Description of Incident:

Two cousins have been charged with the early morning murder of a Pompano Beach man.

Luis Ortiz Portillo, 28, and his cousin, Roger Ortiz, 25, are both charged with murder in connection with the death of Adaberto Rivera-Bustillo. At 2:26 a.m. (Saturday) the Broward Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call reporting that a man was badly injured at 140 NE 23rd Court. BSO deputies arrived to find the victim, Rivera-Bustillo, lying in front of the residence, beaten and stabbed. Pompano Beach Fire Rescue paramedics examined him and pronounced him dead at the scene.

BSO Homicide detectives questioned witnesses who said that Rivera-Bustillo had been involved in an argument before he was killed. Detectives developed information that Ortiz and Ortiz Portillo were involved and that they were at a nearby location in Pompano Beach. Detectives took the men into custody without incident and both gave statements confirming their involvement in the death.

The investigation revealed that Rivera-Bustillo and Luis Ortiz Portillo were involved in an argument (no particular issue) that escalated to a fistfight. Roger Ortiz produced a knife and handed it to Luis Ortiz Portillo, who then used the weapon to fatally stab Rivera-Bustillo.

Ortiz and Ortiz Portillo were booked at BSO’s main jail where they are being held without bond.
