Perhaps I can shed some light on the subject?
When one chose to alter information in the User CP one could change one's status from "Member" to "Senior Member". This option has since been removed. For a while I had "Member Extraordinaire". Alas.....
It was a board option, now removed, and after reading this thread, obviously for the better.

ITA. BO is the only member I have on ignore. IMO, her signature is totally inappropriate, offensive and disrespectful to the memory of a wonderful woman who was taken from this world way too soon. RIP Tybee:rose:
I don't know BO, can't even say I've run across one of his/her posts. Tybee certainly doesn't deserve any disrespect.

I just found this place to introduce myself by hitting various links and trying to find my way around. I'm Evening 2, aka Eve2 and E2 and in one location I've taken on the name of Wackadoodle  I've been studying the case and researching the McReynolds for ten years now. As most of you know, I began posting at Joshua 7 years ago and then moved on to another forum. I left that forum  in February, and broke my right arm in March so have only recently been able to post anything anywhere. I chose CL after reading at many other places and I'm happy to be here. I'll be happy to "try" to answer any questions you may have regarding the McReynolds. There is an ongoing discussion on the ...Harp... thread. I hope to "see" everyone on one thread or another.

I am having trouble finding information on Chandra Levy. Is there anything on the site about her case? I grew up in DC and was about to move home from college when she disappeared so I followed the investigation pretty closely when she first disappeared. I'm back in DC again, working in marketing, and the story is coming back into the news again since her mother was recently back in town to talk to the new police chief about the case. I'm curious to find some more reliable information about what is and isn't known about her death.
I kind of stumbled across this site looking for information-- there seems to be so much good information on here!

Chandra (http://boards.crimelibrary.com/search.php?searchid=52291) does get mentioned here frequently and there are many who followed the case.

Hello everyone. I am new to this board. Let me start out by saying that I have been a fan of true crime stories for years. I spent eight years working in law enforcement, so very little surprises me. I am excited about being part of the group.
Love you nic! Welcome to the board. Should be interesting with your background too!!!! :)

Hey guys. I'm new here (obviously). I've been into true crime, reading about it, watching it on Court TV, reading fictional books based on crime, etc., since I was a kid. I'm a huge horror fan (also since I was a kid) which is where that comes from. My favorite stories, both real and fictional, are usually centered around serial killers. It's odd, though -- I can read and watch the goriest stuff, but I can't bear to read/watch anything about rape or harming kids. I'm sure that would be telling to a psychiatrist, haha. Who knows what that means.
Speaking of, I especially love to get into the psychological side of crime -- why criminals do what they do, what their childhoods were like, etc. I hardly at ALL think a bad childhood should pardon a criminal, but it at least gives us some sort of insight into why they became the monster they are now.
Anyway, my name's Allison, I'm 22, and I hail from New Orleans by way of Louisville, Kentucky. Nice to meet you all! :seeya:

I have always been interested in crime and used to be a forensic sculptor but I have now moved onto other things as the job was a tad too gory at times and I used to have nightmares in the end.
I am also very intersted forensics, serial killers and unsolved crime.

There was one skull I was working on a few years ago, the person had been found in a make shift grave but there were no reports from the public of a missing person, no dental records or anything so the police had nothing to go on. From the skeletal frame, bone structure of the face I figured that she was definiteley a caucasian woman in her early 20's with a broken jaw and a fractured skull.
Anyway I started to get to work on resculpting her face and during the time I was working on her I started getting these weird dreams about receiving a phone call in the middle of the night telling me to go to my back door.
Whenever I went to my door it was unlocked even though I would lock it every night before I went to bed.
After about the 3rd time this happened I really started to think that I was being followed or that somehow somebody who had lived in my apartment before still had the key so I called a friend and decided to wait up for the person doing this. We sat in the hall lights off looking at the door and we heard the lock turn and ran to the door opened it but nobody was there at all, by this time I was really freaked out, my friend too so I had the locks changed just to be on the safe side.
Anyway next night my friend stayed over and I got the weird dream about the phone call and went to the door and it was unlocked again and this kept happening so I told the police but they could not find anything wrong with the lock and took my details and story.
Now here's the scary part. One night I stayed up late working on the womans face into the early hours when I heard the phone actually ring. I went to pick up the phone and heard a voice behind me and the TV was on. It was one of those late night B movies and this could have been a coincidence but the man in the film was talking to another man and said 'You killed your daughter didn't you? You had a copy of her key made and sneaked in the house in the middlle of the night and then something about trying to make his daughter out ot have a mental problem and forgetting to lock the doors and that the father dumped her body.
After that I gave the skull right back to the pathologist and never took on any more work. The phonecalls stopped and the door remained locked at night. I have never been so scared in my life I tell you.

Hi all, noob here, love this board.
I was hoping someone could direct me to the rules or requirements for book review writing, I cannot find it. :read:
Anyway, hello all, I am a 30 something single mom who enjoys true crime, and am glad to have found such a great true crime forum to post on! Looking forward to getting to know the posters here.
Since I read on average one true crime book a week or so, I would love to review the books I do read. I haunt the used book stores for my library and classic true crime, and the book stores cannot seem to keep enough new ones in stock for my liking!
Thanks for any help on the book reviews, everyone.

