I was out and about reading on some of the different forums and I came upon the Tara forum wherein a new poster addressed One2Snoop as One2Scoop!!

I had to comment, but didn't feel that thread was the place to do so. I read that post a couple of times, thinking, what are they talking about? And then it dawned on me. The past couple of weeks, I have been reading
One2Snoop's nic as One2Scoop as well!!! I thought it was a little odd, but thought maybe this person worked in an ice cream parlor or something!!!

It is amazing how you think you are reading something correctly and it turns out you are way off!!!

I mean this all in fun ONE2SNOOP!! The posts made me laugh and I really needed that!! :D

LOL -I'm glad you got a good laugh out of them because so did I.

Were those shrimp up to expectations! I enjoyed them and Jeevers made a special trip in to tell me how good they were.

Aahhhhhh it is so good to be sitting in this cozy chair in my slippers.

I come to CL for the board that has my heart but this is my relaxation and my calm in the mist of the storm so to speak. Pray for Tara and her family as well as all the many families we read about here that have lost loved ones.

Good night all I think I will sit here and enjoy my coffee and this new book for a few minutes.
Those shrimp did the trick! They just happen to be our favourite :) Hope you had a good weekend :seeya:

Want a laugh?

I went into town today to buy fabric for a costume I'm making and when I went into the fabric store, I spotted a former colleague. So I went up beside him and said "Hi there - long time no see - how are you?" and he looked at me, a little confused and said "I'm fine... eh..." ... I realised he'd forgotten my name so I reminded him of my name and he said "Of course (so and so)" but he didn't look terribly enlightened. So I asked after his family and he brightened up a little and started to tell me how his various children and grandchildren were doing and only at this point did I realise he wasn't who I thought he was! I then spent about 10 minutes having this most bizarre conversation with a complete stranger - who looked very like someone I used to work with - and of course it was too late for me to tell him I'd mistaken him for someone else.

He was very nice and his family sounded very nice too but I'm sure the poor bloke must have thought he was going off his head as he would have been completely unable to recall who I was or where he was supposed to know me from.

LMAO!!!!!! Atleast you played it off, because he's ringing his head wondering how bad his memory really is, and you spared yourself by not stating he wasn't "that guy" LOL If it makes you feel better, I pulled up to someone that was in their front yard and yelled there name like three times and they weren't responding and I was waving frantically at her, so than she finally looks up and says "Where the hell have you been!?" And it wasn't even the person I thought it was and they thought I was someone else, so they came to my car to talk to me and I sped off!!!!! LOLOL It happens to the best of us!

Oh you guys make me feel so normal LOL. I have made this major boo boo before too. It was at a local Mall and I thought this lady was my high school friend. I said "Well Hello Karen where have you been so long" she looked a little shocked but told me hello then went into her life story since graduation. I told her mine and then said "Oh by the way did you and Wayne stay together" She looked so shocked and said "who is Wayne"? We had talked together even went to the food court and had coffee and until that last remark I thought I had the right Karen! She was Karen just not the one I went to school with. We laughed and then she said "I didn't recognize you and I felt so bad." I think that was about the biggest boo boo I have made. LOL

ROFL! I love it!

Your story reminds me of another little escapade my Hubby and I had oh ... about 15/16 years ago. This invitation arrived in the post - very posh - inviting us to a christening. Only we hadn't a scooby-doo who the proud parents were. We didn't recognise his name or hers and the address wasn't familiar either - it was a town about 30 miles from here. So we deliberated for a while and curiosity and a warped sense of humour got the better of us so we accepted :-) A few weeks later we made the trip to the Christening full of anticipation and when we got there, Hubby realised that he DID know the guy... but he'd only met him briefly at a business meeting about two years previously. Hubby was astonished that the guy remembered him - let alone that he saw fit to invite us to his child's Christening! It later transpired that practically all of the guests at this Christening were people that the couple barely knew - in fact, they were really omething of a mystery couple. It was all rather fascinating actually but not unenjoyable - the festivities lasted all day long!

Incidentally, we never heard from them again!

Sounds like South Georgia wedding and baby showers, the invitations come and you try to figure them out but better yet is if they call to invite you and you go through their entire family tree to find who they are. I have gone to showers and did not know a soul there! Just dropped my gift had a spot of tea and left. I figure maybe they needed the gift LOL. This just makes me think of funny things guess they make life worth being LOL.

