Police Sergeant's Wife Goes Missing

Husband's History May Present Clues

chicagotribune.com - October 30, 2007

BOLINGBROOK, Ill. -- State Police are searching for the wife of a southwest suburban Bolingbrook police sergeant.

"Because he's one of our officers, we thought it would be better to have an independent agency investigating," Bolingbrook Mayor Roger Claar said of the state's involvement in the disappearance of Stacey Peterson.

It was not clear how long Peterson, the 23-year-old wife of Bolingbrook police Sgt. Drew Peterson, has been missing. Illinois State Police Trooper Mark Dorencz at first declined to comment on the matter, but later said the state is handling the case as a missing persons investigation.

The Bolingbrook police department said Drew Peterson was not scheduled to work Monday. A message left for him at the department went unreturned.

According to an Illinois State Police news release -- which spelled her name Stacy Ann Peterson -- she was last heard from at 10 a.m. Sunday. She was supposed to help a friend do some painting, but never showed up.

Stacy Peterson is described as a white female, 5-feet 2-inches tall, about 100 pounds, with brown hair and eyes. She was last seen wearing a red jogging suit. She has a tattoo of a blue and yellow carnation on the small of her back and a scar across her stomach, the release said.

According to the release, Stacy Peterson frequents Joliet Junior College and her family reported her missing at 4 a.m. Monday.

Drew Peterson's previous wife, 40-year-old Kathleen Savio, was found dead in the dry bathtub of her Pheasant Chase home in March 2004. Drew Peterson and Savio were divorced and he was returning their two sons to their home after a weekend visit, but no one answered the locked door.

Peterson went to a neighbor's to call a locksmith. Once entry was gained, the neighbor went inside and found Savio's body in a waterless bathtub.

The investigation revealed Savio drowned. Her fingertips showed pruning from being submerged in water and her hair was wet when she was found. While there was no water in the bathtub, it may have drained out over time, as the plug was down, investigators speculated.

A coroner's jury ruled the death accidental. State Police investigated that case as well. No charges were filed.

According to one official, Savio was Drew Peterson's third wife, and Stacey Peterson is his fourth. — continued: »

Anybody else get the feeling things are just not right with this story? I saw this on Nancy Grace tonight, too, and it was just a feeling that they sure are keeping a lot of the details of this case under wraps.

I've been watching this - thanks for the updates Odette. :rose: Sheesh why didn't he just give her the divorce? So what if it would cost him 4 years of his pension. Just think, if they find her body and he's tried and convicted, he'll have no pension and no home except prison. Serves him right. I'm also glad LE is looking into his previous wife's death - her accidental drowning sounds really suspicious IMO.

Family, friends search woods for missing Bolingbrook mother

Missing woman, 23, likely dead, they say

chicagotribune.com - Emma Graves Fitzsimmons - November 4, 2007

Giving up hope that missing Bolingbrook mother Stacy Peterson is alive, her family and friends are now focused on finding information to help with the investigation into her disappearance.

Dozens of people combed a forest near her home for several hours on Saturday looking for any traces of the 23-year-old, who disappeared last Sunday. Their search through the wooded Knoch Knolls Park came up empty, but the group planned to return with more people on Sunday morning.

Peterson's sister, Cassandra Cales, said the family no longer believes she is alive. — continued

SUNDAY UPDATE: Search for Clues of Cop's Missing Wife Gets Bigger

wbbm780.com

BOLINGBROOK (WBBM) ― Family and friends of a missing woman from Bolingbrook launched a massive search effort this weekend.

Stacy Peterson, 23, has now been missing for a week. Her husband, Bolingbrook police Sgt. Drew Peterson, was the last one to see her this past Sunday.

Two new earches for Stacy Peterson were undertaken Saturday. Neighbors were conducting the first search at the Petersons' house, where Drew remains with the children.

Then, they searched the DuPage River Greenway.

Friends and family members of Stacy Peterson started another search this morning -- and they'll use any volunteers -- starting at 9 a.m. at 6 Pheasant Chase Court. — continued: »

Tales of missing, slain women stirring up fears

Investigators must make their disappearances a priority too

suntimes.com - MARY MITCHELL - November 4, 2007

The Authentic Diva called me in a panic. "You'd better be careful," she said with urgency. "I walk on the lakefront every day, and I'm going to get me some Mace."

"I'm not worried," I told her. "I've got Smoochie." Smoochie is a trash-barking, mixed-breed malamute who won't let strangers come near me.

But I understood my friend's anxiety after the string of stories we've seen lately about Chicago area women who have gone missing and later were found dead. — continued: »

Stacy called marriage 'somewhat abusive' in e-mail to family friend

suburbanchicagonews.com - Jennifer Golz - November 4, 2007

Stacy Peterson may have told friends and family she wanted a divorce from her husband, Bolingbrook police Sgt. Drew Peterson.

But she wrote her own chilling message in e-mails to a friend, who shared them with The Sun.

"I have been arguing quite a bit with my husband," Stacy wrote in an e-mail to family friend Steve Cesare 10 days before she disappeared.

"As I mature with age I am finding that the relationship I am in is controlling, manipulative and somewhat abusive," she wrote in the Oct. 17 e-mail. "Tomorrow is our four-year anniversary and I'm not as excited as the years that have passed.

"If you could keep me in your prayers I could use some wisdom, protection and strength." — continued: »

A history of failed marriages

suburbanchicagonews.com - Jennifer Golz - November 4, 2007

Bolingbrook police Sgt. Drew Peterson has a history of marrying quickly and jumping from marriage to marriage.

At least that's been the case with his three most recent wives.

Not much is know about Peterson's first wife, including her name and when they wed.

But by October 1982 that marriage must have dissolved, because that's when Peterson married his second wife, Victoria Rutkiewicz, Will County court records show. — continued: »

Searching for loved ones

Stebic family, national group offer support

suburbanchicagonews.com - Emily McFarlan - November 5, 2007

Families with missing loved ones are reaching out to the family of missing 23-year-old Bolingbrook woman Stacy Peterson. — continued

Excerpt: Past concerns surface
With word of Stacy Peterson's disappearance splashed across national media, the Bolingbrook Police Department has come under criticism on the Internet and cable news programs.

Cales and other members of Stacy Peterson's family have expressed their suspicions that Drew Peterson knows more about Stacy's disappearance than he is telling.

Many critics say the police department has failed to respond to allegations of his abusive behavior against his third wife, Kathleen Savio, who was found dead in a waterless bathtub in 2004.

Prosecutors have started re-examining Savio's case since Stacy Peterson's disappearance, and the department has paperwork from more than 15 different reports detailing alleged abusive behavior between Drew Peterson and Savio.

Bolingbrook police Chief Ray McGury plans to publicly discuss those reports later today.

I live in Bolingbrook not far from the Peterson's and although I did not know them it is the eeriest thing to go thru. Having something like this happening in your town is too freaky. All I can say is that it is so obvious that something is wrong with this man. Stacy's neighbor, Sharon Bychowski, told the media that Stacy feared her husband for almost all of their marriage and the last year was especially bad. She wanted out. Peterson's 3rd wife's order of protection stated that he literally attacked her and threatened to kill her. This guy is nuts and either the coroner was a complete moron or their was some kind of cover up. To me it's so clear that he did something to Stacy, I would like to know why they can't grill him and find out more. Maybe there is a lot going on we dont know about.
P.S. Odette, this site has by far given me the best info to date on this case. You are doing a wonderful job in keeping up with the news as it comes in. Your work is not being unappreciated.

