Speaking of rep points, why is it that in my User CP some of mine are grey instead of green? Do the grey ones mean something different?

People that already have lots of points give you more points when they had to your rep. Those are the green ones. Those who don't have many yet and give you points don't have enough power to boost you to another level. Those are the grey ones. That's my guess anyway.

Once upon a time, there were positive and negative rep points. In order to keep vengeful folks from taking on a new nic just to flame others, new posters must make 50 posts before their points count. Green was for positive rep, red for negative, and gray for newbies. The negative rep caused serious issues and was done away with. So, now there is only green and gray.
Hope this helps! :seeya:

I was thinking about starting up a "cheese and WHINE" thread because I'm SO HOT! I hate this. I really feel for people that don't have air conditioning. At least we have one of those whole house fans, but it's still hot. And it's only been 24 hours without my comfort. I'm such a baby but I did want to whine.

I could always talk about this miracle baby in my avatar. She's my granddaughter. That picture was taken this past Monday and she is 3 months old. She was born April 3rd. She wasn't due until June 25th. She had her evaluation today and the therapist said that in some things she tests at a newborn level but for others she actually tests at the 2-3 month level. Yes, she is a miracle! O.K. So now I've done my whine and my brag. Now I'm out. I've got nothin'.

I understand. I used to live in a very humid area but now that I am close to a large lake we always have the breeze coming and only need fans. I really hate humidity. I do not feel like I can breathe. And it makes everyone cranky.

We have two dogs and two parrots who are staying behind. We don't kennel/house them. We hire someone to take care of them here. So we had to get it taken care of anyway. Plus the family in town might want to hang out here. We have a pool so it's a popular spot in the summer.

The last time we went to Mt. Rushmore we couldn't see it because it was in the clouds. Fortunately we planned two days there and when we went back the second day, it had cleared up and we could see perfectly. We went to visit caves on the cloudy day.

My Blue & Gold is a big baby...a friend of mine gave him to me...never thought I'd like a bigger bird and if I'd known what a great personality he has, I probably never would have bought the other two...The Amazon is a screamer and the Grey picked it up plus he tends to be real nervous and a bit snippy...My macaw is definitely my favorite, but they're all my babies and I don't know what I'd do without them...:seeya:

The Senegal speaks very clearly but is shy and won't talk around strangers. The macaw is sort of like a 2 year old. I know what he's saying but others don't understand him. He says "goodnight" VERY clearly when he wants us to turn out the lights and go to bed.

Hello from Sioux City, Iowa! It was a long day in the car and we are now rewarding the 7 year-old boy with some time in the pool. (He needs to work off some energy after being cooped up in the car all day.)
Travel tip: Make sure you stop at a rest area right before going into Illinois and wait until you get back out of the state before you try another one. It was the WORST! I have been in outhouses that didn't smell that bad. *End of public service announcement*

Anyone ever had any luck taking a short-notice vacation in the OH, KY, IN, PA, IL, MI areas?
We have one open week and need to pack 3 kids and ourselves into the car.
Lake Cumberland came to mind but it is really expensive. Chicago was the only other place I could think of but I'm not sure that there is enough there to keep the youngins occupied for several days.

I've been to Chicago and like it a lot ,too.
I could spend days there wandering around the museums but my wife is more into the Navy Pier type of thing (you know - where you can spend some real money :) )
Just kind of a dilemma for me - looking at the Kentucky Horse Park, Mammoth Cave, Chicago.
Maybe we'd better do some better research and wait till next year! :)

Lake Cumberland came to mind but it is really expensive. Chicago was the only other place I could think of but I'm not sure that there is enough there to keep the youngins occupied for several days.
:)Several years ago we attended a family reunion in Ohio (drove from Arkansas. . . that was a long trip!). Sandusky is nice with Cedar Point and all.

*End of public service announcement* Glad you made it to iowa! :hat: Congrats on 50+ posts!!!

What y'all doin? My book is getting heavy too; can i put it down for a bit? I'm tired of carrying this book!!
I was weeding and decided that the arugula smelled like a skunk and it was pulled up and DX'd. I'm tired of sleeping next to that arugula skunk smelling green plant. Purple lettuce is one thing. Cilantro is fine by me as well even tho it has it's own distinct smell. :o

I too, love the show “House”
What truly makes me laugh is that House is a real surname~!!
I was researching my Mead family from Ohio and found an 1870 Census record that has 2 men living with them. One listed as a Carpenter. The Carpenter would only reveal his first initial….
So the carpenter was listed as ~A. House~
I am sure this man had a lot of fun with his name and profession~!!! :D

She's so cute! I find it incredible that the survival rate for premature babies has risen so much.
If a baby is born at 27 weeks the survival rate is now 90%.

