galore on the net regarding medical conditions, yes.
Some scary and confusing stuff. Just this week, my daughter was mentioning the confusion re: St John's Wort reports. Some good, some bad. I wonder how herbs can be bad for us. I had to laugh. Western medical gurus do not want us to go natural. They'd rather poison us with their wares. Business is business after all!

On November 9, 2001 I lost my son Danny. He committed suicide after a long struggle with addiction. Of course he was more than an addict, he was a calculus major, brilliant and very compassionate as well. He died when he was 32 years old and his passing wreaked havoc on our lives here. After all the struggles, the bitterness and the stages, grief taught me that i must remain strong, I wrote a book and titled it, WHY WHISPER? It is a true memoir. This book takes you through grief and walks, (crawls) toward enduring it with love.

I wrote it to get the pain out of me and I wrote it for those who have survived the suicide of someone they love. It is common for this word "suicide" to be hushed. It should not be.

While doing some editing this morning I came upon this excerpt and thought of the Anthony's and their Caylee buttons. This offends me and I'm not sure why. Here's the part of Why Whisper that caught me today.

There is no despair so absolute as that which comes with the first moments of our first great sorrow, when we have not yet known what it is to have suffered and be healed, to have despaired and have recovered hope. George Elliot (1819 - 1880)

The Grief Group

Solace is not something to seek out, but rather something to achieve; this I was learning more every day.

One humid July evening, upon his insistence, I reluctantly followed Joe to a Grief Group. There, in a rented church basement on the East Side of Providence, a circle of cold folding chairs and bereaved individuals awaited me. It felt eerily similar to the circles I had once sat in during Al Anon meetings.

Fluorescent lighting never brings out the best in people, and this evening was no exception. Standing before a faux-wood banquet table dotted with pastry and lukewarm coffee, I felt like a bleating lamb before the slaughter. Mechanically, I filled a small paper dish with some indefinable dessert. “Just zone out,” I encouraged myself.

My husband, handling me like a piece of fine china, stayed close and quiet as I exchanged cordialities with a few strangers. They were wearing buttons on their lapels, each with a picture of someone. Some pictures were of babies and teens. My heart stuttered. I knew the significance of these photos. The dead were being flaunted like some sort of coat of arms.

At this point, the disdain for my surroundings was palpable. With one look Joe knew that I would be making for the door at any moment. He preemptively took my elbow lightly and said, “Just give it a try.”

The woman who chaired the meeting was older, perhaps in her sixties. I wondered how long she had been coming to this place to talk about the dead child pictured on her lapel. As she embarked on her grief journey, it was soon learned that she was a psychologist, a lesbian, and that her teenage foster daughter had been dead for ten years.

By the time the next speaker began weeping through her story of a miscarriage eight years earlier, I was mentally halfway out the door. Listening to each member of the group define their rendition of hell, I could see very clearly that they were all still in it many years after the death of their loved one happened. That scared me.

How could I classify myself with these people? I didn’t need a Danny-button pinned to my sweater. His death was not an advertisement to provoke sympathy or promote a cause for the pathos-hungry. With the exception of one hollow man whose son had been electrocuted just a few weeks before, I saw them all as sadistic ghouls.

As if it were in flames, I left the building.

We were barely curbside before I purged my thoughts to Joe. “Those people are f/u/c/k/i/n/g nuts! We should have gone pumpkin smashing, it would have been more productive!”

He said nothing. Instead, he drove us to a favorite Providence eatery of ours. Over several NY-system hot wieners (the contents of which are forever a mystery), we talked about Danny. Joe reminisced about his shenanigans, which brought laughter into the conversation. “Danny had a good heart” he began, “He would give away his last ten dollars, even if it wasn’t his.” I smiled, then asked, “Do you think Danny could be sitting right here with us?” A smile crept from one corner of Joe’s mouth as he replied, “It’s possible. If you see him, would you ask him where my favorite screwdriver went--the one with the blue handle?”

I hate those buttons. :(

We got a connection here to a very solid non-public European sight on materia medica.

In Europe all the stuff called "food supplements" in the USA (and Israel) are regulated for quality and purity.

I believe that my experiences in grief have led me to a place in life I would have never known if not for the way truth arrived.

Excerpt from Why Whisper? This is what grief looks like.

***

“I want to tell you all the truth about my brother,” he began. Everyone in this room, who knows Danny, knows that what I am going to say is true. If you don’t know him, then let me tell you who he was. He was a drunk and a druggy. He preyed on the weak. He stole our time, our compassion, our money, and our trust. He was brilliant but he became a contractor because that made it easier for him to screw people.”

Richie then reached in the casket and removed a yellow speed-square used by finish carpenters. My daughter had placed it in Danny’s folded hands earlier. He held it up so everyone in the room could see it. “See this? I cannot tell you how many times he borrowed ten dollars from me to buy another one of these because my brother lost so many of them. Tonight I found out that these yellow plastic triangles only cost three dollars. Danny was a liar. He was irresponsible. He took advantage of our love and he used my mother. He lost phone numbers, jobs, apartments, cars, money and people!”

He then hoisted himself on the closed half of the casket and sat there, as a child would. He seemed to want to be a part of it. I looked at my two fine-looking sons–one dead and the other in agony–and mentally escaped to a place where they were brothers again. Only a few weeks before, Richie was snapping a small towel at Danny’s feet when he was asleep on the couch. They loved to joke around. Their personalities were very different, and they made different choices in life, but Richie was loyal and very close to his brother.

Richie went on to say, “He was smart but he couldn’t hold a job for a week. The last time he called me, I hung up on him.”

The room was silent, as if there wasn’t a single person in it but Richie. I felt as though I had been carved out like a disfigured ruin, in shock and without the emotional resources to respond. I sat motionless. Feeling as if I was hearing him speak with someone else’s ears, I became utterly lost in Richie’s truth. I had never seen him speak before an audience and didn’t know he was capable of it. Richie was introverted, polite. He never spoke out of turn; but when he did speak, it was the truth.

“He couldn’t stop screwing up his life or everybody’s life,” he said, a pained honesty clear in his voice. “He hurt us, and now he goes and kills himself and puts the cherry on the cake.” Richie paused. He had a watchful look as if he expected someone to interrupt him. “But he is my brother and I love him. I just want you all to know that.” He kissed his brother. He walked out of the room, and out of the building. From the parking lot, we all heard his car tires screech.

I don’t remember looking at the crowd’s reaction to this extraordinary account of a brother’s rage, and of a brother’s love. For the first time in his life, Richie had refused to “play nice.” That moment he told the truth about Danny became a transforming moment in his life. A mother’s only son now defined, Richie knew that there is nothing in this world that would take the place of his brother.

***

As family members filed out of the room that night, I knelt before the casket for one last look at my son. The thought of leaving him there alone was unbearable. Staring at his peaceful face, I touched his tie and remembered how he had never learned to knot one himself. I gently pushed his shirt cuffs under the sleeves of his jacket, running my fingers along the same hands that only a few days before had touched mine.

"Rest in peace Danny boy, I love you," I whispered. With a crushing sadness, I was aware that these were the last words I'd have the chance to say while looking at my son's face.

Leaning on his bronze coffin, I kissed his forehead and cheek, and placed my head gently on his chest for the last time. Silence responded.

The sedatives I had taken earlier that evening were no competition for the deep, visceral cries that overtook my body at that moment. I called to my son over and over again, tears flooding my face as sadness flooded my heart.
Gently, Joe brought me to my feet and took me into his arms. "Alright, come with me now, and let him rest for a while," he said quietly. "He's dead Joe! His skin is freezing cold. He's not resting, he's dead," was all I could reply.
I kneeled down at the corner of the coffin, and screamed his name.
I was bent over.
I was angry.
I was shattered.

“The hour of departure has arrived, and we go our ways - I to die, and you to live. Which is better God only knows.” Socrates

During the past four years, I have been trying to describe what it feels like to lose a child. What I discovered is that this level of grief often transcends description. It has had no boundaries, no lexis, or design.

.During the first month after Danny’s death my husband was not able to convince me to trust him. I couldn’t make him understand that I trusted nothing. He had a difficult time with my state of mind. He was a self-made man and controlled everything in his life. I was in my second marriage and Danny wasn’t his son. I know he loved Danny but I thought he couldn’t possibly love him the way I did. I was exposed in an area where terror replaced self-control. I couldn’t remember how to pretend that everything was fine. He was afraid for me and I couldn’t help him. He loved me and I didn’t care.

I wanted my house to disappear.
I wanted the barn my son built to disappear.
I wanted the counter where he made tuna salad to disappear.
I wanted his shirts in the laundry room to disappear.
His insulin sat on the counter. I wanted that to disappear along with his cell phone that lay on the end table where he left it.
I wanted the pictures of his beautiful smile and the world to disappear.
Mostly, I wanted to disappear.

A Husband Pleads

I take a small step and stop.
I take the blanket he slept with and I drop it on the chair
I take another small step
Do you need help?
I stand still
I stare at the air
Let me help you
No
Please let me help you.
You can’t
I can, please let me try
Please kill me that would help

I am totally transformed since then. I love life and I accept my son's decision because I had to. In order to make a blessing of a tradgedy, I learned how to navigate love. I thank my weebles, husband and 3 children every day for the joys that kicked my grief in the pants.

:) It's all good, like Beem says! :)

My book, Why Whisper? is being looked at by an agent. Whether its published or not doesn't matter. It helped me to write it. As Robert Frost said, "Three little words decribe life: IT GOES ON."

