My computer has been messed up lately. This site hasn't been the problem....it's myspace that's jackin' with me.

Have you emptied your temporary internet files and defragged lately?

I did all that..I will call my internet provider/cable company...few days ago, I purchased a new modem from them..that could be the reason..

Mines loading okay, but it is showing me that there is a page 8 and when I click on it it brings me back to this page (7 on my display). I'm not sure if your post is the last one on this thread or that I can't get the next page.

My condolences to A2M. I just caught up and so sorry for your loss.

Hi Packy..I called my internet provider, I must have spent 4 hours on the phone with the technician troubleshooting...finally he thought he found the problem...he had to change the settings..it's faster now..but he said I should try it for couple of days then test the download and upload speed...I will have to call them back if it slows down again...!

BTW, check your options setting as to the number of posts per page..I have mine set at default settings..

We went with another couple, Anna & Louis. They are having a baby in November.

We rented a Hummer and wore our swimming suits. We thought a volcano in the dead of summer in Hawaii would be HOT, right......WRONG! It was at 4024 feet and we froze our asses off. It was only 60 degrees but after being used to a constant range between 75 and 85.....our systems couldn't handle it.

We missed the sunset on the second night because Brian was still using Kauai time for sunset. Well...it sets 20 minutes earlier on the Big Island. They wouldn't believe me that we were too late. So Louis asked someone, "Did the sun go down?" The look on the man's face was priceless. He had to ask Louis twice to repeat the question. So Brian says, "He wants to know, did the sun go down?" I'm standing there rolling my eyes and shakin' my head. When the man sees me and realizes this is not a trick question, he goes...."Yeah it went down." Like, where else could it have gone....DUH!

Here is a photo...which doesn't do it justice....of the most southern point in the United States. The water is crystal clear.

They say it's not a safe place to swim because the water can become suddenly violent and smash you against the rocks. It looked calm enough at the time I took the picture. However....there is not a sand beach here....the black sand and green sand beaches are not too far away though! You need a 4-WD to drive to them....or a 20 or so minute hike one-way.

The fishing was very interesting at this point....fishermen stand on the rocks and tie a plastic garbage bag filled with air on their line. They toss the bag into the wind and it blows it waaaaaaaaaaay out in the water. Fascinating! You can see all types of beautiful fish swimming around. It's so kewl. I highly recommend Big Island....and the blue guide book The Big Island Revealed. They have one for all the islands. Super informative. OH....and plan on spending at least two weeks if you want to make a dent in seeing the entire island. You'll need one full day in Volcano National Park alone.

We so want to make a trip to Hawaii someday - thanks for that info - I should write it down for future reference.

Now that I look at the pic a bit closer I can see why you wouldn't want to swim there - but it still looks so refreshing.

Fla. Man Stabbed, Injured By Catfish

DESTIN, Fla. -- A fight between two Destin friends ended painfully for one man when he was stabbed with a fish.

Police said one of the men threw a catfish at his 22-year-old friend Monday during the argument.

The fins went in about three-quarters of an inch and stuck in the unidentified man's back.

Lifeguards cut the fish away and the victim was taken to a hospital. His condition was not reported.

The stupid airline is requiring a note from my doctor stating that Buddy is an "emotional support animal" before they will allow him to ride in the cabin with me from Hawaii to the mainland. :flamemad:

Tomorrow I will walk with Buddy in his carrier to the neighborhood clinic to see a doctor I've never met. He has to write a letter for Buddy and me. I'll have to explain to him about all the extreme anxiety it's likely I'll experience while flying unless Buddy can sit with me. Emotional support animals can sometimes predict and indicate to others when their owners are reaching dangerously high blood pressure or other such medical emergencies. I believe Buddy can do this. He will make ambulance sounds if I'm about to have a sinkin' spell. Do y'all have any other creative suggestions for what "emotional support" Cockatiels can do? We've got to pull this off. Buddy already has his ticket from Phoenix to BTR....and it's non-refundable!