Thank you oops for your thank you :)

The Lisa Stebic case is interesting too. I really must read more about the case. I read that Craig Stebic has made some comments about Stacy's case.

Like you oops, I too don't think that Stacy will be coming home .. very, very sad. :(

Excerpt: Craig Stebic Shows Empathy For Bolingbrook Husband

"I know what he's going through," said Stebic, an unemployed Plainfield pipefitter who has recently been criticized for offering little assistance in the search for his missing wife. "Especially with you media and everything."

The published report states that while Craig Stebic might think his heart is in the right place, his concern for the embattled Bolingbrook police sergeant has left his in-laws confused.

"Craig has cut us off from the children. But he has a moment to say he empathizes with Drew Peterson?" said Melanie Greenberg, spokeswoman for Lisa Stebic's family.

"I'm not usually speechless, but I was speechless for a moment after that," Greenberg said.

Search Team Combs Forest For Stacy Peterson

Team Founder: 'Something Probably Bad Happened To Her'

cbs2chicago.com - Mike Puccinelli - Nov 6, 2007

ROMEOVILLE, Ill. (CBS) ― A national organization known for finding missing persons joined Tuesday in the search for Stacy Peterson, the 23-year-old Bolingbrook mother who has now been gone for nine days.

As CBS 2 West Suburban Bureau Chief Mike Puccinelli reports, Peterson disappeared just one day before she was supposed to meet her divorce attorney. She was married to Bolingbrook police Sgt. Drew Peterson, who was three decades her senior.

The non-profit group Texas Equusearch has set up headquarters at the house next to the Peterson, and has now launched a full-scale search for the mother of two. — continued

Excerpt: "We're here for one reason, again, and that's because Stacy's missing," Miller said. "Unfortunately, I think enough time has gone by that we still hold that little glimmer of hope, but we've worked 790 of these cases, and past experience lets us know that something probably bad happened to her."

As of 11 a.m., searchers were looking for Stacy on the Isle a la Cache Forest Preserve, located on an island in the Des Plaines River.

Drew Peterson has not shown up, and so far has not assisted in any of the searches. He said he last saw his wife Sunday morning, and claimed to have spoken to his wife Sunday night. He said she told him she was leaving him.

Searches for missing Bolingbrook woman come up empty

Nearly 50 volunteers aid private group in search for mother

chicagotribune.com - Matthew Walberg and Erika Slife - November 7, 2007

Scores of police and volunteers combed more than a dozen areas in search of a missing Bolingbrook woman without success Tuesday. — continued

Excerpt: Meanwhile, amid media speculation that Drew Peterson had left the area, his close friend Richard Mims said he did not believe that to be true. "I talked to Drew three or four times today," Mims said. "Drew's not in hiding—he's just hiding from the press."

Gutierrez said investigators last spoke with Peterson Thursday when they executed a search warrant at his home, taking guns, a computer, a cell phone and the couple's vehicles.

"We have talked to him, and like we said, he's been cooperative," Gutierrez said.

He said investigators went to the home Monday with papers for Peterson, but no one answered the door.

He would not explain why investigators visited the home nor describe the papers, saying only that they were part of the investigation. Asked whether police were concerned Drew Peterson might be unreachable, Gutierrez said, "He's not a suspect—this is still a missing persons case."

New Search Warrant Executed In Search For Woman

cbs2chicago.com - Nov 6, 2007 11:13 pm US/Central

BOLINGBROOK, Ill. (CBS) ― Prosecutors say a new search warrant has been issued and executed for the home of a Bolingbrook police sergeant whose wife has disappeared.

Neighbors told CBS 2 the state investigator police went into the home with a nylon bag and a camera. They reportedly spent less than an hour inside, but when the investigators came out, neighbors say, they clearly had something in the bag but it was not apparent what that was. — continued

Family Of Bolingbrook Cop's Deceased Wife Speaks

Sister Of Drew Peterson's Late Third Wife Says She Thinks He Harmed Her

cbs2chicago.com - Mike Puccinelli - Nov 7, 2007 6:22 pm US/Central

JOLIET, Ill. (CBS) ― The search continues for missing Bolingbrook mother Stacy Peterson. Meanwhile, after not being seen for days, her husband, Drew Peterson, made an appearance in Joliet. — continued

Excerpt: Three and a half years after Kathleen Savio was found dead in a bathtub, her sister is speaking out for the first time for her desire to see her youngest sister exhumed from her eternal resting place.

When asked if she would support the exhuming of her sister, Anna Doman said, "Yes, if that's what it takes. In a minute."

That's because Anna Doman says Kathleen always believed that her husband, Drew Peterson, would hurt her.

"She told me she'd never make it to the end of the divorce. She'd never make the property settlement," Anna Doman said. "That's a shame."

Anna Doman said Kathleen Savio told her she knew she would be killed. And although she's never said publicly that she believed Drew Peterson killed Kathleen, she's not holding back anymore.

Coroner: Sergeant’s 3rd wife’s death should have been ’undetermined’

daily-journal.com - Gary Bishir - 11/7/2007

BOLINGBROOK, Ill. (AP) — The 2004 death of a Bolingbrook police sergeant’s third wife should have been ruled “undetermined,” the Will County coroner said Wednesday.

No charges were filed after Drew Peterson’s former wife Kathleen Savio, 40, drowned in a bathtub in March 2004 and a coroner’s jury ruled the death accidental. Peterson’s fourth wife, Stacy Peterson, has been missing for 11 days, prompting authorities to review Savio’s death.

“Certain aspects of Kathleen Savio’s death raised concerns for me as well. In my professional opinion … at the very least, her death should have been ruled ’undetermined,”’ Coroner Patrick O’Neil said in a statement. “The coroner’s jury unfortunately ruled otherwise.”

At the 2004 inquest, the coroner said Savio drowned, even though there was no water in the bathtub when she was found. Investigators have theorized that the water must have drained out of the tub. continued (http://daily-journal.com/bloggers/breakingnews/?p=1588)

Coroner disagrees with inquest finding

He disputes ruling that death of cop's 3rd wife was accident

chicagotribune.com - Matthew Walberg and Erika Slife - November 8, 2007

Will County Coroner Patrick O'Neil said late Wednesday he disagreed with the finding of an inquest that the 2004 death of a Bolingbrook police sergeant's third wife was an accident, even as volunteers continued their search for the sergeant's fourth wife. — continued

Excerpt: Medical records and letters obtained from Savio's relatives outline a pattern of alleged abuse and frustration with a lack of action by Bolingbrook police.

In May 1993, Savio was treated at a Hinsdale hospital for a head injury suffered, she alleged, when her husband hit her head on the dining room table.

In December 2002, a copy of a Bolingbrook police dispatch report alleges that after "taking pictures at a wedding and drinking all night," the police officer came home and trashed their home, furious that his wife came home early to be with their young children rather than close a bar the couple owned. The report noted that police responded, and then stated: "Female left residence to spend night at her sister's house[.] Problem solved."

And in a November 2002 letter to a Will County assistant state's attorney, Savio mentioned Peterson's relationship with his current wife.

"When I found out Mr. Peterson was having an affair with a minor . . .,he began to get very violent," she wrote. "Their [sic] has been several times throughout my marriage with this man where I ended up at the emergency room in Bolingbrook for injuries, and I have reported this only to have police leave my home without filing any reports."

