Personally, I like Aileen Wuornos the best. I took socialogy in high school and the teacher went through and talked about quite a few killers, like the BTK killer. She is what got me interested in serial killers. Now im reading this great book called the killer book of true crimes. its a great read =]

I think the life of Aileen Wuornos was pretty interesting also. Watching her youtube videos show a very dillusional person. However, I think my favorite serial killer for the moment is Richard Ramirez, the night stalker!

Dennis Radar. It just boggles my mind that this man eluded capture for so many years and was eventually brought down by.... Microsoft Word*. Go Bill Gates!
* I should mention I also have the biggest respect for the law enforcement officials who spent years searching for him and finally brought him in.

I just watched a Deranged episode on the ID channel about Gary Ridgeway, The Green River Killer. He was by far the worst serial killer I've ever heard of. They believe he has killed more people than anyone else! He preyed on prostitutes in Seattle from 1982 until they caught him in 2002.........They think he killed over 70 girls.

Herbert Mullin, Richard Trenton Chase and other seriously ill people. It's the scope of their delusions that intrigue me.
Gary Ridgeway -- I feel off the sofa when I caught a headline on the telly announcing the arrest of a man suspected in 48 strangulation murders. I gasped, "It has to be Green River!!! OMFG"
Dennis Rader -- I read about him in one of the Douglas books where he used another moniker than BTK. And when he surfaced again it was just too good to be true. I've read Beatties book + one called Unholy Messenger which wasn't so interesting. The third book that was simply called Bind Torture Kill is one of the best crime books I've ever read.
Ted Bundy -- Got to know him from Readers Digest in november 1982 and has been reading most of what's been written about him since then. Seen a lot of the movies but consider the portrayal in The Riverman to be the best.
Carl Panzram -- The account of his life, that he wrote in prison and gave to Henry Lesser for publication, really is something else. His absolute recollection of details about his past + crimes is quite stunning.
The worst 1 must be Harold Shipman; the BAD doctor. 286+ or 316+ murders spanning several decades.

Actually, Bundy was around 140 IQ and if he was pressed hard enough he'd stammer. His victims showed no fear initially because he used a harmless appearance or that of authority.

The most tragic thing about this story is that another man was executed for this before Chkatilo's arrest.
:rose:
He may have done other things, but he didn't do this.
I work at one of the hospitals where Michael Swango victimized people, although he is not believed to have killed anyone here. Everyone who worked there at the time has a story about him.
Herbert Baumeister is quite interesting because he is believed to have killed at least 50 people in Indiana and Ohio over a period of years leading up to his suicide in 1996. When A&E did the show on him about 10 years ago, eight bodies had been found on his sprawling country estate, but when TruTV did an "Investigators" show on him last year, the number had increased to 11. His wife claims she knew nothing, and his family also claims they didn't know he was gay although he was really flaming. He had done some time in a mental institution; guess love must really be blind, huh?

I would have to say The Ken and Barbie Murders are to me the most interesting. For one person to be sick in the head is enough. But when you can talk someone else into drugging their own sister, participate in her rape, and cover up her murder to me is beyond belief.
Albert Fish was a sick SOB as well. There is an awesome documentary I saw on him a couple of weeks ago that really dug inside his mind. The letter he sent to the parents of the little girl he kidnapped, murdered, then ate was probably the most disturbing thing I have ever read in my life.

OMG I read the entire revolting story of that freak of nature, Andrei. It is sad and frustrating that it took them THAT long, to finally come together to form a plan by setting up a few train stations to catch the pervert. I wonder if they did a DNA test today, if it would match Type AB blood. I am Sure as heck it would, with him taking them to unknown graves, etc. I need to go watch something good, and uplifting, after reading that disgusting biography.....That doesn't mean I don't appreciate you giving us that link to read.....it is good to keep up on things.;)

I have always been intrigued by the story of Billy the Kid. Cool!!! Isn't Utah kinda full of old dinosaur bones...
I don't think they're so many after all because whenever there's a new creep either caught and dealt with or as the subject of an on-going investigation, they become like sequals that drag on day after day, week after week, and so on. I think homicide and other types of violence, sexual or not, primarily is a domestic situation, not necessarily within the core of one specific family; the victim knows their attacker.
Most of the creeps we read about here or in books are either tucked away in a safe place or already dead and gone.

