. . . . . Apartment complex where 7-year-old girl was found dead
Phoenix Police are investigating the mysterious death of a child. Early Friday morning police said a 7-year-old girl was found dead at an apartment near I-17 and Glendale.
Detectives said they haven’t determined a cause of death. Authorities said the mother dropped her daughter off at her fiance's the fiance told police he couldn’t wake up the girl.
Neighbors at the quiet apartment complex were shaken up by the child’s death.
“It’s sad. I can’t believe it. It’s so close to home,” said neighbor Caitlin New.
Just after 6am, Phoenix Police responded to a 9-1-1 call from the fiance.
“Upon arrival officers and firefighters found the 7-year-old little girl. She was found unresponsive and pronounced deceased by Phoenix Fire,” said Officer Luis Samudio with the Phoenix Police Department.
Samudio said the fiance and his child were also home at the time. Neighbor Helen Eleya said he came to her apartment shaken up.
“The neighbor, he’s friendly with my husband and he just knocked on the door this morning. He was asking for a cigarette because he was so nervous about the situation,” said Eleya.
Authorities also searched the mother’s home located further south of the apartment complex. Neighbors described the couple and their kids.
“The kids don’t seem happy, never happy since they moved in,” New said.
“I’ve met them and they’ve been to my son’s birthday party. They seemed like very nice people,” said neighbor Julis Zamoi.
Phoenix Police are interviewing the mother and her finance. At this point, no one has been taken into custody. Authorities have not released any names.
