Dedication to our Heroes
There stand our heroes hand in hand
with every stride they protect our land
When all of a sudden a terrible scare
The World Trade Center had been hit by air
With hearts that were heavy and burden with pain
They entered the building again and again
Hoping only to find so many alive
They struggled and groped with no thought of tire
As they continued to fight the battle of fires
What went thru their minds when their lives were at risk
We will never know for their thought have gone with them
Along with undying love and dedication to us
The battle was lost and amongst all the rubble
They left many families and friends severely troubled
Our thoughts and prayers go with them and hope that they find
A place made in heaven that is deserving of their kind
For the heroes we lost were many in number
and their families and friends will always remember
So Lord keep them in your Book of Angels
And let them know our hearts will ever mend
for those of them who have gone before us
THERE WILL NEVER BE AN END........
Their Message To Us 6 Years Later
To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say.
But first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; Here is just eternal love.
Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I am with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through.
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you.
It's good to have you back again, you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, They'll be here later on.
I need you here badly, you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man."
God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.
When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years.
Because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry: it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.
I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
If I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.
There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
But together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too;
That as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.
If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain;
Then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life was worthwhile.
Knowing as I passed along the way I made somebody smile.
So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low;
Just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.
And when it's time for you to go....from that body to be free.
Remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.:rose:

What an absolutely beautiful post. I sit here with tears streaming down my face, as I picture my nephew over in Iraq at this very moment - and the memories of 9/11 still running clearly in my head.
I applaud you for you post, and thank you from the bottom of my heart for posting it. :rose:

Thanks for starting this thread grasshopper and the posts are beautiful.
I'd also like to say to Zoey - that I hope and pray your nephew remains safe in Iraq ..... :rose:
I have kept this all of these years -- but it originally circulated via email shortly after 9/11 and then the author came forward about three months later and I believe there has now been a song recorded. But this is one of my favorites and I post it every year: I am also a New Yorker and was there that day and lost very good friends. :rose:
You say you will never forget where you were when you heard the news on September 11, 2001. Neither will I.
I was on the 110th floor in a smoke filled room with a man who called his wife to say "Goodbye." I held his fingers steady as he dialed. I gave him the peace to say, "Honey, I am not going to make it, but it is OK ... I am ready to go." I was with his wife when he called as she fed breakfast to their children. I held her up as she tried to understand his words and as she realized he wasn't coming home that night.
I was in the stairwell of the 23rd floor when a woman cried out to Me for help. "I have been knocking on the door of your heart for 50 years!" I said. "Of course I will show you the way home - only believe on Me now."
I was at the base of the building with the Priest ministering to the injured and devastated souls. I took him home to tend to his Flock in Heaven. He heard my voice and answered.
I was with the Firefighters, the Police Officers, the Emergency Workers. I was there, watching each brave step they took.
I was on all four of those planes, in every seat, with every prayer. I was with the crew as they were overtaken. I was in the very hearts of the believers there, comforting and assuring them that their faith has saved them.
I was in Texas, Kansas, London. I was standing next to you when you heard the terrible news. Did you sense Me?
I want you to know that I saw every face. I knew every name - though not all know Me. Some met Me for the first time on the 86th floor. Some sought Me with their last breath. Some couldn't hear Me calling to them through the smoke and flames; "Come to Me...this way...take My hand." Some chose, for the final time, to ignore Me. But, I was there.
I did not place you in the Tower that day. You may not know why, but I do. However, if you were there in that explosive moment in time, would you have reached for Me?
September 11, 2001 was not the end of the journey for you. But someday your journey will end. And I will be there for you as well.
Seek Me now while I may be found. Then, at any moment, you know you are "ready to go." I will be in the stairwell of your final moments.
~~~ God ~~~
Zoey, you are quiet welcome. My heart goes out to you but please, have faith he will be coming home.
Athena, the Stacey Randall writing is absolutly one of the best ever written for ''that day'' that no matter where we stand on politics, it will always be held dear.
I really have to say after the collecting from friends mails this one talking to her daddy will be yet another that speaks so clear from the mouth of a child.
I had posted this a couple of months back when there was a terrorist plot in NYC uncovered re: the gas lines. I wanted to share it again and was wondering if anyone else is on the board from NY that was there that day?
Also -- Randy if you ever read this (I post it every year on various boards) hopefully you will know how much you meant to me that day!!!
