Chester Stiles has a long arrest record in Las Vegas dating back eight years.

He is currently wanted by Metro for lewdness with a child under 14 years of age. That warrant was issued in April of 2006.

Metro also sent us this long list of other arrests. In April of 2003 Stiles was arrested for conspiracy to commit grand larceny auto. Three years earlier he was arrested for a series of crimes from resisting a public officer to domestic violence.

In June of 1999 Stiles was arrested on several charges including obstructing a police officer and assault with a deadly weapon and battery domestic violence.

PAHRUMP, Nev. -- Nye County officers have identified the young girl in a sex abuse tape.

In the recording, the man calls the girl "Madison," officers announced in a press conference. They do not know her exact location, and are still requesting the public's help locating her.

"Madison is a very rare name, actually," Nye County Sheriff Tony Dameo said. "As far investigative aspect, it became very popular after the movie 'Splash' -- its the character that Darryl Hannah played."

Officers also said that "Madison" has a distinguishing mark on her body, but would not clarify what it looks like or its location.

"Due to the nature of the investigation and the need for us to prioritize those leads, we're retaining its exact location at this time," said Detective David Boruchowitz, with the Nye County Sheriff's Office.

In the same conference, police said they are also looking for a person of interest in this case. Officers said Chester Arthur Stiles, 37, is wanted for questioning in regards to the investigation, but would not discuss his connection to the inquiry.

Stiles has been wanted by Metro police, officers said, since 2004 on suspicion of lewd acts with a minor.

District Attorney: Tuck Failed Polygraph

PAHRUMP, Nev. -- The Nye County District Attorney said the man who turned the sexual abuse tape in to authoritites failed a polygraph test Friday.

Darren Tuck turned the tape over to authorities last week. Tuck admitted to an officer Friday that he has had possession of the tape since May, but only recently turned it over to authorities. He is facing charges of possession of child pornography and promotion of sexual acts of a minor.

Authorities would not confirm which section of the polygraph he failed.

Nevada authorities are still looking for a man the previously had called a "person of interest" in the case, but are now calling a suspect.

Authorities said a warrant has been issued for the arrest of Chester Arthur Stiles in connection with the case.

At a Friday night press conference, Boruchowitz described Stiles' connection to the girl's family as a "second-tier friend."

Boruchowitz said the department had received "tips by the hundreds" after asking for the public's help in locating the girl and Stiles.

A young girl who was seen being sexually assaulted in a homemade videotape was found Friday and is safe with relatives and sheriff's officials, authorities said.

"She looks like a very happy 7-year-old girl," Nye County sheriff's Detective David Boruchowitz said at a news conference late Friday. She was 3 when the tape was made, he said.

Chester Arthur Stiles, who was previously being sought for questioning, is now considered a suspect but remains at large, Nye County Sheriff Tony DeMeo said.

Stiles has tenuous ties to the family through friends, Boruchowitz said.

The crime took place in Las Vegas, where the girl was found with her mother, DeMeo said. The girl's mother was cooperating with the investigation, he said.

"The mother was not aware of anything that went on with this young girl," he said.

Widespread media accounts of the case led someone to call the girl's mother, who contacted police, authorities said.

"Somebody contacted her and said, 'Hey your daughter's on TV,'" Boruchowitz said. "She recognized her daughter."

Police had released information they would not normally release in such crimes, such as a photograph of the girl, DeMeo said.

"We sat down ... and said, 'You know what? We have nothing else,'" he said.

Earlier in the day, authorities gave to the media a first name for the girl, whose haunting face could be seen in the video in which she was raped and sexually assaulted.

The Associated Press is no longer identifying or releasing photos of the girl because she is a suspected victim of sexual abuse. It did so earlier in the interest of the girl's safe recovery.

Stiles, 37, whose last known address was Las Vegas, is wanted on an unrelated state warrant on a charge of lewdness with a minor younger than 14 and a federal charge of being a fugitive, DeMeo said. .....

A big break in the Pahrump sexual assault mystery came Friday night when police revealed the young girl was found safe at home with her mother in Las Vegas.

But police say the search is on for the man they are now calling the primary suspect in this horrific case of child sexual abuse.

Chester Arthur Stiles, who was previously sought for questioning as a "person of interest" in the case, was characterized as a "several tier away" friend of the girl's family, the detective said. ....

EXCERPT: Channel 8 Eyewitness News has learned that it was the mother of one of the girl's playmates who recognized her.

Nye County Sheriff Tony DeMeo and detectives met the victim face to face in Las Vegas where she lives.

Sheriff DeMeo said, "The mother was not aware of anything that went on with this young girl."

Detective Dave Boruchowitz said both the girl and mother cried as they talked. He says the sexual assault happened in Las Vegas.

"In fact, the mother actually recognized the furniture, recognized the TV," Sheriff DeMeo continued.

Detective Boruchowitz says the man on the tape is Chester Stiles and that he was a family friend.

