I would like to see the statistics on this type of crime. Either it is increasing or just in the media more. IMO

No charges are to be filed by the District Attorney regarding this case, there is no basis for the charges against Timothy Goerzen. It is an easy matter for any student to make a claim against this or any innocent teacher. Please remove his name from this database.

No charges to be filed against Indio math teacher suspected of sexual battery

No criminal charges will be brought against a 35-year-old Indio High School math teacher arrested two months ago on suspicion of sexually battering a female student, the Riverside County District Attorney's Office announced today.

Timothy Goerzen of La Quinta was arrested June 9 about 7:30 a.m. on the high school campus following an investigation conducted by Indio police detectives, who had recommended that a sexual battery charge be filed.

Goerzen posted $25,000 bail that day, and was instructed to appear in court this Monday.

"After a complete review of the facts and circumstances surrounding the case, we have declined to file charges,'' said Michael Jeandron, a spokesman for the District Attorney's Office. "The reason for this decision is based on the lack of sufficient evidence to warrant such a filing.''

Ben Guitron, spokesman for the Indio Police Department, said late today he had not been officially notified by the District Attorney's Office regarding the decision, and planned to ``look into the matter further'' with the detective bureau.

Guitron said he could not comment further.

Officials at the Desert Sands Unified School District could not be reached to discuss Goerzen's employment status.

Following the teacher's arrest last June, Jasmine Ceja, an 18-year-old Indio High School student who was in Goerzen's college prep trigonometry class, said she was shocked by the allegation.

Goerzen had always been nice and helpful to his students, she said.

"I've never seen any physical or inappropriate contact that he's done to his students,'' Ceja said.
