WarmNCozy, Your and your family are in my sincere prayers as you grieve the loss of a precious part of your family, your beautiful daughter Allison. We as parents don't expect to out live our children but often times we do and as it changed your life when she was born the news of her demise immediately change your life again though heart broken instead of the joy. WNC treasure the joyful years and hold them dear to your heart.... the wonderful memories will help get you through this horrible and difficult time. Allison is now in the presence of God, as you treasure your wonderful memories also look forward to being with Allison again when God decides it time for you to cross to the other side...Allison is "peacefully" waiting to welcome you when it's that time. We don't have the ability to understand why in this life but God could have sent 10 thousand angels to let you keep her but He was ready to bring her to her enternal home to be with Him and patiently and peacefully wait for you and her loved ones to join her. From one heartbroken Mother to another who has lost a child...with God's mercy we will survive. Much compassion and love :rose: IJM/Fep

How a sinister MySpace predator targeted teen girls
By Dan Herbeck NEWS STAFF REPORTER
Updated: 01/06/08

On his MySpace page, he called himself “sex master Adam.” He said he was 20 years old, and the page featured photographs of a muscular, shirtless young man.

His spelling and grammar were atrocious, but the words on his personal profile page left little doubt about the kind of girls he wanted to meet.

“yes i am from buffalo,” he wrote. “what im looking for are some bad lil girls and when i say bad i mean really bad girls who will do anything i ask them to.”

His MySpace page drew reponses from dozens of teenage girls, some as young as 13. And after communicating with Adam, some of the girls sent him pictures of themselves in the nude, sometimes in extremely lewd poses.

Police recently learned that Adam was really David W. Evans, a 48-year-old cafeteria worker who lived alone in an apartment on Buffalo’s West Side. Cheektowaga police and the FBI arrested him last month, and charged him with coercing a minor to produce child pornography, a federal felony crime.

Six victims have been identified so far, but police believe there may be many more — dozens, possibly more than 100. They are trying to track down other teens whose pictures were found on Evans’ cell phones and computer.

As police continue their investigation and more girls are located, questions are being raised about the victims, too:

• Regardless of how old she thought Adam was, why would any girl send naked pictures of herself to a man she had never met?

• How could the girls’ parents be unaware of what was going on?

• How common is this kind of conduct in the Internet age?

For cops and others studying the case, there are no simple answers.

“There was a progression,” said Cheektowaga Detective Michael K. Hockwater, who broke the case with Detective Terence J. Griffin. “It started out with girls using MySpace to meet a hot-looking 20-year-old guy. Then, he began making demands on them. And then, threatening to do things to them if they refused to send racier pictures. It just got out of hand.”

“I’ll tell you why it happened,” Griffin interjected. “Because their parents didn’t know what they were doing.”

The girls made terrible mistakes, but characterizing them as bad girls would be unfair, said Bonnie L. Glazer and Stefan Perkowski, who work with young sex crime victims through Child & Adolescent Treatment Services of Western New York.

“They’re not bad kids; they’re victims of a seduction by an adult,” said Perkowski, the agency’s program director. “And they’re growing up in an age when you have an explosion of role models like Paris Hilton telling them that this kind of behavior is not only acceptable, but something they should aspire to.”

“We’ve seen many cases where teenagers do things over the Internet without realizing the implications, the trail of information,” Glazer said. “The Internet makes it too easy.”

U.S. Attorney Terrance P. Flynn said he finds the case “very disturbing” on two different levels.

It demonstrates the ease with which sexual predators can misuse the Internet, he said, and it also shows the immaturity and vulnerability of some teens who use social networking sites to make their private lives public.

One person who was not surprised by the Evans case or the teen girls’ conduct is Patricia McLain, a Buffalo community educator for the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.

“I’ve spoken to about 250 different groups in the past two years, and at almost every event, someone tells a horror story about one of the social networking sites,” McLain said. “These sites are misused by bullies, sexual predators and kids posting very inappropriate pictures of themselves.”

McLain said she shares Perkowski’s concern about the influence of tainted celebrities like Hilton. McLain is aware of several cases in which underage girls have e-mailed nude pictures of themselves to boys they “had a crush on.”

