I don't know about the pizza box, but I think that the spilled Ranch dressing was very significant.

Laci was the one who used Ranch, and she wasn't the type to splash it all over the counter and leave it there.

I've always wondered if Scott didn't grab her from behind while she was standing there eating, or slip a rope around her neck from behind.

Having pizza left over could indicate Laci had expected Amy to accept her invitation.

Having pizza left over could indicate Laci was murdered before she had a chance to eat.

Leaving the box out over night could indicate Laci was murdered and Scott had more important things to do.

If Laci was going to be preparing food, she would have needed the room where the pizza box was.

Allen Brocchini: It's 0967 is the Bates stamp. He took me to the residence, took me to the dining room, into this little sitting room, went into the dining room. That's where the front door leads into the dining room. It's wide open to this little sitting room. I could see into the kitchen. I could see the pizza box on the counter. I could see the converted garage. We went outside and met McKenzie. He pointed out his shoes -- they were outside the French doors just in the corner here -- that he said he wore fishing that day. I picked them up and looked at them. Then we came back inside.
Rick Distaso: Okay. At some time that evening, did you ask ID Tech Lovell to take some pictures of the house?
Allen Brocchini: Actually, I asked detective or Officer Letsinger to -- when Lovell did this, he wasn't there when I was there. I directed Letsinger to tell ID Officer Lovell to take pictures of the inside of the house.
Rick Distaso: Okay. And did that include pictures of the kitchen?
Allen Brocchini: Yes, it did.

I stood at that counter, and while I was is doing that, took me about ten minutes or so, he put the pizza box in the fridge or in the garbage. But I think it was in the fridge.
Rick Distaso: Okay. So he did something with it, but you didn't follow up on where it went?
Allen Brocchini: Yeah, I didn't care where it went.

I never noticed that before. That was some pizza. First, two of them ate if the night before, then Scott had some when he came home, but there was still some left so he put it in the frig.

A pizza lasts about 10 minutes in my house!

By the time the trial rolled around, Distaso and Brocchini had put everything together, realizing that Scott made statements to the first officers on the scene about Laci cleaning up and mopping.. But during Brocchini's first walk-thru and meeting with Scott, Brocchini didn't realize any signficance in seeing the box on the counter, and of Scott removing it from his sight.

Mine too, until I got strategic about pizza. Have the pizza guy place one mushroom, black olive, or green pepper smack in the middle on top. By the time each piece gets inspected for additional stray ones, you can be halfway through dessert!

Scott certainly became very aware of how neat things were when the police were there, didn't he. Doesn't give with the guy with duffle bags on the floor full of stuff, does it? Or the guy with the matress blocking the window in the dining room on the February search. Or the guy who leaves a loaded gun in his glove box for 4 months

If that were spilled in the course of eating a meal, any normal person would clean it immediately... even a slob would clean it. If it's there, it was probably a good indicator that Scott was in the process of killing Laci when the dressing was spilled... No way in the world, Laci would leave that dressing there on the counter..

Remember, Stacy Boyers said Scott was very busy vacuuming less than 24 hours later, just a short distance away from the kitchen counter near the washer alcove.. She must have somehow transmitted to Scott thru language or looks that what he was doing seemed inappropriate in that time, Scott responded.. "I can't keep this house clean enough"

I recall discussing this back in the CTV days. Exhibit is Pros. 37V. The area in question doesn't look to have room for a pizza box and that's a lot of slop for it to be ranch. Look at how spotless everything else is in that photo. Laci wouldn't have wiped it up with a paper towel?

If you look at the mirror on the orange wall, it appears there is a can light above the mirror. It is my opinion that the "ranch" is actually a reflection of the can light off the well shined tile counter. You can see the can lights in 37W.

The only evidence of pizza eating and movie watching in the photos is the TV tray on the Ottoman and there are blankets on both the couch and the loveseat. Odd that the pillows are almost perfectly placed on both pieces of furniture, but the blankets are there in a heap (see 37Z).

IMO, the family room or whatever it is, looks staged. The doors wide open on the armoire, the blankets and TV tray are the only untidy things in the room, everything else looks like typical Laci perfection. Makes no sense that she'd have the energy to do all that she was to do, but wouldn't fold the blankets, put away the TV tray, or wipe up the ranch - be it that night or the next morning.

Yep, all one needs to do is look at the photos from the 24th and the 26/27th photos, specifically the dining room table and the kitchen area around the sink, to see the difference between casa Peterson with Scott in charge and with Laci in charge.

I agree with the armoire and the blankets on the couch. VERY out of the ordinary for Laci, not for Scott tho. If you harbor any illusion that he is a neat person, look at proseuction 88 and 89 - his home office desk. Pig sty is too kind a description of same.

How do you know it was Ranch?

How do you know it was Ranch?I don't think anybody can definitively know the spill/stain/glare was ranch. But there was a bottle of Ranch on the counter.. One of the police testified to it.. just one brief mention.. which leads to the speculation that it was a spill of dressing.

IIRC Stacey Bowers and Lori Ellsworth volunteered to do some shopping a few days after Laci was reported missing. They thought it strange paper towels, napkins and garbage bags were all needed and reported it to MPD.
