PR: Police Investigate Death Of Four Year Old Boy

This afternoon, March 30, 2007, at 1:26 P.M., IMPD officers were called to Community East Hospital, 1500 N. Ritter Avenue to investigate the death of a 4 yr. old male who was brought into the emergency room by his mother. Physicians indicated the child was dead when he was brought in and they were concerned because he had markings on his wrists consistent with being restrained. The child’s mother, Courtney Simpson, B/F/24, told investigators she was asleep in there room at the Inn Towne Suites, located at 2301 N. Post Road, when she woke up and found the her 4 yr. old son, Elijah Simpson, unresponsive. Instead of calling 911, she drove him to Community East Hospital. Courtney told CPS investigators the markings on Elijah’s wrists were caused by his 5 yr. old brother tying him up with a shoelace. Courtney’s boyfriend, Christopher Montgomery, B/M/23, arrived at the hospital and was interviewed. He was later arrested after officers found he had outstanding warrants for robbery. An autopsy is scheduled for Saturday, March 31st to determined the cause of Elijah’s death

An autopsy conducted today, March 31, 2007, on 4 yr. old, Elijah Simpson, indicated he died from a fractured skull. Elijah was taken to Community East Hospital yesterday by his mother, Courtney Simpson, after she found him unresponsive. Doctors say he was already deceased when brought to the hospital and they contacted homicide detectives after finding marks on Elijah’s wrists and ankles consistent with him being restrained with something. Courtney told Detective Marcus Kennedy the marks were caused by Elijah’s 5 yr. old brother who tied him up with shoestrings.

After today’s autopsy, Detective Kennedy confronted Courtney with the findings from the autopsy. Courtney admitted that her boyfriend, Christopher Montgomery, inflicted the injury to Elijah’s head early yesterday morning. She also indicated Christopher hog-tied Elijah with the draw string of a hooded sweatshirt after becoming angry at him for sucking his thumb.

After the interview, Courtney was arrested for neglect of a dependant. Christopher Montgomery, who was incarcerated yesterday at the hospital on outstanding robbery warrants, is being charged today with the murder of Elijah Simpson. Elijah’s 5 yr. old brother was taken into protective custody by CPS.

Is there and word on the arrest if the boyfriend also,since it seem he is the one that did this and she stood back and let it happen. This is very sick. How can a mother let this happen to a child?:flamemad:
