Here in Fla they have residents' specials. Do they have them in CA too? It's not a lot, but it helps. There is also Lake Buena Vista which is the area where all the hotels, resorts and marketplace is located. You can get in for free and they have characters walking around there and some great restaurants and Disney stores. It is just beautiful during Christmas time and free.
Yeah, but only Southern California gets the discount...Buying those tickets was the most expensive part of the trip, because I pricelined a 4 star hotel for $40 a night by timing my bid for the night a convention's registration period ended so the extra rooms got released...sometimes I amaze even myself, lol!

I love the blue one too! I'm not allergic to down, nope. But it's kind of expensive for it not to be down. Look I'm talking myself out of it. It's also kind of contemporary and would look kind of out of place here. I have two spreads that are very old fashioned. I found one in a church sale in Cape Cod that really belongs here and the other one is from an old second hand store that was a real score. (You won't believe where I found that one) It is all hand crafted.
Then I have a few other quilts that are in good shape, but I can use that one folded on the foot of the bed. Okay I just talked myself back into it. I'm a bargain hunter and that catalog is a huge tease because everything in it is expensive. I think I'll play the lotto tomorrow. LOL!
You know Nawny you should be careful with the 2 quilts you have that are older. they could be worth more the older they get. they sound wonderful. I love anything from Cape Cod. I think you should buy the new one and use the other 2 for show/display and you still have a couple exra in case they get dirty or wear out. That is what I did with the one my Grandma made me. It is on the back of the couch. Colors are good with LR. but never used as a blanket. trying to hold off on wear and tear. I think the puffs keep it from being too contemporary. You could go either way with that one.......IMO Sara
PS I love everything at Crate and Barrel. I refuse to go to their website.......LOL

The project manager was funny that last week. He was so focused on finishing that project on time. We were down to the last week and about all we were doing was cleaning not any big work going on. I told him that when we make it through the week we would have topped 2 million hours he about crapped his pants. He is very safet focused he just doesn't look at the numbers very often. We got a safety prize at 1 million and he asked me what it was for. I guess he just takes care of things one day at a time. He left the plans to me. Good guy to work with.

Thank you Sara, I love our logic! When I want something and don't want to spend the money, I say, Life is short! It's only money and all that jazz. LOL! I am very careful with the hand made spreads. I hang them on the bedspread rack in my room. I know what you mean about preserving them. Yup.

Oh, this is such a touchy subject for me. I never had a facebook account until I started at this new job, after having worked 20 years with the Dept. of Corrections. I was required to open a facebook account with the new job. It was a complete nightmare for the first 2 weeks - former inmates had tracked me down. I'll also add to that, just regular people who I had no desire to make contact with also "found" me.
I finally figured out how to protect my account that no one can see anything unless they are a friend. But I don't want business/personal getting mixed together, either. I'm really not liking it, at all. So, the bottom line is, I have it to fulfill a company policy but I personally have nothing on it. No photo, no high school/college info - just a name and general area.

