Does anyone have any information about this particular homicide? I've done a lot of searching online and it has been fairly successful but hasnt answered some questions I've had. I know that Kevin Cooper has been incarcerated for some time for this crime and that their was one survivor, Josh Ryen, the son. Where was the home located in Chino Hills? Is this home still standing or has it been demolished? What has happened to Josh since the murders? If anyone could provide any insight I would greatly appreciate it.

I know a great deal about this crime, as I went to school with one of the school-aged victims.

The crime scene was on English Rd. in then unincorporated Chino Hills.

Last time I was there (which was like a decade ago), it looked like some remodeling had been done, but the home was still there.

Josh is now in his thirties, and by all accounts has turned into a pretty great guy considering what he's been through. Last I heard, he lived in Orange County, worked construction and enjoyed surfing. A few years ago, he spoke out about the crimes publicly for the first time. Until then, he had waited for the appeals process to take its course and for the DNA tests (which further proved Cooper's guilt) to come back.

Any other questions?

Nope.... He was scheduled to be executed in 2004 (then, already 21 years AFTER the crimes), but he is very much alive, thanks to Mike Farrell, Jessie Jackson, and the 9th Circuit Court of appeal.

I take it he's on DR so no chance of him getting killed in the general population either. :cuss:

Yes... Still at San Quentin's Death Row. And an absolute DARLING of the Socialist Left and Anti-Death Penalty gang.... I'm fairly respectful of the system, its long, and slow, (I was 12 when the crimes were committed, I'm 37 now...) and I respect people who oppose the death penalty on principal... What I have a problem with is when those people LIE, and TWIST the facts to try to prove this ANIMAL is INNOCENT, which he is not....

Personally, I think that anybody who takes up the cause of his innocence should put their money where their mouth is.... You want him out? FINE- You have to let him come live with you and YOUR family.... Just for a week... After that he can move to another of his supporters' homes...

Of course, living a week with Mr. Cooper is easier said than done... Mr. Cooper, like clock-work, killed, tried to kill, or raped the residents of the last three homes he was in as a free man, including a woman who took him in while he was on the run from the law.

I'm sure Mike Farrell would re-think his position after a few sleepless nights with Kevin Cooper in his home.

How sad and horrible for Joshua to see that, feel it and live it. So sorry, bless his heart.

Is the final decision in on his case, it seems the last update was in May of this year. I have to say I wondered about the preservative supposedly found in the blood.

Is the final decision in on his case, it seems the last update was in May of this year. I have to say I wondered about the preservative supposedly found in the blood.

EDTA is a preservative thats found in just about EVERYTHING, including cleaners, detergents, hand lotions, Paper products, fertilizer, FOOD, Vitamins, Baby Formula, Cosmetics, Petroleum products, Milk, Soft Drinks and on and on and on.... Yes, it is also used as an anti-coagulant in blood samples. Defense attorneys KNOW THIS, and therefore they roll the dice knowing that just about EVERY BLOOD SAMPLE TAKEN IN THE SHOWS A PRESENCE OF EDTA, EITHER because it is found IN OUR BLOODSTREAMS from the food we eat, or on the products and surfaces that blood samples are taken from...

WE USE 50,000 TONS of the stuff EVERY YEAR in the United States.... Only a fraction of a percent of that is being used to preserve blood samples.

Its EVERYWHERE.... Our environment, our bodies, and even our blood is LOUSY with the stuff....

Having said all that, the amounts found in the blood samples taken from Ryen crime scene are in too small amounts to have come from an EDTA preserved blood sample.... I believe the Court has ruled on this already and dismissed the argument on those grounds.

To believe the "planted blood" theory, one must believe that the police planted the blood drop at the crime scene (which was found very shortly AFTER the crimes were committed- within hours or days) so that a test could later be performed to frame Mr. Cooper- A test which would not be invented until a decade AFTER the crimes were committed.

Further, one must ask "Where did they get Mr. Cooper's blood so that they could plant it at the crime scene?" He was not ARRESTED until nearly a MONTH after the crimes... A VERY LONG TIME AFTER THE BLOOD DROP WAS DISCOVERED and processed. They didn't have his BODY let alone his BLOOD..... So they couldn't plant biological evidence from him even if they were inclined to do so!

It doesnt pass muster.

OOOPS!! I forgot THE BEST PART!!!!

AFTER ALL THIS Planting of evidence, the bloody shirt in question was not even ENTERED INTO EVIDENCE AT TRIAL... IT WAS NOT PART OF THE EVIDENCE USED TO CONVICT COOPER!!!!! It only came into contention because Cooper's defense team wanted the shirt (previously NOT used at trial) to be DNA TESTED BECAUSE he assured him it would EXONERATE HIM.... IT DIDNT EXONERATE HIM! It further IMPLICATED HIM... After all those year of questions as to whether it was even RELATED to the Ryen Murder (it was found on English rd. Some distance FROM the home), low and behold it had the blood of the victims AND Mr. Cooper, and DNA testing confirmed this.... So what did attorneys do??? They raised the EDTA specter because their client just made them spend 5 years, and tens of thousands of dollars testing the shirt promising that to do so would prove his innocence, and ultimately made them look like a bunch of fools.

Rather than throwing up their arms and exclaiming "Darn... I guess he IS guilty after all!" (as Mr. Cooper's private investigator Paul Ingels, much to his credit, did), they didn't let the facts get in the way of their attempts to free this monster.

They should find another poster boy for their anti-death penalty crusade, because a quadruple, child, axe-murderer, rapist, who is guilty as the day is long, aint the guy they should hitch their wagons too.

Yeah, the planting theory didn't seem to hold water, but I could see how they might follow a contamination theory. I remember reading about some blonde hairs in one of the victim's hands but never heard any outcome about them.

Thanks, RomanDad.

Thanks, RomanDad.

The blond hairs are from the victims themselves. Some were struck in the head with a hatchet and the severed hairs stuck to Jessica Ryen's bloody hands.

My sister and I drove up there last weekend. We drove down English Road and then up English Place and on the left hand side there was an old boarded up home with lots of graffiti and stuff. It looked really creepy and seemed like it could have been the Ryen's old home. Do you know if this is the real home? I am not sure if you've seen it, but some say the boarded up home belongs to the equestrian center and is a decoy so people won't go and try to find the real house.

i don't think thats it either. i have gone to that house a few times, but when you look at the pictures from the crime scene, and a modern day map quest, english rd turns into english pl, which curves. according to the map, the ryen house would be further to the right. (these are both pictures from 1983)

What do I think.... I guess I can understand the fascination young people have with stuff like this.... But, with all due respect... Its not entertainment. And Its not a movie.... Real people were brutally murdered... I knew one of them, and his family still lives in the area. Leave the people of English Road alone.
