With all the changes that have gone on behind the scenes in recent months, which moderator should be contacted when there is a problem??? Who is left???

TIA ~ FD

Unknown. I PMed all of them several months ago with a question, and the only answer I got was from the CTV mod. And I've only reported one post in ages and ages, but it still sits. Who knows if the report was ever read?

Hmmm, interesting. My Norton sent me a pop up saying someone is trying to ping my computer, so turned up my speaker and sure enough, I hear this ping noise. I have no idea what that means, so I guess I will be busy googling that.

Not sure why anyone wants to ping my IP - weird. Anyone else besides lilmiss and me having this problem?

ping test is useful for pinpointing network connectivity problems and identifying IP address locations.

Thank goodness I'm not the only one this is happening to. I thought for a minute old Perky was up to some new tricks. This is what I found on the net:

What is ping?

Ping is a program that sends a series of packets over a network or the Internet to a specific computer in order to generate a response from that computer. The other computer responds with an acknowledgment that it received the packets. Ping was created to verify whether a specific computer on a network or the Internet exists, and is connected.

Some have claimed that the word "ping" is actually an acronym for "Packet Internet (or Inter-Network) Groper", deliberately contrived to play on the fact that pinging with a computer is similar to what submariners do with sonar. Both the computer and the submarine's sonar send out a "ping", in the form of either a series of packets or a brief burst of sound. The ping "bounces" off the target and then returns to let you know the target is there.

Ping is both a noun and a verb, e.g., "Ping that computer", or "the router didn't return a ping".
------------------------------------------------------
Okay, I also found out not all pings are bad, but some of them are. Sometimes it is someone looking for a computer to attack, especially if your computer answers back. Since I wasn't sure if it was dangerous or not, I disconnected the internet lines to my computer and shut it down. Not that I have anything interesting on my computer. I don't do any banking or buying online, even if the site says its a secure site. There is always someone trying to get past the security. If my checks aren't good enough for them, then I won't do business with them. Besides, someone has to buy stamps and envelopes, send the bills and what not through snail mail, so it might as well be me.

I checked thru my history log yesterday when it was happening and found these - it may have had something to do with an ad that CL has on the site.
Not sure though.

Does this mean we can get out the matches to play with now?
