SHERAL LEE SMITH

Sheral Lee Smith, 37, a teacher at Summit School, a private school, in Jackson, Mississippi has been arrested and charged with statutory rape and transfer of a controlled substance.

Smith, 37, was arrested Sept. 17 and is free on a $50,000 bond, Rankin County District Attorney Michael Guest said. Smith once taught at New Summit School in Jackson, Guest said. The charges surround an incident involving a 14-year-old boy who Smith met at the school, Guest said. The incident allegedly happened a few weeks ago at Smith's Rankin County home, Guest said.
Smith is also charged with transfer of a controlled substance. Rankin County Sheriff Ronnie Pennington said that investigators believe Smith gave the boy a pill.

Pennington said that the boy was not one of Smith's students. He said that the sheriff's department got a call from another agency which led to the investigation. Pennington wouldn't identify the agency.

What's going on with all the teachers lately? Have they all gone crazy? Is there anywhere safe for kids anymore?

ITA there Susie. Not only that but the fact that the schools are still trying to cover up these things until word gets out to the general public. It happens in this area of the country all the time.

I agree NKA. I just think we as a society need to start demanding some kind of protection for our children. It seems as if everyday we are hearing these kinds of stories and worse. It really is sad that our children are growing up in an atmosphere of fear and distrust.

I don't understand this. Why is this happening? A horrific trend which I believe started with the Mary Kay Letorneau case.:flamemad:
