The coloboma in Maddies eye is a birt defect. Some birth defect like coloboma of the eye is sometimes associated with other malformations in other parts of the body. What is interesting in this case is what is called the "CHARGE syndrome" where coloboma is associated with heart defects.

O...kay..... So what's the rest of the theory? If Madeleine died of natural causes as a result of some diagnosed birth defect - why cover it up, deny her a decent burial, put their lives on hold and con everyone including their own family?

Of course I find facts interesting - if they are significant to the case. It's a fact that Kate McCann is a Liverpudlian but I don't think that's particularly relevant (or interesting)!.

It's a fact that Madeleine has a coloboma but I am failing to see why the McCanns would go to all this trouble and risk to cover up a natural death. I know you didn't SAY anything about a cover up but surely that's exactly what it would have been if she died of natural causes and her parents hid her body and reported her abducted?

I'm sorry if I'm missing something significant here. There has just never been any suggestion that Madeleine suffered from any heart defect or that she had "charge" syndrome. The poster Elvislives who is a doctor explained the coloboma to us. I'm sure the discussion would come up in a search.

Apparently there's to be a tv programme on over the next week about some of the wild theories which have been popping up about the McCann case on the Internet.

Here is an information website about CHARGE Syndrome with numerous images showing children with typical characteristics. Ear and hand deformities seem to be common as do malformations of the forehead.

Incidentally Lodfafner - I Googled CHARGE and found similar threads to this one on the Mirror forum. Perhaps you've seen it? They are also speculating about the possibility there that Madeleine has Downs Syndrome there.

Imagination certainly knows no bounds.

I think this thread should be deleted since there is no evidence that Madeleine suffered from any syndromes or heart conditions. Apart from anything, if she DID suffer from a potentially life threatening condition - surely this would have come out by now? When an epileptic boy went missing in the UK a while back there was a major appeal regarding his safety and the fact that he had this condition and would require medical treatment.

Incidentally, I know three people with colobomas and none of them have any syndromes.

Maybe the parents don't know what happened. Maybe she died somewhere else?
Maybe someone else covered up a death they feared was caused by them even if she actually died from natural causes.

And I do agree Maddies ears and forhead looks normal to me.
