View Full Version : Boater? Tabloid re Waterford, Mi.

I forget which thread has speculation about who would use a garrotte. Someone said when they bought a boat they took a Coast Guard class (required?) and learned various knots.
There's also the tabloid article mentioned by Camper at Websleuths, about a sometimes-reliable police informant saying that someone came to him, claimed to be John Andrew Ramsey and tried to arrange a boating accident. I'm not sure if it was in Globe or the Enquirer or what. This was in Waterford, Michigan, near Pontiac, no large bodies of water there. They must have been talking about some regatta in N. Michigan, near Charlevoix. I think this was in the summer of 1996.
Usually there's at least a grain of truth in just about everything, so that may be a pretty good clue that it was someone who was into boating.
Or, maybe mountain climbing or jet-setting to foreign countries where garrottes are still used? Or (D) All of the above?
Somehow the Intruder who was so familiar with the family knew there would be rope in the house. (I usually declare myself an FS, neutral, to keep peace, but leaning more toward IDI.) I think the reason the ransom note was so long was that he was enjoying bragging that he had the power to (1) monitor them, (2) confuse them (3) frame them, (4) kill with impunity (5) impersonate Patsy and maybe John Andrew (Waterford, and sleeping in JonBenet's bed at Charlevoix as if trying on her identity. Uncanny cunning ability to project himself inside another person and be them, as I suppose all actors do. He was fond of movies, characterization, role playing, evidently.
Someone who lives in Charlevoix has said there was a loiterer at the gas station for, I think, a few days, spouting hate propaganda about JR. Could he have been the walker that Barnhills saw, (who resembled JAR and wore a long coat I believe) also the JAR impersonater in Waterford, etc.? We may never know all the details, but there seems to be an overall impression in all this. JMO of the moment, always subject to change if some new fact warrants change.

Not trying to be disagreeable in anyway. Just the way I read it was JAR tried to persuade a friend to assist hiim in a boating accident in which he would jump from the boat just in time however JonBenet would parish. I read the loiter in MI was non other than Shapiro trying to do his thing for the tabloid? So....the similarity in the two stories are stinking enough I thought I'd run what I read past you and see if you thought the two were close enough to merit a further discussion  I have always had some suspicion of JAR. However his alibi seems just pretty solid. Yet I keep coming back to trying to analyze is there anyway he could have been in Boulder for Barnhill who would know him quite well to recognize him. I analyze how long it'd take in a private plane to fly someone back then get them airborne to make the flight back to MI to be routed back to Colorado???? Thats all speculation regarding any of this ....John Andrew was asked what he thought should they find the murderer of JonBenet he said forgiveness. I don't know.....All I am saying is as everything gets hashed and rehashed I find myself going back to the drawing board everytime and rehashing that at least in my own mind.

Wouldn't it have been easier for the killer to wait until the Ramseys got to Mich. to kill/kidnap JB? Geeze, they were flying out there the next day.
The Waterford, MI story re: John Andrew has been proven to be false and I've never heard of anyone from Mich. threatening JR.
I live in Michigan....we keep our murderers confined to Detroit.

Why Waterford? With the exception that Waterford still has a lot of white trash hicks that might stoop to murder, it's no where near Charlevoix.
There are plenty of lakes in Michigan, it has more lakes then any other state.

Maybe we are on opposite sides of the Jonbenet case, but I too have a Michigan connection. I used to work in Ishpeming at the Ropes Gold Mine in 87 &88[it suffered a catastrophic cave-in in 88] and my wifes' family lives about two miles from the Silverdome. Small world, isn't it?

Actually small town America, Norman Rockwell lives again would suit me just fine. Big Cities are not all that nice. The burbs of Denver are not tooooo bad, but there are places even in Denver that are not safe. Can't imagine LA SanFran NY Chicago Detroit etc. :chicken: Time for this country girl at heart to fly the coop find a nice little Pottersville somewhere.