DD - this little story is true:

I had my Gretchen for 15 years, a shepard. She and my child literally grew up together. When she was 14 we moved into this bigger house, my child was 12, and I thought it'd be the perfect time for a new puppy. I brought home Lucy, a Beagle. She was a hilarious terror from the get-go. Just non-stop all day long and Gretchen got the brunt of it, but loved it. One day I heard this MAD howling, non-stop WHOOOOOOOOOO WHOOOOOOOOOO -- I went running downstairs and just fell into a pile of screaming laughter. Lucy stole the electric toothbrush out of the bathroom and by the time she got it downstairs she had somehow turned it on, so there it was on the hardwood floor vibrating and moving, which totally FREAKED Lucy out - but that's how she was 24/7. Like having 6 ADD toddlers in a room! But, as I said, Gretchen loved her and tolerated so much ABUSE from Ms. Lucy, it was genuinely mutal, they were best friends. Well, Gretchen got old, and the day finally came that we had to say goodbye. I remember seeing Lucy off in the background, just staring - she knew her friend was leaving. After that day, Lucy would just lay on the couch and stare at the wall. She had no energy, no appetite. She no longer came crashing to the door when I got home. I swear, I could see her crying. After 6 weeks or so of this, I said I couldn't stand it ONE MORE MINUTE, I had to go get her a new friend. But then, I couldn't do that either - way too soon and disloyal to Gretchen. So then I started playing games with myself: I'll check only 3 papers. I'll accept only a female beagle, under 9 weeks old and under 250.00. My daughter's boyfriend, we'll call him Jon, was witnessing all this distress and confusion, not saying a word. Newspaper #1 had nothing. Paper #2, nothing. Paper #3 - one beagle. Female. 7 weeks old. 250.00. NOW WHAT DO I DO???? I call them, ask a few standard questions...they answer everything right, I say I'll call them back...I hang up. I call them again and said "I'll take her", got directions and off Jon, Lucy, and I went. All the way on the drive I'm telling Jon, "oh this is just stupid, I'm not taking her, I can't do this, blah...blah...blah". Jon is saying nothing. (He knows me well). We pull in the driveway and I turn and say to Jon "let's just be polite and go apologize to these people and tell them we can't take her". He's like "sure.....whatever". We get out of the car, I can hear everyone in the back yard. We walk around and I'm just about to say hi, went this little fuzz ball comes FLYING at me, her tail going so fast it could out spin hellicopter blades, and I SQUEAL with delight, bend over and pick her up - and she starts giving me so many kisses, and I'm laughing away. As this is going on, Jon reaches over and pulls the money out of my pocket - counts it and hands it to the people. I don't even remember saying goodbye, I was IN LOVE!!!! I do remember getting in the car and Lucy was in the back with that deer-in-the-headlight look, "what is THAT?!", LOL!!! Lucy wouldn't speak to the new puppy for a long time. We named her Penny, as in Pennies from heaven. We knew Gretchen sent her to us, it was just so right. Today Lucy and Penny are inspeperable. If Penny can't find Lucy she starts to have a panic attack -panting and crying.

I am not telling you this to influence you getting a new puppy, I'm just telling you because sometimes we think it's not right, but it is exactly right. My Beagles are now almost 7 and 5. We've added 2 chihuahua's too!

PS - do you live near Phila? I work in PA!

What an absolutely wonderful story, TG. Many of my friends have told me that a puppy would help me, but I just don't know. I have taken Pierre's death way harder than I would have ever predicted. I still can't talk about him without getting all teary. I feel his presence everywhere in this house and I don't have words to describe how much I miss him. Shadow is a great comfort -- without her I don't know how I would have coped the first week.

I live near Pgh but my daughter lived in BenSalem for a couple of years before she moved back to FL. I've been there many times.

sorry, got ot:)Hey grasshopper! :seeya: My pleasure to make your acquaintance. I didn't hear that about dogs. How cool! btw, this is not off topic. Our dear Anne, whom I dearly miss and wonder where she is, started this thread so we can post pics, talk about our animals, or blow off steam for whatever reason. It's one of our most popular threads! It definitely brings us all together after fighting about SLP. We all have the common thread of LOVING our animals and families. It's nice to be able to share bits of our personal lives with our cyberfriends. Anne, where ever you are, BLESS YOUR HEART! :rose:

I forgot to tell TG, I rescued a beagle yesterday that was running loose in the neighborhood. My neighbor across the street has one that is an escape artist. Before I left for Hawaii, I chased Bob around the neighborhood a good solid hour and returned him to her house. Yesterday, I cashed in the favor when I talked her into talking the runaway! Bless her heart! She put him in a kennel on her front porch. I could hear him howling away this morning when I woke up. Pray we find his owners. He's not fixed and is a bit skinny. I hope that's not a bad sign.

