A former Norwalk teacher faces a sexual-exploitation charge after a recent high school graduate told police she had a two-year affair with him, Warren County court documents show.
Ryan Christopher Janssen, 31, was charged Wednesday after one of his former students told Norwalk police that she began a sexual relationship with Janssen while she was a 16-year-old junior at Norwalk High School. If convicted, Janssen could face up to five years in prison.
Janssen admitted the affair to Norwalk schools Superintendent Denny Wulf and athletic director Al Lammers on Sunday, court documents say. The Norwalk school board accepted Janssen's resignation Monday. The woman, now 18, told police Janssen promised to leave his wife. The woman also told police that Janssen bought her clothes, a ring, a living room set, a flat-screen TV and a cellular phone.
When Janssen tried to end the relationship, the former student told authorities, he wanted her to keep their affair a secret from her parents and school officials.