Do you know, I don't think it was anything to do with receiving gifts. The guy had a title which he didn't use on the invitation - if he had, Hubby would have recognised his name. i.e. like if his name was Captain James Pugwash, the invitation was from "Jimmy and Helen". However, I don't think he had many friends. I think what happened was that they wanted to have this big posh christening but didn't know that many people so they literally invited everyone who had a first and second name and whose address was listed in the telephone directory! They had a pipe band and everything at this do and they'd hired a castle for the meal - it was very grand. But I think most of the guests were invited as "extras" LOL

As I said, it wasn't unenjoyable and the baby was adorable!

Well Thank You! Cooking has always been a natural to me, I love trying recipes but when I go to cook it is usually just ole' southern influence that guides me. Biscuits is the one thing that intrigues me, five women can makes biscuits with the exact same flour, buttermilk and shortening and none of the biscuits will look nor taste the same. Explain that one to me, it is as mysterious as the Fountain of Youth lol. So glad you enjoy my offerings to this wonderful restful place.

No honey, that is the wonderful thing about being the Resident Chef here~~I take all the calories out with my super calorie zapper. all that southern good real butter and cream and good oil to fry the chicken and the fried green tomatoes and next to No calories!!!

See I knew I could tell you this when I saw your avatar was 'when pigs fly' lol just as sure as they fly I took those worrisome calories OUT.

Anyone for a strawberry flambe?

A heap of strawberries halfed and tossed in a pan on the stove in a mix of brown sugar, brandy and cherry liqueur for about 3 minutes, then lit up on the way to the table. Watch the flames, inhale the aroma and taste the taste. Served on a couple of plain and slightly sweet BIG biscuits of choice, with whipped cream on the side. The jus from the pan will take care of the rest. Yum. :)

Does that go with the lemon drop? I know it goes with the sunset on the lake :)

Edited to add: in our case it's a creek... LOL

You probably do know the answer as I dont think there would be anything about cooking that you dont know!!!

But, I believe a main reason that biscuits dont come out the same is largely due to whether the shortening melts (gets warm) during the mixing process. So by refrigerating the mixture, more consistancy in result should be achieved. Things that effect shortening is over handling or warm weather on the day. Oven temperature is a huge variable too.

I have a great recipe for Double Tree Hotel chocolate chip cookies that I can post if anyone wants me to. It is a recipe that I got from the web.....a site called foodgeeks.com. My main favourite cooking site is Recipezaar.com. I also frequent some amazing food blogs for the food pictures (porn???). Now I know that I can just hang out here and get my food fix. Irl, I am a poor cook and have never had guests my whole married life (that I cooked for!).

As a baker, I eat everything I bake till its gone, so I have to limmit this dangerous activity!!!!

I have not seen nor heard from her in days and maybe even a week. She keeps a candle lit for Tara but I have seen no post. Dallas still worries me I do wish we could hear from her. And if froggy don't hurry and get back this place will be so changed froggy will flip.

Maybaby's last post was on the 23rd, but not on this thread. Dallas still hasn't posted anywhere.

I think, if people are going to be gone for a few days, they need to ask in advance if it is okay with everyone else, that way we know where they are, and we won't worry. Agree?!!

On another note, is there something else for dessert besides chocolate? Believe it or not, I hate chocolate. Can't even gag it down. Could I please have something else?? Would that be asking too much of Jeeves to whip something non-chocolate up??

These do look amazing and I need to do cookies this week so I will try them, thanks Sharon. I note the recipe using lemon juice that is new to me and chocolate chip cookies.

I do love recipes and cooking lol even though most of the time I don't use recipes.

Zoey, the lemon juice is there for very good scientific reasons. Being an acid it reacts with the baking agents to make the cookies rise! So use real lemon juice. The taste is not affected. I like to use dark chocolate and walnuts in this flexible recipe. BTW, the mixture weights a ton by the time you mix it all together......thats all the good, quality ingredients....pure bliss. The mixture seems to last a few days in the fridge.

I look forward to your comments. Mind you, what choc. chip recipe could anyone not like?????