'There is no way my sister was not murdered'

Family of Peterson's dead ex-wife hopes her cause of death will be re-examined

suburbanchicagonews - Jennifer Golz - November 8, 2007

The family of Kathleen Savio is willing to do whatever it takes to get to the bottom of her mysterious death.

And that might mean exhuming her body from her grave at Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Hillside.

"There is no way my sister was not murdered," Anna Marie Doman said in an interview with CBS 2 investigative reporter Mike Puccinelli.

Found facedown in a waterless bathtub with bruises and cuts about her body, and toxicology reports that showed no signs of drugs or alcohol in her system, it "looks to me like someone helped her fall," Doman said. — continued

Wow, within that link there is a video regarding Peterson's 3rd wife Kathleen. In it her sister shows the letter that Kathleen wrote describing her husband's behavior. It is unbelievable how this woman basically knew that her husband was going to kill her one day and that she couldn't get any help from the police. It's so sad that she had no where to turn. She was physically beaten and threatened by this man and it's in her own words. It's very damning for him. I just pray that these women get the justice they deserve. IF and I say if only because nothing has been proven yet, but if Drew did this just look at what he has caused. Not only the deaths of possibly two people but he has ruined and shamed the lives of so many others. He has 6 children and their lives are affected forever. But why? and for what? He is either mentally sick or he is just an evil evil human being. I do know that we are all stronger than him and together we WILL bring him down. We have to.

About 60 volunteers resumed the search Thursday for Stacy Peterson, the Bolingbrook mother who was last seen Oct. 28 by her husband, Sgt. Drew Peterson.

Prosecutor Wants Kathleen Savio Exhumed

Jamie Colby - November 8th, 2007

Will County State’s Attorney James Glasgow’s investigation into the 2004 death of Kathleen Savio, Drew Peterson’s third wife takes a new turn this hour. His office is speaking right now to the Savio family about exhuming Kathleen’s body. The Savio family has already said publicly they support the exhumation of Kathleen’s remains for further review.

The prosecutor is not obligated to get the family’s permission to do this but his office tells me he believes this is the right thing to do. What can be learned by looking at Kathleen Savio’s remains three years later? A second autopsy might not be possible but her remains could be thoroughly re-examined. The prosecutor is also not bound by the determination of the jury that heard the inquest and ruled her death an accidental drowning.

I’m also being told for the first time today that the Illinois State Police visited the previous State’s Attorney Jeff Tomczak within days of Savio’s death in 2004 “seeking guidance”. I’ve also learned that Tomczak’s file on the case is slim…there is very little paperwork available on that meeting with police or whatever investigation previous State’s Attorney Jeff Tomczak conducted. Why is that? One source suggests Drew Peterson may have had “connections” that limited the scope but I see no concrete proof of that. continued (http://colbyfiles.blogs.foxnews.com/)

Searchers believe missing woman is dead, hope to find clue

jg-tc.com - AP - DON BABWIN - November 8, 2007

BOLINGBROOK, Ill. - They believe they're looking for a body now.

Nobody scours the woods, peering behind bushes, or watches divers bob in a retention pond for somebody who is alive.

And they look in the windows of her house and they think the answer could be in there, behind those curtains. Stacy Peterson's friends and family just can't shake the notion that her husband could help them determine the 23-year-old mother of two's whereabouts.

"We all know she's dead. She wouldn't leave her kids," said Jim Murray, 38, who spent Thursday traipsing through an overgrown field about a mile from the couple's home looking for signs of the missing woman. "If we thought she was alive, we wouldn't be out here." — continued

November 8, 2007 - As teams continue to search for a missing Bolingbrook woman, prosecutors consider exhuming the body of her husband's third wife. — continued

Excerpt: "He has not taken part (in) anything to help us locate her," said Roy Taylor, whose mother moved next door to the Petersons' house four years ago. "He has not gone on television, pleading with her to come home. He has done nothing..."

Excerpt: The Savio family says she made several attempts to authorities to get help over her troubled relationship with Sgt. Peterson.

"She documented everything. She saves everything. She made copies of everything. She handwrote a lot of stuff. If something happened she wrote it out by hand. And the date, the time, this happened. QUESTIONS FOR HUSBAND | Drew Peterson called before grand jury as hunt for wife goes on

suntimes.com - DAN ROZEK, STEFANO ESPOSITO AND KARA SPAK - November 8, 2007

Eleven days after Stacy Peterson vanished, her police officer husband was called to testify Wednesday before a Will County grand jury.

Hours later, Coroner Patrick O'Neil said the 2004 death of Bolingbrook police Sgt. Drew Peterson's previous wife should not have been ruled accidental. — continued

Excerpt: Through a spokesman, Will County State's Attorney James Glasgow declined to comment on whether Peterson was called before the grand jury or why he was in the building across the street from the Will County Courthouse. It holds several courtrooms and a number of county offices, including Glasgow's office.

But sources confirmed that Peterson was called before a grand jury, which hears testimony from witnesses and has the power to return indictments against criminal suspects.

Stacy Peterson's sister, Cassandra Cales, said family members were told that Drew Peterson had been called before a grand jury but otherwise had little information.

The letters from the third wife were very interesting. Sad to say, but Stacy should have taken a long look at how her husband was treating the mother of his children and wondered if he would/could treat HER that way someday. It's unpleasant that she seemed to be antagonizing the situation herself by doing the things Kathleen described in her letter.

I've seen many men like Drew Peterson and unfortunately they go from one woman to the next. It seems they have very little regard for women, but for some reason NEED to have one. Notice how he jumps from one marriage into the next. That's a classic sign. Once he got a new woman, he treated his current wife like dirt and most likely killed her to get her out of the way.

Once Stacy showed signs of restlessness and tired of his domination, she wanted out! He most likely killed her as well because she defied him. For men like him, love means nothing once the woman gets out of his control.

He probably figured Stacy was young enough that he could mold her into the subservient type of woman he wanted...and he could keep her under his control.

Hopefully they will find her and he will be held accountable for his actions against BOTH women!

I don't know, it seems funny that he calls his neighbor, granted he's a locksmith, to open up the house for him. Then the neighbor is the one who discovers the body, not Drew. I find that interesting. I mean this way he has a witness to the discovery and Drew is not the actual "discoverer". I mean if he hadn't heard from his ex in a couple of days and he's a cop, he couldn't have gotten in another way?? It just seems like a set up to me. He planned it that way so it would take the suspicion off of him. Or am I reading into it too much???

suburbanchicagonews.com - Joe Hosey Staff - November 9, 2007

Police have identified Bolingbrook Sgt. Drew Peterson as a suspect in the disappearance of his fourth wife, Stacy, and have now labeled the missing persons case a possible homicide.

Will County State’s Attorney James Glasgow also announced this afternoon that a county judge cleared the way for the exhumation of the body of the third wife of Drew Peterson . — continued

Excerpt: "The 1-inch gash on the back of Kathleen Savio's head did not render her unconscious, which would have been necessary for her to accidentally drown in the bathtub," Glasgow stated in the petition to the judge.

"This evidence is consistent with the 'staging' of an accident to conceal a homicide," the petition stated.

"Blood evidence in the tub is not consistent with an accidental drowning followed by water slowly leaking out of the tub."

