Daniel Conahan, Jr-"The Hog Trail Murders". His appeal was denied, he's still on death row. And, they're still finding more bodies...

Chapter 17-"Updates":

http://www.crimelibrary.com/serial7/hogtrail

"It took nearly two years for the Florida Supreme Court to finally reach a decision. On January 16, 2003, they rejected Conahan's appeal, affirming the convictions and sentences, including the sentence of death."

Harvey Carignan:

http://www.geocities.com/verbal_plainfield/encyclopedia.html

"The true scope of Carignan's crimes will likely never be known completely. Confession is unlikely because of his lenient Minnesota sentence and would hurt his unlikely chances at parole, which he has been eligible for since 1993."

http://www.runet.edu/~maamodt/Carignan,%20Harvey.htm

"Under Minnesota law he could serve no more than 40 years no matter how many years that sentence was for. By pleading guilty he would avoid a life sentence and only serve 40 years."

Wake up, Minnesota!

http://www.francesfarmersrevenge.com/stuff/serialkillers Here's an example of how the system fails us.

David Maust: Date of arrest is Friday, Dec. 12, 2003.

http://www.cnn.com/2003/US/Midwest/12/12/basement.bodies

From the next link (also says Maust hasn't gone to trial yet):
Maust's brother: "When I was a very little boy, he set my bed on fire with me in it. And when I was 5 years old, he tried to drown me in the Humboldt Park lake," Jeffrey Maust said.

http://www.crimezzz.net/serialkiller_news/MAUST_david.php

Maust's mother says (can't quote, AP article):

My thoughts are, why didn't she do anything when David was trying to kill Jeffrey?