Frequently, a new member will want a link to what I think is common knowledge. It is getting harder to fulfill the request especially in the Natalee Holloway forum.
Many links are in old threads and the threads are very long. The SEARCH feature only allows going back a year.
Or perhaps someone knows an easy way to search a thread that is 3 years old and a 10,050 posts long?

Hi Luke..it's a good question..you're right I don't think there is a way to do such search within CL system..I use google..I would search for example for my username and keywords related to the subject I'm searching for...then I click "cached"....

Hi, my name is Tomas. I'm from Sweden. I've been interested in crime/criminals/criminology for so long that I can't remember when it began but I guess 1972/73 could constitute a start as I learned to read at that time.
Read about the 17yo freak that raped an infant. If the guy's a certified pedophile he should be kept locked up until he poses no threat to any other child. I don't know very much about the US prison system but I think that there isn't yet a perfect place to put freaks away at. I don't believe in retribution. It's destructive.
One idea that I've been nursing for some time is "the maximum security society". A village, of some sort, situated in a place so far away from other people that it would be impossible to leave. A place where some of the freaks that society has created could live and work and be subjected to research. I think most freaks are not criminally sophisticated enough to pose any danger to guards or co-prisoners. Supervision could be done electronically and via a gps system that track every person within the village and goes off only when inmates stray to far from their designated area. Electrocution momentarily stunning the person to avoid further flight... the possibilities on that front seem basically endless to me.

I was a forensic scientist for twelve years before switching jobs to Scenes of Crime examination (a cut in salary but well worth it for the more challenging work - and getting outdoors more often). At the forensic laboratory I examined exhibits relating to chemistry and biology disciplines - offences against property (toolmarks, glass, paint, footwear marks etc) and the person (hair, blood, semen and fibres (both natural and manmade) etc). I attended crime scenes (mostly arsons and violence against the person scenes).
I have been soco for well over ten years and have never had a quiet day.
I look forward to reading the comments made on the threads and, if I feel I have anything to contribute, join in on occasion.
Thank you for activating my account and allowing me to join the forums.

I posted an introduction somewhere else and have just found that this thread is obviously the place to post a 'Hello'.
I am still getting to terms with navigating around the boards, there are so many people posting that the 'new posts' list is always a couple of pages long!
My interests are SOCO/CSI and forensic articles.
I look forward to reading the articles and contributing to the discussions.

Hey Guys!
I know I've already jumped into a few conversations, but I thought I'd hop in and introduce myself. I am a 30-some year old housewife from the Antelope Valley, California. If you are wondering where that is, it's about 60 miles north of Los Angeles and a great place to go if you like joshua trees and tumble weeds.
I love crime stories and read this site all the time, as well as the Smoking Gun. I think I've seen every episode of The New Detectives and Forensic Files more times than I can count. Body of Evidence is pretty good too. Maybe I am morbid, but I like reading about criminals and what they are thinking when they commit some of these crimes. Reality is definitely a lot more bizarre than fiction.
Anyway, that is me. I look forward to some great discussions.

Hello all, glad to be here! For some reason, for much of my life, I have had a strong interest in unsolved cases of all types...."Unsolved Mysteries" was one of my favorite shows.....even though half the time it freaked me out.
My husband can't figure out why unsolved cases and websites such as the Doenetwork hold any fascination for me. I can't either, but I am glad to find I'm not the only person out there who is into all this!
I don't claim to even be an amateur sleuth, I just have a great interest, so I don't know how much, if anything, I can contribute. There are several cases that have caught my interest over the years and I am continuously reading up on them, hoping for new information. These are Tara Calico, Jacob Wetterling, Johnny Gosch and Eugene Martin (I'm convinced these two are related somehow, IMO), Marlene Santana, Tammy Lynn Leppart, and Sharon Marshall.
I'm 27, have a beautiful one year old son, married, work in an environmental lab. Also have one geriatric silver tabby cat named Walter Matthau. I love documentaries, natural and holistic medicine, reading....sleeping even.....
I hope to know more of you!

I'm new to the board and just wanted to say hello. I read crime stories, watch the news and participate on a few other true crime sites. The majority of the time, I just read, read, read about current and old crimes that are not yet solved.

Thank you, I will certainly see you soon - so much catching up to do.
It is a fascinating thread.
We sure do. I'd like to see you around more!;)
:)
I start my 'early shifts' this morning, so I should have more time in the evening to get online.
I have been reading the thread every day and the frequent updates are very educational (...and thorough... and plentiful).

I just read this and it scared the Holy Bejesus out of me!!!!!!

I try my best to said a big Hi to the newbies, but I've been pretty busy chasing down news stories and updates.
I think we should have a Welcome Committee to watch out for newbies and let them know we're glad they've joined our community!
Any volunteers???
