OMG I had to tell someone! A few days ago a guy got rolled and died from the altercation. I knew the woman who found him and tried to resuscitate him and it really is a big thing in a town this size. He died for a lousy $20 dollars that would be $10 probably in America. Anyway I just picked up the paper and saw one of my girlfreinds on the front page attending his funeral and the penny dropped it was her Dad!!! I will have to go see her but I am in shock and I don't know what to say to her. How crazy it is such a small world.

Well I know this is just my excuse but I will letcha borrow it: If God had intended for us all to be skinny He would have made us that way. OR: Well if we weren't meant to smoke why the Tobacco plant? I could go on and excuse away all our vices LOL. I never could smoke, tried real hard to but could not quit coughing, both my parents did so it is a wonder I didn't. But food oh beautiful food, new recipes old recipes no recipes they are all good. I have debated the diet thingy because I do not want any more wrinkles than I have! If I could just go through the day without gravity I would not look so bad. WAIT I don't look so bad NOW to heck with this stinky tuna tasting diet!! THANK YOU MAYBABY YOU HAVE SAVED ME!! Lol

Okay, I have three questions:
1. Do ya'll really eat like this down south? I mean, your food just begs to be eaten.
2. Why do they call it sweet tea?
3. Why does that mac-n-cheese not look like the kind out of the blue box?
These are not trick questions, or a joke. I am dead serious here!!

Zoey, I can't speak for GA, but yes, this is the way we eat...it's the way I was raised...Grew up on a farm in south Georgia...always had a huge vegetable garden...and Mama did lots of canning and freezing (2 big chest-type freezers)...always something good to eat year round! And at our house, we were always together at supper...maybe not at breakfast or dinner, but supper was an occasion at our house. It was the one time of the day that we were together as a family. And on Sundays, our home was the gathering place for the rest of the family...many happy memories were made on those days.
Sweet tea must be a southern thing. I never knew there was any other way to have it until I went to a restaurant and they served it unsweetened. I thought I was gonna die! I like my tea with lots of sugar...none of that artificial stuff even comes close.
And the mac & cheese? Nothing better than homemade, but I'm lazy so mine comes out of the blue box!

Zoey you be so funny!
1. Yes we eat like this down South.
2. Sweet tea has 3 cups of sugar to the gallon
3. Cause this mac and cheese is the real stuff and my Granddaughter won't eat it! She demands Easy Mac!

Okay, so are any of you from the south missing a sister, cuz I want to come down south, or does someone just want to go ahead and adopt me? OMG, that food is just awesome. My idea of a good meal is not getting the special sauce from my Big Mac on my shirt! And sweet tea, oh, I love tea, and I am almost positive that I could be convinced to drink sweet tea, because it sounds like heaven.

OK South Ga. get ready we got new blood coming. LOL that reminds me a few years ago a young couple from Ohio bought some of the farm across our back land line. They were so excited and then they just ruined it by saying they had to bring new blood into our area because the gene pool was greatly lacking since most everyone was kin. LOL I adopted them too they say I am their Southern Mama and I call them my yankee kids. I do love family and since mine is so very small I appreciate you all that I call my chilun.
Another funny thing is most of the community calls me Mama Jane, some of them or 10 to 15 years older than me but I love it. I wanted a soft ball team full of kids, I had one, then one granddaughter so my heart has plenty of room for more.

Thanks for the info on the book, Sharon. I so want to quit and stay that way. Hubby got his prescription for the Chantix today. And he is looking at it just like I keep looking at mine. Wish it didn't have to be so hard...maybe if we both didn't like smoking so much, that it wouldn't be.
Hello all you chocoholics!
I hope this is the right thread to stop in, introduce myself and ask a quick question.
I just registered here yesterday and noticed that my computer runs realllllly slow on this site and at CTV. I'm using Safari on a Mac PowerBook.
Any of you techies know why this would be? tia for any thoughts.
Perhaps because of a lot of traffic or posting activity?