Anyway one of the most positive things that I recall on that day was all of the people further uptown that had not been affected by all of the debris offering free water, sandwiches, coffee, face masks, etc. What I especially remember was a guy named Randy. He was standing outside of his office building and there were about 5 of us from my office - totally covered with debris, eyelashes, clothes. He gave us a key to a lady's room and told us to go to the 11th floor. He said there you will enter an office with a receptionist. Just tell her Randy sent you and she'll know what to do. I just thought I needed to try to call home (my cell phone wasn't working) and use the bathroom. When we got up there and told her "Randy" sent us; without hesitation she got up; went to a "microwave" took out hot towels and washcloths and pointed us to the bathroom. We all went in and washed up and came out. Then she pointed us to the phones and allowed us to make phone calls and there was a table set up with food, coffee and drinks. (Unfortunately I was unable to reach anyone).
To this day I have no idea who Randy is; don't know what office I was in and have never had the opportunity to thank this man and his staff. I don't even remember what street we were on. But anywhere I post about that day I post this message hoping that Randy or someone on his staff reads it and knows how much we appreciated what they did. Stories like this were heard from alot of people and I'll never forget just how great New Yorkers are no matter what color, creed or culture. :rose:
It wasn't until approximately 1:15PM that my daughter was able to get through to my cell phone from school and how upset she was. After I spoke with her I just asked her to contact her brother, my husband and my mom so they would know I was OK.
I hope that Randy reads your message as well Athena. What a wonderful, caring man he was.
For all those that experienced 9/11 close up and personal, my heart goes out to you. I can't even imagine the horror of being there that day. I live so far away from New York, but I know I was terrified watching it unfold on TV. I cried and cried. I had trouble sleeping for weeks.
Athena, I just wanted you to know that even though I don't know you personally, I am glad that you made it through 9/11. I can tell just from your numerous posts what a caring, loving person you are, and I am glad I have had the chance to post with you.
Dear Athena,
I came on line upset about a hot water heater and read the post and yours brought me to tears. I have to say in all of my internet pals I have never had the privilege nor the honor to meet with anyone who was there that day.
I was a loss for comforting words in a world of quick and hateful one so I cooked dinner instead. I came back on line and my loss was filled when opening an e mail from my friend Cathy who sent to first posted tributes and after listening to it, I think it was timed and sent just for you.So, if you never find Randy I just want you to know He was there that day.:patriot: (lame I know but all I have)
I'm so glad you made it Athena. What I find absolutely amazing is in a world full of hate and despair, at one very moment, one kind word, one kind smile or one kind action can change it all. What a very touching story, I thankyou for sharing it with us. I'm from Boston, and I have never experienced a more quiet, sad week, than 9/11. We all came together at that moment, and it really showed unity, even if it was short lived- it was incredibly moving.
OMG -- thank you soooo much! This is so sweet of you. I am crying ....... it means more hearing it than reading it. I've never heard this before. Lame .... you have got to be kidding me. Words cannot express my appreciation. It is still so vivid and I think so often of the friends I lost and had to go through therapy because I made it and they didn't; I was late for work that day and the first plane had already hit when I came up out of the train station. I saw all of these people standing on the street bending down and looking up (there was scaffolding on Wall St due to construction) and I saw the second plane hit and other horrors that I won't mention. I don't want to start babbling ..... I will be attending memorial services Tuesday morning and this year it is the exact day of the week. :( I know one thing if I ever see Randy again -- I'll know. I have never forgotten his face. :rose:
Thanks Zoey and Mishell -- :rose:
Mishell - just have to say -- I really believe there are far many more good people than there are evil.
Sharing what was shared with me...I'm assuming this was written in the days following the 9/11 Attacks.
A Healing Prayer
by Reverend Wintley Phipps
God, we come to you a nation in pain.
Hate has wounded us yet again.
We watched in horror as men whose hearts were filled with hatred, destroyed the lives of thousands of innocent people.
But our hearts also swelled with pride as we saw hundreds of Americans, whose hearts were filled with love and service, sacrifice their lives trying to save others.
The brave firemen, who marched undaunted into those burning buildings.
Those co-workers who perished because they refused to leave the side of the paralyzed or the infirmed.
We find so much hope in their heroism.
Last week, our nation lost so many good people, and for years to come we will all hunger for their smiles, for their laughter, for their counsel, for their fellowship.
This tragedy has cast a shadow of fear and sadness over our nation and today we weep for the innocent who have left us.
We mourn for those who have been taken from us.
Those precious children on their first plane ride.