Nawny i am speechless. That was beautiful. Thank You for sharing that. You have suffered the greatest loss-that of a child. You are an example to others. No wonder we look up to you. You have gone thru the journey and come out the other side. Thank You for sharing that with us. No greater gift in life to share with others. Grief is such a horrible journey and confusing. Mine was a learning curve thats for sure. As you know i lost my best friend of 42 years over a year ago. What a journey that was. Her death was long and painful. Work and home was my escape. Then a client i worked with for 15 years died within a month who had cancer. I was there. For some reason i knew it would happen on my shift. I took extra care to dress that day as i knew it in my gut. I went into her room. Said my goodbyes and told her it was ok and time to go. With that she took 2 breaths and passed. That was 10 minutes into my shift. I took from that i was supposed to know that not every cancer patient suffers so. Sucked it up and moved on-or so i thought. We then lost several friends who where in their 50's unexpectantly. Moved on again-or so i thought. Then my father in law got sick with cancer. The family did all the care-no stranger would be allowed to do any care. He was to die at home. Everyone took turns and shifts 24/7. I think this went on for approx. 10 weeks or so. The night he died we were all there. My MIL refused to leave his side for all those hours. We were in we were out thru the course of the eve-just milling about the house and deck. At one point my MIL screamed at us all to get out-she wanted to be alone with him. And i mean scremed-angrily. It frightened me as i never saw her angry. We all huddled out on the deck-it was a cold, damp and misty Jan. night. Finally somebody went in and we were allowed back in. Then he passed a few hrs. later. I was so angry. Never showed it or let on. I spent months being angry but did not know why. In the end i came to know i just had not dealt with my friends death. I did private grief counselling. She was very good and the floodgates opened one session. My head knew all the right things it was my heart that was not there yet. I felt guilt-she and i share our first cig. together. She died of lung metzed to the brain. Why her and not me. So in essence i did deal but man it hard :rose:

I understand Bree. We are afraid of it. The only way (speaking strictly for me) that we can process and accept, is to believe with everything in us, that death doesn't mean end. It means home. We're all just visiting here, aye? I've often concluded that someone Else's suffering is not their lesson, it's ours. Losing people we love changes us. Some not, but most. To love is a risk and I believe that is why some people can't do it.

I say DO IT! What we would miss if we didn't is more than wonderful. :)

Your guilt about surviving when your friend didn't is all part of grief. We take the blame so easily, as if we really believe we could have bungled a death! Humans are so silly. She went home Bree. It's okay to cry. We cry! That's what humans do. :(

so...the lake here has a severe problem with some type of algae. the smell resembles raw sewage, although the city has claimed over and over that they have tested the water and there is NO SEWAGE leak anywhere in the lake, they still recommend that children and pets DO NOT swim in it for the risk of illness, and also DO NOT eat the fish caught out of it, for risk of illness. it stinks everyday HORRENDOUSLY, it is so bad that friends of ours who live in the resorts on the lake shore cannot open their windows during the day.

TODAY for the first time all summer, i smelled the lake before 9am. it usually doesn't even reach my house, but today is going to be bad if i can already smell it.

i was telling my hubby, maybe if all the people who live on the lake shore poured a gallon of bleach into that water once a month it would kill the damn algae and we wouldn't live in Stink Valley anymore LOL

Make me go downstairs and get the laundry out of the dryer. Say something that will inspire me!

Ya know I was going to hang the clothes out on the line today. It's so beautiful out there and the smell of the sunshine on the sheets is so sweet! I love to hang the clothes out and let the gentle breezes dry them nicely within a half hour! I love watching the breeze blow the sheets and watch the white cotton billowing in the summer wind.

I really was going to hang them out today.

LIE!

The painter didn't show up today. :cuss: I thought I was stuck in the house again.. so now I can't do the laundry because I have to go shopping for the party on Sunday.

your guilt about surviving when your friend didn't is all part of grief. We take the blame so easily, as if we really believe we could have bungled a death! Humans are so silly. She went home bree. It's okay to cry. We cry! That's what humans do. :(

Oooo that sounds pretty bad J! I know that smell. It's from the heat right?
Sad that the kiddies can't play in the water. Yep, bleach would do it J!

well the smell gets bad in the heat, but the algae is not native to our lake, it was introduced about 10 years ago from a boat that a tourist brought. i have heard it is some kind of nasty Asian algae, i used to know the name but it has been so long since i heard it i cannot remember for the life of me. but the reason it is so bad is because it doesn't belong here. our lake used to be so clean you could actually see to the bottom in some places, hence the name Clearlake, but now its more like Green Sewer Lake

deacon

so...the lake here has a severe problem with some type of algae. the smell resembles raw sewage, although the city has claimed over and over that they have tested the water and there is NO SEWAGE leak anywhere in the lake, they still recommend that children and pets DO NOT swim in it for the risk of illness, and also DO NOT eat the fish caught out of it, for risk of illness. it stinks everyday HORRENDOUSLY, it is so bad that friends of ours who live in the resorts on the lake shore cannot open their windows during the day.

*Safety Guy hat going on* What you are smelling if probably Hydrogen Sulfide. It smells like sewage because what you smell in sewage is Hydrogen Sulfide. Rotting organic matter, both fecal and animal, people and algae give off this gas as they rot. It can be dangerous so yes, do not swim in that water. (as long as you smell it the airborne part is below the danger level by a good bit. It is after you don't smell it anylonger that it is dangerous.) Once the algae problem goes away a while later the smell will go away.

i have lived here since i was 7 years old and the last time the lake was safe to swim in without risking some kind of illness was when i was about 9. this is an ongoing problem with no solution in sight.

We got a connection here to a very solid non-public European sight on materia medica.

In Europe all the stuff called "food supplements" in the USA (and Israel) are regulated for quality and purity.

The fact that there is no oversight is pretty whack. Many powerful drugs come straight from herbs: aspirin, digitalis, many more...just because they are bottling the source, maybe especially since they are bottling the source, they should be regulated. Many herbs are sheer poison, and some in very small amounts.

A lot of lakes here are closed right now because when the water gets too warm, amoebas grow. If the amoebas get into your nose, they can go to your brain and you die. Three young boys died here three years ago from swimming in ponds and the amoeba killed them.

Be careful not to get water into your nose.

God willing - never. It was a stupid acquisition. Anyone who goes missing in a Lake is recovered by the police dive team. If you are in the open waters, it is the Coast Guard. Did they expect to find a three or four year old child just floating in the water waiting to be rescued?

The money should have been donated to TES. They spent a fortune in the time they spent looking for Caylee and they opened a chapter here so they certainly could have used the money.

Nawny, I don't know if it's right to respond to your message or not. It leaves me wanting to give you a big silent hug. My feeling is that you didn't want to keep reliving his choices and his death, which is what those people were doing, but you wanted to celebrate his life and memory. It was a lessons learned moment and maybe it helped you to remember him with blessed thoughts instead of only the sad ones. Danny is in your heart always and you don't need a pin to remind anyone that you have a son whom you love deeply. :rose:

I believe that my experiences in grief have led me to a place in life I would have never known if not for the way truth arrived.

Excerpt from Why Whisper? This is what grief looks like.

My book, Why Whisper? is being looked at by an agent. Whether its published or not doesn't matter. It helped me to write it. As Robert Frost said, "Three little words decribe life: IT GOES ON."

Nawny,

This is the first time I have visited this thread since joining and I don't know what made me click on this link today but I'm sure glad I did!

These are two very powerful posts and I appreciate your sharing them. I would love to give you a huge hug and I know I would receive one in return - readily and with no reservations. You seem to have a heart as big as all the outdoors. For those of us struggling on Danny's side of the equation, it opens our eyes to what devastation this act would inflict on those left behind. It encourages one to dig deeper within and go in life.

I truly can't wait to purchase your book and read the entire thing. I have every faith that it will make it to publication. You have a way with words and it draws the reader right in. The agony is poignant and so moving.

On certain medications, it is hard to feel emotions but these posts came right through to the heart. Bless you.

Bless you.

Thank you wags. It helped you and that makes all the difficulty of writing this book well worth it. It's all I want.

I used to think that people who took their own lives were brave. Now I know that if you can't stand the pain of a life so brutally shaken with sorrow, it takes more courage to go on living. I also believe thoroughly in the information I found in Victor Frankl's book, Man's search for Meaning. Yes I would hug you... I would definitely hug you Wags. :)

Excerpt from Why Whisper:

Nietzsche's words: “He who has a why to live can bear with almost any how.'"

Man’s Search for Meaning

“We will be known forever by the tracks we leave.” Dakota Indian

I was thirty-four years old when my father died in 1984. He died of a dreadful disease called Sclera Derma. At the age of sixty-five, his lungs had begun to harden and his oxygen was gradually cut off until he couldn't’t inhale without the assistance of a portable oxygen tank. During the last lap of his life, while he was bed ridden and very close to death, he would pull the oxygen mask off his face every few minutes. We would put it back on his face repeatedly. I thought he was valiant. He wanted to die, I was sure of it.

He took his last breath in my mother’s arms. He moved on to another place, and my life bent into another shape. I became someone who wasn’t satisfied with the answers my father had given me. His pat answer to my questions about life was, “You work, you eat, sleep, and work some more, and then you die.” My father ran out of breath.

My father’s death left me searching for answers. Answers I was able to find years later in a small local bookstore. Victor Frankl’s book, Man’s Search for Meaning, found its way into my hands somehow.

Frankl wrote of his time as a prisoner in one of the worst concentration camps in Germany. When he learned of his wife’s death, he dealt with it by using their love for each other as his shield against his captors. Memories of the love they shared kept him alive while he was being starved and worked nearly to death.

He is quoted as saying, “The salvation of man is through love and in love. I understood how a man who has nothing left in this world still may know bliss, be it only for a brief moment, in the contemplation of his beloved.”