My wild bird feeders are in bad shape after being gone a year. Have to clean them up and refill them. We have a family of mocking birds nesting in my Lady Banks rose that's over taking my house! I wonder if the mocking birds will enjoy the seeds and suet? Both parents work all day long catching worms and insects for those babies. I doubt the will want any other birds coming to the feeders. Maybe I should wait until the babies are raised.

In case you didn't know, my original avatar was one of my favorite pictures of Pierre -- my current avatar is another fav with an added background. I have to believe in the story about the Rainbow Bridge and this helps remind me.

It is situations like this that demonstrate what caring, compassionate cyberfriends we have on this board. :)

(snip for space)[QUOTE=accordn2me;8927387]Hey grasshopper! :rose: (snip)

Why thank you for a kind welcome here. We were visiting my mom and our son was living there also. He had a mangy, hungry puppy that mom had backed over and broke her hip so hubby picked her up she was ''snarly'' in the jeep and drove back to Atlanta. He took her right way to the vet who cleaned her up,fixed her hip and noticed an extra claw and amber/gold eye with a slit pupil and told hubby we may have a wolf breed. You guessed,he paid for D.N.A. and 100% pure breed. They are not legal her unless you train them to track and register them and I did.

I hand fed her formula and baby cereal from my hand and to this day if my hand or hubby's smell are not on food, she will starve. She is almost human with me.If I'm angry or sad she react's strongly.

I will save the wild critters for next post~~~~~
care to all:seeya:

And now for the soap box

The savage treatment of dog's by football star Michael Vick just sickens me to the core. There are people all around Atlanta saying not guilty!
The F.B.I. has had undercover officers in since 2001! That's how big this operation is/was. We are getting a lot more detaled coverage here and the clips just make me ill.

If Vick is guilty, his punishment should be throwing him a pit of hungry pitbulls.

I'd love to see pics of your wolf. One of my best friend's grandfathers had one when we were growing up. I loved that thing! Great pet. So very smart.

P.S. Where do you get the DNA testing? I'd like to get Momo's done so I can see what he is.

Michael Vick:flamemad:

I will get some pix on disk to share with you soon. Our vet here S. of Atlanta did the dna and no idea what company he used;I'm sure any vet would do it for you.

The rest of the story
Our son was doing some work for a fellow remodeling a very old home(in Tn.)
in the country. He had a female wolf his brother who is not the brightest bulb in the box had felt sorry for in the animal lab in S. Carolina as a janitor. The brother unknowing she had been inseminated by various other breeds as well as wild animals also brought her to Tn. to his brother. My son took pity on the wolf we have because she was injured and brought her home with him.

We called from Atlanta and told him about the dna and he ask the fellow how he got the mother and we knew from that and our son ask for another pup because it was my 40th birthday and he gave her to me. My husband has been her daddy and she is not crazy over me,lol.

Our vet told us unless we registered her as a tracker with the State we would loose her. I worked with her and am still amazed when she lifts her head and starts sniffing the air when a new smell is around. She will not use her dog house even in cold and wet weather;she digs holes and burrows down in them and we have Georgia clay and husband has to towel her down a lot~~~~~~:)

This is my thinking. How anyone could watch an animal be mistreated for six yrs. is beyond me.

When talking to a friend, I reiterated that the FBI wouldn't leave humans to suffer for almost six years.

DD, I am soooo sorry for your loss! I go to an off leash dog park almost every day and I only saw a Papillon there once. He was so adorable! Had more energy than any other dog!

It doesn't matter if the dog is tiny or huge, they are still dogs AND they are a man's, woman's best friend, if treated right. There is nothing in the world like a dog as part of your family!

Paps are a wonderful breed and, until fairly recently, were a well kept secret. They are gaining in popularity and I see them in magazines and on tv commercials more often now than I ever did. I can't tell you how much I miss him and I just can't tolerate animal abusers. My other dog is a sheltie mix who we adopted when she was 4 yrs old. She had been taken from an abusive home and was being fostered by a friend of mine. Her name is Shadow and she is still terrified of just about everything. Why do people do this??????