Lawmakers need to take note of what the psychologist said-- the recidivism rate is HIGH.
If I understood the reporter correctly, if she is found guilty on all charges, she is facing life? Too bad it isn't LWOP, cuz you know she will be back out, and any "rehab" programs she attends are most likely to be useless, and she will re-offend. Hopefully, by that time she will be so old and ugly that any child she approaches would run screaming from her.
Do you have an adult education program in your area? Sometimes counties offer them. My county stopped the adult dance program but because of that some dance studios started offering classes for grown-ups. My class has really grown in the past 5 years. Many people who took dance as kids, or in college, are coming back to it. It's a great stress reliever and fun. I have a very interesting group of ladies and 2 men. I always have men who complicate my life.
I had them for lunch today, with my salad. I know, strange combo. Fries and gravy are not common in NJ. My Canadian owned luncheonette makes them special for me. The owner was thrilled out of her mind that I requested them.
I know you miss him terribly - Hugs to you. Makes me hold mine a little closer.
And dance is a great way to exercise, aerobically (if that is a word.) Can get a lot of different moves in to work different areas, and to burn off some of those calories. I hear belly dancing is really great for losing, well, the belly!!! lol.
I try to eat somewhat healthy type foods. But, when it comes down to it, you can die crossing the street, driving your car, being an innocent bystander when a drive-by shooter comes along, or even some whacko with a grudge against the world. So, why make yourself miserable by eating twigs and leaves and tofu without some pleasure in eating. Well, I guess we would all be skinnier if we only ate "healthy" food--cuz we'd be eating a whole lot less, even of that. @ least I would be. Of course, I would be too weak to do things like exercise and work and stuff. Guess I could lay in my bed, nibble on some lettuce and die that way.
No one. Just commit a "white collar crime." I never could figure out that one. If you pull a bat on someone and take their money it is robbery, if you simply run a scheme, then it is a white collar crime.
Either that or be a politician. You will never hear of them going where they send everyone else. It isn't safe for them there. (please note sarcasm) It isn't safe for anyone there. That is because this country, as a whole, has lost the fact that one needs to take the consequences for whay they have done. Soooo when the stab someone WHILE THEY ARE IN JAIL, they simply get a slap on the wrist. Try the death house a couple of times and I'll bet you that will stop. Bring back the chain gang for EVERYONE and you will see a decrease in crime. They will not take a chance of going back. When they step out of line beat the ever lovin' poop out of them and they will get the message. They have more "rights" than you do.:flamemad:
Yep. Whether people like or don't like that sheriff in AZ? (I forget his name and state, etc) he certainly has the right idea. Work the holy crap out of the prisoners all day, then let them go to classes @ night. Heck, that's how most of the people have to get ahead these days.
You want air conditioning and roast beef? Keep your nose clean and work to get out of prison or jail, and then get a job to pay for these things. Some people have to have 2 jobs to pay for these things. It's a fact of life.
Make it so they will follow the straight and narrow when they get out, because that will be easier than what they have to live thru in prison. They should surely come out with a work ethic, and that's what a whole lot of people need these days. This is your job. This is how you perform your job. This is your schedule. Be here. Do your job. If you are here and do your job right, here is your paycheck.

Yes Sara, windows are all in. Now they're painting the outside of the window woodwork where they took the old storms off. No more storm windows. We have the thermopanes thingies now. Tomorrow they have to touch up the woodwork that got nicked up and after next week they start the big project. I'll be whining a lot then. Messy messy, but it has to happen. I'll be grateful for all my friends here who can turn me off with a click of a keyboard. LOL! But it helps to whine in print. ;) All the whinebagging goes into cyber space and lands in some serendipity hole somewhere. :)
We'd love to live vicariously thru your posts. I'm sure you will get a lot of sympathy from here.

When Son moved into town (ever so briefly) he wanted to take his cat w/him. The cat got up under the dashboard (under the glove compartment) and son grabbed his tail. I had to stop so he could retrieve the cat. I didn't know there is open space under there, that lead to the motor, etc.

Got Facebook a couple of weeks ago, but haven't been there much. I guess I'd rather spend my time on message boards (and some days I don't even get thru them!!!) and my games.
DD keeps up with friends, relatives and enemies on those sites. Even if she isn't friends w/her enemies, she has friends who are friends with them, and gets info that way. I guess I'd rather stay in the dark about some of the stuff that goes on, anyway, lol.

Maybe that is the problem w/DD's laptop. It runs slow and keeps kicking her off the internet. Had to take it into the computer doctor today. She makes noises about how much it might cost to fix, blah, blah, blah. Well, I'm up for paying for it as long as it isn't as much as the computer cost in the first place. Already have to fight DS for computer time, I'm not interested in fighting her for it, too. To say nothing of the unrest if they are fighting each other!!!!

The "need to change oil" light came on in my vehicle about 2 days after I had the oil changed!!! I guess I need to look @ the manual as to how to get that reset or something.
DD's car was "driving funny" and they were having trouble getting it into gears. They were in town when they could not get it started because they couldn't find the P or N no matter how they shifted. Her dad helped her bf tow it to the repair shop, and it was only $96+ because there were a couple of bolts loose on the steering column. If it had been something major, they would have been SOL cuz it's a '94 Taurus and I had just finished paying off $900+ for various repairs.
She helped her bf tow his car once, and she said, never again!!! I helped her dad tow it the last time, and I was white knuckled all the way. Good thing he and her bf were able to do it this last time, because neither DD nor I was interested, and no way was I going to pay a towing fee!!!!

