I watched a short clip of Anne Bird, interviewed I think by Matt Lauer. Perhaps it was a promo. I was stunned to see that Scott stayed on the second floor and had a good view of the Bay from his window.

I never heard a word about this before.. Has this been discussed on the Peterson boards.. ?

I take it that you have not read Anne's book. By all means, DO read it - it's a great insight into the Peterson family and Scott and what went on when he was MIA from Modesto.

Yes, Anne's house is in the hills of Berkeley so the second story would have a view of the Bay. I'm sure he enjoyed that.

Anybody want to trade Anne's book for a "Guilty" issue of the Modesto Bee that I saved on the day of the conviction? In addition to the front page story, there are some really good photos and other articles on the case and family to read. I'll trade it for the book in any condition.

Yep. It's no wonder Scott's supporters never miss an opportunity to attack and denigrate her. It says nothing about Anne and a lot about them IMO.

I wish I still had mine, because I'd love to trade - but I gave away all my Peterson books a long time ago.

I did pick up another copy of "For Laci" at a used book store today, and am in the process of re-reading it.

If anyone on this board would like it when I'm finished, just pm me.

I was just thinking the same thing about going to a used book store. I've read Sharons book and don't think I could read it again - the tears flowed and :read: well you know, I couldn't stop crying. I passed it on to a fellow poster but I haven't read Anne's book yet. I have no desire to read Ambers, I'm just not sure what she could add to the story that the others didn't already contribute.

I think that Sharon's book still sells for a good price online, but Anne's book you should be able to find cheaply on Ebay or Amazon.

Amber's book - you can read the little bit of it that's interesting right in the book store.

I keep finding things I hadn't noticed before or had forgotten about in "For Laci".

Sharon says that she had read Anne's book and had liked it and appreciated it.

At first, Laci was writing to "Conner" in her diary, but she later changed the spelling to "Connor".

<snip>

My heart ached for her when I read her book and even more when I saw her interview with Matt Lauer. She comes across as sincere and very likeable. This must have devastated her.

Really? Have you met Anne personally? Or can you tell she is an "honest, sweet lady" just from her media interviews?

It's interesting that there are some things Sharon writes that actually contradict what Anne wrote in her book. Like the reason Anne wasn't invited to Laci and Scott's wedding.

When checking on the spelling of "Conner/Connor" in "For Laci" - I found Scott and Laci's choice for his middle name VERY interesting - and very telling - it seems his middle name was going to be Jackie's maiden name - Latham. Page 70 - For Laci.

I know. One can just feel Jackie's hand in this......telling Anne that Laci wasn't comfortable with having Anne there, and telling Laci that Anne couldn't come.

Cookie I agree with you 100%. I am certain it was Jackie who didn't want the talk of Laci's wedding to be about the presense of her two children she had out of wedlock and never told anyone about. And you know, for once...I don't blame her. I just don't think she should have lied at Laci's expense to protect herself.

IMO

I think the story Laci told her mother about Anne not wanting to come because she "didn't want anything to do with the Petersons" did come from Scott, though.

We know that Anne DID want to socialize with the Peterson's at that time. She invited them to her own wedding.

Scott just wanted to take the decision out of Laci's hands by saying that, and Jackie wanted to take it out of Laci's hands by telling Anne that Laci didn't want her there.

It's so....Peterson-like.

Reminds me of when Scott told Sharon that he couldn't contact his parents because they were at his sister's for Christmas and he didn't know his sister's number - but then Sharon answers the phone a little bit later and it's Jackie, on her way to Modesto.

I'll be happy to tell you exactly what it means Acorn. It means Laci had absolutely NO idea what was going on behind her back. She didn't have a clue that she was surrounded by sharks...she was so trusting, and no doubt it was a major effort to PLEASE the witch (Jackie) who she wasn't good enough for.

:flamemad:This is a very good explanation, TG. Laci really didn't have a clue and deserved so much more than what she received from the P family. All of them. Perhaps they didn't care for Laci because they knew they could never hold a candle to her.

I'll reply to both of you here. Acorn, to my knowledge Laci didn't voice a negative opinion about the P's, except for Anne Birds book where, IIRC, ISP said something about "those two...". So maybe there was some angst there. I think Laci just couldn't please Jackie no matter what she did, and Jackie didn't hide her feelings.

Sun...I also read that Susan was jealous over how well Anne and ISP got along, so there seems to be that jealousy thread throughout. I always thought Jackie was extremely jealous of Laci, as if SHE was "the other woman", it has always been very weird.

I do think Lee loved Laci. I know by the time the trial rolled around he was just vicious toward the Rocha's, but I really think he loved her.

Were there ever any allegations that Laci didn't like Jackie? I only remember reading it as the other way around. I wonder if Laci even knew about it?IMO, it would be almost impossible for Laci to like Jackie. Because of Jackie's unhealthy feelings for Scott, I'm SURE Laci sensed many times she wasn't good enough for the perfect son.. which would naturally cause resentment. I think in general women are very sensitive to their mother-in-laws feelings and will pick up a lot of the subtlety and nuance underlying the relationships between the 3 of them. If MIL is not on her side, the daughter in law will realize it.

The reasoning for that could be many. My cousin's mother-in-law actually held up the first son's birth certificate by insisting that he have her maiden name as his middle name - he wound with with two middle names just to PACIFY that side of the family.