She got herself in the bucket. The bucket was tipped over and she was playing in it when tipped back up. She would pop up and it would tip over again so she could get out, but then she would turn around do the whole thing all over again. We started to play peek-a-boo like that for an hour and then she snuggled in my lap and fell asleep.

Good advice, TG! The latest model looks much better for Louisiana...bad for Mexico. Of course, it can change again any time. I'm prepared now. Yes I do have a place to go. Can't head out until school is canceled. Hopefully, they won't wait until the last minute to do it if they need to. We'll see if any lessons were learned from 2005.

You are so blessed... even if you are no longer in Paradise, in a REGISTERED boat :D
I'm waiting to hear what the little one brings with him to school tomorrow/today. I can already tell this is going to be a wonderful year for you!!

I'm waiting to hear what the little one brings with him to school tomorrow/today. I can already tell this is going to be a wonderful year for you!!Today he came to school mad. The wet towel and clothes I sent him home with came back just like I sent them. To make matters worse, the AP told me to send a note home saying he couldn't wear the belt he had on any more. He needs a new one. :cuss: Personally, I couldn't care less what belt he wears! And the last thing I'm going to do is piss the little guy's momma off. AP is going to have to handle this one. No, I'm going to buy him a belt. So we had to drag him kicking and screaming, "I AM NOT GOING HOME!" We had to pick him up and put him on the bus and the driver had to hold him to keep him from running off. Poor baby! Someone is being mean to him. His momma works all the time so it's no telling what he's going through. I'd take him in a heartbeat.

Is there a way for the school to check out what he goes home to? If he is being abused, will the school call CPS? Here, if abuse is suspected, it is mandatory that teachers report it.

Here, if abuse is suspected, it is mandatory that teachers report it.We are required by law to report abuse. I'm going to ask the social worker to pay them a visit. He's new to the school, so I don't know what his policy is about doing that. Our old social worker would have gone straight over there. The little boy was absent today so I called to check on him. Grandmother said he missed the bus. :(

Ohhh.......this is not good. So sad. He's only four Acorn? This is a delicate situation. By checking up on his abuser (if there is one), it could very well create more abuse for the child. It will be all his fault.

I have never EVER understood why people go on to do to their children, the very thing they've experienced as children, and rant about for the rest of their lives. There's a better way. I also said my child would NEVER experience some of the things I did as a child, and I kept my word. Not saying it's easy - just saying it's right.

Hi guys! I'm new here and wanted to say hello. I love everyone's animals! I am a HUGE animal lover! And I have several...3 dogs (rottweiler, blue heeler, min. schnauzer) and a horse...they are my life!

How sad about the little boy. I hope everything works out ok for him, I'll keep him in my prayers.

Buddy commandeers the keyboard at every opportunity. :chicken: One new thing since we've been in Louisiana.....I caught a cold when I first came home. I didn't have any tissue (Kleenex) so I put a roll of toilet paper on my desk. I've found that he LOVES to pull it off the roll...just in little tiny bites....but he will FIGHT you if you try to take the roll away from him.

He can't peel the paint because my house is new and the paint is "compatible" with the primer used (unlike in Brian's house where enamel and latex were mixed). He loves chips too. Open a bag of chips and he's your best friend. Try to put them away....he attacks!

Good luck with your painting. New paint can certainly change the atmosphere in a room....and it's cheap compared to other alternatives.

Speaking of our personable pets.....Have y'all seen the video of the dancing bird? View the video at your leisure.....hilarious: (also see the one of Snowball with Huey Lewis, same site): http://birdloversonly.blogspot.com/2007/09/may-i-have-this-dance.html

OMG - that Snowball is beautifull! I can't get over the head rolls in the second link! He's gorgeous! I love animals and birds. LOL

We've two doggies that are like our kids, one cat that's almost the same, but she's more independant, and one newely-acquired goat who's just such a cutie, more like a puppy than a goat. Planning to get more :D

I really enjoyed your videos!

Best of luck with all you're dealing with in your life, A2M. Somehow, I'm sure you'll be fine. :)

Cheers,
Lili

Accord, the videos are way toooo cute.
Thanks for sharing.

Painting is a little boring because I'm going with the same colors. I try to stick with neutrals because every time I have tried experimenting with different colors.....it turns out to be a disaster, and I end up having to repaint.