Oh my BOB I thought you were kidding. what an arrogant idiot. I am sure Bree will get right on that LOL sara
I see I'm behind everyone, just posting along all by myself, lol.
Spent yesterday afternoon w/oldest sis (also a nurse) @ the care center w/the folks. They were there because this care center provides extensive rehab (Daddy is recovering from a broken hip) and he could go there for another 30 days of swing-bed, with Medicare covering. The doc says because of dementia problems that neither Mom nor Daddy should be without 24/7 supervision.
Now, I know that, even in a nursing home, 24/7 eyes on them is not going to happen, there are other residents, etc etc etc. But this center does NOT have bed alarms to let them know Daddy is trying to get up. Unlawful confinement is what they say, altho that is not a federal or state regulation, just how this chain operates. No motion sensor or other alarms. First they told one sister it was against regulations which was a lie. They told oldest sister it was how their chain operates. BUT, they put a damn baby monitor in their room after Daddy fell the other night. So, they can't "unlawfully confine" him, but they can do a little INVASION OF PRIVACY by being able to listen to every word they or their visitors say!!!!!!
And intensive rehab? Oh, the PT man won't be back until Friday to assess him and set up a PT program.
We are next working on how to make sure they don't go to a nursing home once the 30 days are over. Daddy is an outdoors guy, he isn't interested in puzzles and that kind of stuff. He is hard of hearing and so social things (which never interested him, ever) isn't something that will keep him occupied. I've always said, he'd rather die pushing his dadgum lawn mower than waiting to die sitting in a chair somewhere. He has rarely been out of bed since Monday, altho he does get dressed now that he isn't in the hospital.
Well, I'm off. Taking DS over to see them (it's a 70 mile drive) and help Daddy get his wardrobe straightened out. He eats, which is the only good thing, but now his clothes don't fit him. He has EIGHT pairs of britches in the closet there. Lord only knows when he actually bought them, and none of them look worn. Our project today is to try them on him and get rid of the no-fits and see if he needs to buy any more. There are only THREE pair that have a size in them, for pete's sake!!!
Everyone have a good day. Since I work the next 3 days, I can see I will just be playing catch up again!!! lol

Thank you Sara, I love our logic! When I want something and don't want to spend the money, I say, Life is short! It's only money and all that jazz. LOL! I am very careful with the hand made spreads. I hang them on the bedspread rack in my room. I know what you mean about preserving them. Yup.
Now lets talk Crate and Barrel? I've never seen that one, but I'm going to go look. Just to look. :D Honest, just looking.
Okay Nawny - that's what you tell Poppa when you say you need a new quilt. The older they get the higher the value goes so if you continue to use the older ones, they could get damaged. You want them to hold their value and be worth more money in the long run. :D

So, you can use my idea. Tell Poppa you want one for each bedroom. After he recovers from that idea, he'll be glad that you would settle for just one!!!
You are a brilliant pal! :-) I love it! You help me laugh at myself. But today when he got the mechanic's estimate on the new turbo he needs for his old car, I went on Craig's list and found him a Volvo Cross Country for a price he liked. I went to see it and it was fine. We've always had Volvo's and he wont' buy a new one, so it works. (I know Volvo's are fart cars but they run forever.. hmmm that's the problem! I was ready to shoot his but it got to dying on its own after 19 years. (I secretly applauded)
I went to see it this morning and put 50 dollars on it to hold it until he got there. He is into this house up to his chin and I know he doesn't want to take the car plunge but he has to. So, no Soft Surroundings for me this month.
Poor Poppa, we live in interesting times :) Never a dull moment with Nawny.. never ever! :hat:

If you get close enough, grab it by the back of the neck. It immobilizes them just like when they are carried by their mother. http://www.freesmileys.org/emoticons/emoticon-animal-011.gif (http://www.freesmileys.org/emoticons.php)

My uncle caught several little kittens that were wild to take to his big shop where he worked to take care of the mice. Well, he "caught" them by putting food in the back seat of his car and when they went in he jumped in an shut the door. Those kittens completely tore up the inside of his NEW Caddy. Now that was funny, I don't care who you are. He had scratches all over him where they would cross him making their laps which included the seats and the convertable top. Yep, a convertable. He laughed his butt off.