That father, in pursuit of his career.
That mother trying to keep her children clothed and fed.
That young professional trying to make ends meet.
When we think of them, we are overwhelmed by what seems like an unbearable sense of loss.
But God, help us to remember that just as every flower in a storm is safe with you, we know the innocent are safe also, God, in your care.
Because of your love we believe we will see our loved ones again.
Help us to remember that in our sorrow we do not weep alone.
You weep with us.
AMEN
I remember that day very clearly. My son called me, he said, 'put the TV on mum, America's been hit'. I shall never forget the scenes before me. Please be assured that many, many people shed a tear with you.
I can remember the day it happened, at the time i was working for a cable tv providor in a call center. There were big screen tv's all around the offices and i watched the news as it happened, i remember the phones stopping ringing, no calls came through for what seemed like ages - i guess everyone was watching it happen too. I was shocked speachless. My heart goes out to people who lost loved ones on that .
Last night there were lots of programmes on tv about 9/11 including one about a woman referred to as the 9/11 faker. She had claimed that she survived the attacks and got out of the tower before it fell. Later it was proven that she was not even in New York on that day. How can somone use something so tragic and sad to get attention:cuss:
Have You Forgotten
I hear people saying we don't need this war
I say there's some things worth fighting for
What about our freedom and this piece of ground?
We didn't get to keep 'em by backing down
They say we don't realize the mess we're getting in
Before you start preaching
Let me ask you this my friend
CHORUS 1
Have you forgotten how it felt that day
To see your homeland under fire
And her people blown away?
Have you forgotten when those towers fell?
We had neighbors still inside
Going through a living hell
And you say we shouldn't worry 'bout Bin Laden
Have you forgotten?
They took all the footage off my T.V.
Said it's too disturbing for you and me
It'll just breed anger that's what the experts say
If it was up to me I'd show it every day
Some say this country's just out looking for a fight
After 9/11 man I'd have to say that's right
CHORUS 1
Have you forgotten how it felt that day
To see your homeland under fire
And her people blown away?
Have you forgotten when those towers fell?
We had neighbors still inside
Going through a living hell
And we vowed to get the ones behind Bin Laden
Have you forgotten?
I've been there with the soldiers
Who've gone away to war
And you can bet that they remember
Just what they're fighting for
CHORUS 2
Have you forgotten all the people killed?
Yes, some went down like heroes in that Pennsylvania field
Have you forgotten about our Pentagon?
All the loved ones that we lost
And those left to carry on
Don't you tell me not to worry 'bout Bin Laden
Have you forgotten?
:rose:rose: For Thomas Timothy Haskel, Ladder 13 Battalion 23, my brave FDNY firefighter who gave his life in the pursuit of trying to save others in the south tower of World Trade Center, we will never forget you or the other 2,978 other people that died that horrible and cruel day and that your deaths will never be in vain and you all will forever be American Heroes and will be in all our hearts till the day we all join all of you in Heaven to be with our Savior, Our Lord. The Lord never even saw this coming, the evil that comes from what was considered the Holy Land, his son's birthplace is not something that manifested itself in all who live there, but by one evil son of Satan who hates us all and he gathered his evil flock of warriors and they struck us in the most heinous and cruel and deliberate way, taking innocent civilians and not soldiers of war, and even today, the evil still lurks as he the evil son has not been located and executed and I prayed for years that this would happen and it has not and I want to know why. I am an angry American today, having to relive that horrible day every 9/11 and time does not heal any wounds and nor does get any easier to deal with.
I know you're in pain, and that nothing will ever be the same since losing your cousin, but would you rather that we DIDN'T remember the fallen?
He died doing what he LOVED.
Saving lives!!!
I just think that would be a slap in the face of all that those thousands of lives represent if we stopped having days of remembrance.
Nobody is expecting you to forgive or forget, but to deny a day of remembrance to thousands of men, women and children-the families and friends of the fallen-would be almost sinful.
And although I didn't lose anyone in the Attacks, I will NEVER FORGET THE FALLEN OR THEIR LOVED ONES.
They may not have been my family or friends, but they were our brothers and sisters-our countrymen-and they deserve our thoughts, prayers, honor, and thanks.