Hi Choc and Everyone! :seeya:

Come to my house and I'll fix you a feast, including decadent tasting desserts, all either fat free or very low fat and calories. I fool family and friends all the time into thinking their eating something sinful.

I've been cooking fat-free/low fat for many years, before it ever became popular. Since I was a little girl, I've always loved to cook and bake all kinds of foods, and for years I've been converting high calorie, fat laden, recipes into low fat, low calorie ones and no one has ever noticed the difference.

Ever gone to a restaurant and seen a selection of desserts which were so good, you wish you had room for them all?

Well there's a restaurant in Edinburgh called "The Witchery" and one of their dessert selections is..... a teeny portion of each of their desserts on one plate! It's wonderful. Just a mouthful of about 9 different amazing desserts.

I recommended this restaurant to a poster who was making a trip to Scotland and she agreed it was well worth the visit!

Here's a scottish recipe for those with a sweet tooth (and I MEAN sweet tooth):-

Scottish Tablet

1 can of condensed milk
2lb sugar
knob of butter (about a tablespoon)
1/3 of the condensed milk can of whole milk

Put all the ingredients into a thick based pan on a low-med heat and allow them to melt and slowly come to the bubble. Then stirring frequently, simmer until the mixture turns light golden brown and starts to crystalise around the edges of the pan. You can do a water test for this stage - remove a teaspoonful and put it in cold water to see if it will set.

Now the crucial part (if you don't do this correctly, you'll end up with toffee or fudge instead of tablet)

Remove from the heat and beat with an electric hand whisk until the mixture becomes heavy and is trying to set. It usually takes 5-10 minutes. The mixture should be looking slightly crystalised.

Turn into a greased or lined swiss roll tin.

Before it cools, mark into bars. This makes it easier to break up later.

Tablet is very popular in small portions to have with coffee after a meal or in large portions for greedy people to scoff at any time :-) It melts in the mouth. You can buy commercially made tablet, but it isn't a patch on real homemade tablet. There's a woman in our town who makes absolutely the best tablet and she lives in a very run-down part of town. A couple of local shops sell her tablet and it always sells out immediately! The secret is in the beating.

Gacountry

The Ross clan come from a beautiful part of the country (Rosshire/Ross and Cromarty/Easter Ross). We had our honeymoon in Dornie - home of Eilean Donan Castle which is reputedly the most photographed Scottish castle.

http://www.doughoughton.com/webpage/page/page102.html

There are variations of the tablet recipe but the above recipe always gives me a good result. As I said, the success depends on the beating of the mixture. If you don't pull it off the heat and give it sufficient beating, you'll end up with fudge or even toffee. Tablet has a melt-in the mouth texture and it's always extremely popular at fetes and fund-raisers. It usually sells out first. It's like nothing else. My Canadian friends and relatives go mad for it and I've had to give lessons to quite a few of them!

It's also a welcome birthday present believe it or not. People who are good at making it quite often take orders to make it for someone's birthday or Christmas. My friend used to win prizes for her tablet and so did my sister. My tablet is quite good, but I've never entered it for a competition. Although we all use the same recipe, there's a knack to making it so it can turn out differently.

When you make it, the kids fight over the scrapings of the pot.

Here's a webpage that gives precise instructions. It looks pretty much the same recipe that I use but she puts her mixure on at a med-high heat to begin with (I do mine more slowly):-

http://scruss.com/tablet.html

Here's another page with a great photo of what good tablet should look like:-

You may have heard of the terrorist attack at Glasgow Airport and how bystanders dragged the two terrorists away from the blazing car and started punching and kicking them? Well here's one of these bystanders.

His interview was broadcast around the world and he became an national hero with his own tribute website:-

"Here's to John. This man shows us that the law-abiding, honest, brave citizen is still very much with us," the site proclaimed.

"Here's to his heroism, his straightforward belief in right and wrong, his support for law and order, and his willingness to give a good kicking to someone richly deserving it."

I daresay that American's would have had difficulty understanding John Smeaton as he described the events at the airport. With typical Glasgow enthusiasm, he waved his arms about and said:-

"Ithoat'that'snoright'anranovertaeassist. Awthatwisgoan threwmamindwisI'vegoattaehelpthepolis,I'mno ettinthaeguysgetawehwithis."

For those of you who don't Parliamo Glasgow, you can read the translation here:-