Yes, there is!!!! They based the Velociraptor from the Jurassic Park movies off of the Utah Raptor that they found here in Utah. In Vernal Utah, they have the biggest collection of Allosaurus (a bigger form of the T-Rex) bones in the world. Vernal is the arm pit of Hell, (it is in the middle of nowheresville-and HOT) but it is an EXCELLENT place to go Dino hunting. An entire Woolly Mammoth skeleton was also found here, along with other different species.
I hope you are right about there not being as many mass murders out there than we think. With new technology, DNA, computer matching, etc, hopefully is helping cut down the number of would-be murders.

Our professor showed us once an adult Allosaurus skeleton. next to an adult T-Rex skeleton, and indeed the Allosaurus was a little bigger; bigger teeth, wider head, etc. It also stood a little taller. The Professor did say that it is possible to count on Paleontologist finding in the future, a bigger T-Rex skeleton that would put that theory to rest. But for now, that is the consensus. Right now, my favorite study, is the Velociraptor. They also found a Brontosaurus skeleton that still had food in it's stomach!!!!!
THe Allosaurus, and the T-REx were the Ted Bundys, and the Richard Ramirez's of the Jurassic Period, haha

Dinosaurs and their tracks have been found almost all over the world. China is a great place, as well as Germany, Saudi Arabia, etc. They are usually found in remote areas, either in dry climates, or imbedded in rock under water. That is how they found trilobites, and stuff like that. Another creature that has captured my interest, is the ancient Megaladon shark, which if alive today, would make today's biggest Great White look really small. Their huge teeth are the only thing they have found on the Meg. I have one of the teeth, and it is slightly bigger than my hand!!! If you flip through a shark book, or even google "megaladon," there should be a picture they took, of how big the jaws would be, putting the teeth they found in it. Six men fit perfectly in the jaws!!!! Awesome.
Yea, I agree with Karin. The Velociraptor fits R.R perfectly!!!!!

Is there a fight between the two species on Jurassic Fight Club?

That would be awesome to see (if Hollywood or someone else ever does a spoof like that). More like The T-Rex (being Bundy) being Mike Tyson, and biting the ear off of the Velociraptor (being Ramirez) being Evander Hollyfield. If that made any sense.

Here is some facts about the Megaladon. This show is kind of retarded, because it is fake, but it sure shows the immense size of how big it was

That is what my Professor has said as well. Yea, the tooth I have (I bought it from a dinosaur museum I visited; pretty expensive suckers, too!!!) is slightly bigger than my hand. Yea, I agree it was. This is just another theory, but i agree with Professor Anderson, that it probably got wiped out, the same time the Dinosaurs did, when that giant meteor hit near Mexico. That would explain how the other huge sea creatures that lived that same time also became extinct.

They could have been wiped out by smaller predators as that happens a lot in nature or maybe they starved....heck, maybe they just evolved and are living at the bottom of the ocean. So little of the ocean has actually been studied we don't really know what may be down there.

Off Topic but how did we know the meteor hit Mexico?
No one really knows that for sure. We watched a National Geographic film on how they did thermal images of the earth's landscape, to compare the biggest craters on the earth. The one in Arizona was a possibility, but the one that the scientist are betting on, is the one off of Mexico. (I'll have to check my notes on exactly where.) They did a few similations on the size of the crater, to determine how big the asteroid was when it hit. The one they did on Mexico seemed to fit the profile of the Dinosaur extinction. Again, just a theory.
One of my other interest: When they used the same technology, with the thermal imaging, they scanned Yellowstone Park to find out where the extinct volcano was that created the geysers, and so forth. They were stunned to find out, that at the bottom of Yellowstone lake (yellowstone lake is HUGE) is the magma chamber, and also one of the world's biggest Super Volcanoes. (I chose my user name based on that :D) and If it were to blow again, it would literally bring most of the entire west to a stand still. They think it erupts every 600,000 years or so, and we are near that due date. My dad lives on the out skirts of Yellowstone Park, in Ashton Idaho. He gets up dates from a friend, who is a Park Ranger there. He said that so far, the only thing that has happened, is the lake going up a few degrees. For a lake that size, that is pretty significant!!! I just hope my dad isn't the stubborn kind that refuses to leave his land if they evacuate. Scary thought..... We lived in Idaho when Mount St. Helens blew in 1980. I was only 8 years old then, but I still remember wondering where all of this "dull pink snow" came from. Ash seemed to be everywhere. The Mt. St. Helens blast is a mere burp, compared to what Yellowstone would do. FYI

