His answer was they had bars...and we asked what else...answer: alcoholics...I think he might have stayed in Newport just a little too long! :D

The welsh don't wear kilts :-) They are good fun though. When there is a rugby national in Scotland, they literally invade the place and the locals in every town love it because they are so jolly and they sing! The welsh are terrific singers. I've often wondered if there is something about their genes or their accents which makes them such good singers. They fill the pubs and they sing and they are always an entertaining attraction for the local people.

We have friends who enjoy it so much that they follow the welsh rugby just to soak up the singing and banter. They aren't welsh, but they follow the welsh rugby fans all over europe!

There is little evidence that the Welsh ever wore kilts (cilts) historically. Welsh tartans and Welsh cilts are modern inventions. Nevertheless, our Welsh tartans are still a very popular choice for those of Welsh descent who want to wear a historic style cilt, so we have made them available!

Well they might wear them nowadays - but the kilt is traditionally associated with the Scots. Up here in the Highlands of Scotland, it's still quite commonplace to see men and boys wearing the kilt. Not so common farther south.

Hey Judi! I want to hear more about your job...you're really a prison officer? Do you work with male or female inmates? What type of crimes have they committed?

:seeya:

hey there maybaby! how are ya? well i work with males and really there are men i work with that have committed all sorts of crimes and also men who are just on trial for those crimes and they are all together! I dont think too much about what they are in for even though it can easily be found out. You do tend to lose your stereotype-thinking though, i have the biggest, hardest looking men in for like fraud/driving offences and skinny looking men in for murder/rape etc. I dont think our prisons are quite like yours for example there is not a shackle to be seen in our prisons lol My prison has all types of offences but the most 'dangerous' prisoners are sent to more higher security prisons. Ive actually got another job within the prison system and it is working directly with drug offenders helping them get out into the community and stay off drugs so im looking forward to starting that, ill still be working in my current prison.

You are right of course and the men who wear them are real men with nothing to prove! Oddly enough, it's the wimpy types who tend to recoil from wearing them.

Several years ago, my husband and I were on a cruise which mainly consisted of American passengers. You have no idea how much harassment he experienced from American women! I wish you could. Pet behaviour is so entertaining. We have 2 bichons (much to my husband's disgust). One is a textbook bichon in appearance but she only has two brain cells. The other came from a puppy farm and has all sorts of problems - she doesn't actually look like a bichon poor thing. However, she's incredibly smart and learns little tricks easily. The bigger one is just constantly "incredibly happy" and she's enthusiastic all the time - basically because she hasn't got the intelligence to recall past experiences! She does however do something quite comical. She "guards" food. Sometimes when we give them a little dog biscuit, the little one plays with it for a short while and then eats it. Yeah-that IS the same family, but they left out several branches...and the Scots origin, too. My mom has Grandpa Chris's Journal, which states this.

My great-grandfather was Christopher Armstrong Argue, married to Cora Jean Pfouts, children-in no particular order-Florence, Clara, Agnes, Zella, Arlene, Izora, Lenore (my maternal grandmother), Earl, Wesley, Herbert, I hope I'm not missing anyone...Grandpa Chris was a Methodist minister and also worked on the oil wells in Cyclone, PA, and Lewis Run, PA...and the family also took in several orphans. Several of the children were born in Stittsville, Ontario, including my Grandma Lenore.

I'm going to have to scan the Journal and post the info...

Hi Samantha Jane,

I had the same problem. I had ran across another website that had my name misspelled on it. It had many errors. Miss matched spouses as well as not including all the marriages. My little sister being older than me, etc…

I did a little more research and contacted them by phone. They too, insisted that they were right~!! After even longer conversation, I realized I had met these people once, and taken a picture of them in my parent’s home.

You would have thought that after I sent them that picture, as proof, they would have changed their information. BUT NO~!!!!!

They even seemed to screw up the additional information that I had given them, as well as sharing my private e-mail with someone SPECIFICALLY ASKED THEM NOT TOO~!!

Needless to say, it made me mad.:flamemad:

Here is the ironic part, not only is their website full of fiction, the people writing it are TEACHERS~!!!

You would think that a Teacher would want to keep the facts straight~!!!

I agree these people need a good smack :punch:

Yeah-the irritating thing is that I've got the info on Scotland in my great-grandfather's own hand...I have to get his Journal from my mom and scan the pages, then I'm gonna shove them down Deb's throat-via e-mail.

And regarding my maternal grandfather-who's stll alive-why the Hell wouldn't he know how to spell his OWN NAME??? And I lived n his house for 18 years with my mom and grandma-and collected the mail daily...so I don't know how to spell his name, either???

It annoys me to no end when these a-holes put themselves up as experts on geneology, and they don't know s#it, and won't accept correct info from the family members who DO know.