Detectives also pinpointed the tape was made in 2003 when the victim was just three years old. Boruchowitz says she does not show any signs of a girl who has been sexually abused.

Sheriff DeMeo stated, "Let me say this to Mr. Stiles. Chester Arthur Styles. Turn yourself in to your local law enforcement agency."

The Nye County sheriff wants to find Stiles soon to prevent another sexual assault like the one on the tape.

The Nye County district attorney said that an anonymous source called Stiles a survivalist. That he was always armed and at one point said he would not be taken alive. He also called Stiles paranoid. But the relationship between Stiles and this source is not exactly clear.

Sex tape focus shifts back to Las Vegas

RENO, NV (CBS/AP) -- The search for the suspect in the videotaped sexual assault of a little girl was shifted Saturday from a rural county to Las Vegas, where the man was last known to live and where it's believed the chilling tape was made.

Chester "Chet" Arthur Stiles was referred to Friday as a suspect as the FBI and Nye County investigators concluded that he was the man seen on the tape molesting a 3-year-old girl.

The girl, who is now 7, was found safe in Las Vegas with her mother, who was unaware of the assault, Nye County sheriff's Detective David Boruchowitz said Friday in Pahrump.

Stiles, 34, has lived in Pahrump, 50 miles west of Las Vegas, but his most recent address was in Las Vegas and that is where he was last seen, two weeks ago, Boruchowitz said at a news conference Friday night.

Las Vegas Metro Police gave little information about the investigation Saturday.

"We have assumed the lead on the sexual assault case. We are conducting an ongoing investigation but have no further details," Bill Cassell, the department's public information officer, said tersely. .....

Nye sheriff has no regrets about agonizing decision

PAHRUMP -- Though Nye County Sheriff Tony DeMeo tried to shackle his emotions early Saturday, they escaped.

"You don't know how we agonized over whether to release pictures to the media of that little girl," the weary 56-year-old lawman said, trying unsuccessfully to choke back tears. "People may think cops are callous and cavalier, but we're not. We believed there was a child in need of rescue.

"People may say we gambled, but I'm sure we did the right thing," DeMeo said, sipping on the largest coffee Starbucks has to offer.

Fourteen hours earlier, he had conducted a news conference to announce that a young girl who was seen being sexually assaulted in a homemade video had been found safe Friday afternoon. She was in Las Vegas with her mother.

Authorities first received the tape, described by a detective on the case as "horrifying," three weeks ago.

With food his wife Linda had brought him growing cold on his desk, DeMeo sat at a table in his office and said he is troubled by e-mails and phone calls from people questioning his judgment, people arguing that he probably "revictimized the victim."

"I'll take the heat for it," he said, closing his eyes as he ran his right hand through his thick shock of white hair. "I can sleep at night. We were in uncharted territory. We had no other choice."

There was no other way, DeMeo said, that investigators would have learned of the girl's identity from a tipster Friday if the pictures hadn't been released. He said his investigators were hamstrung by not knowing any of the subjects in the video. They didn't even know what year it had been recorded or where the crime took place.

At first, his deputies only showed photos taken from the video to administrators and teachers at schools and recreation and day care centers in Pahrump, but that effort turned up no leads, DeMeo said. .....

FUGITIVES SOUGHT: Child's safety was aim of lawmen

Two people wanted in connection with the half-hour videotape of a 3-year-old girl being sexually assaulted were still at large Saturday night.

Authorities believe Chester "Chet" Stiles, who has been named by police as the man seen molesting the child on the tape, and Darrin Tuck, the 26-year-old Pahrump man who turned the video over to authorities, are on the run.

Stiles' last known address was in Las Vegas, and he was reported to have been in the valley as recently as two weeks ago, Nye County sheriff's Detective David Boruchowitz said.

About 12:25 p.m. Saturday, someone reported seeing a man who looked like Stiles near Fremont and Bruce streets, and Las Vegas police rushed to the area but never found the man.

Las Vegas police took over the case Friday after investigators determined the taped sexual assault took place in Las Vegas. The video was not taken at the girl's home, police said.

The girl, who is now 7, was found safe at her mother's Las Vegas home Friday afternoon. Police said they saw no reason to remove the girl from her home.

Las Vegas police have been working the case nonstop since Friday evening, said officer Ramon Denby, a department spokesman. They contacted "America's Most Wanted" and the case was scheduled to air on Saturday night's show, he said.

Stiles, 37, was described to Nye County District Attorney David Beckett as a survivalist and had reportedly told at least one person he would never be taken alive.

Beckett became confident that Stiles was the man on the tape when a Las Vegas attorney called him saying a client of his was certain Stiles was the man on the video. .....

Excerpt: Authorities have said Tuck failed a lie detector test. "He's lied all the way through this case," Boruchowitz said.