Frankl saw men will themselves to death to escape the pain and fear in which they were immersed. He knew they were refusing to be victims, using their minds as a tool to kill themselves before the Germans could. With this observation, he learned of the strength of the human mind, and was able to employ his own will to do the very opposite: to survive.

Frankl’s basic discovery in the midst of his grief and suffering was that life has meaning under all circumstances, even the most miserable ones. He understood the power of the will. He was on a mission to finish his book. That was his “why” to live. He had endured for the pure sake of acting as a mouthpiece, and a builder of a road to understanding “man’s search for meaning.” His personal search kept him alive. He found man’s meaning and delivered it to the world.
I learned in Frankl’s book that we will live as long as we believe there is more to do in our lives; and we will die when that work is finished. There is only enough time to do what is important.

So you see , we all need a "WHY" to live! :)

When people get on their global warming kick, I tell them--better be careful about what all you do to reverse the global warming!!! Back in the 70's we were worried about global cooling, and guess we went too far in attempts to reverse THAT, cuz here we are today, worried about warming!!! lol.

Maybe enough people have taken Al Gore's suggestions about global warming and they are working? :D:biggrin::chicken::punch:

Thank you for sharing, Nawny. I have never been there, never done that. Only have lost grandma and granny and aunts and uncles, all rather very old, and of "natural" means, altho one would rather not think things like stroke and cancer are "natural."

It has been about 8 years since my DD attempted suicide, I only thank God that she was not successful, altho I know there are times she regrets that she was not. The psychiatrist asked her several years ago if she still tho't about killing herself and she said yes. When asked what stops her, she said, because it made my momma cry.

I'm still mad at her. :cuss: I was never one to ask a wait staff person to shove their junk and return my money, but that day I came close. Five dollars for a bad banana split is too much. I wanted to go tell her to go blow a noodle. How hard is it to scoop 3 scoops of chocolate, chocolate sauce, a few nuts, bananas and whipped cream? She made a mess and had the audacity to hand it to me! I don't like half scoops of ice cream and watery whipped cream. I wanted to cry. lol!

Oh Amy, I'm so sorry. I learned after Danny that so many people are suffering with that kind of depression. It is very frightening.

After I settled down I opened a restaurant as a memorial to him and called it Dannyboys Place for Lunch. The story got around and the news crew came into the restaurant to do a take for what they call, "Street Stories"

I spoke on Eyewitness news in my effort to reach people who were in that situation asking them to talk about it, and not be ashamed to reach out. It ran twice at the restaurant and it drew so many people to me who had nowhere else to go but into shame and fear.

No one in their clear mind would take their life. Depression is so difficult to navigate because it hurts so much and the fallacy that they will never feel better often becomes fact to them, but it is a myth. Nothing stays the same. Danny believed that myth. He thought his emotional pain was endless. I spoke with may people who either lost loved ones that way or were afraid they would. I had nothing profound to say to them, but as we know the truth is profound in itself and the truth is, love is all there is.

One good thing in your situation is, you had a warning. I wish I did. I relied on professionals who released my son who was an inpatient at a hospital for depression three days before he died. They deemed him no threat to himself or others. I kicked that one around in Why Whisper alright.

Your DD's love for you saved her life. It was bigger than her depression. Thank God!!!

"Hold on loosely" I will think of you and your DD all day. Sending hope and energy. :)

Our little yellow Lab, True is sick. There was some blood in his stools this morning though he was happy and playful. My daughter got a quick appointment with a nearby vet, as her vet is a half hour away. She panicked!
The vet was a young girl who was pretty snarly, so she had to tune her up. Those drive thru vets can be a little .. ah ... not so good.

She was told the pup has an intestinal infection and an ear infection. She told her to give the dog some meds she prescribed and to boil chicken and rice and feed it to True for 3 days. She is going to take True to her vet tomorrow.

Anyone ever hear of this issue with Labs? Dogs? (True isn't a dog, he's a people.) I had so much fun with him yesterday. Such a wonderful smart little thing. I feel so sorry for him that he's sick today. :(

oh, poor little guy! did they get him from the breeder direct, or was he shipped? I have a friend who bought a rare dog online and he was flown cross-country and got an infection a week after...shipping is very rough on them. But if he's happy, I'm sure he's fine. Good they brought him in though. I have found that Labs more than other dogs mask being sick until they are really sick, so good he was brought in at the first symptoms.

ear infections, I have seen lots of. If he shakes his head a lot, try to stop him-bind his ear to his head or something. blood vessels can rupture on the ear flap and they need to drain it.

Too cute ;) Yeah and our one son relies on it to come home weekends from school if the weather is lousy for driving. I know Windsor city workers have been out since last April-still out-sweet smelling there in some parts. Some our boys friends are at University of Windsor and had jobs with the city for the summer. Now no job and some have found nothing else. Windsor is one of the leading Canadian cities for unemployment-very automotive dependant. Some kids stay the summers in the cities they go to school in due to the fact over here off campus housing only has one year leases. Unlike the U.S. who will have leases set up for the time period you are in school. I have been paying 450.00 a month for our one son and he has been out of school since end of April. Wont start back till early Sept. So some stay put since their housing has to be paid anyway Grrrrrr:shrug:

Oooh, good! We could theoretically walk downtown, but if Dboo saw the tracks and we weren't on them--*shudder*
Our BART is about to go on strike too. I do not support this strike. My dad worked for BART, so I know what's up. Here's one of my favorite comments from an employee: "This place is run like a gulag from the 1950s. Early retirement is looking more attractive every day." (Does it sound like BART is a gulag if early retirement is an option? Too bad Solzhenitzin didn't take advantage of that :))

And this one: "The minute you're on the clock someone is asking you do do something!" (um yeah, having a job is a veritable Reign of Terror.)

This strike will really help all the folks out during this recession, huh? Without BART, people who work in the city have only the bridge and a few ferries to fall back on. A real disaster. Everybody out here is having work spread over offices and hours being voluntarily cut back to keep everyone employed if possible, but BART employees are too good to cut back like everybody else. They really, truly have it good. Which is not to say management there isn't bad, too. (imo, moo, imho whatever)

I hear ya Bob-pure greed-might come back to bite em in the azz one day. With some enough is just never enough.

I don't always agree w/administration, or even government regulations. But, whenever we are asked to do something (assuming the complaint is "something that is not in our job description") that another department has decided to not do, or that someone somewhere has deemed "important" I remind myself that I still have a job, while there are many out there who do not--talking of the people caught in the layoffs. And, if I were to protest too much, I might find myself without a job--and there probably aren't many out there to just pick up on the rebound. I don't know about the BART folks, but I sure think my paycheck is going to go a lot further in supporting me and my family than some unemployment wage, or whatever monetary assistance would be available to people who are on strike.

There is that saying, if you're not part of the solution, you must be part of the problem. IMO, if there are rules or regulations or expectations from administration, you don't just ignore them, or say you will go on strike to avoid them. You work on CHANGING the situation, going thru channels, maybe putting in a little bit of time doing research into similar instances, PROVIDING ALTERNATE SOLUTIONS. I would imagine this would be something that could be accomplished thru the union--why would they need to strike?

Unions do have their place but they can be frustrating too when they support the lazy azz's. I was kinda surprised last night when i went in for night shift. Newbie-I just had not met her yet. She has been on the schedule past her orientation for at least a week. That means good to go. The med book is open on the desk so i politely ask if she needs it for something or had a question. She then says oh yeah you have to do the HS meds. I said to her HS is never given out on the night shift-oh you have too i have not had my med training yet :cuss: Of course all staff have their pharmacology but its an agency test. They come in and make sure you understand EVERYTHING and then watch you pour and dispense then good to go. So i ask when are you set up for it. Apparently not for at least a week. So in essence the other staff has their own to do and then run over to the other side and do hers. Thats when mistakes happen. Asshats :flamemad:

Sounds about right or it can be worms. Those are very treatable it just is somewhat messy. Sort of like a double dose of exlax with something in it to kill the worms. I can't figure out the chicken and rice though. I know I like chicken and rice sometimes but that is not when I am sick.

I went through that on the last job and I agree with you. that is when mistakes happen. When one of us called in sick we had to cover for them and we all had to many clients as it was. At least you do not have to train her too and take time away from work.......sara

oh, poor little guy! did they get him from the breeder direct, or was he shipped? I have a friend who bought a rare dog online and he was flown cross-country and got an infection a week after...shipping is very rough on them. But if he's happy, I'm sure he's fine. Good they brought him in though. I have found that Labs more than other dogs mask being sick until they are really sick, so good he was brought in at the first symptoms.

ear infections, I have seen lots of. If he shakes his head a lot, try to stop him-bind his ear to his head or something. blood vessels can rupture on the ear flap and they need to drain it.

She got him from a local breeder hon. The man was Dr Doolittle in the flesh and had to sell that litter fast because he was moving back to NY. She interviewed his ass off before she bought the dog and checked him out good. He has a great reputation and he also sold her True for half the going price because he was in a rush. The weebs are okay, but she is a wreck. She is so worried about him and already calls him her son. Poor baby. She's had him for less than a week and he already cost her so much $$.. I tell her all the time, boys cost more than girls ;)

Could it be the chlorine in the pool? He jumped in and had to rescued the other day. She got him a kiddie pool to swim in. :)

That is bad. I almost did that at a Howard Johnsons. We stood at the cash register to pay for over 10 minutes. I have never come so close to walk out without paying. I am addicted to their coffee shakes. Do you have any HJ in Rhode Island? I think the last ones left are in NY.