I am the same way shady. I worked with mentally ill clients for 15 years and have been stalked and found even though I am never in the phone book. I will not put my self out in the public for safety reasons. sad but that is what I have to do. I completely understand. sara
It did surprise me when I started getting the messages from previous inmates on my facebook page. It's amazing that their worlds are so small that they remembered me. I never worked directly with inmates. Strictly administration, but inmates assigned as low risk cleaned the admin buildings. They always found out a lot more info about us than seemed reasonable. I always wondered who was doing all the talking.

I honestly believe since you have a background in LE they could totally be liable for making you do this. I got a myspace page, and was nearly instantly contacted by former employees. That was creepy enough, forget inmates!

Sheriff Joe of Maricopa County? Luv that man

That sounds so noble, ya know Amy? Lettuce pray! I'd much rather die of french fries and hot wieners myself. Or a greasy cheese burger or spaghetti.
Well, as long as I'm gonna die, it doesn't matter what I'm eating when I do it.

Since I work the next 3 days, I can see I will just be playing catch up again!!! lol
Bless your heart Amy :rose:

I tend to like old type houses. When my wife and I built we discussed a log cabin but it would have looked kinda stupid where we built. If we would have built in the country it would have been great.
That house was hers to build like she wanted. No input from me unless asked for. That wonderful lady lived in a mobile home with me for quite a 25 years and helped me look after my mother. To the end. That house is hers. Period. I told the contractor that there was one thing he had to remember, I was not working in town but I was home every night and if Momma ain't happy, ain't nobody happy. I only had one problem with him. Amy those hats are too easy to make. Just clip off the flowers and use the glue gun to attach them. Some of the bunches of artificial flowers cost me a dollar at the dollar store. Last weekend they were 50% off. The hats cost a buck too. The ribbons were 2 rolls for a dollar. I've been adding them for years and saved lots of money on sheet rock in this old barn. Now I have to figure out how to hide the cracks in the 150 year old doors. I'll figure something out. I think if someone sneezes the whole house will fall down. :hat:

Do you have a clone or an identical twin brother? lol Seriously, your wife is one lucky gal to have you for her husband. And, I can tell, you are one lucky fellow --a marriage made in heaven!!!
I was not that way naturally. It took a lot of work and a lot of faith. Sorry, no brothers only one sister. And i am the lucky one

Question: DO the jobs there pay twice as much as here?
Just today I Was Looking at a price tag and there are always 2 prices. USA price and CANADA price. Always! I think, hmmm, those poor Canadians have to pay almost double! Jeeze! Why is that?
Sometimes I glance at the Canadian price and get scared before I see the USA discount. But your prescription drugs are cheaper. Our lawyer goes to Canada to get them for his wife.
I wanted to mention to you that you can get the herbs I told you about online at swanson.com. Much cheaper. Are you allowed to shop online at our cost?
Generally speaking Nawny from alot of states i have visited yes our wages are higher. Our tax right now is 15% on purchases. I can shop online but i will pay the difference in the dollar. Most online shopping i do the company will absorb the duty cost. Some do not. Learned the hard way when a coupla times the UPS guy is at the door at 7 a.m. and needs 72.00 for the brokerage fee and it must be exact as they dont carry change. We have a P.O. box on your side so we get stuff delivered there and when we pick it up and come back they rarely charge any duty. Cant be bothered with the paperwork. I would say the 3 main sectors i see that are highly paid over here and not so much on your side are teachers, firemen and policemen. I think our minimum wage here is close to 10.00 an hour. Folks in the food industry are paid that as a minimum. None of that 2.00 an hr. thingy and keep your tips. I always tip well when i am across the border as i know they dont make much and rely so much on tips. Alot of tax goes to health care as you know. Yes our drugs are cheaper-goverment has a hand in it so they are capped. Liquor, beer, wine is expensive-mostly tax. You have to go to a beer store or liquor store to buy. None sold elsewhere. I think a case of beer is about 34.00 and liquor is more than twice your price. The price of books makes me crazy. I am sure you have seen the US price and then the Canadian one on the flap.

Oh...size 5...you're one of THEM! 8-9 here. You should totally look into vintage shoes. So many of them are small sizes, I have a hard time finding ones that fit me. I guess either the women of yesteryear had tiny feet, or they wedged their big flippers into much-too-small shoes...
I find that '40's shoes are the most comfortable. I guess it was all the women having to go out and work during the war, they needed to be stylish and comfortable...