Sgt. Peterson now a suspect in wife's disappearance

Stacy Peterson's family calls it 'first step'

suntimes.com - DAN ROZEK - November 9, 2007

Bolingbrook Police Sgt. Drew Peterson this afternoon was formally labeled a suspect in the disappearance of his fourth wife, Stacy Peterson, who vanished Oct. 28.

The announcement came shortly after a judge ordered that the body of Peterson's third wife, Kathleen Savio, be exhumed after prosecutors argued the circumstances around her 2004 bathtub death appear suspicious. — continued

Excerpt: Pam Bosco, a spokeswoman for Stacy Peterson's relatives, said news that Drew Peterson is now considered a suspect in his wife’s disappearance has summoned mixed emotions.

"This is the first step in the direction we need to go," Bosco said this afternoon. "Those words only mean we most likely won't see Stacy again. That's the saddest part of this."

Bosco said she was standing next to Stacy's father when they both heard the news about Drew Peterson. "To hear that and look at him, and know what he's thinking, it's very sad," Bosco said.

'HE DID MANY, MANY THINGS TO HER' | Kathleen Savio told family death 'may look like an accident, but it wasn't'

suntimes.com - DAN ROZEK AND STEFANO ESPOSITO - November 9, 2007

When Susan Savio got the news that her sister had drowned in her bathtub, she immediately wanted to know one thing: Did Drew Peterson kill her?

Kathleen Savio had told family "that if she would die, it may look like an accident, but it wasn't," Susan Savio said in a newly released transcript from a coroner's inquest into the death of Kathleen Savio, Peterson's third wife, who died in 2004 after they divorced.

"She was terrified of that -- [of] him and him threatening her," Susan Savio said. — continued

cbs2chicago.com - Nov 9, 2007

BOLINGBROOK, Ill. Drew Peterson, had "gone from being a person of interest to clearly being a suspect." — continued

Excerpt: "Early on, we looked at this as a missing persons case, but also believed strongly that based on the (Kathleen) Savio investigation (into the death of Drew Peterson's third wife) and the information that we were gleaning within the first 24 hours of the missing persons case with Stacy, was starting to strongly point to Drew Peterson being a person of interest," Dobrich said. Stacy Peterson Disappearance Called Homicide

cbs4.com - Nov 9, 2007

BOLINGBROOKE, Ill. (CBS) ― The investigation is quickly picking up steam to get to the bottom of what happened to two of Drew Peterson's four wives.

Excerpt: A neighbor of Drew Peterson said she and her family are afraid to stay in their house at night, and they may seek a restraining order to keep him from their house. It stems from an incident in which she called police after she said Drew Peterson approached her in her driveway, repeatedly screaming her name.

"The thing that really concerned me most of all is that he would go into my backyard and do it again, while the police officer's in the front of the yard," said neighbor Sharon Bychowski. "That sounds just like someone that's coming a little unglued."

BOLINGBROOK | Stacy a 'potential homicide'; 3rd wife murdered?

suntimes.com - DAN ROZEK AND STEFANO ESPOSITO - November 10, 2007

Bolingbrook police Sgt. Drew Peterson has cast himself as a misunderstood man whose young, pretty wife simply left him -- possibly for another man.

On Friday, Peterson officially became a suspect in Stacy Peterson's disappearance, in a case that's now labeled a "potential homicide," authorities said Friday.

Cop once fired over claim of betrayal

UNDERCOVER | Peterson was accused of outing fellow officer to killer

suntimes.com - STEFANO ESPOSITO AND DAN ROZEK - November 10, 2007

Retired State Police Lt. Col. Ronald Janota hasn't spoken to Drew Peterson in more than a decade, but Peterson is a man he hasn't forgotten and will never forgive.

In 1985, Janota was Peterson's boss at the Metropolitan Area Narcotics Squad -- working out of a "clandestine" office near Joliet, Janota told the Chicago Sun-Times this week. Peterson, for reasons Janota said he has never been able to explain, allegedly sabotaged one of the squad's drug stings and gave the identity of an undercover narcotics agent to a convicted killer under investigation for dealing drugs, Janota said.

"We found out from different sources that the identity of an Illinois State Police officer was revealed to the [killer], by Mr. Peterson," Janota said. " . . . We immediately notified the undercover officer that his life was in jeopardy."

Added Janota, "Putting a fellow officer's life in jeopardy is unforgivable as far as I'm concerned." — continued

Death of cop's 3rd wife called no accident

Body of woman will be exhumed, authorities say

chicagotribune.com - Matthew Walberg and Erika Slife - November 10, 2007

The body of an ex-wife of Bolingbrook police Sgt. Drew Peterson, whose current wife remains missing, will be exhumed and undergo a second autopsy, Will County State's Atty. James Glasgow said Friday, adding that he believed her death may have been staged as an accident.

"There are strong indications that it was a homicide," Glasgow said at a news conference about the death of Kathleen Savio, the former wife of Sgt. Drew Peterson. "That's why we're doing the exhumation, because there are tests that need to be done that weren't done during the first autopsy. Clearly, there are indications from the crime-scene photographs that are not consistent with an accident." — continued X 2 pages

Excerpt: Cales reported her sister missing early on Oct. 29.

That evening state police investigators searched the Peterson home.

"At the time, Mr. Peterson was cooperative and allowed our officers, including a crime-scene technician, into the residence to do a limited consensual search," Dobrich said. "Nothing was found. Both vehicles were found at the residence: a GMC Denali and a Pontiac Grand Prix. We were allowed access to the Denali, but not to the Grand Prix."

On Nov. 2, investigators executed a search warrant for the house, the vehicles and a trailer at the home. Four days later, they returned with a second search warrant.

"As you can see, based on those search warrants, investigators felt that we might find evidence of a crime in the home or in the vehicles and supportive evidence in the computers that were taken from the residence," Dobrich said.

He would not discuss what evidence was recovered.

Glasgow said he learned of the Savio case when it came up as part of the investigation into Stacy Peterson's disappearance.

"I read the autopsy protocol," Glasgow said. "I read the inquest; I looked at the crime-scene photographs; and I looked at the photographs from the autopsy. And with 29 years of experience, there's no doubt in my mind it wasn't an accident. That was clear."

Authorities suspect Savio may have been knocked unconscious elsewhere and then placed in the tub. In their petition, prosecutors wrote that the head wound "did not render her unconscious" and that "evidence is consistent with the 'staging' of an accident to conceal a homicide."

"The abrasions that were seen on her left buttock and her elbow are not the type of injuries that would occur on a smooth surface as those in the tub area," Glasgow said.

It was unclear when Savio's body would be exhumed. An independent medical examiner will conduct a full autopsy to try to find out what caused Savio's unconscious state, he said.

"No one drowns in a bathtub without being unconscious," Glasgow said, adding the examiner will look for "fractures of bones [and] subcutaneous bruises that could indicate choking or other injuries."

Attached is the directions from Drew Peterson’s house to the Green Valley Preserve where the shallow grave was found. As you can see it is only 6.90 miles from his home. I live in Naperville and this is a wooded area with a lot of paths but not a whole lot of traffic. Can be very deserted. I know that glider planes are also able to take off and land here from the hill.

Missing Illinois Mom's Neighbor Reports Cop-Husband's Odd Behavior to Police

foxnews.com - November 10, 2007

BOLINGBROOK, Ill. — A neighbor of an missing Illinois woman filed a police report against the woman's husband and recalled seeing the mother of two sitting at the end of her driveway in tears a week before she disappeared, she told FOX News.