OH, this is my chance to help someone!!!! You see I was the biggest smoker (in secret from my husband) since I was about 13. I didnt even quit during 3 pregnancies.....and would have prefered divorse than quiting my ciggies. Plus I always battled weight and overeatting. I think the two can go hand in hand!!!!
So, after 20 years of smoking, and trying to quite, I was resigned that I would always smoke because there was no way I was going to go thru the rest of my life white knuckling it !!!! Now by this stage I was getting very ill and every cold turned into a chest infection etc.
But, you would be amazed to learn that a book changed my life and I did quite with NO cravings and no looking back just as this book promiced!!!!! Its the Alan Carr---- Easy Way to Quit Smoking, and I owe that guy my life!!!!
So I would like to pass on this under marketed book. This guy really knows his stuff and he insists that you smoke as much as you can while you read the book. No quite dates either or preaching. He simply brings you back to the point you were before you ever had the first puff!!!!!
I have tried everything! ..even hypnosis and am after 40+ years of smoking at least 2 pkgs a day down to ONE PACK A WEEK! I'm going to quit, I'm on the right road. Then, I'll probably develop lung cancer anyway - LoL! But, as Hank Williams, Sr. said ... (he may have been quoting someone else in his song), "You can't leave this world alive" (or something like that)...
:seeya:
Although I'm a Hoosier Girl, your description sounds like the good ol' days when I was growing up. In the summer, I'd find a salt shaker and go sit in a row and eat corn and tomatoes right out of the garden - until I got caught! Oh no! Whupin' time!

Evenin' ya'll,
This infernal machine was down for 4 days this time. Arrgghhh! Well, it's working now.
Hope everyone is doing well. I've caught up on the posts and send prayers to all who are having trouble. Someone sent me this today and it touched me:
"You may be only one person to the world, but you may be the world to one person."
Somebody posted about losing weight. In two years, I've lost 80lbs by no longer drinking soda. Maybe give it a try?
Dallasvic, glad to see you.
Charmaine, I'll pray for your health.
GAC, that last meal looked like it could have been on my granny's table at home in TN. Papaw used to chase us kids out of the garden for eating his tomatos of the vine. LOL Sweet tea may also be refered to as "nectar of the gods"
I'm off to the boards. :chicken:

Thanks Sharon :seeya: I will try anything to help Mr Bum. He started smoking at 13. My first hubby didn't smoke, neither myself or my kids (25+20) do. I hate the fact that he smoke's and smells like an ashtray  He thinks it's acceptable because he doesn't drink  And the windows :cuss: better stop before I scream. Sore topic, but thanks :rose:
Well maybe it would help if you read the book ! Seriously, most people dont understand that the addiction is so strong to the smoker that if you try to scare them by mentioning things like canser, disease etc, they get stressed .......and instantly reach for a cigarette!!! You will be amazed to learn that EVERY smoker knows of someone who lived to 100 while smoking 2 packs a day! Every smoker believes that a cigerette can help you when you`re stressed...but also rev. you up when you are tired!!!! Funnily it can also relax your mind when you need to chill or it can make you think better???? Its a very funny illogical addiction, I can tell you that, lots of mind games involved. And fwiw, I was a smoker for 26 years!!! Im very lucky that I dont look like a smoker....its very bad for your skin!!!!!

Darling, I really tried everything. I tried hypnosis, patches many times, the gum, cold turkey, hot turkey (j/k), special tablets that cost hundreds of dollars, therapy, and bribary. But you know what, if I couldnt stop even when I was pregnant you could say I was as addicted as any drug addict could be........plus......my husband is so anti smoking that I had to pretend I had quite before we got married. So not only was I a smoker but I was a lyer too!!!! So even on our honey moon Im making up reasons to `escape` and go have a ciggi!!!!! You know the sheer amount of work that I did to hold onto my ciggis would amaze you!!!! I would even wait up till 2.00 am in the morning and go ouside for a secret smoke. And then my kids were anti smoking so I had to hide from them too!!!! The stress was very high as my dh had locked me out of the house and left me on a holiday before over catching me smoke.....It was exhausting....but the last thing on my mind was to give up the smokes, all I could think of was how to plan my day around smoking better!!!!! That, or was seriously planning on leaving husband due to me prefering my smokes!!!!
I estimate that I spent thousands of dollars trying to quite with no results......and then spent ten bucks on a silly little book that tells you to smoke....and it was magic!!!!!
If you google this book you will see hundreds of testimonies saying how it worked!
So please believe me that if this book could help me, it could help anyone. :seeya:

Lovely to see you too!!! And yes, that forum you talk of is a killer!!!! LOL
But there are some wonderful forums around CL where you can really contribute without arguing with people who made up their mind 10 years ago!!!!!! I dont want to even think about that!!!!!!
You will love the book. Maybe we can have a bookclub section because I love talking about the smoking and my life now. Other methods make you feel guilty for thinking about smoking, this book encourages you to talk about it. Afterall, the cigs dont have any power over me any more, I dont have to pretend they dsont excist. And fwiw, my life is much better without them.
The main problem was the craving got very bad, and in the end I was wanting to have a cigi while I had one lit in my hand!!!! I am back to the point of before I ever started, so I have no cravings. I dont know how the book did it either as there was no pressure to give up. The book encourages you to smoke as much as you can when doing this method. I loved him for letting me do that!!!!!

My father smoked over 40 a day and he started smoking when he was 9 years old (little devil)! When he was 53 he caught influenza and we had to call the doctor in. He hadn't been near the doctor in decades and the doc told him he had to stop smoking. Unbelievably, my father never smoked another cigarette from that day onwards and he lived another 30 years. However, he never lost the cravings and always maintained that he was still a smoker. He said that if he were to light a cigarette for someone else, he would start again. My niece was also a very heavy smoker and she gave it up cold when she found out she was pregnant. I'm so full of awe for anyone who can give up smoking because I think it must take a lot of willpower.
Apparently quite a lot of people have given up since the smoking ban because the inconvenience of having to go outside in the cold and wet was just too much hassle.
I have colleagues who swear by the patches too.
Good luck in your efforts andU!

Thanks Jayelles... I won't permit myself to smoke in my own home because I detest the smell! I don't want it in my carpet, my furniture, my clothes and don't want my family to inhale second hand smoke when they come to visit. Can you believe this? I am addicted and I detest the addiction, seeing me smoke outside on my porch speaks loudly against my Christianity. It makes me a hipocrite, admittedly. That is the only reason I want to quit.

Have you ever seen the smoking campaign with the identical twins? One had smoked all her life and the other hadn't and the smoking twin looked much older than the non-smoking twin. I thought it was a good campaign for deterring young girls because it targeted physical appearance rather than health, but I can't find any images online for it. Smoking seems to be more prevalent among girls than boys - in my mind anyway. I think youngsters don't consider the health aspects of smoking. Maybe they think that any side-effects are in the far distant future and reckon they'll be able to give up long before then.
My sister never felt she could tell her kids not to smoke when she is such a heavy smoker herself and my older niece started smoking when she was 14. My younger niece used to get into strops about them smoking and was always lecturing them and waving her arms about for the smell and smoke. Imagine our astonishment when we discovered that she'd taken up smoking too. She *said* that she only smoked an occasional one to keep her friends at Uni company and that she could stop any time she liked. Alas she can't and her older, heavier smoking sister is the one who was able to give up.

I remember my grandmother (who died at age 56 of throat/lung cancer) used to smoke and then hit the Listerine bottle so that her grown step children wouldn't detect the smoke. Grandpa had already passed; it was very unlady like behavior for women to smoke, especially in public, during my youth. Then, came the burning of the bra! Soooo sorry, I'm off topic!

No, Jayelles, I haven't seen that commercial. My mother smoked heavily until about 10 yrs. before she died with colon cancer; my dad smoked only occasionally. Out of their five daughters, two of us smoke and have been trying to quit for forty-eleven years!

Dream flying planes
Sue and Bob, a pair of tight wads, lived in the mid west, and had been married years.
Bob had always want to go flying. The desire deepen each time a barn stormer flew into town to offer rides.
Bob would ask, and Sue would say, "No way, ten dollars is ten dollars."
The years went pay, and Bob figured he didn't have much longer, so he got Sue out to the show, explaining, it's free to watch, let's at least watch.
And once he got there the feeling become real strong. Sue and Bob started an arguement.
The Pilot, between flights, overheard, listened to they problem, and said, "I'll tell you what, I'll take you up flying, and if you don't say a word the ride is on me, but if you back one sound, you pay ten dollars.
So off they flew. The Pilot doing as many rolls, and dives as he could.
Heading to the ground as fast as the plane could go, and pulling out of the dive at just the very last second. Not a word. Finally he admited defeat and went back the air port.
"I'm surprised, why didn't you say anything?"
"Well I almost said something when Sue fell out, but ten dollars is ten dollars."
Good night guys I'm off to have another snooze! ZZzzzzzz!