Both from extinct sharks. Can't remember the name of them but I do remember one was an ancestor of what is now known as the Tiger shark..I agree this subject is extremely interesting. That is AWESOME!!!! Utah was once under water, called lake (or sea) Bountiful. Even in the deserts here, they are still finding old sea creature fossils, along with giant turtle ones. It is so weird that or planet was so vastly different than from what we for thousands of years have known it to be.

For me it was Jesse James. *lol* Ever since I was a little girl I've been fasinated with him and watch every JJ movie or documentary I can find. (Just watched a movie last night on JJ) I think that's why when I grew up, I was attracted to the rugged, strong "bad boy" types. (And now I'm married to someone that isn't even come close to that type so go figure.) :D
So many of these stories about criminals are so inconsistant, I always find myself wondering what is the truth. Maybe speculation this way or that but I think it would take a little skill to come up with something even close to the dates of said crimes and lives they lived. I hate for the dates to be inconsistant especially, because it makes me believe the truth is not all there. So what else is true or not true or maybe it just doesn't matter.

oh well, it is sad that hollywood thinks they have to elaborate on them. The worst I have ever seen was a newer Gein movie where he is a cold calculating murderer. He even kills a man who was helping him rob graves. I bet the writer of that one only spent like 1 hour researching on Gein. He was a bumbling recluse with a mommy complex, not a deviantly intelligent get-in-my-way-and-I'll-eliminate-you killer.

Ted was a crisis counselor who worked with Ann Rule. Ann later wrote a book called "The Stranger Beside Me", which was about her experience working with Ted before she knew who he was.
Ted was a Psychiatric Major, a Crisis Clinic Counselor, a Law Student. He worked for Republican Governor Dan Evans. He was a Burglar. A Kidnapper. A Rapist. A Pedophile. A Serial Killer. I wish the FBI profilers could come up with a syatem that we could use to find these evil people but it seems they can only come up with something so basic that until they catch them no one can tell what to look for. i was at the hospital yesturday and this guy looked like Bundy! it was really weird. maybe hes been on my mind too much lately.
Yea, I know what you mean!! You wonder if they really did kill them, or if they are out on the prowl again!!! Do you ever watch the tv cartoon show "King of The Hill?" I have a friend who is a dead ringer for Dale Gribble, in every single way, except for the smoking. Too funny.

I wouldn't necessarily say I have a 'favorite' or 'most interesting' killer in mind, but I read a book about 10 years ago about this guy who was in college and wanted to his thesis or something on Gacy and he started writing to him and became so close to Gacy, that Gacy actually got into this kids head and making threats and such. He ended up going to see Gacy just days before he was executed and almost got himself killed by him. The book was called "The Last Victom" I believe. I just find it interesting how easily Gacy was able to get to this kid and manipulate him.

You are correct about the title; I have read that book too.

Gacy used to offer the boy's jobs and thats how he get his victims. But Gacy was good at manipulating boys into coming back to his house, or doing "work" for him.

Until I read the book "Buried Dreams" (I think that was the title), I did not know that Gacy specialized in remodeling pharmacies, and he did this so he could get behind the counter and steal drugs.
Granted, security was not as stringent in the 1970s as it is now, but I wonder how many pharmacists got in trouble because they couldn't account for some of the things they ordered.
I'm a pharmacist; that's how I know this.

I bet Jimmy Carter's wife shudders everytime she sees the photo of herself shaking hands with Gacy reproduced in books.
I bet she does too. Omg, can you imagine how that would feel? *shiver*

Nowadays, the Secret Service would probably not have allowed him into the party where he met Rosalynn Carter, due to his conviction for child molestation. He met her at a fundraiser for the local Democratic party, where he did some volunteer work - I'm not sure exactly what.
The shock rocker GG Allin also struck up a friendship with Gacy and met him several times in prison. Allin died of an overdose in 1993, a year before Gacy was executed.
I vividly remember Allin's death because at the time, I was working at this place and we were talking about concerts we had attended and one of my co-workers said he had seen GG Allin. I said, "What does GG Allin do onstage? All I know about him is that he always gets arrested every time he performs."
If I posted what he said Allin did onstage, I would probably get banned, but our co-workers were laughing and saying "You are lying!" and "You are making this up!" He wasn't, and the day after he quit, I read that Allin was dead. Too bad - I would have loved to have been the one to have given him the news.