"’He's all packed up and I want him to go,’" Stacy Peterson reportedly said, according to neighbor Sharon Bychowski. Six boxes allegedly filled with Drew Peterson’s belongings sat in the couple’s open garage, Bychowski said. — continued

Why Did Drew Peterson Take Me On A House Tour?

Fox News - Jamie Colby - November 9th, 2007

Excerpt: At this point, alone with Drew as he took me room by room to show me how he and Stacy and their children lived, I was in the basement. I did consider bolting…it felt scary and strange…but Drew was surprisingly subdued. I guessed he might have been drinking or was medicated but I don’t know for sure. I did not at any time feel I was in danger. But make no mistake. Drew had just told a news crew at the door “don’t ever return a library book late…see what can happen”. Behavior I can only term bizarre.

Drew told me he was a good kisser. He also told me things about Stacy I would not, out of respect, repeat.

UPDATE (7:55pm): The ashes referenced above are those of Stacy’s sister who died recently of cancer. Stacy had kept them in the home she shared with / shares with Sgt. Drew Peterson. Cory just called me moments ago and said Sgt. Peterson did give her Stacy’s sister’s ashes…and Cory just watched her walk out of the house with the ashes. Hence….while an obviously emotional and difficult situation….and awkward…… it is now accomplished and with ease and no problem. That is the good news in a very bad situation.

"She's where she wants to be.", according to Drew. Considering the statements by everyone who knows about this couple's marriage, I can just hear her saying during an argument, "I'd rather be dead that married to you!"

This guy is the prime example for the reason a pre-employment screening with Dr. Hare's Psychopathy checklist should be mandatory. This man has been a cop for what, 28 years? Did he recently become a psychopath? Hardly....

Another search and still no signs

Chicago Tribune - Gerry Smith - November 10, 2007

Covering the largest area yet searched since the disappearance of Bolingbrook mother Stacy Peterson about two weeks ago, more than 120 volunteers combed 40 square miles of densely wooded areas Saturday but again came up empty.

The volunteers, led by Texas EquuSearch, searched the Green Valley Forest Preserve, near Naperville. Peterson, 23, was last seen by her husband Oct. 28, when, he has said, she left their home on Pheasant Chase Court in Bolingbrook to help her sister paint a house.

EquuSearch founder Tim Miller said volunteers marked several 'things of interest' in the forest preserve and were continuing to use sonar equipment to search bodies of water, but he did not give any specific areas. Miller said his team would take Sunday off to go over their findings and examine more than 2,500 high-resolution images taken from an airplane Saturday as it flew over a 25-mile diameter around Bolingbrook.

'We're trying to highlight anything that looks out of place, like new dig sites, or an individual' said Sean Henady, founder of Indiana-based Aerial Image Corp., which took the aerial images. — continued

'He was a knight in shining armor'

suntimes.com - KARA SPAK - November 11, 2007

Excerpt: Then one day, Drew Peterson appeared at the hotel where Stacy worked. They talked over coffee; he would drop in during her shift. Months later, they became intimate, Stacy told Klitzke.

Savio divorced Peterson in 2003 after learning of the affair and that Stacy was pregnant. Drew Peterson married Stacy later that year.

Cassandra said she was surprised when Stacy told her she was marrying Drew. They exchanged vows in a field in Bolingbrook. Drew invited one son as his witness. Stacy asked Cassandra to be there.

Thrived as a young mother

"They didn't want to tell any of the family," Cassandra said. "They just wanted to get it done."

Klitzke said when she learned about Drew Peterson, she told Stacy she should date someone her own age. Stacy seemed genuinely happy, though.

"There was the jewelry, he wined and dined her," she said. "He was a knight in shining armor."

Search firm's chief heads to South to help find missing teens

Crews to focus on water before ice sets in

Chicago Tribune - Alexa Aguilar - November 11, 2007

The director of a national search firm that has been scouring fields and woods for Stacy Peterson said Sunday he is leaving Illinois to start searches for two missing teens in the South.

Tim Miller, founder and director of Texas EquuSearch, has been organizing daily searches for the mother of two who was last seen by her husband Oct. 28.

Miller said he spent Sunday reviewing last week's findings, including hundreds of aerial images. In the coming days, volunteers will scale back the ground search and concentrate on bodies of water before icy temperatures make those searches impossible, he said.

'I don't think it's going to be long' before searchers uncover something, he said. He added, however, that he felt the same way last Monday.

Miller said he is leaving because of searches for missing teenagers in Alabama and Georgia but would return to Bolingbrook midweek.

'I will be back,' he said. — continued

There is rampant speculation out here in Bolingbrook among some of my competitors covering this story. The latest rumor: that a relative or friend of Drew Peterson has committed suicide, because the heat of police questioning got to him. It’s mind boggling how misinformation gets spread on some of these stories. Then again, it’s our business to gather information, and you still have to turn a story, even when police aren’t talking.

FYI: the Will County State’s Attorney will not reveal when the exhumation of the body of Kathleen Savio will take place. However, it seems as if today is unlikely, because of the observance of Veteran’s Day. Typically, this is a day for families to visit cemeteries to pay respects to loved ones, and it seems implausible that a high-profile exhumation would take place, and potentially disrupt those visiting other gravesites.

Have a good one…

Note: Jeff emailed me again to make sure you know that neither Sgt. Peterson’s brother nor Ric Mims (his friend) is dead. The above is meant just to show you how rumors send us scrambling…

Note that we have spoken to and interviewed Ric many times since Stacy vanished but I learned many new things talking to him in this GretaCast so I assume you will, too.

Subject: Here ya go

A ray of hope this afternoon among those looking for Stacy Peterson. Family spokeswoman, Pamela Bosco just held a press conference in Bolingbrook to brief reporters on today’s search, which included 70 volunteers. She says, Illinois State Police has provided search teams with new information about new areas, which will be searched tomorrow. “We were given…some information, that police have had, that we were now provided, they are leading us into another area.” Bosco was short on specifics on the location for tomorrow’s search. And I don’t blame her. After all, her first mission is to find Stacy…not to aid reporters.

On another note, it seems likely that tomorrow will be the day to unearth the body of Kathleen Savio. A tent was put up today at the suburban Chicago cemetery where Savio was buried nearly four years ago, presumably to give the Savio family their privacy. I talked to Kathleen’s niece, Melissa, a few hours ago. She was hopeful that the exhumation would take place at night. She stressed how appreciation to the media for helping bring to light the suspicious manner of her aunt’s death.. The family believes the media has helped shine the truth on the death of Kathleen. That said, they feel the exhumation should be a family affair, with the media kept away.

It is absolutely ironic that after all these years the families of Kathleen Savio and Stacy Peterson have formed this pact of solidarity. Remember, Drew and Stacy said their “I Do’s,” a mere 8 days after the finalization of Drew’s divorce to Kathleen. And Stacy Peterson had just given birth to her son Anthony. When asked by a reporter today about the imminent exhumation, Pamela Bosco said, “I think both sides are very happy. I think it will provide a lot of answers to the questions we have and hopefully, progress the case a little bit faster than it is.”

Have a great show tonight. I’ll be back here early tomorrow morning.