ZZzzzzzz!
Too cute!!!
andU you're avatar is kinda creepy. LOL it reminds me of the Chuckie the Doll movies.

Is that meant to be a child falling down......?
Is that meant to be a child falling down......?
I don't think so; just a character - it is supposed to be comical, I think.
It's okay CB I bought my earplugs with! :D

I thought it was a child falling down the stairs, too, but since no one said anything, I thought it was just me. I am glad to see you removed it, though.

Okay, whatever buddy; maybe some women don't take it personally when you invade their personal space but I sure do. The beauty though? I tape recorded the conversation and he didn't even know it. So, I'm set because I have his acknowledgment of what he did on tape.

That is just TOO CUTE! LOL! Hubby and I smoke.....the grandchildren want us to quit so badly....we're going to try really hard....we don't have any weigh problems, yet...might after we quit thought! We're both tall and thin.....will we eat more when we quit? :( That might be worse than smoking, huh? Have a wonderful day, ladies....nice to meet all of you!
Hey Guys,
I have just been reading all your posts about smoking and I just had to tell you about my Nana. She died from emphysema and my Mum nursed her in our home until she passed away. I was about thirteen years old and I watched my beautiful Nana go from a healthy normal weight to weighing about 28kgs. She was a mild asthmatic and stopped smoking as soon as she found out she had emphysema. Every breath was a struggle for her and she had to be hooked up to oxygen tanks 24/7. She could not even walk three feet without massive breathing problems which were usually followed by an ambulance having to be called. I remember clearly the neighbours coming out for a look when the ambulance arrived one day and my sister screaming at them 'why are you looking, you know why it's here'! My Nana died without ever seeing my beautiful girls. She just lived for her grandchildren and I would have loved to have known her as an adult. I have missed out on all those lovely chats that you have with your Nana about what your own kids are up to and just life in general. Also, my awesome Mum had lost her best friend. My Nana was only 64 years old when she died. We all took care of her and it is a very traumatic part of my childhood that I will never forget. Anyway, I know it is really hard to stop smoking, (my Mum still smoked for another ten years after my Nana died), but please do it so that your children/grandchildren do not have to go through what my family went through. Oh yeah, the average weight gain upon cessation of smoking is around 2kgs!! Take care. xxx

Thanks, Charmaine! My grandchildren are added reasons that I'm quitting... when your grandchildren look at you and declare that their teacher told them that cigerette smoking is the same as taking drugs, what in the world do you have for defense? I acknowledged it to them and ask them to pray for me.

I hear you Charmaine, although my Nana did not die because of smoking, I never got to get to know her as an adult. And I never got to meet my grandfathers, they both died the same year, in 1984 when I was only 9 months old, a month apart from each other. I hope I can be around for my grandchildren for a long time so that they won't have to only get to know me through stories and second hand memories, I really feel like I missed out in the grandparent department.
But I guess thats the way the cookie crumbles ;)

GAC, the dress only cost $45, does that tell you something or what? lol I'm so excited, I feel about 21 again & it is wonderful. The kids found my highschool yearbook. I'm taking it to Florida with me for when the girls & I get together. Boy, that almost made me feel old. I don't think anything could do that today. The beau & I finally connected this morning. ;) We start the official countdown in 5 days.
This morning's positive affirmation was very nice, so I thought I would share:

A big ol' desert Welcome! to our newbies. 15,000. That's more people than were in the village we lived in New York had.
It's a beautiful Sunday here, except it is 107. Anything over 105, we just call 100 and stupid. LOL Anyway, clear blue skies, gentle breeze. Very nice day.
Got some info on my pension in the mail over the weekend. At my current pace, I will reach my goal in 4 yrs, not 10. Wahoo!! This will allow me to move back to the East Coast before I'm too old to enjoy it.
Kids are doing great. Our son called Sat. night. He & his gf go to the doctor next week. They'll be able to learn the sex of my 1st grandbaby. I'm so excited. LOL I'm not so sure I would want to know ahead of time. Opinions, ya'll? Would you or did you know? Seems to me it would be like opening the best gift of your life 3 days early.
Happy Sunday, a little late today.
I'm off to the boards. :chicken:

Congratulations to you. First grandbaby - how awesome.
I have never been one to want to know the sex of my kids or grandkids. I like to be surprised. Even though I crochet afghans for all of them, I just made them so they could work for either sex, and then when they were born, I crochet a special one in either pink or blue.