I shudder in disgust at the mere thought of Gacey. Who was GG Allin? I haven't heard of him. What exactly was he supposed to do on stage? A magician, or something? It would be interesting to know what he did on stage instead. Is that what landed him in prison?

Check your PMs.
Allin did spend time in prison, more than once, but it was not the same prison as Gacy. What I meant was, he was a Gacy pen pal and visited him in prison; there are photographs to prove this.
I saw the Allin documentary; it's available through Netflix. Yeah, you can get some WEEEEEEEIRD things through them! I have also seen "Capturing The Friedmans", which concerned trumped-up charges and false accusations of sexual abuse (and that's making a long story short) and "Bazaar Bizarre", about serial killer Bob Berdella.

Even though I think a lot of them are interesting I really think Herman Webster Mudgett AKA H.H. Holmes is at the top of my list.
The things he did, the people he conned and his castle he built. And all of it happened in the 1890's. I love reading everything I can on him.
Albert Fish is another on the top of my list.

Ah Mudgett/Holmes. That's one I haven't heard of for a while. He had his murder house in Chicago I think? With the sound proof/escape proof rooms. I can't remember how many he killed but he was executed. Now he's interesting.
But he's no Jack the Ripper. The slice and dice specialist. No muss, no fuss. No waiting. Ladies a speciality. He had to get his jollies.
This is one messed up, sick dude I have never heard of before. And about JTR, he was the first, if not the only one to commit the perfect crime.

You're absolutely right. Jack never was caught. That's why he's my number one. The serial killer. Jack comitted the perfect crimes. Holmes was a seriously disturbed dude. But he was caught.
Yeah Jack is pretty intresting but that was like 120 years ago it would of very hard to catch him, plus he was quite intelligent. Yeah Holmes was quite messed up but they caught him and he wasn't that hard to catch.
Calisto7
11-25-2008, 09:59 PM
No he wasn't that hard to catch, but who knows how many he really killed. People just disappeared and people believed him when he made up stories about where they went! The castle itself is what is most interesting, I just can't believe all he did and what he went through to get it built. Plus he was one of the First Serial Killers in America (besides the Harps Brothers).
The book I am reading right now talks about Holmes and what he was doing while Daniel Burnham was planning and building the World's Fair. It really shows how the World's Fair helped Holmes find people to torture.
True Jack the Ripper is probably one of the most interesting because he was never caught. It's a mystery why he stopped or what happened to him and probably will always remain that way.
But then again Zodiac, depending on what you believe was never caught either...

There´s three ppl who I find to be more interesting than others. Dahmer and Ramirez are quite a boring answer so I´ll not get into that ;)
But the third is Edmund Kemper. You don´t hear very much about him anymore but I find him to be quite an interesting guy because he is a little bit different from most serial killers. I especially like the interwiev with him on you tube where he talks about himself and his crimes. He has a self irony and self insight that you don´t hear from many criminals. Also he seems to be very well spoken and intelligent.
He actually seems like a nice guy when watching him which is ironic considering the things he actually talks about!!
If you haven´t seen the interwiev I recommend you watch it on you tube, it´s quite interesting!

Yes he did his mother...and his grandparents...And many other screwed up things!
Jack the ripper has never interested me. Many ppl find that story interesting because he was never caught. To be it just makes it less interesting. When you don´t know who did it and know nothing about his life it loses half of the amusement! To me anyway ;)

He did his mother in, didn't he?
Jack is still the most intriguing. IMO. Never found. So many theories.
But to get to know JtR better you need to look at those other killers that was into the same type of patterns. Kemper is interesting if you consider what he was doing to the girls he picked up; he killed them in order to engage himself with their corpses.
In Europe you got Vacher, Tessnow and Kürten (all of them went after farm animals as well). Kürten is also the first serial killer to admit to being interviewed at length about his motives; I think Karl Berg was the name of the psychiatrist who earned his trust.
Jenna; ever been to SvenskaMord? Jag har samma namn där som här...