Last February, a federal judge in Austin, Texas, dismissed a $30 million lawsuit filed against MySpace by the family of a 13-year-old girl who said she was sexually assaulted by a 19 year-old man she met on the site. The man had falsely told the girl he was a high school senior and convinced her to give him her telephone number.

The judge said MySpace was protected under the Communications Decency Act and cannot be required to verify the age of every user. MySpace officials have said they have worked with the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children on security improvements, including free parental notification software.

“MySpace gets most of the publicity because it’s so big, but there are problems with all these sites,” McLain said. “You can pose as anyone on these sites. None of them verify the information that people post.”

Social networking sites can be used in many positive ways, McLain said. She noted that many soldiers in Iraq or Afghanistan use the sites to keep in touch with friends and family.

David Evans’ crimes went far beyond misrepresenting himself on his MySpace profile, authorities said.

According to the U.S. Attorney’s office, Evans used MySpace to meet teenage girls, and then — while posing as young Adam — got some of the girls to give him cell phone numbers.

“He convinced the girls to send him topless pictures of themselves. Then he’d ask for dirtier pictures,” Hockwater said. “If they refused, he threatened to call the girl’s parents and tell them what she had done, or post all her information and pictures on the Internet.”

Griffin said two girls told police Evans e-mailed them explicit pictures of him, and one girl said he threatened to come and kill her if she stopped sending nude photos.

“One of the girls was petrified,” Hockwater said. “She finally went to her mother, and her mother came to us.”

So far, one victim has been found in Cheektowaga, one in Lancaster, one in the Town of Tonawanda, and three in the Rochester area, police said.
Evans pleaded not guilty in federal court after his arrest on Dec. 18. If convicted, he could face a mandatory 15 year prison term. His attorney, federal public defender John F. Humann, said the girls and their parents also should be scrutinized. He noted that Evans is not accused of having actual physical contact with any of the girls.

“I’m not trying to minimize [the allegations],” Humann said, “but where are these girls’ parents when they’re going on the Internet and sending out pictures of their private parts?”

Flynn said, “This case is a classic illustration of the need for parents to monitor their kids’ e-mail activity. Before they allow a son or daughter to sign up for a MySpace account, they need to talk to them and determine whether they are mature enough to handle it.”

“The Internet world is a mirror of the real world,” McLain said. “There are predators looking to take advantage of kids. Parents need to know that.”

Hi all,
I came here hoping to see a thread about the murder of Maria Lauterbach - the pregnant Marine who was recently murdered by her rapist.
As a former enlisted woman, I'm more interested in finding out HOW they hold the military responsible for aiding & abetting in the MST of this soldier than in the apprehension of the secondary assailant, Laurean. Obviously, the Cpl could not have continued to harass and torment her and finally kill her if the military had taken even the tinyest common-sense precautions.

This is sooo close to my heart because I was in the service 20 years ago and had a similar thing happen to me. It took me 20 years to start talking about it - and since then I have written letters to congress and the president etc... And I have talked to HUNDREDS of other women who have experienced and done the same thing - -
:rose:

Rape and Murder happen every day - - but when our government uses women who have surrendered their FREEDOM and offered their services, trusting in return to at least have a safe place to sleep and work - - when it KEEPs happening decade after decade, over and over again in the same way... One just has to stand up and scream. That's what I'm doing now.
:rose:

For Maria and for all others (largely the black women), who dont get media coverage or relief, who have their credibility ravaged, ...all those betrayed by their country. :rose:

Hey there all you yanks, Canooks and Londoners,

I currently reside in Melbourne Australia, but was born in Toronto. Froggy, your description of the Club Lounge has an uncanny resemblance to a Victorian Terrace House I lived in a couple years ago. The high ceilings, ceiling roses, chandeliers, beautiful victorian staircase..even down to the Burgunday drapes. This house just happened to be built in 1888, ring any bells all you crime buffs? 1888 was the year the Jack the Ripper begun his reign of terror in Whitechapel, and his first kill just happened to be on my birthday August 31st. I ofcourse had no idea at the time I moved in. Even down to the haunting music that was played, I am indeed partial to Bach, but I often played the haunting sounds of Enya and Loreena McKennett, who also by another uncanny coincidence just happpens to be my doppelganger. (According to my brother, mother and ex). I must admit, the resemblance is rather remarkable. Are you sure you didn't astral project to Australia one windy night? The house itself wasn't haunted, but it had a powerful aura and I always felt like a princess playing a role while living there. But alas, I live there no more, (ran out of my inheritance), C'est la vie and all that rubbish. Also, I have some rather interesting information regarding the Zodiac, which I posted, but also, Ramirez got into Satanism by meeting Anton Levay. I recently found out that his name was actually Ricardo Leyva, any connection do you think? I do. As Carl Jung said, there are no coincidences.

