SAGINAW, Mich. – Police on Tuesday were searching for three young girls missing since their mother was found dead, and said they were concerned for the youngsters' safety.

Saginaw police were investigating Erica Olguin's death as a homicide and were searching for her estranged husband.

"Her husband took the three daughters and fled the state," said police Chief Gerald Cliff.

An Amber Alert was issued for Victoria Olguin, 3; Lilliana Olguin, 5; and Elena Olguin, 9.

Police had not issued a warrant for the girls' father, Jose Angel Olguin, 35, but said they very much wanted to find him.

"Our concern is for the children as well as ... to get a potentially dangerously violent person off the street," Cliff said. "Family and friends tell us there has been a history of domestic violence."

Officers discovered the body of Erica Olguin, 32, Monday evening when they went to her house to check on her because she failed to pick up her 11-year-old son at his school. Authorities said Tuesday they hadn't determined the cause of her death.

Jose Olguin visited relatives in Elkhart, Ind., on Monday evening before the discovery of his wife's body, said Sgt. Brent VanderHaar. Police said the girls were with him.

"We're trying to see if we can find any direction of travel," VanderHaar said. He said the man might have headed back north to Saginaw or south to Texas, where he also has family.

VanderHaar said he didn't know the locations of the Texas relatives.

Texas Department of Public Safety spokeswoman Tela Mange said the agency was aware of the situation but hadn't received any information about the man being in Texas.

Breaking News: 3 missing Michigan children found safe, father in custody

Three Michigan children, believed to be on their way to Texas, are safe after police arrested their father. The girls were the subject of an Amber Alert after their mother was found dead.

CBS affiliate WNEM reports the father, Jose Angel Olguin, was arrested in Shiawassee County, which is south of Saginaw between Flint and Lansing.

Saginaw police are investigating the death of the children's mother, Erica Olguin, as a homicide. Her children -- Victoria Olguin, 3; Lilliana Olguin, 5; and Elena Olguin, 9; -- disappeared.

Olguin visited relatives in Elkhart, Ind., on Monday evening, before his wife's death was known, said Sgt. Brent VanderHaar. Police said the girls were with him.

Police discovered Erica Olguin's body after she failed to pick up her 11-year-old son at his school Monday and they went to the house to check on her.

Saginaw is 20 miles south of me and I tell you this city is a toilet! Every day it seems somebody dies either by drive-bys, or domestic related homicides like this one is shaping up to be, or gang related shootings, even at Middle schools, they have armed police on campus, I liken it to a war zone! I am very glad these girls were found, often the man also kills the kids and that is why everyone here in Mid-Michigan were holding our breath, praying and the father is also now in custody, they have not named him as of yet, the killer, but really, who else is it gonna be? Over the summer I went to Saginaw with a friend to pick up her friend's kid for the week and as we exit the car in broad daylight, we hear rapid gunfire and we hit the ground running! We literally crawled on our hands and knees and Carlo grabbed us up and dragged us in the house! Talk about freaked! We later find out a young woman was shot to death at a gas station right around the corner and it was a case of mistaken identity, two dirtbags opened fire on her because of her car, apparently they had a beef with a subject that drove a white Stratus and shot her in cold blood with her 12 month old daughter in the car too! Luckily, the baby was in a car seat in the rear of the car and while the backseat had bullet holes in it, the bullets missed the baby! Now these two 17 year old losers are facing LWPOP and I wish they were frying in the chair tonight!

This is the second driveby in less than two years that teen gangbangers were involved in, the first one, they killed a 14 month baby boy, shot him several times in the head and severely injured his mother and this too was a case of mistaken identity! All of these pukes, the youngest was 14 at the time of the murder, were convicted and all received LWPOP. And in court, they showed no remorse, their mama's wailed and sobbed, only when it came to their collective asses being locked up at such a young age, oh, yeah, the lawyers tried the don't send him away for the rest of his life your honor, he is a child, and the judge wasn't impressed and away they went to the Big House! I can still hear the rat tat rat of the bullets and we were around the corner, later on TV they interviewed people that were actually there and in the same hood, and people were scared, but not surprised, after all this is just Saginasty!!