Tuck spent two days in jail after being arrested the week of Sept. 20 on charges of possession and dissemination of child pornography, both felonies. He was released without bail pending a Nov. 26 hearing in Pahrump Justice Court.

DeMeo and Boruchowitz speculated Saturday that the real reason Tuck came forward with the tape was to distract them from an investigation of a burglary ring that involved many of his associates.

"He didn't have a crisis of conscience," Boruchowitz said. "If his conscience or morality was involved, he would have come forward with the tape four or five months ago."

Representatives from the Parol Board went looking for Darren Tuck, 26, at his residence in Pahrump late Friday evening and could not find him, police said. Excerpt: Tuck still claims his innocence in this situation, saying he is just an innocent victim who found the tape in the desert and turned it over to authorities. He admits that he had possession of the tape since May.

"I've seen it one time," Tuck said. "And it made me sick to my stomach. So, why would I want to watch it again? "Mr. Stiles, I know you're out there," he said. "You were hurting the two little girls on the tape, but its also hurting me. You know what's right and I think you should do what you need to do."

Tuck was on a probation violation for not paying child support. He is currently facing possession of child pornography and promotion of sexual acts of a minor.

PAHRUMP, Nevada — The man who turned in a tape showing the sexual assault of a 3-year-old was taken into custody on Sunday after violating probation and failing a polygraph test, police said.

Police had been looking for Darren Tuck, 26, after he disappeared from his home on Friday, the same day the child shown in the tape was found safe in Las Vegas and a family acquaintance named a suspect, fox5vegas.com reported.

Tuck surrendered on Sunday and was expected to be charged on Monday with possession of child pornography and possibly promoting child pornography, Nye County Sheriff Tony DeMeo said.

EL CAJON, Calif. -- El Cajon is one of numerous communities where authorities are looking for a man suspected in the videotaped rape a 3-year-old girl, an FBI agent said Sunday.

Registered sex offender Chester "Chet" Arthur Stiles, 34, who is reportedly a survivalist, has been in El Cajon before, but the town is only one of about 30 places where authorities are looking for him, said spokeswoman April Langwell of the San Diego FBI office.

Authorities hope to find Chester "Chet" Arthur Stiles, 34, soon.

"I believe that Chester Arthur Stiles has some additional information that he can provide, some light on maybe other activity that has taken place, and maybe in this jurisdiction, Clark County, and other states as well," Nye County, Nevada, Sheriff Tony DeMeo said on CBS News' The Early Show Monday. "I believe that he's a link a very dark side of our society, so I want him, I want him alive."

Stiles has a long criminal record, including charges for assault and battery, resisting arrest, contempt of court, and grand larceny, reports CBS News Early Show national correspondent Jeff Glor. Stiles was once an animal trainer for the famous team of Siegfried and Roy. He's told friends he was in the military, and police believe he's armed and dangerous. .....

There are new developments in the case of the disturbing sex tape involving a three year old girl. Federal agents say they are searching places that Chester Stiles may have visited before, including El Cajon, California, a small community in San Diego County.

News 3's Hetty Chang interviewed a man who used to call Stiles his step-dad. That man is Todd Allen and he says the tape that shows the little girl being sexually abused as made in his old apartment.

Allen also claims he knows about a previous incident with another child, and it may have happened the same way.

"I know of one other time that he (Stiles) was involved with something like that, and it was actually a friend of my mother's child," said Allen. "At that point in time, I didn't know whether to believe my mother or what was happening, but according to my mother it was a false report made that he was left alone with the child."

Allen says he never liked Stiles, but refrained from acting on his feelings out of respect for his mother. He says Stiles and his mother have been dating for the past 10 years.

"I took to what she said to me that it was false and it never happened and that he was never left alone with the kids. However at the time they were together over at the house watching the children and according to my mother, they took a nap, and that's when it happened to another child. As far as it goes with this little girl, I believe something similar may have happened," said Allen. .....

LAS VEGAS, Nevada (CNN) -- An intense manhunt was under way Monday for Chester Stiles, a 37-year old man whom police say is a suspect in the videotaped rape of a 3-year-old girl four years ago.

Also Monday, Stiles' former girlfriend told CNN she believes she put him in contact with the girl.

Tina Allen said she is "disgusted" and "mortified" at her role in bringing them together. .....

Excerpt: Stiles' former girlfriend said she is stunned by the allegations.

Allen said she and Stiles had been in an on-again, off-again relationship for 10 years and that he was good with her children.

"He said he'd been in the Navy and, you know, I was looking for a strong guy to represent to my sons what I thought they needed to be," Allen said.

Allen took Stiles to a crowded apartment where her son and daughter lived. Also living in the apartment were a family friend and her 3-year-old daughter, who allegedly was victimized by Stiles.

"I'm disgusted. I'm ashamed, embarrassed, mortified," Allen said. "I regret every, every step I ever took; I feel bad for the baby."

Todd Allen, Tina Allen's son, told CNN he recognized his old apartment from scenes in the video. He said his mother and Stiles spent time together there.