Isn't it awful? The nurse was convicted of killing 4 elderly ladies with insulin and attempting to kill a 5th. I heard a short clip of one of his police interviews yesterday which was interesting. This is paraphrased but along the lines of what was being said:-

Police: "I am telling you as fact that there was this massive amount of insulin in the ladie's body and that this same amount of insulin was discovered missing from the medicine store"

Norris (very calmly): "I hear what you are saying, but surely if someone administered such a large syringe to a patient, the patient would tell someone else or simply ask 'What is this for?'"

Police: "But what we are saying is that this did happen - not "if". The insulin was in her body"

Norris: "I hear what you are saying but I think if anyone had given her this, she would have said something..."

As I said - this is NOT a transcription. I was listening to it on the radio whilst driving and it's paraphrased. He was answering the questions without actually answering any questions. The police officer described him as extremely arrogant and said that he had been arrogant in court too and that it wouldn't have done him any favours.

Re Jersey. Jersey is one of the Channel ISlands. I think it's closer to France than England but is part of the UK. It was occupied by the Germans during WWII and has its own legal system. That is so sinister. I think there is no doubt that the children were badly treated there - and that some may have been sexually abused but they were saying on the news yesterday that it's not an absolute certainty that the fragments of child bones is from the home and that they may have been brought in with building materials. I got the impression that the earlier description of it being a "child's skull" were exaggerated and that it may only be some fragments of skull.

I think a lot of it has been sensationalised. I'm not making excuses or trying to minimise the horror, but we all know how tabloids blow things up. I think we have to remember that the huge "rugby" bath was from a bygone era. Where now it would be considered unseemly (even kinky) to bathe children en masse, it may have been a practical option 80/90 years ago. I've seen how the tabloids exaggerate and often even get things blatantly wrong through the McCann case and it has made me very cynical about practically everything I read now.

Hi all! Welcome Louisevirgo777,
I am from Australia too and we are a rarity around these parts lol! It'll be great to ahve another to discuss crimes closer to home with as well. Interested to hear your ideas on Ramirez and the like, I posted a fair bit at one time on his thread but have slacked off a bit lately.
I love the sound of your old house, what a blast!

Hey Sharlock!!

"Daffodils" (1804)
I WANDER'D lonely as a cloud

That floats on high o'er vales and hills,
When all at once I saw a crowd,

A host, of golden daffodils;
Beside the lake, beneath the trees,
Fluttering and dancing in the breeze.
Continuous as the stars that shine

And twinkle on the Milky Way,
They stretch'd in never-ending line

Along the margin of a bay:
Ten thousand saw I at a glance,
Tossing their heads in sprightly dance.
The waves beside them danced; but they

Out-did the sparkling waves in glee:
A poet could not but be gay,

In such a jocund company:
I gazed -- and gazed -- but little thought
What wealth the show to me had brought:
For oft, when on my couch I lie

In vacant or in pensive mood,
They flash upon that inward eye

Which is the bliss of solitude;
And then my heart with pleasure fills,
And dances with the daffodils.

By William Wordsworth (1770-1850).

From Wordsworth's Imitations on Immortality from Recollections of Early Childhood:

Then sing, ye birds, sing, sing a joyous song!
And let the young lambs bound
As to the tabor's sound!
We in thought will join your throng,
Ye that pipe and ye that play,
Ye that through your hearts to-day
Feel the gladness of the May!
What though the radiance which was once so bright
Be now for ever taken from my sight,
Though nothing can bring back the hour
Of splendour in the grass, of glory in the flower;
We will grieve not, rather find
Strength in what remains behind;
In the primal sympathy
Which having been must ever be;
In the soothing thoughts that spring
Out of human suffering;
In the faith that looks through death,
In years that bring the philosophic mind.

