Is a lesson in parenting to be learned in all this ? Are there parents out there who are not bothered to know what their kids are doing ?
In today's society, kids are exposed very quickly to sexuality, pornography, violence etc... Even violent video games. Does all this add up to educating our children to having no remorse for others ? I say yes !
I will agree with most parents, who will say that you can't control every little thing that kids do. However, being a parent myself I tend to believe that respect is not learned in school. I am one of those parents who were very strict between the age of 1 to 8 with my children and firmly believe that all human values must be instigated and tested as early as possible in a child.
I guess some will disagree. But corrective measures are mistakes that should not have happened. Explaining to your child what can and cannot be done is common sense. These must be well established prior to the child's puberty.
We all rebelled at one point in our teenage years. However I remember thinking what will my mother say if I do that. It's much harder to change somebody's habits(bad habits in these cases) than to do all that is possible so that bad habits are not developed.
I believe in the surveillance of my children as my responsibility. I cannot understand those who will say that rapists and/or killers had very good parents. That's a lot of bull, something went wrong at one point and the parents failed to notice. They may be nice people, they just failed as parents somewhere in their training. Cause that's what parents are supposed to be, trainers in the apprenticeship of their siblings.
For my child's inappropriate actions are also my failures as a parent.
As much as exceptions do exist, I am not a firm believer to all exceptions.
