Ga. boys ages 8 and 9 charged with rape

ACWORTH, Ga. - Three boys ages 8 and 9 were being held Monday in a detention center on charges of kidnapping and raping an 11-year-old girl in the woods near a suburban apartment complex, officials said.

The alleged attack happened Thursday and the girl's mother reported it to authorities Sunday, Acworth police Capt. Wayne Dennard said.

"The victim said they were playing outdoors and the girl was forced into a wooded area where she was sexually assaulted, where one of the boys raped her," Dennard told The Associated Press.

The three boys — an 8-year-old and two 9-year-olds — were charged with rape, kidnapping, false imprisonment and sexual assault, Dennard said. They were due in juvenile court Monday afternoon. Their names were being withheld because of their age.

Dennard would not comment further.

Prosecutors had not received the case report from police on Monday, nor had they decided whether to try the suspects as adults.

"That decision hasn't been made," said Kathy Watkins, a spokeswoman for the Cobb County District Attorney's office. She had no further comment.

Acworth, 30 miles northwest of Atlanta along the shores of Lake Allatoona, is a town of about 17,000.

"This wouldn't be normal anywhere, but especially not Acworth," Dennard said.

I'm just shocked.....my cousins live in Acworth. I'll have to call them and see what they know about this, if anything. It's a really quiet community, most people who live there commute to Atlanta to work. I only live about 1 1/2 hours north, near Chattanooga TN (I know my location says Latrobe, PA- but that's where my heart is....Latrobe is my hometown).

I've been to Acworth many times....and it seems the last place you'd think something like this would happen (but then again, don't they all?). People live in Acworth because they want to be close to Atlanta without being too close, you know?

Horrible. Kids this age shouldn't even KNOW what rape is. The only thing I can think is that these boys have been raped themselves.....:mad:

Acworth Police Chief Mike Wilkie said said one of the boys was accused of threatening to hit the girl with a rock before the alleged assault. Wilkie also said the investigation is "far from over," and investigators are looking into claims that after the alleged attack, the girl talked about it with her friends at a slumber party.

The father of the 8-year-old boy said his son had been falsely accused and had not had sex with the girl.

The sexual activity was consensual, and the girl accused her playmates only after her parents had learned she had sex, said the father, Brandon LeBlanc.

"There was no violence involved," LeBlanc said. "This is a clear case of a girl who didn't want to get in trouble with her parents."

He added, "In order to save her hide, she tried to blame it on rape."

The girl's mother, however, told WGCL-TV in Atlanta, "They do need to be taught a lesson because if they do it to her, they could do it to somebody else. And who knows when they become teenagers what they can do to other girls."

If one of those boys had been mine he would have to hope that he NEVER gets out. Because I would BREAK his A** with every stick in the forest for doing something like this. ITA that they have been exposed to some type of sexual violence. But, may God straighten them out. Before they get around my daughter....:no:

It is hard for me to visualize the situation. In my mind the 11 year old girl would just whip the boys rears. But perhaps she was frail and they were large for their age.

It's a horrible story and I need more information which I probably won't get because they are so young.

Oh My God! How in the heck do 8 and 9 year old little boys know how to rape someone? How does an 11 year old little girl, if not raped, have "consensual" sex with 8 and 9 year old boys. This story just made me sick. How are our young people finding out about this stuff? What the hell is happening in our world that 8 and 9 year old little boys are not playing with trucks and playing basebal, but are going out and finding 11 year old girls to have sex with???? :cuss:

Zoey, ITA....I was barely AWARE of the opposite sex until about age 12...and then it was "oooh, isn't he cute?" NOT "let's have sex!" Sex? I thought "sex" was KISSING!

And no, I'm only 40 years old....so it wasn't THAT long ago! (Although my kids think differently). So what has changed in the twenty-eight years since I was 12?

Video games.....sexy and violent. I had Atari.....Pong and Space Invaders.

Movies.....kids are watching sex and violence at incredibly young ages....and they don't even have to leave their bedrooms to do it.

We had ONE TV....my dad controlled it. Gunsmoke and Big Valley, variety shows and the Waltons. Hey, I thought it was lame, too. If he was busy, I got to watch Three's Company and Charlie's Angels....still, not enough to rot my brain.

It's a sad state of things when 8, 9, and 11 year-olds are having sex, whether it be rape or consensual. Some people don't believe that TV, movies, and video games are having any effect on our kids. Those people are just plain stupid, IMO.

I read this in the paper this morning I just can't believe that a 8,9 and 11yr old would know what sex is..when I was those ages I was playing with dolls and worrying about what cartoon shows were on..and I can't believe what the father said if that was my son if I had one I would be pressing charges of my own against him..