My kitty is sick.... :-(
Day before yesterday we took our cat to the vet because he was seriously constipated. He had a severe blockage but with enemas they did get some of it broken up and they kept him overnight and had him on an IV. He would not eat or drink at the vets so they told me to bring him home and maybe he would here since he would be more comfortable at home and if not, to force feed him. Well he still won't eat or drink so we are doing it with a syringe but the poor fella still isn't going potty.
DH called the Vet yesterday and the Vet was "well we should have done this and should have given you this and we should have done blood work" and DH is like well why the fk didn't you?
They did NOT do a 2nd xray to see if all the blockage had come out, they did not send home with a laxative, like the vet said on the phone they should have. Ummm...he's the one that tells them to do that not the receptionist!
So, we talked to a dif Vet this morning and we are taking him to their office tomorrow morning. They said he should have been given pain pills and a laxative after what he went through on top of the amoxycillion. <sp?>
Please send some good thoughts for my Hannibal (Yes, named after Hannibal Lector ;-) )

Morning Barbara 2!
I live in a medium sized town, average crime rate in England. We used to have lovely views of the countryside but they are forever building more houses.
However, once I woke up to a fox in my garden! My daughters were quite insistent in trying to invite this fox inside!! I had to explain that our hamster might object to a fox in the living room!
Have a lovely day!

I spoke to my niece who is a vet. She was quite shocked about the vet's attitude and said you should contemplate looking elsewhere.
She also mentioned enemas and also loose liquidy food as opposed to dry. Also has Hannibal been tested for thyroid?

***Kitty Update***
Kinda long, sorry. :-)
Well this Saturday morning he had a good dump and even took a drink of water on his own. We went to his appointment with a new vet at 9:00 and were the until 11:30. She (the new vet) was fantastic! Very thorough, did blood work, xrays, gave him a shot for pain, 3 different meds and a laxative to bring home.
When he was put on the table she gave him a few kitty treats which he ignored at first then all of a sudden he wolfed them down. *lol*
Blood work was great except for a couple very minor things which she said one is because of the inflamation and one is because he was so stressed out but even with those she said she was impressed at how well his blood work results were. Liver, kidneys all good, no diabetes or anything like that.
Xray looked great since he had those 2 dumps and that seemed to have pretty much cleared him out. She was really upset that the other vet had released him not knowing for sure he was clear. She was upset about some past things they had done there too after she read his chart. (Like giving him his rabies shot while he was knocked out when he was being neutered and using an anesthetic that hadn't really been used in about 20 years because there are newer ones much more reliable.) She also said that the dosage of laxative they gave him while he was at the other place was not enough to really do anything and that the amoxcil they sent home with him was not a high enough dosage either.
She also said that she does not believe it is megacolon (which the other vet told dh on the phone it was even though he barely looked at the cat) and she said the other vet should not have told us it was since this is the first time the cat has been constipated and without more extensive testing.
He still has not peed but she thinks it's because he's been in so much pain that he might be afraid to try and that she thinks he will do it probably today because his bladder was getting pretty full.
They gave me some samples of medi-cal dry and I bought a few cans to see if he likes it. Gave him 1/4 c of the dry when we got home and he chowed down on it and ate half of that before he stopped. The difference between today and how he was yesterday is amazing!
I'm sure there's lots I'm forgetting but I think I covered most of the major stuff.
It took 2 vets and $500 that we couldn't afford but it looks like my baby is gonna be ok!!!!
This morning he is looking fantastic and is eating pretty good. :-)
Thanks so much for your good vibes and suggestions everyone!

It's funny the size differences they can have from the same litter. Hannibal and his siblings were throw away kitties. Literally thrown out of a car. We gave away 3 of the 5 and we ended up keeping Hannibal and his sister (named Clarice of course ;-) )
We had to give Clarice away about 4 years ago because we didn't have the money to get her and Hannibal "fixed" at that time so it made sense to give up the one that could have babies. I still miss her terribly but she went to a good home.
I've always loved cats but Hannibal is so totally different from any other cat I've had in the past. :-)

(Like giving him his rabies shot while he was knocked out when he was being neutered and using an anesthetic that hadn't really been used in about 20 years because there are newer ones much more reliable.)