Howard Johnson is my nemesis! I can even use the word HATE for Howard Johnson. It must be a rash they have because everyone of them from RI to NY and thru Conn are awful. Lord no wonder they are closing left and right.

The only good eateries are the owner operated places. These franchises are getting so bad. We have a place here called Walt's Roast Beef. I love it because they specialize in Roast Beef and it's usually great. Last week i went to the drive thru in my shopping travels and got a sandwich ($5.60 for a burger bun filled with RB) and couldn't eat it because some darn fool left it in the microwave and it was not only disintegrated it was going to give my mouth 3rd degree burns. At that point I was too far away to bother going back to complain. I hate that. I am the biggest restaurant critic on earth.

It's a business and there should be a fair exchange happening but I often have to ask: Am I bothering you? Groan... the attitude is so bad here. I say, where's the owner?

Nawny Have you ever thought about being a resturant critic and get paid? You are so good at it and know so much about food. Maybe your local newspaper could use one. and then you would get free meals good or bad.
I used to do the drive thru when I worked and they always gave me chicken sandwiches even though I asked for fish. I had no time to go back. Then I had to check the food at the window. Good grief. sara

Ooo it did sara, thank you. I know we have to be very careful with True because he likes to eat everything he sees. We all make sure the floor is free of plastic toys and shoes (of course) I don't know why the drive thru vet said he had an infection, I'm waiting to hear what the good vet says tomorrow. When we took him out the other day he actually grabbed a small rock and started chewing it. I removed it from his mouth but  I'm hopeful he is alright. Poor baby.

Ya know Sara, my biggest gripe is America's work force (the young generation) Restaurants, Franchises especially, are very expensive to create. Then the owner leaves a bunch of kids in charge who could care less about it. Drive thru is very convenient and I'll be a monkeys uncle if 90% of the people who tend it can get one order right. I am very skeptic when I order something at any drive thru. :flamemad: I should start checking my order at the window too.

Yeah, when I went to Berkeley it was all year to year, too, it varies by city. Everyone tried to sublet, but good luck with that.

I'm showing one of our apartments to 2 female students tomorrow. They are coming to RI from New Hampshire. We never rented to students, I'm wondering how that works here. Guess I'll find out.

I have a lot of experience in restaurant work and it has been a long times since waitstaff gave a hoot about their jobs or their bosses. You'd need a snitch for sure. I have always believed that we get what we pay for with employees. I say it all the time. Pay them more, and then crack the whip!
For minimum wage, you get what you get.

We frequent a restaurant that pays their staff well. The service is good and the flavor of the entire atmosphere is very good. I've known waitresses who paid off their homes waiting tables. There is a lot of money in the restaurant world if you do a good job. But now days things are so bad re work performance and it's not just in the restaurant business, right Sara? Have you been to a hospital lately?

Bless your heart Sara I know you worked in that area and I know you've seen so much too. I think this country is going to go through a huge change and soon! One day there will be people who are so grateful for work they will do a much better job. (Like the old days)

Oh Sara I am so geographically challenged that every time someone mentions a place I've never been, I Google it. I love the Internet! The east coast is okay I guess but there is so many places in the US that are better. It's a fast paced lifestyle here. When I left the city and moved to the southern part of RI we bought a house in the woods. I hated it. I felt so lonely there. We moved to another part of the area where there is more action. I am a true city girl.. but we are closer to the ocean and that's where my father would drive us to from Providence 30 miles from here, when I was younger. Now it's a mile away from me and I rarely go.

Aint that always the way?

Hi Nawny, I suggest asking them their summer plans in advance. Then you all will know what's up. Lots of students at Cal had no idea at first they would actually be expected to pay for an apartment when they didn't NEED it, lol! Some of the local eateries get on the incorrect order jag once in a while. The kids say "MoooooM!!!!" but I sit there @ the window until they check that the order is correct. They don't check, they don't get to complain down the road, that's Mom's rule. McD's doesn't have any excuse, the order is printed up as we sit @ the order box, and we go over it until it is correct. To get to the window and they try to hand out a glass of water when BOTTLED water was specified. Or the wrong sandwich, or the wrong toppings.

The east restaurant was torn down and replaced last year. TWO lanes now, but for ordering only, FGS!!! You have to merge to get to the pay and pick up windows. And, not all people are civil and let one car from one lane go, then a car from the second lane, then first, etc. Nope, some aholes think they are so smart and special and their time is more valuable than others and get out of turn. Which causes for confusion @ the pay window. "$10.59, please." "No, my order was $8.52." When you finally get THAT sorted out, you have to present your order ticket @ the pickup window so that they can hopefully give you your order and not someone else's. And THEN, still check your bag to see that you got what you ordered.

The darn squawk boxes--either the clerk is asking "WHAT???" or I am. Sometimes I don't think either one of us understand over the static. If it isn't static, it's the poor mastery of the English language that causes confusion. I have been know to say just cancel the order, I will get my lunch from another place. :flamemad: Not that the kids (and it's mostly kids who work there) seem to care much one way or the other if they lose business.

Went to Arby's. Tho't I'd get the chicken ceasar salad w/crispy chicken. The cost he gave me was $1 something (I tho't, hard to tell with the squawking.) Sure enough, @ the window, $1 something. "For the chicken caesar salad?" Can't remember what he tho't I had asked for. So he gave me salad after I paid the correct price. Got to work and set the salad down, but didn't get to it for several hours. Opened and UGH!!!! He had given me grilled chicken and it was slimy and yuk!!!!

Or, KFC. 6 piece chicken strips, both sides mashed potato. Brown beans for the side? No, the potatoes. Potato wedges? No, MASHED POTATOES w/brown gravy. The cost of the meal was $8+. He asked for $5 something. For the chicken strip meal? No, for the chicken wings. NOW, HOW IN THE HOLY HECK DID HE EVEN COME UP WITH WINGS? I guess, in the language he normally uses, potato sounds like beans, and strips sound like wings? I dunno.

Don't even THINK to order a #4 with ketchup only, and a #4 with mustard, ketchup no onions. God only knows what you are going to get if you order special like you are supposed to be able to. Sonic has a burger that comes w/mayo and mustard. But you can ask for ketchup. So I say w/mayo, mustard and ketchup. I got that, but they didn't bother w/the lettuce, tomato and pickle that normally comes on the sandwich. So, next time I list ALL the things, and they are "huh?" I give up!!!!

Thanks BoB. I will do that. Poppa is such a softee he won't make them pay all year if they're not living there. No one could have done the damage the last 2 tenants did! Unbelievable! They were single mothers. I'll opt for students. They couldn't be worse. One of the single fragile little moms cost us a furnace. Long story. Groan groan groan. The other one thought it'd be a good idea to move her couch over the 2nd floor porch and ripped off some of the siding. Also thought it was chic to nail her drapes to the woodwork around the windows. well one time I took pictures of both MV and lake michigan and no one could tell the difference. both beach pictures. pretty cool. Grand rapids is the big city about 45 minutes east of us. very busy. we do not go there but once every couple of years because we have to. We live in a small tourist town that really grows in the summer. I think she was a grape woman lol

I put the bacon in the microwave to. 30 seconds a slice. But DH loves them cooked on the pan and real crunchy. well I have been watching the food channel which that alone is a mistake and I watched this one chef put 16 slices on a baking sheet into the oven at 400 for 18-20 min. And they came out perfectly cooked and crisp. And here we have been flipping and flipping. if it works I will not flip again........sara

You're making me cry Amy!! I can't take it I tell ya! Food is so important to me. I can lose my appetite so fast at the slightest insult. When I don't get what my mind tells me I want, I lose all desire to eat. After I order I usually make them repeat it back to me the way I say it and half the time, they say it wrong. I want to say, "Excuse me? Put the crack down and listen one more time."

That 2 lane thing sounds like a real Cluster Feck.

well one time I took pictures of both MV and lake michigan and no one could tell the difference. both beach pictures. pretty cool.

I do love to travel. should have been an agent.

Ahh tourist town :) I love that! I don't imagine the natives love it but I do. Your'e a Gemini? I would have never thunk :hat:

I dunno.

I haven't talked to one single person who understands the 2 lane thing. I haven't seen that in any other place I have been (altho I will admit I have not seen all the McD's drive-thru's this wonderful nation has to offer, lol.) The "city" has about 25,000 folks, and is a shopping area for outlying counties, but still not anything big. There are McD's, Sonic, Burger King, Subway, and Pizza Hut on both the east side of town and the west side of town, to say nothing of another dozen or so eateries, some fast food type, others sit-down. What do we need of something "big city" (I guess) in small town America? It's not even like it makes the lines move faster. It takes you as long to get to the windows as it does if there is only one order box. Come to think of it, I haven't seen TWO clerks @ the ordering station, so what is the purpose?

Oh, well, as a former boss of mine used to say when I wondered about something (and I'm always wanting to know "why"--I guess I'm still a toddler @ heart, lol) "Amy, does the answer to that affect your life in any way? If it doesn't, just don't worry about it!!!!":D She was right, you know. Just go with the flow, you live longer that way.

The GEMINI Woman

Linda Goodman's take on Gemini Women.

Have you always secretly thought Brigham Young had a sensational idea when he advocated several wives for one man? Do you inwardly envy the Eastern potentates with their harems? You needn't resign yourself to romantic Walter Mitty daydreams. Just marry a Gemini girl. That way, you'll be guaranteed at least two different wives, and on occasional weekends, as many as three or four.