Todd Allen said nobody realized the child may have been abused.

"She's what you'd expect a little girl in elementary school to be like," he said.

He said he never witnessed Stiles physically assault anyone.

"But I have seen him verbally and mentally assault many people," Todd Allen told CNN.

Looking back, Tina Allen said there were some warning signs. She said Stiles hit her once but she didn't file a police report.

She said she blames herself. "How could I not know? Why couldn't I have recognized something? Why are all these people going through this torture now because of me?" Allen asked.

Allen ended her relationship with Stiles a few months ago. She said she believes it will be difficult for police to find him.

"He will hide out in mountains if that's what it takes, he will hide out in a crowd, he'll find somebody who hasn't heard anything and stay there," she said. "He has skills. He knows how to hunt, I mean hunt with a gun, a knife, a bow."

Allen said Stiles stopped by her house last week for a friendly visit before his name was linked to the videotape. She said his appearance had changed. She said his hair was longer and he had put on weight.

Sex tape suspect described as dangerous

LAS VEGAS -- The fugitive accused of raping a little girl on videotape was portrayed Monday as a dangerous, knife-wielding survivalist who once vowed never to be taken alive and formerly worked as an animal trainer with Las Vegas illusionists Siegfried & Roy. .....

Excerpt: "He's a survivalist type who isn't bothered by living without electricity or water, and always carries a fighting-type knife," said Nye County District Attorney Bob Beckett.

Investigators were interviewing people who know Stiles and pursuing hundreds of "very fruitful" leads Monday from across the country, said police Capt. Vincent Cannito, head of the department's youth and family crimes unit.

"He does have a very violent past," Cannito said, "and he has a history of narcotics usage, so we do consider him to be a very dangerous individual."

Excerpt: Beckett said Stiles has claimed to be a former Navy SEAL and a black belt in karate, and claimed to own several guns, including a rifle, shotgun and pistol. But the district attorney said he could not confirm any of that.

Beckett said he got the information from a Las Vegas lawyer representing a person who knows and fears Stiles. Beckett would not reveal their names.

However, a spokesman for magicians Siegfried Fischbacher and Roy Horn said Stiles worked as part of an animal training team for Siegfried & Roy for a few months in 2002 at the Mirage hotel-casino in Las Vegas.

"He helped taking care of the animals, and he was let go when he didn't show up to work one day," spokesman Dave Kirvin said, adding that Stiles left little impression on the dozens of other animal trainers.

As for whether he served in the Navy, records suggest he lived in 1989 at a Naval Diving and Salvage Training Center in Panama City, Fla. But the Navy and a clerk at a military locator office in St. Louis could not immediately confirm he was in the military.

She has viewed portions of the videotape and says there is no doubt that the man sexually abusing the 3-year-old girl is Stiles.

Metro is now handing the case because the videotape detailing the abuse, although found in Nye County, was allegedly made in Las Vegas.

Allen who dated Stiles over a 10-year period says she now lives in fear and will have to move because Stiles, who is still at large, knows where she lives.

Nye County Sheriff Takes Flack Over Handling of Case

The crime was first uncovered in Pahrump, where investigators agonized over whether to go public with the little girl's picture. Now, the Nye County sheriff's department is the taking the brunt of critics in the national media, who say they bungled the investigation.

Nye County Sheriff Anthony DeMeo spoke only to Eyewitness News. Sheriff DeMeo was very open about the decisions to show the young girl's face and tell the world her name. He calls it an extreme and desperate step, but one that appears to have broken this case wide open.

Nye county officers were given the tape on Sept. 8. That's more than a week before they told the public about the case.

In that time, DeMeo tells us his detectives scoured online databases, CPS records and birth records to try to find her. Suspect Chester Stiles mentions the girl by name on the tape and that's all investigators had to go on. .....

Police are looking for a huge break that could lead to 37-year-old Chester Arthur Stiles. He's the man police say is on videotape sexually assaulting a three-year-old girl. Now, Tina Allen, a Las Vegas women who dated Stiles for 10 years, is speaking out.

News 3's Jesse Corona says although Tina claims she didn't witness any signs of abuse, there was an allegation years ago that Stiles had sexually abused another girl in a separate incident.

"He seemed like a normal everyday guy. Somebody you could hope to meet," Tina Allen said.

That "normal" guy Tina Allen is talking about, is local public enemy number one, suspected child predator Chester Stiles. "He did ask me to marry him twice and both times I refused."

Allen dated Stiles in what she calls an "off-again, on again" relationship for the last 10 years. She says Stiles claimed he was a former Navy Seal who was proud of his ability to elude police.

"He can calculate, probably down to the minute, how long it takes police to get to a certain part of town. If they are busy with something somewhere else and how much time he has to run... and he can run," Allen warns.

