OMG. I can't even think of words to say. And people are calling in to adopt this dog? What the hell is wrong with these people? I am sorry, I love all of God's creatures, except for snakes, but that dog caused horrific pain and trauma to an innocent little baby. OMG.

 OMG that is horrible. I can't believe people want to adopt the dog either - the dog needs to be put down IMO.

This news certainly has captured the attention of this area. The dog is currently at the SPCA, IIRC .... and they have people from the "animal world" who want to study this. I guess they want to know if this was "learned behavior" on the part of the dog. The way I read THAT is .... did someone TEACH the dog to do this ???

If someone taught that dog to do that, then that is one sick SOB and they need to be locked up as well. That was an innocent little baby, who will be scarred for the rest of his (?) life. This just makes me cry.

Thanks - I guess I missed that part. It does make you wonder doesn't it?

I remember as a girl one of the neighborhood boys had a dog who would jump up on peoples backs and start its business - It makes me wonder now if the dog was taught that? - ewwwwwww sorry this is all just so sick. That poor little baby. :rose:

Where were the child's CLOTHES? Training pants, diaper? I hope the parents are thoroughly investigated.

Poor baby!

dixinites .... Apparently, from updates I've read .... the mother had sent the toddler into the living room to get a clean diaper. He apparently had soiled his diaper. They are saying now, it COULD have been the scent of the soiled diaper. It all sounds so awful.

There have been many letters, emails, etc., written, to do exactly that !! Investigate the parents.

Thank you fairmaiden. I don't want anyone here to think I'm not a dog lover because I am, but in the best interest of everyone involved I think this dog needs to be euthanized. Thats just my opinion though - I'm sure others won't agree with it, but if this dog would attack a 2 year old in this manner, god forbid what it would do the next time given the opportunity.

Prayers for this baby and his family. :rose:

O2S .... I would have to agree with you about that. Even if it was some kind of "freak" thing, it was certainly an awful thing. There are others in this area who don't agree with us. So many want to adopt this dog.

They were saying how a dog has this very, very keen sense of smell. It might have smelled a female dog in heat, along with the soiled diaper. Still so hard to imagine though.

I could hardly believe that story when I first read it. Those updates add some helpful details that didn't make it in to the regular news.

I also found this story incredibly disturbing.

They say they've had the dog since it was a puppy with no previous issues with aggressiveness or behavior of this nature! They are saying that the dog was not taught to do such behavior it's sex drive was just overpowering and the baby was available? Both the baby and the pit bull were both 2 years old. Why on earth would you get a baby pit bull at the same time you are having a baby come into your lives? That just seems like terrible judgement call on the part of the parents.

I can't even imagine how I would handle such a horrific scenario as the parent of the toddler.

What a tragedy.

The only thing this family can be thankful for is that this child is too young to remember what happened to him when he grows up. Also, if I was the parents and it ever crossed my mind to tell my child, I'd decide against it real quick.

I live less than a mile from where this happened. I find the whole thing bizarre to say the least.

Something isn't right. The child had no bite marks, scratches, or even bruises which is what you would expect from this kind of activity when the male dog "holds" the female. The mother wanted the dog put down immediately - in fact she was in a hurry to have it done. No investigation, just do it now. And now she's "relocated"......?

And yet a witness helped to separate the dog from the child?

All the dog experts seem highly skeptical. Many people I've "talked" with on other boards who I know have a lot of experience with dogs are in a state of disbelief.

The more I read about this case the more skeptical I have become of the mother's story.

The main issue is this child was supposedly sent by the mother out to grab a new diaper (hence why the toddler was naked) BUT a dog would need inclination to mate with a human it's not native behavior even among a dog reaching any sexual maturity... would need to get the child into a proper mating position then would have to begin the mating process which requires holding onto the child with it's claws into the side or by nipping down on the neck or other such fixing of the position. This is not a one-three second process it takes time where the child was unattended, longer time than it takes to go fetch a diaper.

The child had NO MARKS AT ALL apart from the brutalized entry/exit. This means that either someone held the baby in position to be abused or the dog didn't abuse the baby someone or something else is responsible.

According to the story another man (not a husband or apparant BF of the mother) had to chase down the "connected" dog and baby and the damage was caused by forced removal of the animal. While that might sound plausible, really try to visualize the body of a toddler being run away with by a dog... did the toddler float on air? No, of course not. There would be dragging, scratching, rug burn... bruising... the child wasn't riding the dog's back like a ride.

The dog's fluids and DNA have been taken, the child has been examined and has had surgery to correct the abusive damage, but is still in the hospital. Investigation is still pending. There are other children in that family, but the ages were not released.

IMO Even if there is dog DNA in that baby there are still questions of how that dog and baby got connected and mated without any assistance and no marks on the child in the time it took for the baby to be unattended getting a diaper...I don't buy it.

I don't know why anyone would allow this to happen to their baby. I hope investigators can learn the truth.

I'm trying to figure out how a dog could connect with a child as well. The child would have had to have been in a certain "position". Also seems to me the child would have had to have been held and not by the dog either. Something stinks with this story and it's not just the diaper. JMO

I agree Atok. I was looking for an update today and couldn't find anything. I'll keep looking. Very sad for this baby but I suspect you are correct, there's more to this story than whats being told. :(

I just don't buy it. Members of my family have bred pit for twenty years. The baby must have been held down by somebody, as there are no marks typically found on the female pit after breeding. I don't want to get real graphic, but it is possible that the (how do I put this?) dogs member was stuck. There are certain physical change that occur to the male during breeding to prevent the female from disengaging. (Dear Lord, it's too early for this)

Now the momma has run off, er, excuse me, relocated? Hmm. And where is the baby's daddy?

Something is rotten in Denmark.

Thanks for keeping up with this story, Uriel. I felt bad for starting it, then I had to go into the hospital for an emergency surgical procedure.

Thanks again ....

What I don't like is they forcibly dislodged the dog, which caused serious and extent damage to the little boy, but if you grab a hose and spray the dog will retract, I have a degree in animal science and they taught us NEVER forcibly remove dogs when in action as you can cause serious damage to the female, you spray them with a hose.