Detectives need to get a clue

suntimes.com - November 13, 2007

So now, prosecutors say there are "strong indications" that Kathleen Savio's bathtub death in 2004 was a homicide. Somehow all those clues -- the dry tub, the $1-million life insurance policy, the numerous abuse complaints to police, the deathly fears Kathleen confided to her family -- didn't raise eyebrows until Kathleen's successor, Stacy Peterson, went missing two weeks ago. Duh. Even a novice ''CSI'' viewer could have scoped that out.

Officer's wife vanishes

Prosecutor orders exhumation of police sergeant's third wife after a mother of two goes missing

canada.com - Mary Vallis - National Post - Tuesday, November 13, 2007

Stacy Ann Peterson had not yet been born when her husband, Drew Peterson, became a police officer in suburban Illinois. — continued X 2 pages

Excerpt: According to the Bolingbrook Police Department, Ms. Peterson was last heard from around 10 a.m. on Oct.. 28. She never arrived to help friends with a painting job that day; family members reported her missing around 4 a.m. on Oct. 29.

Sgt. Peterson, who has worked for the Bolingbrook force since 1977, did not show up for his usual overnight shift, according to Lieutenant Ken Teppel of the Bolingbrook police. He later told authorities his wife called around 9 p.m. to say she was leaving him for someone else.

Friends and relatives of Ms. Peterson say that story does not add up. They paint a picture of a young woman who had grown increasingly afraid of her husband and worried for her life. Nonetheless, they are convinced she would never leave her children.

"It was pretty much the end of every conversation we had when we were together or when we spoke on the phone, that one day, if she never answered her phone or if we ever couldn't get a hold of her, we would need to look for her, that somethinghappened," Kerry Simmons, Ms. Peterson's half-sister, recently told NBC's Today show.

Relatives of Sgt. Peterson's previous wife, Ms. Savio, tell a similar story about her rel ationship with the officer. Some still doubt the outcome of the inquest. In fact, Susan Savio told the inquest jury her sister feared for her safety around Sgt. Peterson. She testified, "If she [Kathleen Savio] would die, it may look like an accident, but it wasn't."

In reviewing the case after Ms. Peterson's disappearance, Mr. Glasgow, the state attorney for Will County, agreed that related facts and circumstances "appeared suspicious," according to court documents. Ms. Savio was found face-down in the bathtub, in which there was no water. Mr. Glasgow raised questions about a "one-inch gash" on the back of Ms. Savio's head, arguing it would not have caused her to lose consciousness, "which would have been necessary for her to accidentally drown in the bathtub."

"This injury would have bled profusely, but the blood evidence in the tub is not consistent with an accidental drowning followed by the water slowly leaking out of the tub," Mr. Glasgow writes in his petition to have Ms. Savio's body exhumed. He also notes that scrapes on her left elbow and buttock were "not consistent with having been caused by the smooth surfaces in the tub area" during a fall.

Death Of Cop's Third Wife Was Ruled Accident, But Is Being Reexamined

I hope they get something concrete on this guy I feel he didn't act alone he must have had help I hope someone comes forward and puts this Suspect DP where he belongs. There must be somebody who isn't afraid of HIM!! It is all over the news here I live about 25 miles from Bolingbrook and hopefully they can try him without a body I don't think they are going to find Stacy Peterson unforetunetly. I wonder also did he have another one to take Stacy's place it seems he can't stay away from YOUNG WOMEN VERY LONG!JMHO

What makes him even scarier, IMO, is that he was a policeman for 29 years (IIRC) and no doubt used his "power" to intimidate people in a ruthless way. Also, the fact that he is still "out there" walking around a free man would make my blood run cold if I had any connection to him (ex-wife, etc.).

I recently read a book about a man who did something quite similar, and for the life of me I can't recall the author of the book or the man's name... but he killed one woman quite a few years before killing the 2nd one... and both were because they had jilted him when he became so overbearing the women couldn't tolerate it. And there was one woman prior to those two that started the ball in motion. She had jilted him, and he never got over it and probably decided he would never let another woman walk away from him again. He was some kind of professional man... a dentist I believe, in case that triggers someone's memory of the book I read.

They all had similar looks, too, which I find very much in keeping with the Savio woman and the Peterson woman. I've seen their pix side by side and the similarities are quite noticeable, IMO.

I'll tell you this much... if I ever fall in love again, it will NOT be with a man named Peterson! Scott Peterson, Michael Peterson, Drew Peterson. Ewwww! LOL!

I finally remembered... it was Dr. Barton Corbin... and Ann Rule wrote the book entitled, "Too Late to Say Goodbye".

Authorities Exhume Cop's 3rd Ex-Wife's Body, Search Continues for Missing 4th Wife Stacy Peterson

FOX NEWS - Tuesday, November 13, 2007

BOLINGBROOK, Ill. — Authorities exhumed the body of a Chicago suburb cop's third ex-wife Tuesday to take a second look at how she died nearly four years ago after investigators reopened the case following the disappearance of his fourth wife. — continued

Excerpt: The exhumation will likely review the first autopsy, conduct a toxicology report and x-rays to determine if there were any broken bones, said Katherine Ramsland, who has worked on exhumation teams in potential criminal investigations.

"They will reexamine based on a new hypothesis of what happened," Ramsland said, a forensic psychology professor at DeSales University. "They have a reason and they're now going to look at her body against this new hypothesis."

Investigators are likely reviewing Drew Peterson's marriages to determine if there is a history of domestic abuse or any behavior patterns that would indicate the possibility of foul play, Ramsland said.

"Somebody who is going to kill another person isn't just going to act out of the blue," Ramsland said. "Certain behaviors point to it."

A plainclothes law enforcement officer just showed up at Peterson’s
house with a piece of white paper in hand. He walked straight to the
back door and returned empty handed.

I am presuming Drew Peterson was just supoaned to appear tomorrow before
the Will County Grand Jury, which a source tells me will listen to
testimony tomorrow regarding the death investigation of Kathleen Savio.
The grand jury typically meets on Wednesday in this county.

According to these quotes below, DP appears to have been been suspended from the BPD for something which is not related to the disappearance of his wife Stacy.

The officer still has custody of his children as the investigation proceeds. But he is barred from his job in what appears to be an unrelated coincidence. On Friday afternoon - the same day authorities announced plans to exhume his third wife and announced Sgt. Peterson as a suspect in his wife's disappearance - the Bolingbrook police suspended him pending an internal affairs investigation.

The suspension comes just one month before Sgt. Peterson was expected to retire from his US$85,000-a-year post after 30 years with the force.

"The police department is conducting an internal affairs investigation and he is suspended without pay until completion of that," Lieut. Teppel said yesterday. He did not disclose the nature of the investigation but confirmed it is not related to the disappearance of Sgt. Peterson's wife.

http://www.canada.com/nationalpost/news/story.html?id=68dac4f5-1370-4c69-9036-a44ce0db80d8&k=0

Late Friday, Bolingbrook police suspended Drew Peterson without pay and announced an internal review that could result in him being fired, though he is due to retire next month. Bolingbrook Police Chief Ray McGury said the suspension is not related to Peterson being a labeled a suspect but was based on an unrelated internal investigation.