Good for you Kate. You're one smart cookie to tape record the conversation!
My beau and I have been out of sync all week. So, I'm a bit out of sorts. We did manage to connect this morning for about 20 minutes on instant messaging. Only because I "accidentally" over slept and was 10 minutes late for work. :)
I got the perfect sexy lil black dress last weekend. I'm looking for some strappy little sandals to go with it now. And bought $80 in pretty undies.
I'm old & unmarried, not dead & buried.
19more days and my toes will be in the Atlantic. Not that I'm counting or anything.
Happy Friday

AMEN! Pretty undies are a necessity! I've laughing now because I've got two underwear drawers; one for the pretties and the other for the not so pretties that are used when I'm bloated and on my period and don't feel like being pretty.

Morning everybody!! Well, just barely still morning here. I was on the puter til very late last night.
Mishell, I'm so excited for you. Have a wonderful time at your concert Tuesday!! So dish, is he very handsome? :D
"I am surrounded by love and prosperity. I am destined to become a success at all I try." Isn't that nice?
Happy Saturday!

I never had the oppurtunity to date anyone with green eyes, either. I have always wanted too, I love them. I have always wanted green myself, I used to wear colored contacts. I have dark hazel, light brown eyes, but yes you are so right, eyes are everything. Eyes are the windows to ones soul.

My daughter in love, oops, ex daughter in love I guess I have to say has green eyes. We all have brown or black eyes. My Dad had beautiful Blue eyes and it just killed him that my eyes were brown like Mamas, when I was a teen and getting ready for a date I asked my Daddy what color my eyes were. Should have known better, he looked at me so serious and said "chicken **** brown" lol, almost broke my tender heart until he told me " but I love you anyway!"

They finally got the race in; although they shortened it. I'm not real happy with the winner, but I'm hoping that Jr ended up with a top 10 finish. I don't think he's going to make the Chase this year - that's what Teresa deserves, IMO. I wish Truex would get out of DEI, too. I'm sure Dale Sr. is not resting peacefully with what she has done with his business. The sooner this season is over, the sooner Jr's life can begin again.

Ok, I need some prayers and support - you know, all that girlie stuff. I'm having minor surgery on Friday morning (hernia repair - caused from a previous much more serious surgery) and I'm getting anxious. Not that my faith is lacking, I know the surgeon, we worship at the same church every week and I trust in God to guide his hands throughout the operation. My last ordeal was because I developed infection in the incision (my entire abdomen was left wide open (they had to remove the staples) - I could see the blue stitches that closed the thin wall holding my intestines in there) and then I had a pancreatitis attack, which further detained healing... I ended up spending 37 days in the hospital, during which they had called my family because they weren't sure if I was going to pull through - and I felt so badly that I was praying for the Lord to take me Home.
So, if you pray, would you please include this old woman and the minor surgery in your prayers? TIA! I believe in the power of prayer and I know that He hears every single one!

Thank you! Yes, He is Awesome and the author of Healing. I expect to be back home by Friday evening or Sat. morning. What? You mean you won't be there with homemade chicken soup waiting for me? Actually, I have made some and stuck it in the freezer; as well as some other things because I know I won't be able to lift my heavy cookware for a bit. You guys are the Greatest! I would love to send you a whole bouquet of these:

But here is the real deal we have wild Hogs in South Georgia and I have become addicted to the hunt, could it be the woods with hot sweaty men? Naw, I think it is my 4 wheeler! Mine is like this one but it has a neat basket in front and lots of seat attachments.
I just found out Polaris makes one in PINK, I have to have it lol.

You are most definitely in my prayers. I too am a big believer in the power of prayer, so will add you to my list. :rose: :rose:

http://www.riouxinc.com/Bigbear4x4-lg.jpg Morning Gacountry :seeya: You said the magic word "Hog", we love to hunt. We are firm believers in only hunting what you eat. I would like to let everyone know that if your not going to eat your kill, think about donating it to Hunt for the Hungry. Many States support this cause, I know Tifton Ga has a drop off.

It was totally my own doing. The night before at the concert I had beers, and than the next day I ate a slice of pizza and my dad made pasta so I had ziti with EXTRA sauce. And it burned like a mofo!