You don't sound like a Shill honey! I oculd talk about shoes forever! Pisces/Feet. But shoes don't work well on fins. Darn! There isn't a Pisces I know who doesn't invest in shoes. I'm trying to avoid the orthopedic shoe hell.
I love the wedges. I went to the site and decided I didn't want to spend 138. dollars on shoes that I don't need today. I bought poppa some tank tops instead. He was bemoaning the ones he has. All faded.. lol!

Hey, a manager here in one of my boss' departments called in because she was called for jury duty and was picked. She couldn't say which trial but she said it was a profile case in the news. She was picked for a murder case. I don't want to go into too much detail but I can figure out which one as it's been in the news for weeks and they went into jury selection yesterday. I wouldn't want to be on that case for anything in the world. Nasty. But I can guess that I know what her verdict will be. ;)

Well I never had the facebook for that to happen to me but calling me at my apt with an unlisted number scared the heck out of me. Eventually I moved across state and have been okay. I married DH 5 yrs ago and gave him descriptions of people to look out for. I am not paranoid but I have always been careful. There was a lot of transference in the minds of my clients and it was mainly with the ones who were diagnosed as sociopath and borderline. I have not worked in that field since. I know what you mean though. How did they track me down?? sara
Walking that fine line between being careful and being paranoid ? LOL - I know exactly what you mean.
I honestly believe since you have a background in LE they could totally be liable for making you do this. I got a myspace page, and was nearly instantly contacted by former employees. That was creepy enough, forget inmates!
It's difficult to explain to people who never worked with or around questionable people why you don't want to "put yourself out there" when it's the thing to do in your new line of work. I work with all men, token female here, and it was amusing how protective they got when I had them read some of the posts left for me. Then I got to be totally blocked, and I am allowed to refuse friends if no one in the office recognizes the name.

I know-I am trying to be strong as right now i need white and then black for a fall wedding. I guess i still have the old fashioned rule my mom drilled into my head. No white after Labor day weekend. I will have to take note at that Oct. wedding to see if the rule still applies :D Prolly best i go with a strappy white for the 2 summer weddings and a closed black for the end of Oct. can be quite chilly here by then.
P.S. looking for white cuz my dress has white in it-wearing it to all 3 cuz nobody will be at the same and i spent more on the dress than i wanted. I luv it tho its dressy but comfy.

lmao that is what i have. nasty old flat feet, no arches...causes me a lot of problems too, i feel bad for my son, when he was born and they did his footprints on his birth certificate he had an arch on one foot and none on the other, and looking at his feet today it looks like its still like that, poor kid.

Believe it or not, big wide flat feet are the healthy ones. I saw a cast of Ishi's feet (he was the last member of his tribe from Norcal), and that's what he had, never wore shoes in his life. Strong looking big toe, too! But he never shoved 'em in shoes, or he might have had problems...

well they are sturdy enough i guess but growing up with no arch support weakened my ankles alot and now just walking from my house to my moms, maybe 20 feet, and i can end up with bruises on my ankles. the podiatrist also said it probably was worsened during my first pregnancy, and now that i am pregnant again it will probably get worse. he said that the tendons had become so inflammed and the pressure on them from supporting my body was so high that my tendons in both feet had spread apart and i have scar tissue in the joints of my big toes. i was getting cortizone shots in my feet but i quit because it was just making it hurt more and more. like so many other things, i just got used to it eventually

Well you and my hubby would get along great-and the boys. One of my sons applied for a job one summer online unknown to us. Told me he had an interview and could i get him there. I said sure then he said no you need to fly me to Oregon and then told us what it was for. I think he musta fell that week and bumped his noggin. He would not have lasted 2 days. Nor would we.