On Saturday, Tina's son Todd talked to News 3, saying he recognized his old apartment in the pictures of that abuse tape. At one time, Todd Allen was living with that little girl's mother. He says his mother Tina would bring Stiles over and that's how Stiles became acquainted with the child. .....

Darren Tuck's attorneys feel their client has received a raw deal from law enforcement in Pahrump. They say Tuck can never get a fair trial there because he's been portrayed as someone who had something to do with the people who made the tape, instead of as the guy who turned it in.

Tuck has also been described as a liar about how he acquired the tape in the first place. Monday, we found the spot where he says it happened.

Defense attorneys Harry Kuehn and Tom Gibson weren't sure what they would find when they went looking for the spot where their client says he found the infamous child porn tape.

LAS VEGAS — The mother of a girl who was videotaped being raped years ago had no idea of the abuse before last week, when a friend saw the child's face on the news and called her, the woman's attorney said Tuesday.

Attorney Jerry Donohue called the woman "a typical American single mother" who worked six days a week and was "trying to be 'supermom.'" He said the abuse appeared to have taken place about four years ago while the child was left in a baby-sitter's care.

The girl, now 7, appeared to be a "happy, perfectly healthy little girl" during a recent afternoon with medical professionals, Donohue said during a brief statement outside his Las Vegas office. Authorities have received hundreds of tips from across the country on the whereabouts of Chester "Chet" Arthur Stiles, but the former Siegfried & Roy animal trainer managed to evade capture for another day Monday.

But a portrait of the man who police allege videotaped himself raping a 3-year-old Las Vegas girl continues to evolve.

A Las Vegas woman who said she is Stiles' former girlfriend told ABC's "Good Morning America" on Monday that he is a master of deception who fooled her for at least a decade.

"He presented himself wholly as the family guy, the kind of guy a single mom was looking for to help raise her own children," Tina Allen said on the national broadcast. .....

Excerpt: But at her Las Vegas home, Allen's mother, 65-year-old Nola Krause, said Monday she always had a bad feeling about Stiles. Krause said she made it clear to Stiles that she was not, going to be civil toward him, so Stiles stayed away from the family's house when she was there.

Girl raped while in the care of baby sitter, attorney says

LAS VEGAS, Nevada (CNN) -- A young girl shown on video being sexually assaulted was raped while in the care of a baby sitter her mother hired, the mother's attorney said Tuesday.

The mother did not know her daughter had ever been victimized and was apparently oblivious to efforts to find her until last Friday, Jerry T. Donohue said.

"A family friend called her and said, 'My God, you need to turn on the TV. I believe that is your daughter,'" he said.

Donohue said the mother recognized the suspect, Chester Arthur Stiles, 37, a former animal trainer.

The abuse most likely occurred while the mother - a single woman working six days a week - was at work, Donohue said.

The attorney said he knows who the baby sitter is, but would not release that information because of the ongoing investigation.

Earlier, officials had said the girl, who is now 7, was 3-years-old at the time the video was made. But Donohue said Tuesday, "To my understanding, the abuse occurred before she was 3 years old." .....

Search For Stiles Led Police to Salvation Army

Police followed up on a tip that Chester Stiles could be at the Las Vegas Salvation Army. They showed his picture but did not find him.

Earlier Tuesday, the mother of the girl on the tape released a statement through her attorney.

The girl wasn't even three years old when police say Stiles assaulted her.

Jerry Donahue says his client was a single mother, who worked two jobs and relied on a babysitter when the sexual abuse happened.

The girl and mother were living with Tina Allen at the time, and Allen was dating Stiles. .....

Excerpt: Her attorney revealed at the time of the sexual assault in 2003 the girl was not even three years old. Donohue also answered the question, which has flooded Channel 8 e-mail, how could Stiles have access to the girl long enough to videotape a sexual assault?

In 2003, the victim and her mother lived with Tina Allen and her two children. Allen was dating Stiles at that time.

The mother of the girl whose sexual assault, captured on videotape, has sparked a nationwide manhunt for the suspected perpetrator said through her attorney Tuesday that she is cooperating with the investigation and that her daughter is doing well.

"My daughter is safe and healthy," the mother said in a statement read by her Las Vegas attorney, Jerry Donohue.

The victim, who is now 7, has never shown signs of physical abuse and doesn't remember the incident, he said.

Donohue held a news conference in front of his downtown office to deliver the mother's first public remarks since Friday, when authorities say she learned of the assault. The mother, who Donohue didn't identify, didn't attend the media event.

Donohue said the mother hired him "to protect her interests."

His client is a hardworking single mom who was holding down two jobs and working six days a week when the incident occurred, the attorney said. Her daughter was in the care of a baby sitter when the assault took place, Donohue said. He didn't identify the baby sitter.

"She was trying to make ends meet on her own and thought she was leaving her daughter in the care of a responsible adult," he said.

The mother had no direct contact with the suspect, Chester "Chet" Arthur Stiles, Donohue said.