CHOCOLATE

Chocolate, the very word
Melts in the mind
Slips off the tongue, sweet
Chocolate

Chocolate, the very thought
Brings a smile,
Delicate, dark, milk to light
Chocolate

Chocolate, the very notion
Heightens our devotion
Taste buds tingle for
Chocolate, chocolate,
Chocolate!

I'm a bit confused myself. I thought CL would cease to exist entirely after the first of the year. Then it was posted that parts of CL would remain, but the board would be closed. Now Hotwater claims that the boards will stay open.

I don't know what anyone else is doing, but David Lohr (my fav CL writer) is going to be posting his news at FW's new community -- 320sycamore.com -- and I plan on moving over there also. It seems things are a little too unstable here and no one knows what is going to happen. FW is the absolute BEST moderator here and where she goes, I go. Wow. That is weird. Sad that some felt that this community revolved around any one person (especially those that thought it did around themselves lol!). :( We're a community folks, that should mean that the people make the place, not one individual. IMO in time we will get back some of our old regulars. No matter how well intended, ego driven ventures usually turn people off in the end. JMHO :patriot:

We were told this board would be closing, but didn't. And, probably won't.
Also heard ColdWater would be leaving CTV/IS, but that didn't happen either. *sigh*

I thought 320Sycamore was Freshwater's, on her own. If "the folks behind 320 still control the boards here" then they must be part of the "team" I've heard about on 320. So, WHY were we lied to? What is there to gain? All I see is so much for that "team" to lose. How sad.

It very well could be since all FW's posts were deleted. Who knows? I've been lied to and deceived. I enjoy David Lohr's articles a lot and he has been very mistreated. THAT is what matters.

Besides, if you click on FW's name and try to go to a post, there aren't any.

If FW still has some control here why did her posts go poof??? Is there some fighting going on behind the scenes???

No, actually if you click on Freshwater's name in the thread about limiting smilies in posts (for instance), you get deputydi's information as I posted earlier.Isn't it nice that we can all have our own opinions.

Isn't it nice that we can all have our own opinions.

HUH?

Opinion:

1. A belief or conclusion held with confidence but not substantiated by positive knowledge or proof: "The world is not run by thought, nor by imagination, but by opinion" (Elizabeth Drew).
2. A judgment based on special knowledge and given by an expert: a medical opinion.
3. A judgment or estimation of the merit of a person or thing: has a low opinion of braggarts.
4. The prevailing view: public opinion.
5. Law A formal statement by a court or other adjudicative body of the legal reasons and principles for the conclusions of the court.

Fact:

1. Knowledge or information based on real occurrences: an account based on fact; a blur of fact and fancy.

2.
a. Something demonstrated to exist or known to have existed: Genetic engineering is now a fact. That Chaucer was a real person is an undisputed fact.
b. A real occurrence; an event: had to prove the facts of the case.
c. Something believed to be true or real: a document laced with mistaken facts.
3. A thing that has been done, especially a crime: an accessory before the fact.
4. Law The aspect of a case at law comprising events determined by evidence: The jury made a finding of fact.

Have you clicked on Freshwater's name?

Oh, okay. Didn't think so.

It's high time that we had some answers. . . there has been mention of missing threads. On the Dirksmeyer forum Nona's condolence thread was deleted around the same time that a thread for her appeared over on 320. Can anyone tell me if it might have been the same thread? FDInLaw I have no idea. Find the closing threads frustrating in may ways because of all the information but at the same time some of the posters were really bashing. I think they thought CrimeLibrary was closing and had no moderator so they let loose. It was quite bad at times. IMO

It seems this is the happening place to be. I was not aware this site was still here until I received a Birthday Greeting. It is very lovely that you have maintained a board that I thought had expired. You should all be commended for this excellent dedication to the cases you are instrumental in. I observed the vast amount of you have formed lasting friendships with your slippers and daily fun activities, This is much needed in forums that carry High Profile Cases. I am delighted to see this forum is still up and running.