I like taupe because it make the leg look longer and the foot look smaller but I guess you don't have to worry about them looking smaller.

lol i think that those styles are pretty cute, i would get some except those things hardly ever work the way they do on tv. for example, my mom bought some of those plastic bra strap clamps to pull your straps back so you can wear those tops with the curved backs and what not. they show the women on tv putting them on easily and they just slip into place and VOILA you look fabulous, MY FOOT!!! lmao those things are IMPOSSIBLE to get on right and once they are there they just pull the straps way too tight and getting them off again is even worse. i can just imagine ripping my hair out, literally, with those nifty little Bumpits

Just a thought - formal rental places have shoes and you could try consignment shops in the exculsive neighborhoods. Sometimes they wear them once and that's it.
I loved those pumps too. A good friend and I always joked because we both have "Fred Flintstone Feet". Short toes and very wide, high instep feet. I guess I don't need to buy gas for the car, just "Yabba dabba do" and peddle away.

Yeah, I don't understand why so many women are obssessed with shoes, purses and watches.
There are very few types of shoes that I can wear -- birth defect, shoes need work. Only thing that works is Easy Feel, Easy Feet? Whatever they are called. I'm in the house most of the time. I dont' suppose he'd get it if I did the laundry wearing high heel spikes and a big red hat. I don't even dress that way when I'm out. Pretty conservative here. But last Sunday I did the stupid. I wore a pair of black high wedges and I'm still paying for it. I tell my daughters, it's YOUR turn babies,, I had my day. I have a full day today. The movers are coming at 11:00 to moves poppa's desks to his office in Providence, and take the bookcases and chairs upstairs to get the 2 rooms ready for the new additions.. It's very warm here, and it rained all over my newly cleaned car. :(
I was just fiddlin around with a web site called Astrodienst. It's fun! User friendly, after you type in your birth data, it tells you where all the planets were at the time of your birth and then gives you a profile of your personality. It's in plain English. No complicated astro talk. Fascinating!
Never buy into the daily horoscope from the news paper. It's baloney. There is no way they can report the days events without knowing your date of birth. Try this if it interests you. This asks for your Data and then tells you pretty close, what's happening.
http://www.astro.com/
If you can't open it, just google ASTRODIENST It's really fun and informative.
It looks like rain out there. No it doesn't, yes it does.. hmmm, no, yes.

I am so familiar with that kind of story. Here in Israel, many in many "Modern Orthodox", as the term goes, had children that becaome totally, totally fundamentalist.
These children make the parents lives miserable -- insisting mom where longer skirts, tighter scarfs, double scarfs or more modest wigs. They insist that they buy ultra kosher food, as opposd to standard kosher food.
Many "Modern Orthodox" men wore well trimmed beards or even no beards at all, only discreet sidelocks (side locks are law, beards are custom) but their kids are insisted they go for bushy Taliban type beards and big showy Taliban style white skullcap instead of small crocheted ones.
Oh, yeah, know about that. The former head of my dept (retired) found herself in that situation.

Used or new? LOL! Poppa in a dyed in the wool Dem. I'm glad he doesn't drive BMW's. Once was enough for him. It was the one on the lemon tree.
We looked at Prius' after my oldest bought one. I love them! He was geared to buy one for the gas savings until this past winter when during a snow storm and she couldn't get down my driveway. They are definitely California cars. When I was there 2 years ago I saw them all over the place in Monterey.
We need All wheel drive because the driveway is very steep. So a used Cross Country had to be the choice. Poppa will never buy new. always 2 year old cars. When it snows it takes several tries before I can get up the driveway in my sedan. I have to back it up across the street, gun it, then wiggle my way up. (When he's not home) :hat: If he's home he comes out of the house and says WAIT, NO, HOLD IT. PUT IT IN PARK, LEMME SHOVEL AND SALT, NO NO, DON'T GUN IT! ARRGGGHHHGG! NO NO.....

Wow, am I glad the niece and nephew didn't do that (at least not yet) I guess your modern orthodox term fits them. They just wave their hands in the air and go, "Mom, you're not going out like THAT, are you?!" But I have met the other folks at weddings, I do believe...boy, did I learn fast not to offer my hand for shaking to some guys out there!
I have a funny story (forgive me if I shared it already!) When I flew to Israel, it was food preparation time, and all the (I think?) rabbis were blocking the aisle to watch the food being made, and no one could get to the restrooms for the longest time. They would simply not get out of the way. This one Israeli woman saw our dilemma, and she was like, "You need to get to the restrooms? Follow me!" She started calling out loudly in Hebrew, and the men literally ran away from us like frightened sheep, making bleating noises. I was like, "umm, what did you say to them?" She said, "I told them we were all menstruating! Unclean, unclean, you understand?" Ah, the power of female ingenuity! I love that lady to this day. She taught me to fight fire with fire!

yikes is right! Does the fog get up there eventually? We had it briefly this morning
only time we ever have fog here is the winter when it is on the lake. the mountains that surround us keep us pretty much clear of any coastal fog. we have had a couple earthquakes recently, little ones but often enough to give me the heebie jeebies lol because there are several vents to a volcano here.