Although the mother identified Stiles from images of the videotaped assault, she doesn't know him personally, Donohue said. Stiles is likely a "friend of a friend" of the mother, Donohue said, but didn't elaborate. .....

Excerpt: Donohue said the mother of the victim learned about the assault on Friday, when a friend called and told her that her daughter's picture was on television. When the mother turned on her TV, she recognized the man on the videotape as Stiles and contacted Nye County authorities, Donohue said.

When asked how the mother could have avoided seeing the intense media coverage of the case, Donohue said she works long hours and didn't watch television news.

The mother hadn't watched the videotape of the assault, he said.

"There are some things maybe you don't want to know. Can you imagine having a little girl and learning that something occurred many years before and you can't do anything about it to protect her?" he asked.

It took just one two-minute phone call for me to determine that fugitive accused child molester Chester Stiles was never a Navy SEAL. So why did so many news organizations give the impression that he was?

The answer, in my opinion, is simple: It's because some people are only too happy to portray American military men not as honorable warriors but as losers and thugs and criminals.

As you may know, Stiles is the creep who's suspected of videotaping his rape of a three-year-old Las Vegas girl. The appalling crime prompted nationwide news coverage and a nationwide manhunt for the 37-year-old career criminal.

Almost all of the news reports described Stiles as a "survivalist" who "claimed to be a former Navy SEAL" – although at least one TV station said that he was in fact a former SEAL.

But Stiles was never a member of the Navy's elite, highly-trained SEAL (Sea-Air-Land) special operations force. Not even close. According to Mike McLellan, a spokesman for the Navy Personnel Command, Stiles joined the Navy in 1988, was trained as an "engineman" and was discharged as an E-1 – the lowest pay grade in the military – in 1989. McLellan couldn't release the nature of Stiles' discharge, but it's likely that it was under less-than-honorable conditions.

In other words, not only was this guy not a Navy SEAL; he's not even a bona fide veteran.

"We wish more news organizations would have checked on this," McLellan told me when I called. Unfortunately, once this erroneous information gets out there in the news and on the Internet, it's almost impossible to correct it.

Well, some people may not think this matters all that much. So what if people are left with the impression that this low-life was or even may have been a Navy SEAL? .....

From television to newspapers to MySpace, the search for accused child molester Chester Arthur Stiles has spread across the nation. But what if Stiles has remained close to home?

News 3's Jesse Corona followed a lead from Stiles' former girlfriend that Stiles chose to be homeless at one point in his life. The results of that lead might surprise you.

"There was a time he spent a year homeless on the streets and that's the way he wanted it," Stiles' former girlfriend Tina Allen said. Allen describes Stiles as a survivalist-type who enjoyed being a drifter. She says at one time he lived on the streets, even though he didn't have to.

So we printed off a copy of Stiles' mug shot and took it the large homeless camps close to our station. "I have seen him but I haven't seen him lately," one homeless person told News 3. "I've seen him. He'd be hanging out at Salvation Army. Right up Owens Street," said another.

Next stop: Salvation Army. Stiles was spotted hanging out there about a week ago. "He sticks to himself," a man staying there told us. "He goes in, lays down for a couple of minutes and then comes right back out." .....

In an exclusive jailhouse interview with Eyewitness News, Tuck says he doesn't deserve to be in jail for doing the right thing by turning the tape into police. Tuck's attorneys say law enforcement has gone overboard to paint an unfair picture of their client.

Tuck says he has no connection to the people or events on the videotape, but he is facing serious charges. The overwhelming impression the I-Team got from Darrin Tuck is that he's scared and very confused about how he ended up behind bars.

Tuck says all he did was find the tape and turn it in. He didn't make it, doesn't know who did, and is worried that he's been lumped together with a fugitive whose likeness is seen very clearly on the tape in question.

Darrin Tuck said, "I'm a firm believer that everything happens for a reason, you know. I stumbled across that tape for a reason. I don't know that reason yet. A part of me wished I never would have because look where it's got me now, you know. But the little girl is safe, and that's a plus."

There hasn't been many "plusses" in Darrin Tuck's life lately. He's in jail on parole violations and might soon face child porn charges. .....

When AMW sat down with Tina Allen, Chester 'Chet' Stiles' ex-girlfriend, she helped to paint a fuller picture of one of the most wanted men in the country. Tina spoke of Chester Stiles' exploration of his sexuality with S&M and bondage and that he frequented Las Vegas sex parties. Tina described Stiles as more of a voyeur than a participant, but claimed that Chet had been seeing a dominatrix in Pahrump, Nev. She also believes that he spent time with a woman named "Susan" in San Diego, Calif. and he has ties to Arizona.

Tina also spoke of Stiles as a Lothario of sorts; a great lover who went from woman to woman. She also says that Stiles was living with lots of women but stayed with her family on and off for the last ten years. She claims he would sometimes disappear for months and then show up without warning. Tina explains that he would even break into their home, sometimes by kicking the door down.