Okay, I am not sure what exactly he did. I am from Bolingbrook, so I have been reading some local stuff here. I believe they say he's been suspended because supposedly he gave out some sort of order to another cop that he technically wasn't supposed to do. Or he ordered someone to fire a weapon when the weren't supposed to. Something to that effect. Please don't quote me on either assumption but I will see if I can find out where I read that.
Also, regarding Drew's brother. I have read on threads somewhere that the night of her disappearance, Drew had someone help him move a heavy rubbermaid container. Was it his brother?? What ever became of that rumor? Now I am hearing someone say he may have filled it with concrete and dumped it in a lake??? Anyone who can clear these rumors/possible facts would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

From what I've been reading there appears to be a barrel missing from DP's yard. It used to be there and now it's gone .. apparently.

According to the below quote the ISP have "expressed interest in a barrel once at the home of Drew Peterson".

Illinois State Police have expressed interest in a barrel once at the home of Drew Peterson, and searchers focused on that during their work.

Oh my! How could they ignore all this? Someone wasn't paying any attention to the details IMO. (Taken from the link above)

Glasgow said two of the bruises — one on Savio’s elbow and one on her buttocks — did not appear to be consistent with a fall in a bath tub that has a smooth surface.

Doctors also are expected to re-examine a 1-inch laceration to the back of Savio’s head that left blood at the scene.
After being read the contents of the initial Will County Coroner’s autopsy report dated March 20, 2004 — the autopsy was actually performed at 2:20 p.m. March 2, about 15 hours after Savio’s reported time of death — Walsh said two items appeared “to be a bit suspicious.”

In the initial autopsy performed by Bryan Mitchell, the doctor noted Savio’s tongue was “partially clenched between the teeth.”

“You need to be unconscious when you drown, and upon death the muscles in the face relax and the jaw relaxes. Typically you don’t die with your tongue clenched between your teeth. That might indicate there was a struggle at the end,” Walsh said.

Walsh also said the fact the doctor made no note about the presence of water in the lungs was conspicuous.

In the initial report Mitchell noted water was found in the Ethmoid sinuses but did not note whether water was present in the lungs.

“That (water in the lungs) is something you would typically indicate in the case of a drowning victim,” Walsh said.

I agree. I've read absolutely nothing about Savio's death that would indicate it shouldn't have been looked at VERY closely. Insurance policy, no water in the tub, gash on the back of her head, her pleas to family that if anything happened to her NOT to consider it an accident, etc. This man should never have been allowed to escape prosecution for her death, let alone be allowed to go out and do it again. So very sad.

He's a pretty smooth and convincing actor. It's kind of chilling watching him blithely talk about how he's got no idea why Stacey would disappear without contacting any of her family and children to tell them of her whereabouts; it's such an absurd proposition, yet he can smoothly dismiss this and other holes in his story without blinking. You can see why he's managed to get away with so much brutality because I have to say he looks and sounds persuasive, even though his words contradict the facts.

I agree... very persuasive and convincing. And oh so relaxed! Unfortunately, those are the very attributes of a sociopath. In his mind he's done nothing wrong... no doubt he feels they "deserved it".

What I can't really understand is his appeal to someone 30 years his junior. I guess he must have thrown around a lot of money to turn her head, because it's definitely not in his looks. Obviously, JMHO.

Yeah, he seems unembarrassed by how unlikely and logically flawed his explanations or stories are, maybe because he can't understand what the big deal is when you get rid of two people you can't control? That's what makes him more convincing though, because when you listen to him you kind of half-accept his explanation because of how smoothly he says it and then do a double take and think "Wait, what he said sounds stupid." I don't know if he's narcissistic or sociopathic though, because I don't know enough about those subjects.

In regard to how could they ignore this. I agree, it's ridiculous. I read a statement from one of the jury members(not sure what they are called)from the coroner's inquest. This group of people make the decision on what to officially rule the manner of death is, I believe. Anyway, he stated that he personally felt it was not an accident or that the evidence showed it was leaning toward not being an accident but that they just weren't sure. So basically in his statement he pretty much said that even he couldn't make enough of a determination, he knew it looked fishy but they didn't disagree with the coroner's findings. Very weird.
Now as far as Drew is concerned, I am trying to find a tape of him with Matt Lauer but haven't seen it yet. From the first moment I read his statements and heard him talk, the word that came to mind right away was that this guy seems extremely ARROGANT. To this day I am sticking with that term. It seems that in his mind, no matter what anyone says, does, claims, he will deny it to the end, no matter how silly he looks. It's like they have all this info/evidence laying out in front of him on a table and he will look at it and say "I don't know" or "It's not me" even though it clearly shows that it is.He said his marriage was good, so wouldn't he be a little concerned or upset with Stacy if she truly left him? It's scary how someone can do so much evil and yet not even see it. Oh well, he's not so high and mighty anymore, his world is crumbling down around him. It's all of us against him, he'll hopefully crack.

Very weird.

Okay, first let me say, EWWWW. I just watched the first half of DP's interview on Today. UNBELIEVABLE. This guy will not accept ANY blame what so ever for even one little thing. I can't believe he had the gall to go on this show. Matt showed a lot of patience here. You could tell that if he were not a professional, he would have ripped him apart. The one thing that got me, was when Drew said out loud that Stacy isn't missing, that she's where she wants to be. His facial expression when he said that was very odd. If I had to guess, it looked like he wasn't being sincere. I know we know he's most likely not, but it was the way he kind of squirmed in his seat and slightly looked down when he said it. Lastly, like someone here said, how did these women find him attractive?

What shocked me is he didn't have a lawyer with him he basically went on the show to try to get a Lawyer a Defense lawyer to try his case so I assume he expects to be charged with Stacy's disappearance. He said he is cooperatating with LE, but his attorneys said Don't talk DUH what is he doing on National TV if he isn't suppose to be talking???? He never blinks when he talk Cold & Calculating impression I am getting from this guy!!! MOO

It reminded me a bit of the old Scott Peterson interview with GMA's Diane Sawyer. Some of the things that came out of Scott's mouth, accompanied by the oddest facial expressions, were hard to even watch. I do find Drew to be a better liar and able to think quicker on his feet, but neither show any signs of remorse. The good news is that many things Scott said in his GMA interview later came back to bite him in the b-tt, so maybe that will be the case with Matt's interview with Drew. It's always a pleasure to see them publicly hang themselves which happens easily when they are so arrogant as to think they don't need an attorney with them!

Here's a very good article entitled "Why It Makes Sense to Suspect Drew Peterson"...

“If I tried to leave him, he said he’d kill me.”

Those were the words allegedly spoken by 23-year-old missing mother of two, Stacy Peterson, to a friend and neighbor about a threat her 53-year-old husband Drew Peterson made.

On Oct. 26, Stacy told Drew she wanted a divorce. Two days later she was gone. Her policeman husband suggests that she has left for personal reasons in the past, and that he suspects she has either run off on her own or run away with an unnamed man. No evidence of either scenario has yet been discovered.

<snip>

Consider the following:

Sgt. Peterson is 30 years his wife’s senior, having met and allegedly dated her when she was 17 and while he was still married to his then 40-year-old wife, Kathleen Savio. Stacy Peterson is Sgt. Peterson’s fourth wife and he has a total of eight children.
A history of deceit: Sgt. Peterson allegedly told Stacy he was single when he was still married to his third wife. Other wife-killers have told similar lies concerning their marital status, like Scott Peterson who told Amber Frey he was a widower.
Sgt. Peterson allegedly threatened and beat his third wife, Kathleen, who he married less than three months after his second divorce. Of the 18 individual reports of domestic abuse from their household, at least half were related to allegations of physical abuse by one or both parties to the marriage.
After his divorce from Kathleen, who once had a domestic protection order against him, Sgt. Peterson attempted to have his $2,000-per-month child support payment reduced, to no avail. Kathleen continued to live in the house in which she, Sgt. Peterson and their two children resided at the time of her untimely death. At this point, she was in legal action to receive part of Sgt. Peterson’s anticipated retirement pension.