Sorry about the warnings on the links -- I use them all the time, and it's been a while since anything like that showed up. :( -- I'd say they are more likely from our own hackers "playing" around than any yada-yada big bad cyba-terrorists.
Yes, sigh :( there have been all kinds of abuse and hazing of recruits -- espeically in elite units.
Of course the worse hazers/abusers are those who were the previous victims.
It was on the news this a.m., but most of the local news was about the fundamentalist Jewish mother who abused her tot. :(

Working out is pretty silly anyway when you think about it...back when the holy books were written, people worked out by, well, working to survive. How we must look to much of the world!
My orthodox sister-in-law caught heck from her kids when she started wearing slacks again...she doesn't care! Once she got past that, she decided she liked her own hair better than wigs, too. She's a hoot, the kids are scandalized:D
Wigs? Why wigs?

Wigs? Why wigs?
Religious Askenazic Jewish women (married) are supposed to cover their hair.
Some where wigs, some wear hats, some wear scarfs over their own hair.
The real fanatics shave their heads and put on a scarf.
Religious Sephardic women (married) just wear hats or scarfs
Despite what was shown in Fiddler on the Roof, a nonmarried woman does not cover her head.
The purpose of the head covering is supposedly to maintain modesty and to prevent her husband from being distracted while at prayer.
I think it has more to do with control and marking one's property.

Regarding married women covering their heads, I remember a time when Catholic Churches refused entrance to any female without a hat or kerchief. That's no longer the case. In the meantime, I agree with your take on what's happened to the real motive for married Jewish women.
I did some reading since yesterday about Fundamentalists. I found it incomprehensible and yet "Hell is paved with good intentions," fits well there. IMO. Some of that reading was damn scary. I don't know for sure, why those teachings don't reach my kitchen. I'm not formally educated, perhaps that's why. My life didn't go that way. I wasn't born to be on that page and have "no dog in that fight". (This round ;)
I've experienced no war in my lifetime. Viet Nam happened when I was too young to understand. I saw the fallout, and learned, but after reading that, I am one of the fortunate. I remain grateful. :patriot:

So what else is new?
You fax or email over your prayer and some guy (or gal) at the other end prints it out and shoves it in one of the cracks, right?
They really should be doing if for free. It is pious good deed to put in someone else's note, someone else who can't get to the WW.
But, heck, they want you to have a pious good deed by supporting them.
I've been in Israel since '74, came from a pretty traditional, but not religious (except for keeping somewhat kosher and lighting candles) house, but at this point these goons have made we almost totally drop connections with the faith I was born with.

Many legends are based on a kernel of truth. I think the eruption of Santorini is a very likely candidate for Atlantis.
As for digs, I don't know how you'd feel about the hours: up at 3:30, on the bus at 3:45, digging by 4:45...it was painful! But if you ever want to go, I can give you some suggestions. Anyone can volunteer...for a price (so is it really volunteering? good question)! With your artistic skill and eye, I bet you would be really good on a pottery sorting detail. I found that painters are the best at spotting color and pattern matches in big groups of potsherds.

It's the term that I most often hear for it, but I am more used to using Western Wall, so I instinctively quoted it, like a nickname.
Western Wall (remaining bit of the wall around the 2nd temple, not a temple wall itself) is the preferred term. Wailing Wall is considered a term used to mock the crying of the people at prayer. I generally do use Western Wall, but given the riots in Jerusalem by groups of fundamentalist Jews, I have no problem with Wailing right now.

I dropped out of college (SUCO in NY) to come here after the Yom Hakippurim War. The idea was to graduate first and come with a degree and a profession, but I was a passionate 19 year year old, yada, yada.
My parents did retire here shortly afterwards, but it wasn't like they had done that for me -- they had already bought a retirement flat. Had I waited to graduate, they would have been the ones to come first.