And then telling me that my mom, myself and my daughters AREN'T "legitimate" members of the family...like we were adopted, born out of wed-lock, or there's some question as to who our parents are...

Thems FIGHTING WORDS in just about EVERY family I know of.

I'd personally like to travel up to Ontario and kick some SNOTTY Canuck AZZ.

Maybe that would convince her of our SCOTTISH HERITAGE and get her to amend the family tree!!!

And the sad thing is, living about 10 blocks from the Peace Bridge, in Buffalo, NY, I have LOTS of Canadian friends...they aren''t ALL that way.

My on-line family heritage is just controlled by a JacKAZZ!!!

Dear samanthajane13,

I hope that this census record helps you. I wasn't sure when your family imigrated to america, so I just picked this one.

I also hope that you will be able to enlarge it to read the details.

There are more, but I don't know how much help they would be, since I don't much and what you are looking for.

Thank you, LBC!

I don't know how much help it will be, either.

Actually, the info I'm looking for is the Argue family crest and tartan, and where in Scotland the famly lived-which I've only been able to "locate" on one of those "pay for your family heritage" sites-where you pay for them to send you a scroll with the crest-and what it means, and a picture of your plaid, then you can order mugs, plaques and other assorted dust-collecting crap-ONLY from them of course...which is a crock of you-know-what, because if THEY have access to the info, why can't I find it???

Our family-according to Grandpa Chris's Journal-travelled from Scotland to Ireland around or after the time of the Scottish Reformation-around 1560, from what I can find in the history of Scotland...to escape religious persecution. From what I do know, the family has been Methodist for ages, and when Mary Queen of Scots-a Catholic-took the throne, there was a lot of fear that she would try to restore the country to Catholicism, so I'm assuming the Protestants took that as a BIG HINT to pack up and leave. So the family headed to Ireland.

Or maybe it was that they were Catholic at that point, and didn't want to have to deal with Henry VIII after his divorce...either way, it had to do with the "wrong" religion coming into power, and them leaving the country.

It's a lot to take in, and there's a lot of conjecture, because, of course we don't know exactly when they left, where they came from, etc...there are just too many variables.

We do know that when they hit Ireland, they settled in and around County Cavan, then later moved on the Ontario, Canada, and from there, to the US.

So it looks like, if I want that info, I'm going to have to exhaust a lot of time and effort, but I'll do that before I'll shell out money to some company who may not even be legit!!!

How do I know they aren't just sending me any old plaid swatch and a coat of arms some idiot photo-shopped??

I don't trust them as far as I can throw them.

Any idea where I can get a hard copy of that census report??? Where did it come from???

The top entry is my great-grandpa the second is great-grandma Cora, the third is my Aunt Florence, and the 4this Grandma Lenore!!! Now I have to fnd her Immigration card!!! I know Mom has it...SOMEWHERE!!!

Anyway-even though it isn't the info I need, I'd LOVE to have a hard copy. The .gif is sort of hard to read, no matter what I've done to sharpen it.

Hello Donna,

Isn’t that FUN~!!!

I personally found that one by going to my local library website. I got a library card from that library for this reason and it was free~!!! If I wanted to do more research I would have to go and use the computers at the library.

There are actually many libraries and websites that have the same information. Some of them do charge a membership fee.

Why pay for something that you can get for FREE~!!!!!!!!!

Unfortunately, most of everything that I had on genealogy is saved on my old computer that crashed. What that computer holds on its hard drive, is absolutely PRICELESS as well as irreplaceable~!!!!!!!!

I think that the best place to get a hard copy would be from the National Archives. I think that there are less than 20, but would assume that they have one in New York, (or Two):D

There are also others, some not so complete, and others transcribed and the spelling is a bit off, which makes the information hard to find.

Each census record ask different questions… besides where you are from, read and write, indoor plumbing, own a radio, etc…. but you can get details like what street they lived on, etc…

I thought you would like (the census record) that it shows your grandma as the 2nd born about 1908, not the 5th child.

You might be able to get a better copy from another website. There are also websites that only offer the form with the questions (which are easier to read); I will see what I have printed out, as the forms go.

Anyway, let me know what you come up with… It seems that our families lived in the same countries and came here from different directions… I too, would love to find out more~!!!

Best wishes,
LBC

I know that Grandma was 2nd born...(I was having problems remembering all the aunts and uncles, so I just listed them-by gender-as they came to mind)...and passed away February 7th, 2000.

The year before,we'd had a very special Mother's day. Her 90th b-day fell on May 9th, which was Mother's Day, and it was also the day Katey made her First Communion. So we had a LOT to celebrate!!!

Fortunately I have a son-in-law that is in heating and air conditioning otherwise I'd have to wait a lot longer than 2 days to get it fixed. It would cost a lot more too.

Since we have had some major parties as of late, should we do something relaxing this weekend??? What do you all think?