Naturally, there's a small catch. It's hard to get her to settle down long enough to take passion or anything else very seriously. Her mind is always traveling, and she keeps up a pretty good running commentary simultane*ously. But look a little deeper. Somewhere, hidden among the several women who make up one Gemini female, is a romantic one-one who is capable of intense passion, if you can manage to make the mental, spiritual and physical blending complete. How to develop her and still enjoy all the other women bottled up inside the Geminian person*ality may create a problem. I can tell you that one Gemini girl equals several women. But I'm afraid it's up to you to delve into the advanced algebra of sorting them out. Each individual case is different.

Her age will be an important clue to what you can expect, because until she matures, romance is only a game to her. She can be fickle and unpredictable to an incredible degree. First she'll be ecstatically carried away by your smile and your voice, even the way you walk. Then she'll reverse her ecstasy and criticize everything from your socks to your haircut, and she usually does it with such clever, sharp sarcasm, you may need iodine for your wounds. Now, don't let this put you out of the market for a Gemini woman. Remember you're getting at least two for one, and that's indisputably a bargain.

Mercury females aren't as heartless as they seem to be 'at times. Their active imaginations create many fantasies. Romance is the easiest way they can express them, and Geminis have at least twice as much to express as other women. A Gemini man can be a producer, a singer, a sailor, a lawyer, an actor, a salesman and the chairman of a few boards of directors all at once-and express himself ad infinitum. But a woman can't very well swing all that, or she would be considered a little freakish. Not that Mercury girls don't pursue careers. They do. Almost every last one of them. But under the existing conditions of society, a career still doesn't offer her as many opportunities as romance to try out her myriad theories and practice her emotional gymnastics.

The Gemini girl needs your pity, not your anger. It's painfully difficult for her to really commit herself to one person at a time. While she's being impressed with a man's mental abilities and his intelligent wit, another side of her is noticing his antipathy toward the arts or his lack of response to music and poetry. When she finds someone who's appropriately creative, who's at home at the ballet or in the literary world, the duality pops up again. Right in the middle of a stroll through the museum, her other self will begin to wonder if he's practical enough to make a living or if he has enough common sense to know where he's going. I trust you're beginning to have a more sympa*thetic understanding of the conflicts peculiar to those born in June.

Give her credit. Shell usually manage to keep her be*wilderment at her own complex character to herself, and not burden you with it. She's a lively and gay companion. Most of the time (when the mood is on the up-swing), she'll sparkle with a vivacious personality, amuse you with her clever, witty remarks, and converse intelligently about almost any subject under the sun. She enjoys all the senti*mental gestures of romance and has no trouble making conquests. No woman you've ever met will delight you with more imaginative ways of loving you and such appeal*ing charm. She can flutter her lashes with delicate femi*ninity, but she's not at all helpless when it comes to earning her own living. A Gemini woman can play the giddy party girl to perfection, flattering a helpless, trapped male right out of his mind and his bank book. But she can smoothly change into a demure and adoring housewife, from which she can quickly switch into a serious intellectual who studies the great philosophers and talks about politics or poetry brilliantly, then suddenly turn into a bundle of raw emotion, full of nerves, tears and fears. She's certainly not stuffy or monotonous.

If you think this is an exaggeration, remember the late Marilyn Monroe. Every man she ever knew, from Carl Sandburg to her hairdresser, saw her as a totally different person than the other men who thought they knew her, too. Place a photograph of her as the seductive love god*dess next to a picture of her wearing horn-rimmed glasses, a babushka and no make up, seriously intent on a lecture about Russian authors. Then add a third and fourth shot of her in a gingham apron, learning to bake a cheese soume for a husband whose athletic talents and warm, human qualities she worshiped-and walking sedately beside an*other husband whose intellectual abilities and literary talent she deeply respected and admired. Add two more photos. One showing her with a tear-stained face, full of longing, after losing her third baby-another shot of her in a bikini, gaily laughing with a handsome French movie star on the Riviera. These are not posed pictures. They were snapped when she wasn't even looking, let alone seeking publicity. It's a perfect example of the eye of the camera exposing all the women contained in one Gemini female, who suc*cessfully kept her multiple nature hidden behind the image she chose to project the most frequently.

You'll find her a great pal. The Mercury girl will go along with you on anything from scuba diving to speed racing-bicycling or badminton. She'll show an interest in all the outdoor sports, and still manage to look as soft and feminine as a powder puff, with a mind as fast as a whip. The Geminian sharp mentality will show clearly when her curiosity is excited by any new subject. Her Mercurial mind will let her see all the intricacies of your creative ideas, and she'll probably throw in a few promotional schemes of her own. As long as you don't demand con*sistency from her, she'll be completely fascinating.

It's only fair to warn you that this girl can sincerely believe she's in love, and find other men attractive at the same time. Unless she's near you all the time, she can forget you quicker than a woman born under any other Sun sign.Once you've proposed to her and she's accepted, you can pity all those men who are doomed to a life of monogamy with just one woman. You'll have several wives when you marry your Gemini.

Wife Number One will be able to adjust to anything you require of her. If you require faithfulness, she can manage that, too, providing you're interesting enough to have won her real love. I refer to that blending of mental, spiritual and physical compatibility, with the physical part added last, like the paprika, after the other three are well mixed. This wife will never sulk if you take a new job out of town. With her ingenuity, taste and sense of color, she can make a new home look lovely with a light touch of her dainty, clever hand. Besides, she'll love the adventure, and there will be no nagging reproaches that you're gambling with future security. The excitement of new horizons inter*ests her more. She may have a surprisingly good head for business and she'll back all your original ideas. You can count on her to go to work if you need extra income, and she'll be pretty practical about how to spend it. Although she may give an outward impression of flightiness, she's not as nighty as she appears. She's a thinker, and a very clever one, underneath all the bright small talk.

Amy I would not even go to the first one above. I mean the wrong prices is a given at 2 merging lanes. What were they thinking!?!?!?!?!?:cuss:

You sound like you have more problems than me. It is still so aggravating to order exactly what you want and there is a problem with the person at the box. sometimes I make them repeat the order before I move ahead which is not a guarantee but better odds after all the confusion. Since I am no longer working we really have stopped going to fast foods for the most part but every once in a while I get a craving. We do not have sonic yet. One just opened an hour away from here. Interesting they only use mayo and mustard. sounds real strange without the other stuff......IMO sara

The 2 lane McD is on the east side, and I live in a town just outside the west side city limits. I do most of my stuff on the west side just because I am so tired, I don't want to traipse off in the other direction before heading for home. That, and the 2 lane place has even irritated my kids to no end. I tell them if they want ME to pick something up from McD's it will be west side or they can forget it!!!! Even if we are on the east side, they will have to wait til we are on the way home.

I don't have a clue why the ordering info says mayo and mustard, especially since it seems the norm would be mustard and ketchup. The sandwich was supposed to come w/the other stuff, just some idiot wrote the condiments and either that idiot or the cook idiot took it to mean leave everything else off. That was on the east side Sonic, too. As I say, I mostly go to the west side places. They don't seem quite so thick in the head on the west side, lol!!!!

I do have to go to the east Dillons tho, for salad bar, or for chinese food. The west side for some reason got rid of everything except the basic deli. Or, what we in Kansas call the deli--fried or baked chicken, some regular, some with a chipotle thing (looks like it was sprinkled w/paprika, lol) and bbq. Then, mashed potato and gravy, mac and cheese, creamed green beans (or is it supposed to be green bean casserole?) Maybe some bbq ribs. Breaded okra. Mostly, by the end of the day, that all looks pretty dried out and gross. They also have a bunch of bowls of salads and this and that on ice in the case. From what I can tell, they put what wasn't sold back in the fridge and set it out the next day. For sure and I haven't ever taken anything from that part!!!!!

So, east Dillons for salad and chinese, but the gas pumps are @ the west store only. How inconvenient, but if I want my 10cent discount, I gotta do what I gotta do!!!

I think the kids working in franchise eateries here are the ones who are too young and/or to incompetent to get a job in a regular eatery.

The thing that most people don't realise is, the SUN sign is the sum total, or rather the base personality. All the planets were somewhere at birth and they also influence the personality. In order to get a correct assessment of the person, the entire chart has to be considered. But if you know the traits of all the signs, you can pretty much figure out the Sun sign which looms large when you interact with someone. I enjoy astrology. It's fun.

Gemini is an air sign and air signs are bright little stars :) Witty, communicative, funny, very intelligent, logical, and often engaged in conversation. God love em, we need um!

Unlike water signs (Pisces,Cancer, Scorpio) who are more emotional and not to attached to earth. They have another way of seeing. They are mainly the artists among other things. We need them too.

Earth signs like Taurus, Virgo and Capricorn keep the world in order. They know how to attack a problem. Thank you!!! lol!

Fire signs are the leaders. They wake us up to what can be, and they move mountains. Leo, Aries, Sagittarius. Yayus! Napoleon said, "The impossible just takes a little longer" He was a Leo.

I think the kids working in franchise eateries here are the ones who are too young and/or to incompetent to get a job in a regular eatery.

Out here kids are having a hard time getting any job. People laid off from industries and such have been trying to get waiter jobs in the hope of meeting people who can give them jobs back in their field. Adult immigrants have the paper delivery jobs now. As for fast food-I don't know when I last saw a teenager doing the burger flipping. It's all adult immigrants.

The only place in my area I see kids working is the concessions at the zoo.

We have the same thing here too Bob-those who have lost jobs are taking ones that most students did. I had kind of a funny experience at a drive thru last week. Tin Hortons coffee shops. One on every corner here and all seem to be busy. I went thru the drive thru for a coffee. When you order they first tell you of the feature of the day-it may be a new doughnut or a sandwich etc. Anyhoo the kid sang it. I laughed my azz off. When i got to the window i asked if this was a new gimmick. The young fella said no we just thought we would change it up a bit :)

So far, the fast food places are still staffed with a number of high school kids here. There are usually a few older ones (like 25 or so, lol) I guess as managers. During the day when school is in session there are more of the workers who look to be in their 30's or so.