Tina Allen told AMW that Stiles told her that he was molested as a child. She also claims Stiles is estranged from his 16-year-old son. According to Tina, Stiles made money brokering marijuana for major rock bands passing through Nevada through a friend who is a local production coordinator.

Tina Allen told AMW the last time she saw Chester Stiles, it was the beginning of September of 2007. She says that his appearance had changed and he no longer looks as he does in his mug shot. Tina claims Stiles' hair is now much longer, he's gained weight, and he no longer wears a mustache. She also reports that he may be travelling with a pregnant Bullmastiff named 'Serenity'. ......

The hunt for suspected child molester Chester Arthur Stiles has gone nationwide. But News 3 posed the question: What if Stiles is hiding out closer to home?

News 3's Jesse Corona showed Stiles' picture to homeless camps Wednesday and talked to people who claim they've seen him recently.

The general consensus was that Chester Stiles spent a lot of time at the Salvation Army shelter about a week ago. There was even a sighting Wednesday afternoon that had Metro officers asking questions. A Salvation Army security guard called Metro about a half hour after we spoke to him Wednesday, claiming that Chester Stiles was trying to check into the shelter.

A group of men chased that man but lost him. Metro says they're not sure if it was a valid sighting, but is following up on all leads.

So if Stiles is still in town, where is hiding? We came up with one possiblity. "If you have lived on the streets, there's a really good chance you would know about these storm drains," says author Matt O'Brien. O'Brien wrote the book, "Beneath the Neon," a novel about the hundreds of people living in the storm drains beneath Las Vegas.

"You just have some madmen roaming in the depts of these drains sometimes," O'Brien said. Matt O'Brien describes the tunnels beneath Las Vegas as a dark and dangerous place; place that most people don't choose to go.

Jesse Corona: And police don't often go into these tunnels?

Matt O'Brien: No, these tunnels are not patroled on a regular basis by anyone. .....

Many may wonder how a girl who was raped and filmed for a child pornography tape could ever be considered a "happy, and perfectly healthy little girl" just a few years after the assault occurred.

But according to the Nevada mother whose daughter was discovered last week to have been featured on a sex abuse tape when she was only 2 years old, the child is not reeling from the traumatic events. In fast, she is actually doing quite well.

In a press conference Wednesday, Jerry Donohoe, the family's attorney who read the mother's statement, said that he did not believe the girl has any idea what happened to her.

"I believe she had no memory of the event," said Donohoe, who also said that the girl had been reviewed by psychologists since the tape was discovered.

While we only have the statements of the mother and lawyer to gauge the condition of the child, the case raises questions about how young children remember traumatic events and whether it is possible that this girl in question may not remember -- also known as suffering "traumatic amnesia" -- the very events that put her in headlines nationwide. .....

The search for accused child rapist Chester Arthur Stiles is not slowing down. From billboards around the Valley to MySpace postings, the word is getting out about the man accused of the brutal sexual assault of a three-year-old girl.

Police are also taking to the streets, posting Stiles' picture in homeless camps and shelters since his ex-girlfriend says he use to live on the streets. If you spot Stiles, police say call 311 or Crime Stoppers at 385-5555.

There have been a lot of questions regarding the family of the little girl Chester Stiles is accused of molesting. Questions like, how did the mother not know the abuse was going on? Was there not some sort of sign the abuse was taking place?

News 3's Jesse Corona talked to a child psychologist and says the answers to those questions might not be what you expect.

Jesse Corona: How did she not know her daughter was being violated?

Jerry Donohue: To answer that question would be speculation. I don't think I can answer that question

Donohue, the attorney for the mother of the little girl victimized on a videotape, came under fire last Tuesday when he was asked the very question a lot of us were wondering: How could the mother not have known what was going on?

"The problem with sexual abuse with children is a lot of times there is no physical evidence," psychologist Dr. Lisa Shaffer explains. Dr. Shaffer is a psychologist who works with children who are the victims of sexual abuse. She says it's harder to detect sexual abuse than you might think.

"There could be signs. Sometimes when the abuse is still going on you don't necessarily see signs. And sometimes the signs seem kind of innocuous," Dr. Shaffer said. .....

Sources close to the investigation say police have Chester Stiles' thumb print on evidence collected in this case. That's in addition to his ex-girlfriend and the victim's mother identifying him on the videotape.

Officially, Metro police won't say anything about the investigation. Stiles' face is on billboards in Las Vegas. He's been plastered on the national news and his information is online.

The reward has increased for the man wanted in connection with the videotaped sexual assault of girl under three-years-old.

The amount offered is now $20,000 for information that leads to the arrest of Chester Stiles.

Dozens of leads on Stiles' whereabouts have come in to Metro's Fugitive Detail unit. The team is still looking for Stiles and has made him a top priority. Eyewitness News spoke with the sergeant in charge of the case and got an inside look at how they plan to catch him.