I love the Tel-Aviv nightlife, except it starts too late (maybe it's my age?). T-A is a very safe city, I don't worry about coming home late alone.
People say shopping is good, but I hate to spot, only buy what I need, wear my clothing until it is threadbare to avoid shopping!
Oh, and a question for you all -- I really want a dog, but I know doggies don't like being alone for hours on end. Would like a pug, but guess I'll have to wait 'til I retire.
Are there any doggies that do better on their ownsome for stretches of time? Retirement is over 12 years away!

Good for you Marion. I am glad u feel safe as well. Not sure about the dog question. I had a Norfolk/Bichon and he was just the best. I am sure there are some breeds who dont mind being left. If u go with a dog from the say the working class they dont tend to chew everything in sight. That you may want to consider greatly as thats when they do it-when left alone. True about cats - I've got eight in the house now and if you came into my house you wouldn't know I had more than one. Only Suki spends his time with me.
As to dogs, most small breds are fine alone all day. My brother has a yorkie, my mother has a miniature pincher. My brother had a pug - note that they tend to have skin problems, ear infections and snore. Boston terriers are nice. I have an Affenpincher - hard to train and housebreak. Bichons and Malese are nice because they don't shed much but need lots of grooming. Rat terriers and Jack Russells are very smart but high energy. dachshunds can have severe back problems. Cocker spaniels can be nippy and also need grooming. Shih Tzu's are extemely good natured, non shedding, easily trained and need grooming. They look adorable in "puppy cuts" if you don't want the full coat. If you like the Pug, you may want to look at a Pugle - a mix beteen the pug and beagle. It doesn't have the short snout so it breaths better and is less prone to smelly ears and skin infections.

Whew! Glad you found that funny Beemer! I was starting to worry about my sanity.. LOL! I was wiping tears!
I thought it was hilarious - I laughed so had that I got a dirty look from Suki and then he jumped off the bed. http://www.freesmileys.org/emoticons/emoticon-animal-040.gif (http://www.freesmileys.org/emoticons.php)

Thanks all for the doggie advice.
One thing I will tell you -- no purebred for me! Whatever dog that adopts me, s/he'll be a bit of a mutt, that will meet me at the Let The Animals Live kennels of abandoned mutts.
Good for you!!! Our cat was a rescue from the pound. We had gone there to find a dog. Found this pathetic ole soul named Gus. Went home to think about it when a friend called who had just adopted a few weeks prior. Their dog had died from parvo and that all dogs had been exposed. I called the humane society back to tell them i had 2 kids and just could not put them thru that. Horrible death for the dog. So wanting a Bischon but was not going to pay that kind of money i found a Bischon breeder whos dog had mated with a Norfolk while they were down in Florida-much to his dismay. We had Freeway for 16 years :rose: Cat-Levi- for 18 :rose:

Good for you Marion. I am glad u feel safe as well. Not sure about the dog question. I had a Norfolk/Bichon and he was just the best. I am sure there are some breeds who dont mind being left. If u go with a dog from the say the working class they dont tend to chew everything in sight. That you may want to consider greatly as thats when they do it-when left alone. If all else fails cats never care if u come or go.
sounds like you think cats are lower class than dogs?!?!?!? LOL:)

Haaaa no cats are just not loyal like dogs. They dont come when called etc. Although our cat luved my hubby-she would come when he called. If i said something to her-ears would go back and the siamese cry would come out. She could be a real b/i/t/c/h sometimes but i thought she was a hoot. She was part siamese and part calico. Ole Levi-I miss her :rose:

Thanks so much Gator for the shoe sites-I ordered 3 pr. YEAH!!!!!!! They are now under my favorites for shoe shopping
You are most welcome. My boss tells me i should open a personal buyer service/concierge service. He says I always know what to buy and where to get it. His wife should appreciate that very much. When I first started working for him she had a quarter carat diamond engagement ring. Now she's up to a two carat stone. He didn't think she'd want a bigger stone. Yeah right, he buys a $60K corvette and she's happy with a quarter carat 30 year old ring? Men...

LOL I bet that is the Siamese. My 2 come when called but I think it is because they think they are going to be brushed or get treats so most of the time I do neither most of the time. One does play fetch though. that is fun sara