I just finished up the eggplant parm for tomorrow. 4 huge eggplants! I sliced them the long way after I peeled them. I think they taste better that way. I ate at least ten pieces as I laid them out on the paper towel to drain.. All now ready to go in the fridge.

I'm waiting for the peppers sausage, onions and mushroom medley to cook now. Tomorrow morning I will cook the gnocchi with pink sauce. That's a special order from my weebs.

I so love to cook. Wish I knew how to cook American food. I usually screw it up. My food is easy to cook, throw in this and throw in that, nonja you worry, it'sa no problemo! Aftah you mongia, you shuddupa you face, you be happy. ;) Eat!

Here too Amy. Same. I noticed anyone who works like they are supposed to work, get promoted within a short time, like a week. Then they get haughty and turn on their stupid hats. One day while at the drive thru at Walt's Roast Beef, I got a bird's eye view of the dumpster. There were 3 guys with aprons on passing a joint from one to the other. Groan..

Oh well, I guess they were on their break and who am I to tell them to work. They don't have to do anything they don't want to do. Besides, they're entitled and this is America after all.

You gotta worka some moe! :punch:

I think one of the problems is that they don't KNOW what WORK is. Somewhere along the line, it seems that what I want to do is what should be considered work for me. My Daddy taught us kids that--this is the job to be done, this is how to do it. I will be back in x amount of time, it better be done!!! (We worked for Daddy, as most kids in our area did--driving tractor in most cases. With us, we did cemetary work and school janitorial work also, cuz that's what Daddy did.)

Several years ago, there were new nurse aides hired for the OB department. They clean the delivery rooms, which includes cleaning the warmers for the babies. I KNOW they were taught thorough, correct cleaning methods by the older, established aides who took pride in doing their work, and doing it right. I would come across a warmer that obviously had not been cleaned. Because I worked in another department (NBICU) I asked the charge nurse in OB to make the corrections with her staff. Time would go by, and I went to the charge nurse on several occasions. The outcome? Because I "complained" the NBICU nurses would now have to clean the warmers. WHAT THE HECK EVER HAPPENED TO MAKING SURE THE AIDES KNEW WHAT TO DO, AND THAT THEY HAD TO DO IT? I knew I should have just gone to the aides myself to let them know what was expected. The OB charge nurse didn't want to confront anyone.

AND, in the 70's, when I went into nursing, you knew it was a 24/7, 365 work situation. You knew that the newest folks are going to end up on the evening and night shifts. You knew you would be pulling weekends and holidays. The shifts have to be covered. About 10 years ago, there was some big meeting where the VP for nursing was telling us how priorities are different for the young folks than it was for us (@ the time, 30's and 40's) and that their priority was family (like ours wasn't) and having nights, weekends and holidays for their family time was a priority (like it wasn't for us old folks.) I'm thinking, so our work ethic is different from theirs--does this mean us old folk will be doing all the off shifts and weekends and holidays so the younger folks don't have to?????? I never understood that--if they wanted to work in the hospital which always pays better than clinic, nursing home, county health, school nurse, home health, etc, then they damn well better make up their minds that they have to put in the same type of schedule as anyone else. Otherwise, go to the Mon-Fri work place and be done with it!!!!!

It used to be: This is the job. These are the things that you are responsible for doing. This is how you will do these jobs. Any questions? Now, I have nothing against people finding different ways to accomplish a task, as long as the end result is the same, and if the shortcuts don't compromise things like possibility of infection, etc. But to just not do something because s/he doesn't like that particular task---either do the job, or you're fired and I'll hire someone who is willing to do what is needed.

I remember getting criticized for how I did or did not perform my job. It hurt my feelings, I used to get defensive, but I went ahead with my job, and tried to make sure I corrected my actions so there would be no more criticism (which was mostly contructive criticism, as it should be.) But, these days, so many kids take it as a personal affront, even when it is tactfully done, don't pay attention to the fact that they were doing the job wrong, and get in a huff. The end result seems to be, well, someone else will need to do that job, s/he just won't do it anymore. Again, IMO, if they aren't going to do the job right, they are not productive, especially if the rest of us have to pick up their slack in addition to our already full plates. They should be let go.

Just my particular pet peeve rant. :D

Excellent post Amy!! Hospitals are my pet peeve too! I know why good nurses burn out. Absolutely!

My brother was in a motorcycle accident in 1974. He sustained a brain stem injury and was in a coma for 10 months. My sister is a nurse. She worked at that hospital and refused to leave him the first week. We had to take her clothes and food and when she was on duty, she was in his room all the time. She watched the nurses aides like a hawk and at times went after them for not washing their hands. He got a blood infection and began having seizures so badly his back was arching off the bed. THe Dr argued with my sister who was sure it was due to an infection (his temp was up) and he claimed it was the brain damage. Big fight!

It was an infection. Sloppy nursing care. After three months the hospital wanted him out of there. (Wanted US OUT of there too) They made arrangements for him to go to a nursing home. We, as a family fought to take him home, AMA. Had to go to court. We won. He woke up and ate meatballs. ;)

He is a paraplegic and cannot talk, is 52 years old, but he's alive and is able to communicate via computer. He is also in a relationship. My sister isn't.

My mom dedicated what was left of her life to his care. (20 some years) She had contractors build him a handicap apartment attached to her home, he does okay. He gets out of bed himself by using a fireman's pole (NO DANCING) next to his bed with 30% use of his left side.

Those doctors told us to go home and forget him when he didn't wake up after his skull was drained of fluids and he said these exact words: "Stop paying vigil to who he was, your brother is a potato, he will never wake up."
Boy was he wrong!!!!!

I've had some pretty bad experiences in hospitals but they saved my life and so many good things happen there too. It's just scary to see some of the workers do the things they do. So many airheads with diploma's in that world.

Your daddy gave you a great gift! Work ethics!

That happened in the 80's J when my kids were small. It was hard. Things change, they always do. When I got desperate I put an ad in the small newspapers advertising house cleaning. It worked. I printed out flyers and dropped them in mail boxes in rich areas. You would not believe the money in that. Career women don't like to clean their houses. There are many small businesses, even now, where the husband and wife team up and do that for a living. Poppa insures a lot of them. I don't know about your area, but it works here. However, my SIL who lives in Salinas Ca has 2 Mexicans cleaning her house for 1/2 the price I would have charged for the same kind of house. That's not good. Cheap labor.

Thanks Beem. That was a huge learning experience. Lots of stubborn faith did it for sure. We all carry a load baby.. no one gets off the train without one. Why my brother got that deck handed to him  But it taught me a lot.

Funny thing, he met a lady online who comes from Ohio. He invited her to come to see him. She did. The following year, she came back to stay. She is an angel (I think my mother sent her) and she adores him. Helps him in so many ways. Her life was so empty she said, and so lonely. His life was too. My little rant about medicine cabinets.

I have two medicine cabinets in this house that do not open with a doorknob.
You have to push the mirror and it springs open. Every day (I mean EVERY day), I have to spray them and clean them because poppa uses his thumb to open the door.

With the new bathroom going in, I am picking out fixtures and just told him I hate those medicine cabinets. What ever happned to medicine cabinets with doors? I don't want another one of those pop open things. I said, Who the hell invented those stupid things? He said, I dunno, a guy with no thumbs?

Groan.. Men.

Last night I had a rant over cottage cheese. This is what a poppa nawny fight looks like.

Why did you eat the cottage cheese with the pineapple?

Poppa: I thought you got that for me.

Whaddiyamean? You know that was mine, your's is the no fat kind.

Oh

I was so looking forward to that tonight!

I'm sorry

I'm sorry too..... YOU BUM!

Do you want me to plant those yellow flowers tomorrow on the walkway?

No, I want Cottage Cheese with pineapple.

I love you

I love you too, and that's not an answer.

Okay, I'll plant the yellow flowers.

I figured the more rural areas had it even rougher, I'm sorry... If it helps any, I have noticed that houses here are suddenly selling again, and fast, which may mean the housing turnaround is coming, and therefore, more construction will kick in. Hang in there! Obviously with the legal stuff going on with Mariuana people are rushing to get a head and get their money and their recreational drug legally. That is too bad. California is not a good place for fires to begin with. Must be those black lights. IMO sara

What I don't get is that people in the room are not reacting as I would. I mean, none of them. They just sit there, no one is mouthing wtf? to each other, nada.

This is one of my favorite city council quotes from back in my Berzerkeley days: "[Personhole] is not an acceptable de-sexed word."
--Shirley Dean, councilperson from the Berkeley, (California) City Council, explaining why the Council changed the wording in a sewer equipment request back to manhole cover (http://www.bibble.org/quotes/politics.html) There had been long discussion on the sexist nature of "manhole" prior to this, leading to the change that was changed. I found "personhole" to be far more disturbing, as apparently Shirley Dean did too. :D

Well I think the audience may not have been paying attention or just wrote her off as another kook. You have to love youtube. the video people were losing it. that was funny.

I cannot believe people are thinking clearly when they start referring to mancovers as something to be sex-related or not. that is when I do not ask why but simply "they must have something better to do with their time and mind!!!""' sewer request. LOLOLOL Berkeley has got to be fun. sara

One can find good gender free terms that don't sound ridiculous if they just put on their thinking caps.

When I write in English I always look for them.

In Heboo it isn't possible, everything is gender linked.