The fugitive unit has worked leads all along the West Coast and continues to follow leads in Las Vegas. They say the reason Stiles hasn't been caught has nothing to do with how smart he is it all has to do with luck.

And they say his luck is about to run out.

They've tried and failed, fugitive after fugitive hoping to blend in with the crowd on the Strip or even the homeless community in downtown Las Vegas.

Sergeant Dan Flaherty, with Metro Fugitive Detail, explained, "We have a lot of small hotel-motels that they think they can be incognito and stay at these places. We have a very proactive agency and that doesn't seem to work out for them."

Sgt. Flaherty's face can't be shown because he works undercover, which is a big part of the job for the fugitive detail unit. .....

Henderson Police Officer Mike Dye said he pulled over the white Buick Century Stiles was driving, because it did not have a license plate.

Dye said he became suspicious after the driver gave him an expired California driver license with a photo that did not match his appearance.

Dye and another officer, Mike Gower, continued to question Stiles until he admitted his identity.

"He finally told us, 'Hey, I'm Chester Stiles. I'm the guy you're looking for,'" according to Dye. "At that time, he said, 'I'm sick of running.'" .....

Henderson police say they captured the fugitive during a routine traffic stop at Green Valley Parkway and Sunset, at about 7 p.m. The driver of the car pulled into a parking lot and handed Officer Dye a California driver's license. The picture on the license looked nothing like the driver of the car.

Stiles, 37, had been the subject of a national manhunt since Sept. 28 when he was named as the man seen abusing a girl, about 3 years old, on a videotape that surfaced in Pahrump.

A routine traffic stop in the south part of the valley ended his time as a fugitive.

About 7 p.m., Henderson police officer Mike Dye had spotted a white Buick Century with no license plates on Green Valley Parkway at Sunset Road. Dye pulled the car over into the parking lot of a Subway restaurant on Green Valley. The driver handed Dye a California driver's license, but the picture on the license looked nothing like the man behind the steering wheel, Henderson police said.

The mother of one of the Las Vegas girls Chester Stiles is alleged to have molested was disappointed that he was arrested Monday night.

She had hoped that when police caught up with him, the encounter would end with Stiles' death, her lawyer, Jerry Donohue, said Tuesday.

Given the chance, she would kill Stiles herself, Donohue said of the mother of a girl who was filmed being sexually abused in 2003 when she was not yet 3 years old.

"She's angry enough that, if we had the death penalty for this kind of offense, she'd volunteer to pull the switch or pull the trigger," Donohue said.

Donohue's client, who is soon to give birth to another daughter, has refused reporters' requests for interviews. But Tina Allen, an ex-girlfriend of Stiles, has spoken repeatedly of the revulsion and guilt that she now feels. She was the one who introduced him to the families of the two girls he is charged with abusing.

Allen said Tuesday that authorities probably should get a restraining order against her because she, too, wants to hurt Stiles. »

The girl's mother chose not to watch the video, but told police that she recognized striped sheets, her daughter's favorite leopard-print dress at the time and the knob-less wooden armoire in an apartment they moved from before the girl's third birthday in September 2003.

Stiles was arrested last year after a nationwide search. Police say Stiles is the man on a videotape seen raping a two-year-old girl.

Trial delayed for Nevada man in little girl video sex case

LAS VEGAS – Trial has been postponed to Sept. 8 for a man facing multiple life terms in prison on charges he raped two little girls, including one on a videotape found in the Nevada desert.

Clark County District Court Judge Jennifer Togliatti granted more time Wednesday for 37-year-old Chester Arthur Stiles' court-appointed lawyers to prepare his defense. Trial had been set to begin next week.

Stiles is accused of sexually assaulting a 2-year-old girl in September 2003, and another girl, then 6, in December 2003.

Stiles has pleaded not guilty to 22 felony charges including lewdness with a child under 14, sexual assault with a child under 14 and attempted sexual assault with a child under 14.

He remains held without bail in protective isolation at the Clark County jail.

Stiles was arrested in October after a nationwide manhunt spurred by the discovery of the tape in Pahrump, a Nye county town 60 miles west of Las Vegas. The girl was found safe with her mother in Las Vegas.

Stiles admits pedophilia in letters

In intimate letters written to girlfriends, accused child molester Chester Stiles admits he's a pedophile who sexually assaulted young girls.

He also expresses deep remorse.

Stiles, who described himself as a monster in the letters recovered by law enforcement, told the women that he was sexually abused as a child and is attracted to young girls because of their "purity of virtue."

What's holding up the trial of Chester Stiles?

There is still no trial date for accused child molester Chester Stiles more than a year after he was arrested. He was originally scheduled to go to trial back in September, but the trial has been delayed several times.

On Wednesday, another pre-trial hearing took place during which time the judge said she's getting fed up with the delays.

"This is a constant moving target and I'm tired of it," Judge Jennifer Togliatti told the courtroom.