Sam, I think you took what I said wrong!! I want everyone in the world to never forget the victims and the survivors and I want them to go down as heroes forever and infinity and I hope 200 years from now, people still honor all these folks and still remember each and every one of them. I am glad President Obama declared 9/11 a National Remember Day, now instead of having to all re-live that awful day, we can look forward to paying homage to all that were lost, the survivors and all the police and fire and rescuers that responded to all the sites. I e-mailed my local fire dept yesterday in honor of 9/11 and thanked them for being dedicated firefighters and I did this in honor of the FDNY. I just wish to hell we would nab Bin Forgotten, I think it would ease a lot of minds to know that POS was in US custody, I think more people would not be so angry and feel that their loved ones died in vain, I know I would feel better. How can we not find one 6 foot 4 inch guy in a robe, he towers over all the rest of them over there?? Maybe Dog Chapman needs to go there, bet he would find him!!!
"HOW TO WIN THE WAR.
FAST!
SENIOR-STYLE.
by Frank Kaiser
Like many of us, I've been pondering how we geezers can further the war effort. We'd buy the new war bonds, but that's hardly enough.
Back in grade school, I remember buying a dime stamp every week which went into a book that, when filled, turned into a war bond.
But that was WW II. A million years ago.
We saved things then, too. Like empty toothpaste tubes. Remember? In those days they were made of lead, and lead made bullets, so?
As I recall, we saved just about everything for the war effort — old shoes, worn-out tires, tin cans, cooking fat, you name it.
I don't think that will happen today. We're pretty much a use-and-dispose society.
Even with people.
I'd join the Army if they'd have me. Did it once before, and it didn't kill me.
In fact, using old guys instead of young guys at the front lines is an idea currently circulating on the Internet. Several Suddenly Senior readers – Penny McGee and Frank Keegan among them – put me on to the notion that the last thing the Taliban would expect coming at them is a few million geezers with attitude.
Here are just some of the ways we old duffers are said to be superior to the youngsters currently fighting.
Young guys think about sex every 12 seconds. Old guys think about sex every week or two, leaving lots of additional time to concentrate on the enemy.
If we old guys were captured, we couldn't divulge secrets because we'd probably forget where we put them. And we've got no hair to grab,
no teeth to pull in torture.
Boot camp would actually be easier for old guys. We're used to getting yelled at, and we actually like bland food. It's easier to eat with dentures.
I can hear the Drill Sergeant now. "Hit the deck and give me — ah — one!"
US Secret Weapon: Post-Menopausal Women
But what about the ladies? Have they no part to play here? Readers Judy Vosburg and Barbara Carnegie sent me the following, also from an anonymous memo bouncing about the Internet.
"Draft American post-menopausal women. Outfit them with automatic weapons, grenades, gas masks, moisturizer, hormones, chocolate, and canned tuna. Then drop 'em across the landscape of Afghanistan, and look the hell out!"
Here are six reasons we need these old girls:
1. Their anger quotient alone, even when doing standard stuff like grocery shopping, is formidable enough to make armed men in turbans tremble.
2. They'd like to get away from their husbands, if they haven't already.
3. They have nothing to lose! They've survived the water diet, the protein diet, the carbohydrate diet, and the grapefruit diet in gyms and saunas across America and never lost a pound. They can easily survive months in the hostile terrain of Afghanistan with no food at all.
4. Finding bin Laden in some cave should be no problem. These women have tracked down husbands and lovers in bars, hardware stores, even men's rooms.
5. Want to unite the warring tribes in a new government? Easy for these American grandmas. For years, they've planned seating arrangements for extended families at holiday dinners. They understand tribal warfare.
6. They've divorced enough husbands to know every trick for hiding money sources. They know where to find the dough and how to seize it ... with or without the government's help!
Here's the best part. Since the Taliban hate women, imagine their terror as battalions of "mature," hot-flashing American dames attack.
Right along side thousands of geezers armed with canes, walkers and bright yellow pants.
My personal favorite was a suggestion that we kidnap Osama bin Laden, take him to Sweden for a sex-change operation, then drop her back into Afghanistan.
Another said we should tell the Taliban that unless they turned the terrorist in, we would round up all their women and send them to college.
Almost makes you pity the enemy.
History Channel ran a couple of programs about 9/11 that I had never seen; one was about individual (non-professional) videographers. Just amazing footage, I was particularly struck by the fact that there was so little outright panic on the street. Particularly poignant was the denial that one young woman experienced at the sight of people jumping from the tower. The other program and topic that I knew very little about was the destruction of the Marriott World Trade Center. One man who survived actually had a sister and niece who were on one of the planes that struck the towers. All I could wonder is what are the odds of that?
RIP to all those souls.