I get so tired of hearing things renamed like this. Political correctness needs to go far, far away, IMO. For criminitly sake, the world moved along without problems with the way most things are named. Even when the name is changed, people STILL use the old name, because no one knows what you're talking about if you use the new name. I'd be sayin "Personhole? Is that anything like ***** hole? Whatcha mean?" Actually, as I was skimming thru, I tho't I read piehole--and wouldn't that be worse? lol

I haven't heard anything for a couple of years now, but some time back, it would seem that a whole lot of sports teams in the US was going to have to change their names. Couldn't use Indians, gee, some Indians might get upset. Of course, I never heard or read about any Indians making a complaint. Oh, heavens, the team down the road are called the Devils. How horrible. I don't think it upset the Christian folks, in fact, I'm not sure it upset anyone. But someone brought up that those who follow Satanism might be offended--altho, again, I don't recall there being any actual reports where someone stepped up and said they were. Wonder if all the birds (Orioles, Cardinals, etc) might be offended and upset? And even names like Warriors and pirates, wonder who is going to be offended by having a sports team named after them. I didn't realize folks would be upset, I always tho't it was supposed to be kind of an honor to have a team named after you.

Linda GOodman's take on The Leo Woman

She's not a wallflower. She's a sunflower.

Most likely, she'll be the social leader of her group, lording it over lesser women like a queen, but with such disarming warmth and such a beautiful smile, no one really minds. Perhaps the other girls sense she was born to rule and dictate styles, customs and manners. Anyway, it wouldn't do much good to try to usurp her authority.

Nature seems to have shown some prejudice when she fashioned the lioness with enough vivacity, cleverness, grace, beauty, and just plain sex appeal for at least three women, with some left over. The man who expects a Leo girl to worship at his feet is living in a fool's paradise. Consider yourself lucky if she meets you halfway, respects you, is willing to be your partner and allows you to possess her emotionally. She's rather a luxury item, not available in the bargain basement.

She may have a voice like a whisper, gentle, courteous manners and big, soft eyes that sparkle delight*fully when she bats her lashes. A Leo female can appear to be as smooth and calm as a cool and placid lake. On guard. That's just a role she assumed because it got good reviews. Remove her as the star of your love production, cast her in the part of the understudy or second lead, and you'll soon find out just how shy and submissive she isn't. Of course, most of the Leo women to whom you pay homage will openly make it clear that they're too proud and dignified to take any nonsense. I'd just hate to see you stumble in case you get involved with the other kind of lioness, who hides her claws, but sharpens them every day just the same.

When courting her, please be original and creative. Phrases like "You send me, Baby," and "You're really cool, sweetheart," will get you thrown right out of the palace, back with the peasants, Vulgarity and slang both leave her ice cold. Remember, you're wooing royalty. A Leo woman couldn't love you if you weren't strong. It's just that she won't permit you to insult her with a condescending attitude. In her mind, she is definitely not the weaker sex.

She'll probably shower you with almost as many gifts as you give her. But she's just plain uncomfortable in shabby sur*roundings. Now and then she may go slumming, out of curiosity, but only as a spectator, aloof from the crowd. Poverty de*presses her and makes her physically ill. If you dress like a slob and offer her a shack, you haven't got a chance.

Leo woman who's warmly loved and respected can be the kindest and most generous of females, with a womanly compassion for children and for the helpless and the forsaken. You can't really expect her to step down from a throne that's her birthright. If she's a typical Sun child, she's so gracious and dazzling that most people gladly give her credit for being out of the ordinary. Truthfully, she is. She's intelli*gent, witty, strong, and capable, yet deliciously feminine at the same time. No one in his right mind could call that common.

And here's another secret, if you plan to marry her: eventually, she'll tire of her gilded cage and want to roam the jungle to see what's doing with all the other cats out there. Confinement inside four walls and under one roof can soon rob her of her sparkle. Let her have her career. Shell wither on the vine if she's forced to be just a haus-frau, unless you have enough money to allow her to be a constant hostess and an extravagant home decorator.

The Leo girl usually makes a jewel of a wife. You'll sel*dom see her dressed frumpily in a tatty bathrobe, wearing curlers and wrinkle cream. Not that she skips the beauty treatments. But few lionesses like to do their own hair. A shampoo and set makes them feel pampered, and feeling pampered does something for every Leo.

Her wardrobe can be quite extensive. She can look luscious in evening gowns, dripping with sequins and rhinestones, or low-cut, dressy outfits. But she'll probably prefer casual clothes and sportswear, if she's a typical Leo girl. She likes tailored cuts and rich materials, but not necessarily frills and ruffles. Soft cashmeres, good Italian knits and im*ported English tweeds are her favorites. Her taste is usually excellent, if a bit expensive.

You'll find her a superb hostess when you bring the boss home for dinner. He'll think you're a genius to have won her. She'll probably make a hit with his wife, too, because the lioness is popular with both men and women, and each sex gets treated to her friendly smile and her outgoing personality equally. Anyone who happens to be standing in her bright sunlight feels the warmth. Leos seldom cast a shadow.

As a mother, shell pour love on her children generously and lavish affection on them. It won't be easy for her to see their faults, but when she does, she'll be strict. Since she can't stand being taken for granted, if the children don't respect her she can pout in regal silence. Many Leo mothers have a peculiar way of spoiling the child without sparing the rod, quite a contradiction when you think about it. She may romp and play with her cubs, have long, chummy talks with them, but shell also teach them to snap to attention like soldiers, polish their manners, and be obedient to their elders. At the same time, there's a danger of providing a shade too much spending money, and giving in to requests for luxuries. In a way, you might say she treats her offspring like petted members of a royal family, deeply loved, but expected to mind their p's and q's, especially in public. She'll be fiercely proud of their accomplishments, and heaven help the outsider who at*tempts to hurt them or judge them unfairly. With all this, she won't smother the youngsters. She's too independent to hover over them every second. She'll lead her own life, keeping a watchful eye out for her cubs, from a distance. Many Leo women are working mothers, but their young*sters seldom starve for attention. The career-minded Leos usually manage to balance motherhood and a job with perfect aplomb.

There are times when she'll lose her dignity and poise and become a rollocking, playful lioness, with a flair for pure slapstick. She can roar with laughter like a healthy animal, but when the moment is gone, the satin voice and regal bearing return. No one can squelch a fresh re*mark or a rude question with as much cold contempt as a Leo female. She doesn't appreciate familiarity from stran*gers. Although she'll clown around and be surprisingly casual with intimates, outsiders are expected to keep their place.

In the area of faithfulness, the Leo woman may remind you of the old toast, "Here's to me and here's to you, and here's to love and laughter-I'll be true as long as you- not a single minute after." Enough said.

Your lioness could be anything from an actress to a surgeon.

One of my best friends and favorite Leos is a well-known New York psychiatrist. Granted, it's a career which permits her to lecture and advise (Leo's favorite pastime), but she gives her counsel with such a warm smile, sparkling eyes and deep compassion, her patients feel better just being in the same room with her. Her husband pays her all the respect and adoration she demands as her royal right, but he has a profession of his own to match hers. He's a gifted writer and poet, talents which always impress the senti*mental Leo. They share equal billing in front of the foot*lights, yet he's the man and the boss behind the scenes. A perfect success formula for taming the lioness.

And that's the key to a smooth relationship with your Leo girl. Don't let her smother you-but don't try to top her. Just paste a big, bright star on her dressing room door, and puff up your ego. You're quite a guy, you know-to have won the hand of the proud lioness. Tell me, how did you manage to do it?

 ;)

Holy crips what a shock I received yesterday. My mother and I attended a bridal shower in Palm Beach for my nephew's fiancee. We met the girl before, spent many occassions with her. She and my nephew are living with my brother until their house is finished. My brother loves to cook and bake. Needless to say the bride has gained a few pounds. She's very petite, barely five feet tall. Well she walked into the restaurant and I was  After about thirty seconds of staring, I turned to my mother and she was

I said to Mom "who does she look" and before I finished my mom said "CCCCasey Anthony!) She couldn't even say it. We spent about another minutes with our feet glued to the same spot and our mouths hanging open.:eek: They could be twins!! The bride has changed her hair: stopped highlighting it so it's very dark and parted on the side. She now has little chip monk cheeks. She needs to put her hair back to the way it was and get rid of those cheeks, nose and puffy lips..

:seeya: Gotta go out and put a piece of swordfish on the grill for poppa!

Oh, this is going to get me in trouble. My favorite restaurant that is not an upscale on is Hooters. My wife and I ate there a lot at Myrtle Beach. I have eaten at Hooters in 6 states. The girls that work there are young enough to be my daughters and I treat them that way. My food has never been late, never been wrong and my glass has never been empty. The food is always good. What else can one ask for?

I ate at one in Rockford Ill. once and there was a girls 15 and under national softball tournament going on and there were three teams in there. It was great. I helped a team from CA win the triva contest and there bill was free. There were 25 people in that party. My waitress was talking to me and asked where I was from. When I told her she about dropped her teeth. She grew up in my home town. Thousands of miles away and we knew some of the same people. That was cool.

LOL!! Sara Gemini always fools me! The only thing that is always a true clue is, they stay young longer than any other sign. My MIL was a Gemini and she never looked her age. Ritalin is always wasted on Gemini. lol! They are constantly moving. Can't help it. :)

That would be me.

We were in Tempe at ASU and wandered upon a Hooters and i said to my son lets go-he's a wings luver too. I had no issue going in there with my son. Nor did he with me. Huge sign warning folks if ya hassle the girls your out. Always seems respectable to me:beer:

Yep, if you don't treat the girls with respect you get bounced. Quick. I played in a charity golf tournament sponsered by the Myrtle Beach Hooters a long time ago and two of the teams got "bounced" for remarks they made. Not to worry, they raised $25,000 for the Hospice there that day. That was just what they announced. There was more money that came in the days following from businesses in the area.