I've always wondered if Jack's motive was merely his way of ridding the neighborhood of prostitutes. The plan being to kill a few in a gruesome manner and scare the rest away. I don't know if the ladies continued their business as usual in that area. If they did, maybe he gave up and moved away.

The true identity of the Boston Strangler is still not proven.
Many people don't believe that Albert DeSalvo was the strangler.
I read that the body of the Strangler's last alleged victim, Mary Sullivan was exumed and DNA tests of the semen didn't match DeSalvo.
Some experts say that DeSalvo was coached in his confession.
Some who have sudied the case, believe that there was more than one killer and that DeSalvo was just seeking notoriety.
They speculate that the killer who strangled the first half-dozen or so victims, who were all elderly, was the character that Gerald Frank identified as O'Brien is his book. They surmise that the later victims were killed by a copycat killer.

Two other killers that I find facinating are the Zodiac and Ed Gein.
The Zodiac killed at least 5 people and maybe 6 over a period of about three years and then disappeared. His identity is still a mystery.
Zodiac's letters and cryptograms demonstrated a highly intelligent, albeit perverted mind.
Most serial killers keep killing until they are caught or until they grow so old that they no longer have the vitality to commit their crimes. What happened to Zodiac? Did he die or move away to another State? Serial killers rarely ever commit suicide. Why did he stop killing????
Ed Gein facinates me because of the sheer weirdness of his crimes.
Gein was a ghoul who robbed graves and dressed up in costumes made from the skin of the female corpses. Gein murdered at least two women.
Gein made lampshades from the skin of corpses and bowls from their skulls.
He was also a cannibal.
Unlike most serial killers who are inspired by lurid novels or motion pictures or the chronicles of other famous killers, like Jack the Ripper, Gein's bizarre fantasies were a product of his own imagination. Gein was poorly educated and lived in a rural area of Wisconsin in the 1950's.
Gein lived in a rundown farmhouse with no electricity. He wasn't a reader and never attended a movie and had no Radio or TV.
Gein was truly a weird dude.

For me, it's always been Zodiac. Very meticolous planning and a very fertile imagination. Also, I believe the murders were secondary to him, a means to an end. What he really liked was sending letters and terrorizing the city. I think that's why there are no known victims after Paul Stine. After coming to close to getting caught during the Stine muder, Zodiac realzed he could get the same thrill just from sending the letters, withous the risk of getting caught or killed himself.

I don't think Desalvo was the Strangler, and I don't think he confessed for noteriety. Desalvo knew they had him dead to rights as a rapist, but he knew if he confessed to the Strangler murders his wife could get money from a book and movie deal to take care of herself and their kids.

Gein also has the strange recognition of having three famous horror movie villians based on him:
Leatherface from Texas Chainsaw Massacre - Gein's family had owned a slaughterhouse
Norman Bates from Psycho - Gein thought his dead mother talked to him
Buffalo Bill from Silence of the Lambs - Gein made a body suits out of women's skin

Another serial killer who was never caught was the Butcher of Kingsbury Run.
http://www.trutv.com/library/crime/serial_killers/unsolved/kingsbury/index_1.html
The killer murdered and dismembered a number of people in Cleveland in the 1930's & 40's. Elliot Ness was the Commisioner of Public safety in Cleveland at the time and he had aspirations of running for governor.
Years later, Ness told an interviewer that the Butcher ruined his political career.
Had all of the victims been women and if Cleveland was more of a Media center, the Butcher og Kingsbury Run would be as notorious as Jack the Ripper or the Boston Strangler.

Unfortunately, that story about the man who crashed his ex-wife's family's Christmas party in a Santa suit, shot some people, and then blew up the house with a homemade flame thrower is probably going to go down in true-crime history as one of the most interesting mass murders.
I'll bet this guy's killed before and just hasn't been caught.

How unfortunate that the violent death of a man isn't as shocking as that of a woman.
:(
If we had had modern criminology in the 1930s, as well as CNN and the Internet to alert the whole world, whoever did this would probably have been caught.

Yea, good point. I have always thought of that as well. Any murder should be thought of, and mourned for, equally, and treated equally. Good thing we have the knowledge and hope that even though they aren't caught here in this life, they will face the ultimate judge when they die, and meet their maker.
