Hello!
This is my first post and I apologize if this not where this should go, but I am hoping somebody may be able to offer some insight to my family and I.
Approximately ten months ago, my brother (early 30s) and his girlfriend (early 40s) were brutally murdered. It was first reported as a fire and the coroner informed us that they had originally died from smoke inhalation. Later that day, we were informed that it was determined that both died from blunt force trauma to the head and the perpetrator(s) deliberately set the fire to try and destroy the scene.
Our family did not know very much about his girlfriend, only that he was seeing somebody he worked with and her first name. We later learned they were trying to keep it discreet because she was recently separated from her husband.
After ten months, there have not been any arrests and very little updates. There has been one clear suspect during the entire investigation, the scorned husband.
I recently learned that the scorned husband and my brother’s girlfriend had been involved in marriage counseling for several months. They met with the counselor together and individually. She met with the counselor by herself as recently as three days before the murders. The investigators have not spoken with the counselor or attempted to retrieve any information he may have because of HIPAA laws. This seems absurd to me that a key component, something that could provide the break needed in a murder investigation is not available to the officers investigating the case. Isn’t there some way the investigators may legally obtain this information? Even if it is only the portions where she met with the counselor individually? Could they legally ask the counselor questions or his opinion on some things?