There is more "skin" shown on the beach there than in Hooters, a lot more.

Yep thats for sure. Boys did not bother going back today with the weather reports. Matty just missed the cut- he did very well. I watched re-runs of last years open in hopes the play would resume. Then i watched the Senior tourney

Ai won the Evian Masters. Paula Cremer finished tied for 5. Thought she was going to make a run but she didn't. I don't know where Morgan finished but I am sure I can ask my son and he will know.

I couldn't get in touch with my son but his Myspace says he missed another hole in one by two inches. He is a little bummed about that. It would have been his second and this, I am sure, was on a somewhat more difficult course. He said he has shot in the 70's in his last three rounds. He seems to be getting better.

Hey, I go to Hooters too-can you believe there is one in SF? But the food is good, and the waitresses are always nice (probably helps that I am not there to leer. I feel sorry for them when they deal with those idiots!) Bu most of the time its just a great friendly family atmosphere. So what if they wear athletic clothing? I like the fried pickles.

Being a woman, I've felt a little odd to go in, but if the food is good and at the right price, I guess I'll have to try it.

Yeah, don't worry! It's not weird at all. I was in the Anaheim one during the Series they won, and it was one of the best inadvertent parties I'd been to. Of course, they were playing the Giants, but I couldn't root for my team while Barry Bonds was on it, you know? We all knew what was up with that.

My favorite is the frilled chicken salad. Kinda freaks them out when I order it. I saw one of the waitress get a $400 tip from a group of golfers at MB one day. It rained and they couldn't play golf so they sat a Hooters for three hours and ate and drank. (all but one of them) She was treated nice and gave good service and was rewarded. Those guys were old enough to be her grandpa.

At the one in Charlotte, NC I saw the girl take the orders from three parties without writing anything down. Wondered what I was going to get after all that. She got every one of the orders correct. Right person, right table, right food. I asked her if she was a student at the university there and she said yes. She was working on her Masters Degree in business. So much for the thoughts of "dumb blondes." She was cool too.

You find out all sorts of things hanging in the girl's room there!

Those hose that they are wearing with their shorts is dancer's hose. No skin visible at all. They are basically wearing an American Burka, lol! But its all about the illusion, huh? Nothing wrong with Hooters, either the organization or the girls, imo.

I asked to take a picture of one of them in Charlotte and she wanted to know why. I told her she looked like an early version of my MIL. She did too. Just like her. I brought the picture home to show my MIL and she thanked me. They really did look alike. The first time I saw her I flipped my lid.

she thought I was crazy until I showed her a picture of my MIL. Then she got this real funny look on her face and let me take her picture. I had her as a waitress several months later and she asked me what my MIL said (and what my wife said) I told her my MIL was as shocked as she was and my wife thought I was crazy until she looked at the picture. They looked enough alike to be sisters. I gotta pretty wife. Yep, I do.

I liked Itallian rest. around here until I went to Jericho NY on business and are at a small family Italian place up there. What we have here is like compareing Mcd's to a steak house. Whew, that was some great food!

Yes, especially the ear infection. The chemicals in the pool that he injested could have irritated his young intestinal lining. He'll be fine.

Ahhh Kay! I'll tell her. But the Dr Nastyface told her it was an "infection" SHe is still giving him chicken and rice. He's eating it no problem but he tried to get the sausage, meatballs and eggplant about twenty times today off the buffet table. I guess it smelled good to him. He was very active and playful today. Thanks for all your prayers.

The sun came out today and all went well. Nice gathering. For a barbecue, the burgers and dog never saw the light of day.

That would be me.

Whoa!!! Here ya go! Linda Goodman's take on LEO MAN!

The LEO Man
" 'Tis love-'tis love that nukes the world go round!"

When Gray wrote the lines about a flower "born to blush unseen and waste its sweetness on the desert air," he certainly wasn't describing a Leo. You might see this man basking in the bright sunlight, and you may find him mak*ing flowery speeches, but it won't be in the solitude of the desert. Most likely it will be on a stage or in front of a circle of adoring friends and relatives. He may waste money, but he's not about to waste his sweetness in the empty air. There will always be an audience.

There you are, in a nutshell. The secret of snaring the lion is that simple. Be his audience. Totally different from the reluctant Virgo and Aquarian males, your Leo pal will happily succumb to the throes of delicious romance, if you play your cards right, adore him, flatter him, and respect him.

Is he a flamboyant August male? Wear dark glasses and submit to his brilliant sunlight. Is he one of the gentle, quiet Leos? Don't be taken in by his sleek softness. Stroke him the wrong way and sparks will fly. Remember, he's only playing the role of the meek soul. Beneath his courte*ous manner and patient fixity are smoldering fires of proud dignity and arrogant vanity, ready to flame up and bum the pushy female silly enough to think she can rule him.

The lion will be a chivalrous and gallant suitor, tenderly protective and sentimentally affectionate. You won't need to lay much of a trap to tempt him into romantic advances. One might say Leos possess a kind of instant passion. Just add opportunity-mix well with candlelight and lush violins-and love's in bloom like the red, red rose. As a matter of fact, you can leave out the candles and music if they're not handy, and just use the first ingredient. Same thing.

If love is missing from his life, the fiery lion will simply pine away-dramatically, of course. He has to be wor*shiped or die, and you can just about take that literally. Leo males seldom spare expenses when they're courting. You'll be taken to the best restaurants, showered with per*fume and flowers, proudly escorted to the theater and you'll tie a ribbon around some pretty fantastic love letters. To tell you the truth, you'd have to have a heart made of stone to resist.

By now, you're probably thinking you've got it made.

Think again. That leonine romance won't be completely trouble free. You might take a lesson from the pampered favorites of royalty. Leo will invite you into his den and warm you at the hearth of his big heart, but the lion's lair can turn into a plush, luxurious prison. Is he jealous? The answer is "Yes," and you can spell it with big electric light bulbs. You belong to him, body, soul, and mind. He'll tell you what to wear, how to part your hair, what books to read, which friends are best for you and how to orga*nize your day better. He'll want to know why you were gone for two hours shopping when you said you'd be back in one hour, who you met on the way, what they said- and he'll even pout if you don't tell him what you're think*ing as you stare out the kitchen window while you're scrambling his eggs. After all, you could be thinking of another man. Just don't ever forget the force of his im*pulsive temper when it's aroused. Teasing him by occasional flirtations to prove to him you are still desirable is absolute folly. He knows you're desirable. He needs no proof whatsoever. Besides, your Leo man is liable to flatten your innocent masculine friends to the floor-if not put them in the hospital-when he's pushed too far.

All is not roses and honey in a love affair with a lion, and that includes the quiet pussycats along with the flashy torn cats. There's no difference in the basic nature. Every woman in love with a Leo should get a copy of Anna and the King of Siam and study it well. The Siamese monarch was a typical Leo and youll get invaluable tips from Anna's technique. First the provocative challenge to interest him, then final feminine submission after you've taught him you won't be completely devoured. Truly, her story is a must. Sleep with it under your pillow.

Be prepared to balance his great enthusiasms with calm reason and willing to soothe him as he blows up problems intr> hnop. (timensions. The eentle Leos do this quietly, but what's the difference? Whether he roars and rages because his employees refused to obey him, or pouts on the back porch because the neighbors snubbed him the end result is identical. He needs your stability to balance his irrational pride. If you don't possess it yourself, your love may turn into a constant battle royal. You'll be breaking up and making up with such speed that your astonished friends will ask, "Where's the fire?" Where? Why, right inside your cozy lion's den.

After you're married, mated, and deeply loved, count your rewards. Your Leo husband will be as kind and good-hearted as King Arthur, provided you let the family re*volve around him. If he gets the respect he demands, hell repay it by pouring out generosity. You may be told how lovely you look repeatedly, he'll probably give you a large allowance, and-wonder of wonders, with his romantic dis*position-he'll be likely to remain faithful. There's always a better chance of that after marriage than when he's single, and I'll tell you why. The lion is usually too lazy to chase pretty faces, once he's found a lioness who will capably run his kingdom, while he luxuriously snoozes in the hammock. Hell play affectionately with his cubs, pro*tect his mate from all danger, and thrill her with his ambition to rise to a position of impressive superiority in his career.

Don't try to be a career girl, he won't stand for it. He's your career!

Say what you will about the negative parts of Napoleon's life. He was a generous leader and held his men in his arms often during battle when they were injured. He prized possession was his famous sword and still, one day he found an orphaned little boy and to ease his sadness Napoleon gave that sword to him. He was known for tending to the wounded with his own hands. This is a great trait of Leo.

When he fell in love with Josephine and learned that she was unable to bear him children, he married a 17 year old Polish girl but always loved Josephine. If it is documented truly, it was Josephine who was by his side when he died.

I love that story.

Italian food is the easiest to cook. If you like pasta with red sauce and want it to be delicious, make a simple marinara sauce. It takes 15 minutes.

Put your water on to boil your pasta.
Take a frying pan, pour a bit of oil in it..
Chop a few cloves of garlic or ONION, your preference.
Fry um up a bit, add one can of crushed tomatoes.
Salt, pepper, a teaspoon of suger (if you want) No need for spices at all!
Cook till it bubbles a little.. it's done! That's it.
When the pasta is cooked so is the sauce. Strain your pasta, cover it with sauce.. wella!

Easy!
Delicious!
It's called quick sauce but it's so fresh and tasty!

Chop garlic

Okay, so...I dated one Leo, married another. The one I cut loose fit the description. But the one I married, not at all. Must be some planet in the Zippity-Do House or something that makes him different.