I just read the following sentence in the article mentioned above, and find it so very sad:

She (Stacy) was, however, according to friends and relatives, depressed concerning the deaths of two of her sisters, one by SIDS and one in a fire.

Does this mean that somewhere there is a set of parents who are now grieving the suspected death of a THIRD daughter? How tragic and so much more than any family should have to endure.

Makes you wonder doesn't it and when he said about the Million dollar life insurance policy on wife #3 he said it was in a trust for her children HMMMM I WONDER???? He certainly has alot of toys for his salary doesn't he?? I know one thing Don't mess with their retirement pension that could have been WHY Kathleen's untimely death occured!

Oh, I bet you are so right about him having to do away with her once she wanted to touch his pension! Oddly, in one of the articles I read yesterday, they talked about how he was just a few weeks away from retirement (and that beloved pension) when he was put on suspension without pay. Wouldn't it be poetic justice for him to lose his pension here at the end due to all of this coming to light. OTOH, I suppose losing his pension would diminish the lives of his EIGHT children... at least 4 of which are pretty young, IIRC. I don't know anything about the other 4 who I'm assuming are older.

I know I probably don't have to tell all of you this but the last couple of posts really show that something is mentally wrong with Drew Peterson. I want to know what he thought he was gaining out of these relationships he was in?? Power, control, did it fill a void he had within himself?? It obviously wasn't for love, because if it were, none of these women would be in this situation. I mean, to tell a spouse that if you leave me I will kill you? Why, why would he feel the need to kill her if she left? Because he would be alone? Because it would ruin his reputation and humiliate him to the outside world? I think it all has to do with his internal need for control and unfortunately there are unsuspecting vulnerable women who fall into his trap. Gosh, I could go on and on about this guy or this type of guy because it's so selfish to be this type of person and it just makes no sense when he basically had so much to appreciate (many would love a nice house, children, wife, good job, etc. ) yet he's willing to toss it all away for no reason.
I also find it interesting that he has resigned from the Bolingbrook Police Force. Hmmm.

Wow he is resigning effective immediately Wonder why that move I will have to ask my SIL today Why he would do that maybe to keep his pension intact or he suspects he will be arrested and jumped the gun on them trying to keep his pension intact is all I can figure? HMMM more to this resignation then meets the eye??

JUST IN!!!! Update in Sgt Peterson Story
by Greta Van Susteren
Spoke to OTR Producer Steph Watts a few seconds ago….he got his hands on information about Sgt. Peterson’s resignation. Sgt. Peterson handed it in, the Chief of Police denied the request to resign because there are internal charges pending. The Chief of Police then sent a letter to the Mayor Claar and members of the Board of Fire and Police Commission - they overruled the Chief. As a result Sgt Peterson has officially resigned (his resignation accepted), he will get his full pension and the internal charges will not be further investigated (and we don’t know now - but we may be 10pm eastern for ON THE RECORD - what those internal charges are..whether they are significant charges or insignificant charges.)

More on Sgt Peterson Resignation
by Greta Van Susteren
We have just learned that the Chief wrote the Mayor and Commission saying he did not want to accept Sgt Peterson’s resignation because of the internal charges - charges that would result in his termination (thus denying him his pension.). The Chief wrote that he thought the public entitled to an open hearing on this. Note that we do not know the internal charges - but it is a red flag that the Chief thought the charges would result in termination. That suggests to me that the internal charges are significant ones - but I can’t be certain without knowing the charges. We will have much more at ten pm on ON THE RECORD.

Ill. officer says missing wife asked for divorce, but it was 'based on her menstrual cycle'

jg-tc.com - November 14, 2007

NEW YORK - An Illinois police officer who resigned after being named a suspect in the disappearance of his fourth wife said Wednesday she had asked him for a divorce _ but he thought it was due to hormones.

Drew Peterson told NBC's "Today" that his wife fell into a deep depression after her sister died of cancer, and had been taking medication. They often had fights after that, he said.

"I'm not trying to be funny, but Stacy would ask me for divorce after her sister died on a regular basis," Peterson said. "It was based on her menstrual cycle." — continued

Hmmmm... wonder which it is... sister dying of cancer, as he says, or two sisters dying... one from SIDS and one in a fire... as the article further up the page stated. I certainly hope there weren't 3 sisters (other than Stacy) that died, because that would mean this family has now probably lost 4 daughters.

I think that this is correct.

• 1982 Stacey's sister died in a house fire
• 1987 Stacey's sister died from SIDS
• 2006 Stacey's sister Tina Cales died of cancer

I guess I can also quit worrying about how hard the loss of 4 daughters is on their mother... her mother is missing and has been since 1998! This is one sad little family... one tragedy after another. I wonder, too, if losing her mother when she was so young might have contributed to Drew looking like a good catch... she probably felt lost after her mom disappeared.

I literally only saw the last 5 secs of the interview where he turns to the camera and says 'come home.' I can't bear to watch the entire inteview. Question: Did Matt Lauer happen to ask him how he can be so sure that Stacy is alive and with her lover if a. He doesn't know who the alleged lover is and b. If he doesn't have a clue about where she went.

I mean, how in the holy hell can he know she's safe if the circumstances surrounding her disappearance are suspicious? Does he have proof she was having an affair? If so, with whom?
She supposedly told him she was leaving. Did she also say that she would leave him with the kids and all of her personal effects thereby giving him complete confidence that there would be no need to worry when she left? Why he is SO CONFIDENT that her threatened departure is tied to her disappearance now? Why?

Has anyone else asked these questions?

'He was a knight in shining armor'

Growing up, Stacy Peterson was on the move.

But no matter where her family went, trouble followed.

There was an absent mother. Alcoholism. Domestic violence. Troubled finances. Two sisters who died young. A brother in prison. More than 20 addresses, and with them, new schools.....

She was 17 when she met Drew Peterson, a 47-year-old Bolingbrook cop who seemed to have everything missing from her family life: money, authority, stability and a nice house in the suburbs.

Husband: Not first time wife has taken off

November 1, 2007
By JOE HOSEY The Herald News
BOLINGBROOK -- Stacy Peterson might come home again after blowing off some steam. Or she might not. Her mother hasn't yet, her son-in-law says, and she left eight years ago.

"I believe she's either going to tell people where she is or she's going to go down deeper, like how her mom did," said Peterson's husband, police Sgt. Drew Peterson.

State police have executed a search warrant for the Bolingbrook home of police Sgt. Drew Peterson and his wife, Stacy Peterson. Drew Peterson says he last spoke to his wife by phone at 9 p.m. Sunday. She hasn't been seen since.

Drew Peterson, 53, said this isn't the first time his 23-year-old wife split on him. She had taken off on him before, he said, when their children or he got to be too much.

"She would take off for a few hours like this," Peterson said. "She would say she would vent."

If this is the case again, Stacy Peterson has been venting for a while. She hasn't been seen since Sunday morning. As of today, she is getting closer to going the way of her mother, who Peterson says vanished from Blue Island in 1999. The couple's marriage certificate lists the whereabouts of Stacy Peterson's mother, Christie Toutges, as unknown.
